Item sold as new. Sent to wrong address. By the time I received it the return and rating window was closed. Parts damaged and worn. Some parts missing. Do not use this site.
Ordered 2 items in a bundle. Seller was all "do bundle to save on shipping" so I did. [originally used site only so didn't know of this, had to download app for bundle option.] then 1 of the 2 items completely broken in several pieces due to obvious lack of proper packing material. A few air bubbles that were half popped and 1 sheet of thin bubble wrap does not protect ceramic.
Sent 2 dozen photos to mercari an hour after package was dropped off showing proof. [they ask for 1 photo of just the packing itself, 1 of All items including undamaged one, several photos of exterior of box, etc so I took all these Additional photos.]
Then 2 days later they finally reach back and say I need to return EVERYTHING from bundle, which the other item was long gone as it was bought ot become part of a basket for an auction that i'm donating for my business.
I already dropped off the day after receiving package. They refuse partial refunds. Never heard of a company that requires an entire order be sent back for one item being broken?!?
Now I am out money as they refuse to refund me for just the broken item, and also out the item. Now I habe to go through Venmo and my bank to fight this. Do they expect me to go hunt down my basket and say, sorry, I have to return this?
Mercari is absolutely not buyer friendly and I didn't look at reviews bc I had personally heard good things about it. Never again.
DON'T EVEN BOTHER TO USE MERCARI. ASIDE THAT IS FULL OF COUNTERFEIT, TO OPEN A RETURN IS TRULY A NIGHTMARE. THEY WON'T CARE ABOUT YOU AT ALL. I TRIED TO RETURN A FAKE LOUIS VUITTON AND FOR 3 DAYS, THE RETURN WAS NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE THE ITEM SHOWED "ON IT WAY" (EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALREADY DELIVERED). WELL, GUESS WHAT? AFTER 4 DAYS, THIS ITEM WENT FROM "ON ITS WAY" TO "DELIVERED" AND I LOST $800 USD. I CALLED, EMAIL THEM AND CONTACTED THEM THROUGH THE SUPPORT CENTER AND THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN HELPING ME.
What do you get when you combine a dishonest, lying seller with an incompetent, non-responsive, poorly managed and probably dishonest online marketplace? The answer: Mercari. I placed a purchase for some DVDs of an old TV show and paid $80. The shipment was supposed to come by USPS registered. Nothing came after several weeks. Then the "tracking" number suddenly showed my item had been delivered-but to someone else in a distant state! I contacted the seller and he claimed it was an erroneous tracking number, and sent me another tracking number. This number showed he had not even delivered my DVDs to his local post office for 2 weeks after he took my money. Then both the seller and Mercari claimed the shipment was slowed down by the Post Office. After a month I demanded my money back. Mercari responded and said be patient. The seller pestered me with more than 10 emails asking me to wait, claiming it was the Post Office's fault, etc. Finally I told Mercari I would file a small claims court lawsuit in my local county against them. The next day, after a month, I was told they were refunding the $80. Finally after 6 weeks it showed up on my credit card.
Do NOT trust either the sellers or the site itself, Mercari. This whole site is a scam, either intentionally or through lack of proper systems to protect buyers. It should be shut down by federal or state consumer fraud regulators.
I was quite pleased, as a seller, while Mercari mimicked convention established by eBay. However, today, a return was initiated and decided ENTIRELY WITHOUT MY INPUT, and all I received was a form letter enumerating policies, none of which applied to my item. Nor will the app accommodate my asking for an explanation.
Just like The Real Real, Mercari is now raping sellers to please buyers.
Ordered an item for the first time from a seller with a perfect record of sales only to apparently be the only buyer to run in to trouble. Seller claimed item was returned to her from FedEx and she had to resend the item USPS on the morning it was supposed to arrive. I contacted FedEx with tracking number information, the item was never mailed out. I think I will stick with eBay and Amazon, I suggest you do the same.
They have a strict 3 day return policy, but won't let you return defective items. Sellers can dupe you easily and they're protected. Don't waste your money.
Customer service SUCKS! Especially when it comes to an escalated issue. When tracking down an item that you havent physically received due to theft or a mistake from the delivery man, you as the customer is at fault. The Mercari team would not do anything to resolve the matter and they just simply SUCK. I WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY EVER!
They DO NOT back the seller, buyer. Name calling, like liar, people like you, can't you read English all because I said she did not send shams that were listed in description. Instead reported me as "prohibited conduct' and never said an unkind word 0h but she did within seconds my kind words were deleted and item and when I tried to request return, it was deleted in seconds. How can that seller reach them and I can't? Because she's a professional scammer and Mercari is a scam! DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THEM! They will not back you and IF YOU CAN FIND THEIR NUMBER ON THE WEB, it is a number to something like internal affairs who don't even represent them. What does that tell you? BUYER BEWARE. There are millions of scammers right now and the seller knows Mercari will back them!
I've been selling on Mercari for years and every interaction I've has with customer service has been abysmal. They do not respond to questions or deal with issues, they simply tell you too bad it's not our problem and steal your money. I sold an item and out of the blue Mercari cancelled the transaction WHILE THE ITEM WAS ALREADY IN TRANSIT. I contacted them and they told me that they refunded the buyer and there was nothing I could do?! They straight up stole my item and refuse to give me my money back. Stay far away from this app.

