I purchased a GoPro Max from Mercari, the seller did not indicate the item was damaged in the listing. Mercari support stated the item was in "Good" condition as the seller had stated even though the camera had scratches on both of the lenses impairing its ability to operate as a camera. It's clearly called out in the Seller Protection policy that for the seller to avoid a return claim all damage must be consistently called out in the item description and photos. The photos had what looked like lens glare but actually was a scratch, there was no damage claimed in the description only that the camera was in good condition and worked. After days of providing evidence, referencing their own Buyer Protection and Seller Protection policies they refuse to allow me to return the damaged item to the seller and were unable to tell me why they refused my return claim other than "we've determined the item was in good condition as the seller had stated" completely ignoring the damage on the camera and the failure to notify buyers of the damage.
I have issued a chargeback and Mercari is closing my account. It's as shame as I actually enjoyed Mercari for a time as a 5 star buyer / seller with 22 transactions on my account, but due to a failure on Mercari's part for not adhering to their own Buyer Protection policies when review my request for a return. It would have just been much easier to allow me to return the damaged camera back to the seller.

They were china wrapped in TISSUE PAPER! I paid EXTRA for the shipping. Mercari REFUSED to address the issues.finally threw the broken pieces away.

I recently purchased a Thule urban glide 2 double stroller for my two baby granddaughters from Estuardo0520. This seller represented this item was in good clean condition. On arrival it was obvious the stroller had been sprayed with a fabric paint or similar chemical because the fabric was stiff, sticky & smelled like chemicals.
My 2 baby grandchildren could never sit in this stroller because where they would sit is covered in these chemicals & small babies who put everything in their mouths. Mercari is refusing my return request. I was forced to dispute this charge with my bank & returned this item via UPS. I would never buy anything with Mercari again & especially not from this seller Estuardo9520

I bought some blocks for my 3rd graders to use in their lesson from a five star rated seller. They are supposed to ship within three days of the purchase. 9 days later the seller has only answered me once claiming to have left the package in a drop box but refusing to provide any tracking details. I send more messages all ignored. The customer service reps are polite but only make excuses for the seller. If I had bought from a reputable platform I would have what I need right now for my students. Mercari has a rating system that is worthless and engage with sellers who have no accountability. I do NOT recommend these people at all!
Well, what would you do when you are blocked on ebay for being rude, paranoia minded and weirdo. Of course you will go to Mercari and start harrassing buyers. Most of the sellers on Mercari are basically the banned former ebay sellers and they are banned for a reason. Period.
Terrible return policy – buyers beware! I recently bought a necklace for my wife from a "highly rated" seller. The seller's description did not provide any size information, but after scrutinizing the seller's photos this necklace appeared to be reasonably large. As it turned out, the posted photos made it look deceptively large, and the necklace was way too small and would not fit. My return request was denied based on their policy of not taking back items that do not fit. They also protect their sellers well: as soon as I submitted a return request, and also left a message for the seller, I was blocked (either by Mercari or the seller) and could no longer leave a review or contact the seller. No wonder I didn't see any negative reviews. Lesson learned.

My account was closed with out warning for selling fake cards they have no clue about what is authentic and what is not authentic. They don't give warnings and they won't listen to anything you have to say. I appealed this case after 6 months of being wrongfully accused for selling counterfeit cards. Then they let me back on mercari then 48 hours later they shut my account down for no reason again! They said your account was closed and will remain closed indefinitely. I've purchased the cards they claim to be counterfeit on eBay and they were authenticated by eBay during the time of purchase. They shut my account down when I had just shipped items that I sold and I had to pay usps fees to get the package's intercepted. Mercari and their rude staff has been nothing but a nightmare! Their 1.3 star rating speaks for its self! If you trust this company you will eventually get screwed I guarantee it! They said I created more then one account but I only started a account on google then decided to use apple all my bank info and everything else they ask for was on my apple account my google account didn't even have a profile picture just another false accusation from this so called market place! If you want to take your chances on a market place that struggles getting 1.5 stars that will be the start of the worst nightmare you've ever had! Remember I said that.l
Avoid Mercari. Had nothing but problems with my initial purchase. Customer service is lacking and gave repeat and repeat issue. Received product that was ordered and it was significantly damaged. Item was a WWII statue and arrived broken and in numerous pieces beyond repair. Took pictures with minutes of delivery and opening the box, Mercari denies damage and indicates I have no proof it arrived that way. Seriously? I order a lot thing just to break them…not. Stay away! Look at the reviews about Mercari. I did and still ordered. Now I'm paying for it!

I ordered a Sure microphone from Mercari because they had (by far) the best price. When it arrived, it did not work at all. No sound coming through the mic. I did some research about this mic and learned that it may require an additional preamp. I purchased the preamp from Amazon and when it arrived, I tried the mic again using the preamp. Still no sound at all. I even went to a local Guitar Center store where they tested the mic and confirmed it did not work. At that point I contacted Mercari who stated that there are no refunds after the item has been reviewed. I had not reviewed the mic. Turns out Mercari reviews the mic for me after three days! Further emails back and forth have yielded no resolution.

Mercari is holding my money hostage as a seller - they will not release it unless I provide them detailed banking information. I will not do this, they are based in Japan (not USA) and I'm not interested in giving out that information to a foreign country. They offer an option of using your balance owed as a way to purchase items - which would have been a fine alternative - except it doesn't work. Spent several days talking with "support", with zero solutions. They take Venmo and Paypal, but they won't send you your money owed from selling this way. With support that doesn't actually do anything, I'd rate this place as 80% scam, 20% data thieves. STAY AWAY FROM MERCARI
I paid for a polo shirt, seller fraudulently, intentionally sent me a sport card which I think worth couple bucks. Mercari says they can't do anything about it. What a bunch of crooks! Stay away!

I purchased an item based on the listing picture and description which was totally different from what I received. I immediately emailed the seller and then customer service requesting a refund and was directed to provide pictures of the item received, which was done on the same day I received the item.
They emailed me on a Saturday requesting the pictures be sent again and gave me 24 hours (Sunday) to resubmit? I checked my email on Monday and learned that my request for a return/refund was denied because they had not received the resubmitted pictures within 24 hours Do, they not operate on business days like other reputable companies. They do not hold sellers accountable, thus promoting fraudulent behavior. This was my first and my last experience with Mercari. Buyers should beware of this company. They definitely do not operate like Amazon or Ebay. Stay away.
No matter what I tried, they wouldn't or couldn't verify my card. I called my card company and told them I was trying to buy a power wheelchair from Mercari. They removed all restrictions for them plus I had enough money on it. I still did not get past verification. Over the course of four days, I corresponded with customer service twenty times and made countless attempts to buy it. Today I gave up.
