My very first order through this company was cancelled by the seller. I do not trust Mercari at this point. It was a very bad first impression.
The fees that are charged to buyers and the sellers are outrageous! You don't make much money after selling and the price the buyer sees advertised goes up quiet a bit after fees and taxes. The shipping prices are more expensive than the post office and if you ship on your own, your out money if the buyer doesn't get the item within 10 days. Customer service is impossible to get ahold of and when you do they don't resolve your issue and basically say your on your own to figure out the problems. Would not recommend this site at all unless you find something you desperately need.
Mecari use to be good but now it has more resellers than buyers. If you price something at $6 they make offer for $5 If you price something at $100 they make offer $25 covid 19 created more sellers which means less sales, So I'm going to try and find a new selling app.
This company assists ppl with selling their goods. It's no pick up, ship only. As you're dealing with individuals there can always be varying degrees of satisfaction but I've made at least 40 to 50 purchases and only had an issue with 1 seller selling my items that I won to another buyer and 1 seller angry with me as I left her a somewhat negative review(that was warranted, it was fair and true and she didn't like it). Sellers can either offer you free shipping or add the price onto your purchase price. You can make offers on their listed prices, it's up to them whether they accept or not, or give you a counter offer. I've gotten some AMAZING deals on things. Usually the items are in very good condition and a lot of times, new. Most sellers I've dealt with have been great! Of course you get a bad apple every now and then but that is with any situation where you deal with people. I really love this site and highly recommend it. I've never sold anything yet, only been a buyer. However I've dealt with repeat sellers so they must like it too!
There is no way to speak with, or send an email to, a human at this company to dispute a purchase (in my case, an expensive used Bose CD-player/radio that was erroneously reported to be in perfect working condition but that showed itself to be nonfunctional/unreliable with regard to its CD-playing capabilities soon after its two-days-of-delivery deadline). Give me a break! This is an electronics item and cannot be known to be defect-free immediately. After playing a CD all the way through during what seemed to be a normal episode within the first two days, it subsequently became clear soon after then that one cannot skip tracks forward or backward -- furthermore, after attempting to do so, CDs often would not even play in a straightforward mode; that is, when not attempting to move through tracks. Unfortunately for me, this defect in functionality did not present itself until a day or two past the two-day time limit, as I have been incredibly busy caring for my parents during this global pandemic crisis. And, frankly, it didn't even occur to me, once the radio and straightforward CD-playing functions were quickly established, that I would need to spend time double-checking the skip-tracks functions. What a bizarre way in which such a device would be broken! Because of this unreasonable "expiration date," I am powerless to take any action for a refund, and am now out about $200. As I said, I am very, very unhappy! Never again.

As a seller who has a perfect 5-star rating, one of my packages was eventually lost by USPS.
Mercari deleted the label and tracking number within 1 week of the purchase, refunded the buyer, and basically said you're SOL to me. Your item is lost - the buyer may still receive it from USPS for free - but since you don't have a tracking number (because Mercari deleted it) you can't open an investigation OR claim for the item.
Mercari greatly benefits off good sellers like myself who are reliable, list items consistently, and go above and beyond to provide a good experience for buyers.
The fact they go out of their way to screw buyers out of any little recourse they may have in these circumstances... lesson learned. I'll eat the loss this once and sell elsewhere in the future.
I've been very pleased with Mercari. I've had issues and needed customer service help before. They've always been very helpful. I highly suggest you look over their terms and conditions when you begin an account. Most of the complaints I've seen are due to people not following their rules or understanding them.
Worst. They took my money. I paid for an item using their webpage and when the seller didn't ship the item and I asked for a refund, all they could they me was to wait. They literally stole my money. Avoid using this website.
They do not even deserve 1 star. I sold an item which was then damaged and thrown away by ups. Mecari did not reimburse me. Stating i mailed 2 fragile bowls in a mailing envelope. Obviously they were in a sturdy box with plenty of padding. Since no pictures from ups i have no way to dispute. Why would i risk breaking an item i was selling...
Only been a member since May and already experienced more seller cancellations, delayed shipping, and no shipping information on items than the past 10 years on eBay. There is no accountability to protect the purchaser. Shipping policy for sellers are not enforced. If you don't receive an item, they tell you to cancel the purchase, instead of enforcement. I was looking for another venue other than eBay, but I think I'll continue sell all my items on eBay, not Mercari. I've also noticed the exact same item on both Mercari and eBay, so what happens if there is a buyer from both sites? I think that's where the cancelled purchases are from? If Mercari had accountability enforcement, they'd be a good contender and venue for selling and buying. I hope they solve their issues and make it. I wish them well, but I'll never sell any items through them, and reduce my purchases and wait and see...
I sold a item on mercari and was provided with a shipping label. Once i shipped the I was told by the buyer that the product arrived damaged and missing. Instead of mercari honoring their worries free shipping, i was stuck without the product and money. Never will I do business here again.
Do not list your product on Mercari. The customer service is horrible and they keep giving you the run around. There is no phone number that allows you to reach a human being. Recommend you use Poshmark

Items I received did not match condition in listing. Seller agreed to accept a refund and said mercari would send a shipping label. A day later I contacted mercari because I had no correspondence from them. They denied the return and said it didn't meet their policy requirements. They closed the case. Buyer protection is a joke. Good luck if you buy on mercari. Don't expect any help.

I do not have a printer at home and they are recommending I go to a library to print the shipping label (our libraries aren't open!). Now they recommend I find a neighbor to borrow their printer. They can't mail me a label because they are an app based company is what the rep told me. It is ridiculous. I have filed a dispute with my credit card company.
My son recently bought a pair of shoes for $400 using Mercari. They turned out to be counterfeit despite being advertised as authenticate. We contacted Mercari right away but they refused to process the return and processed the sale instead. We tried hard to seek an answer as to why they would not follow their own policy of not allowing counterfeit sales. No luck. They refused to work with us. He worked a long time to earn the money to buy those shoes and now has a nothing to show for it. Tough lesson for a kid to learn that some companies have no interest in doing the right thing. Encourage anyone considering buying or selling with them to reconsider and to use a company that has some principles.
I bought an item, The seller backed out the deal. The money what's taking out of my account. I contact mercari twice and I got the same answer that the money was never taken out that I should check with my bank, that it was my Banks fault. Went to the Bank, they confirmed that mercari did take the money out. The bank filed a complaint to Mercari, now 3-4 days later mercari sends me a notification that my account with them if suspended. Why? If anyone needs to be suspended it should be the seller. I'm just trying to get my $$$ back.