Bought some VANS sneakers 12 days ago and they are already broken and almost destroyed. They give only 72 hours to give your review of the product and when you send you CANNOT change review and/or talk to the seller anymore. They never gave me a solution for a return. The only thing they gave me was a 10% discount on next purchase! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This site SUCKS and please DO NOT use for any circumstances. How is it possible that a product that failed its purposes and gets almost destroyed after only 12 days of usage DO NOT get any refund or communication with seller?
I sold my first item, shipped the item the next day using mercari provided label, seller left positive feedback. Instead of releasing the funds I was owed, Mercari "limited" my account, so I was basically deactivated from using the app, unable to receive funds. I emailed 3x no reply from cs email. They completely scammed me on my one and only sale, makes me wonder how many times they have done this. DONT TRUST THIS SITE! You have to provide your bank account details, don't!
I really do wish I had read these reviews and left Mercari out of my life. Even though it seems to be a fairly foolproof system, it depends on the willingness of Mercari to defend its clients against scams. The communication is good when they are asking for your gift card as a warranty, but fails when asked to refund money to the gift card. They allow scams to happen, even when clients report them happening in real time. Mercari does nothing because they have their money. And stopping scams will divest them of that money on the giftcard. Do not use Mercari, I was charged with a shipping cost of over $500, far more than the items sold, a laundry set, when no shipping agreement was in place. They did not care, it started with the note that a daughter wrote to call her mother about the sale, as pictured, so the "mother" had only a phone that took messages, I never talked directly to anyone, and sent more than 30 messages to Mercari throughout five days to straighten this out. As of now they have not, told me to purchase two cards, so I am out $300 dollars. Do not trust Mercari, it doesnt make sense.
I've sold for over 25 years on Ebay, and I have a seller's account with Amazon since 1996. I assure you that Mercari is a great place to buy and sell! They have quick customer service by email and I've never not received a response within a day! I've purchased items and sold mostly on Mercari. I sell only AUTHENTIC merchandise. There is an old scam of using real receipts to sell fake handbags and when I see those sellers I report them. The key to Mercari is using your vocabulary to leave a good description. They require all sellers to use their own photos, not stock photos. And to communicate with your buyer and make certain they understand the condition of the item. Payment isn't released until the buyer gets their merchandise and rates the transaction! Everything runs pretty smoothly. Both buyers and sellers are protected equally. Some of the lies listed in these reviews are glaringly obvious; like you can't return an item after the sell has closed and been rated. Also, as a buyer you can cancel a transaction if the seller doesn't mail your item within 3 business days. Love Mercari! When you have a knack for selling this place will be great for you! If you like great deals this is the place to buy items! Ebay's Fees are too high now, and the entire site has fake and replica merchandise being sold as authentic! I limit my time on Ebay now. If you want a fast and smooth place to buy abs sell then MERCARI is that marketplace!

I sent out an expensive item that got stuck pending while transferring between FedEx and USPS. Mercari assumed that package was lost in transit, and cancelled it on the same day the tracking updated to a new location. I reached out to multiple sources for customer support but no one was able to fully correct this issue. They blamed me and told me if it isn't delivered on time it will get cancelled. I have been going crazy trying to intercept this item, and begging Mercari for a refund but they're so convinced it's lost in transit. Now someone somewhere is getting an expensive free item, it's probably going to be a good weekend for them while it's feeling like my worst over here.
I wish I had read all the reviews before even deciding to become a seller on this app, I deactivated all my items and I'm going to try to sell on another app. For anyone reading this, just don't do it, it's not even worth it anyways all they do is take take take.
I am like a snake that got stepped on but the only thing I can do to bite back is leave a bunch of one star reviews and try to inform other people.

After selling over 350 items, with virtually all of them except 3 being 5 star reviews, I had a sale and the item arrived damaged/broken to the buyer. The buyer filed a claim per Mercari's procedures and they (Mercari) said it is actually a case of not as described vs damaged so their employee changed it to that. The buyer tried to get them to correct the mistake they (Mercari) made multiple times (at least 5 emails per the buyer) but got so frustrated with them because they latched onto the "not as described" thing. After I got involved, it got worse and worse. They are difficult, if not impossible, to get in touch with. It is extremely frustrating to know that they have made all the fees they have off of me and can't refund a $36 item to me despite both me and the buyer providing them with photographic evidence of the item's damage. This has left a sour taste in my mouth after being very happy with their service since starting. If you do use Mercari and have an issue with an item damaged in transit, be prepared to not have them support you at all and have no ability to deal with a reasonable person there. Next, I'm filing a complaint with the BBB. The picture is the part that comes on an electric cord that you turn the dial on to turn the light on/off. This is what Mercari terms "not as described" vs "damaged". Does anyone know of any legal recourse of how I could pursue this against Mercari?
Mercari ONLY allows feedback to be left after an item is ACCEPTED! My seller NEVER shipped the item! There was NO communication. Yet, they still maintain a 5 star rating, because ONLY the good transactios get feedback! There is NO WAY to warn potential buyers of BAD SELLERS. Meanwhile, my funds were tied up for weeks!
