“Andrei's French convo group is magnifique!”

I've really enjoyed attending the intermediate/advance conversation group led by Andrei on weekend mornings. The topics are always interesting and the Union Square Barnes and Noble is a great location. Looking forward to going again soon!

“Not worth the money or the time”

Mark J.
7/16/24

I've managed several Meetup groups for years, and I can honestly say it's not worth the money or the time. Meetup does little to promote groups within their network, rather, they try and coerce you into creating ($$$) additional groups, rather than try and help you promote the groups that you are already paying them to promote. I'm done with Meetup, never again.

Empty shell; NO meetings, groups in my region: that is exceptional! Northern VA is a nest for hiking, acting, reading, etc. among a high density population with high income. You must do it on purpose to have nothing in this region (Washington DC region). But their website doesn';t inform you of hte number of groups before you have paid.
SCAM. Fraudulent practices. I.e: I was charged for a renewal of over $250 in fFebruary 2024 without any warning and certainly without my concern.
They became Fraud Central.

I think that these people in fun Peeps in St. Louis MO part of meetup can learn from me be kind, Be welcoming, Be a true friend Be a person of integrity Because people who want to join needs to feel all those things without being threatened by people there talking about people is down right rude and uncalled for and the leaders be the kind of leaders that you would want because one day the shoe will be on the other foot. Talking about someone who cannot defend themselves is not a person with integrity it makes you a person who does not care who they hurt because what you do to others will someday bite you in the $#*! because it will happen Leaders should be just that leading them in something good not evil. Being intrusive into someone's personal life makes you nosey and would you like it if someone did that to you The leaders of the group needs improvements because what you do is what they do being a bunch of people you judge others and that is wrong for leaders to do when someone says don't get into my personal life it is just that and you being a leader is not being intrusive when your not asked, Intrusive is very kind from me because it is so so bad what these people do

Tip for consumers:
I was not treated with the respect I deserved and the leaders was way to intrusive in my life and told me what to do instead of asking and I can say yes or no and them being a leader is knowing when to back away because leaders don't pick peoples dates it don't work that way you first need to change yourself first because you cannot change people you except them for who they are

Fun Peeps should be called make fun of or ruin peoples reputation or Abuse someone with intellectual

Meet up failed to follow laws Denise Jones and a bunch of other there did this 565.184. Abuse of an elderly person, a person with disability, or a vulnerable person — penalty. — 1. A person commits the offense of abuse of an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person if he or she:
(1) Purposely engages in conduct involving more than one incident that causes emotional distress to an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person. The course of conduct shall be such as would cause a reasonable elderly person, person with a disability, or vulnerable person to suffer substantial emotional distress; or
(2) Intentionally fails to provide care, goods or services to an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person. 2. The offense of abuse of an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person is a class A misdemeanor. Nothing in this section shall be construed to mean that an elderly person, a person with a disability, or a vulnerable person is abused solely because such person chooses to rely on spiritual means through prayer, in lieu of medical care, for his or her health care, as evidence by such person's explicit consent, advance directive for health care, or practice.
Fun Peeps needs to be taken away from meetup effective immediatelye

Organizer for 13 years. My experience lately, is meetup will not even bother to reply when there is a function problem. I have also been hacked through meetup. It has really gone downhill, and they disable functions, then ask you to pay extra.

I don't know what happened. I'm an organizer for a group with almost 500 people, have to pay them $200/year, and I don't get any notifications! Not by email or push notification. The programmers have completely tanked this site. There are so many glitches, the UI is abominable. We have resorted to building a website specifically for our group.

Dear Meetup,

You ruined it.

Why #resist? I think perpetuating this kind of thinking is more divisive than anything, and definitely not what people in this country, or on your website, need right now.

You also seem confused about the issues. The president rightfully issued a temporary ban on people from seven countries not because of their religion, but because many people in those countries wish serious harm to citizens of the U.S. and the western world. Don't you think that Americans (both natives and legal immigrants) should be safe and able to pursue their dreams? This doesn't happen without laws! Our country would literally fall apart. Without structure and safety, we won't be able to offer any help at all to asylum seekers and immigrants, let alone the children of families who have been American for generations.

#Resist what? National security? Law? Reason? Please consider this - the ideology you are spreading is harmful, not peaceful.

Best,

Shannon

The know-it-all execs decided to be politically active against conservatives. By creating and promoting hundreds if not thousands of "Resist" Groups basically targeting half the US population, the entire company has essentially died in spectacular, hilarious fashion.

Very happily running 2 musical jam groups until they suddenly eliminated file uploading on 1/4/2017. Now we can't share song charts and recordings which is a huge setback. They say it's to allow them to improve the site in other ways, but that's just marketing BS. Keep this in mind before you sign up.

My local Ayn Rand discussion group cheerfully used Meetup for many years for its convenience. That all changed in February 2017 when Meetup management in New York City decided to turn hard left with its anti-Trump #Resist effort. It would have been fine had they simply offered it as another topic on an equal playing field with all other topics charging the same fees. Instead, they offered "free" #Resist groups globally along with front page advertising, all subsidized by dues from paying groups. The result has been a massive loss of Meetup groups and members. My own core group immediately voted with their feet and left before I could even discuss it with them. We have since moved to the politically neutral and financially free Eventbrite tool for managing our events. Meetup may just go bankrupt because of this huge strategic blunder while deserving it richly. Sad!

Tip for consumers:
Avoid this site like the plague! They abuse user fees to finance seditious activities. They betray members who sought a neutral tool to meet others of like mind for mutual enjoyment of shared interests.

I have nothing but very negative experiences with Meetup.com. I agree that Meetup.com is for losers who can't make friends in real life. The people who attend events are some of the most insane, emotionally disturbed, sycophants I've ever met!

As a female, attending the singles events are horrible! The men are socially $#*!ed and won't take "I'm not interested" "No I don't want to exchange numbers" and walking away from them as a sign to please leave me alone. They will follow you around the event and even send frightening stalker e-mails after the event.

I've deleted my profile and am trying to find other ways to meet people, because there is ZERO quality on Meetup.com.

I have used Meetup.com for Six years as of Nov 2017. They have been a problem ever since I started using them, and the app they just pushed out in Sept of 2016 has taken a bad situation to worse. The only thing this company will understand is falling revenue. They do not even have a contact us button on their main web page. The new logo is more like a blood splatter from a murderer and Rapes and assaults have been associated with this social media site. Be smarter use Facebook. Meetup just sucks. Update: Now they are going to modify the Web-page interface so it looks like the app. Useless non functionality is the goal, Please I beg everyone to just leave Meetup.com they don't give a damn who gets harmed by the unscrupulous organizers who lure people into situations that are not safe. I really wish this social media would have died in 2009, Use Facebook Groups they at least do not cost the owner money to operate.

Anti-American rhetoric cannot be tolerated in this nation. Opinions are one thing; encouraging civil unrest and violence are inappropriate. Good-bye before I got started. Anyone want to collaborate to start a decent "meet-up" organization?

Meetup.com doctored their search engine so my computer would not be able to access all available groups.
This 'playing god attitude' seems prevalent in their decision making, curtailing the freedoms of other users for no apparent reason.
I also note health clubs or anything slightly counter culture get closed down.

I would give no star if I could. Its the ugly club

I'm just an average person looking to meet normal people. Alas meetup.com is useless for that. Most of the groups are scams selling something. The rest are run by highly biased people e.g. who spam you with their political views.

"Waste Of Time" if you are starting a new group. Had over two hundred members, arranged three public meetings in restaurants, not one person came, despite a few responses, over two years. I wrote again and again to my member list, sent "love" messages of thanks to everyone who joined - NADA. Remember: that's with more than two hundred people who signed up. Trying to end the subscription now and have to go through many hoops to do so. I feel like I'm in Meetup purgatory. (I think it's fine if you ALREADY have a steady, loyal group that has been meeting for a while and just want to possibly get new members. Wish I could take back my time and money. Zilch results for me.

I've used Meetup successfully over the past two years and never had anything but good things to say about it. That is until I got an email today about this #Resist movement. Seriously, what were you thinking Meetup? I have always valued your site as one that transcended petty political affiliations and was focused on providing an outlet for all viewpoints. To take a side so blatantly and give support to certain voices is beyond inappropriate for a site such as yours.

Many many many glitches in the system. Folks unable to sign up for the event, suddenly requiring passwords that the host did not initiate, and every time I sign up for an event and am ready to find the next one to do the same, the page does not properly refresh, instead, landing me at the very bottom where the site has its grey-boxed info. It should be putting my view right back where I left off.

The ads are truly obnoxious. Every single time you sign up for something, you deal with a pop up ad. And there is no way to even filter them to your likes.

There is not a single user in the group I regularly attend who is happy with meetup. We are currently exploring alternative venues.

Terrible platform and even worse customer support. On 2 occasions I have made a mistake creating a profile on Meetup.com. Two years ago and then just recently my profile has been blocked and removed under their "suspected spam" when all I was doing was sending a few messages not many and sending to group organizers not members suggesting an event. My profile isn't a company or soliciting anything. Each time I have wasted 2 years building my account only to have it removed and no one in meetup will answer why this happened or assist with recovery. Just no answers to my repeated requests for assistance. I don't think they employ any real humans on the other end of this platform... DON'T waste your time here.

I just rejoined with a new email and profile setup after years of hiatus, to a ridiculously deadweight platform (truly) Somehow getting emails from the older inactive account, despite creating the new one. The link reopening that "defunct" account - requesting a password reset, which I obviously cannot do. And NO actual support available to fix this. Just a lame page of useless icons with canned irrelevant questions. No actual ticket you can file. Wow - for 2022 post-pandemic, they sure seemed a great worthy in reviving, for getting reconnected. *sigh*

Maybe they are frustrating us to the point of signing up with their own venues which... surprise... they charge for.

For many months now, I have had nothing but headaches trying to get their new Stripe payout system to work. All they do is send me links to their stupid unhelpful non relevant support articles. I see money sitting in my stripe account and cannot get it to my bank account. Days go by before anyone responds to an email. How can a company charge $180 a year to use their service with zero support behind it. Completely fed up with this company. Very disappointing.

Sigh. I thought, naively, that Meetup would take up where other social media platforms left off, but it's essentially become another Twitter platform. While it was created originally to facilitate face to face, real time meetings, it appears as yet another, tired, on-line space that is as vacuous as all the rest.

Here's an article that may shed light on where this is going. https://www.wired.com/story/why-wework-is-buying-meetup/
