Initially customer service gave me some trouble due to mistaken identity, however the (frustrating) problem was resolved. I must say that I enjoy the simplicity of Mercari. It is a more streamlined method of buying and selling than Ebay.
This web site is terrible. They have pictures of the item but sends you something totally different. For example. The bags are clearly vintage but you receive a brand new fake bag plastic bag. They have so many sellers websites doing this. They are are usually shipping out of Chino, California. You order one thing and receive another. They don't refund money instead they credit.
I an pretty disappointed at mercari, I had the chance to buy a few times and sell once and the experience was not pleasant.
I could not find a way to contact the mercari website and after searching in the web I found a number where there is a message that says leave your name and number and we will contact you.
My last experience I bought a wireless headphones that where delivered on a friday afternoo, we have a manager on site to receive packages. I actually got the package on a sunday, everything seemed fine until I tried to pair the headphones with my phone, one of the pieces didn't work, so I sent a message to the seller explaining and he tells me to open a return when I try the mercari website won't let me saying the transaction was closed after 3 days and the item is no longer returnable. I tried to contact the website and again not only confusing but it keeps taking you to the question page and that's all. Buy at your own risk.
I shipped an item, used an entire roll of bubble wrap and other packing material and the item was broken in transit to the buyer. They have $200 insurance on each package, but they refused to pay me and I got a broken item shipped back to me that I couldn't sell. The really stupid thing is they owed me $18.80 but instead of just using the insurance to pay me they paid $11 for the buyer to send the broken item back. The buyer even sent them messages saying that I packaged it more than adequately. They don't listen to your side and could care less that you're losing money. Poshmark has its quirks, but I'd recommend it over this site any day. This is run by liars that do NOT stand behind their word.
I made an accident purchased and tried reaching out the seller right away. The seller never responded and three days later delivered my order. My rating I made on Mercari was 3 stars for the seller because he did not attempt to make any communication with me. Even after I received the product. Mercari would not accept my 3 rating because it said my product was received and it was consider fulfilled. They would not publish my 3 rating star and reviews on the seller profile. If you look at all their reviews from their sellers... they are all almost perfect. Not honest like Amazon. Amazon releases all reviews bad and good. Since, I don't trust that site and have not ordered from there.
If you ship something breakable (glass etc) and even if you follow the shipping guidelines of Bubble wrap, packing materials etc, boxed stamped Fragile, Mercari will not help you. Even though they advertise that they cover up to $200 you can forget it. They will not reimburse you no matter how well you packaged it. Very unfair and disappointing.
It depends what is sold on here. Mercari purposely puts in the percentage off, there is a bar for price structure which isn't fair for the buyers. The shipping, it depends, which means you have to forcefully put in or bump the price up, which most you can't. I will mostly use it as if I am dropshipping items.
They offer a $10 off discount code that you can share. Problem is, they neglect to tell you that the recipients who use the link and sign up for their accounts lose the ability to use the discount. So I contacted them (be aware that that process is already a struggle in itself) asking how the heck would the person be able to buy something and use the $10 credit if they didn't have an account since you have to choose between "sign in" (not possible if you are a new customer) and "sign up" - which is what they did and caused them to lose the discount. WTF. Stupid company, not worth the aggravation. And in terms of my purchase experience, so far the seller hasn't contacted me and hasn't shipped within the 3 days the site seems to tout. Yeah, huge regrets I ever bought anything from this site. Never again. Once my transaction is resolved, I'm going to delete my account.
Mercari close my account for no reason and stole my money. They ask me to complete a verification process. I Completed it 3 weeks ago and now mercari wont even respond. I contact them 10 times. I will file a complaint with BBB and attorney general office.
My order arrived incomplete, I immediately contacted the seller who never replied. When checking if I had a response, and to follow up, I learned that the app automatically closed out the sale after just 3 days from delivery, gave the seller a 5* rating on my behalf and I can no longer contact the seller. I contacted Mercari who said that because the sale was closed nothing can be done to address my issue, and that dialogue closed in less than 24hrs so I couldn't even respond.

I placed an order for Marshmallow sprinkle candles and captured a deliver address different from my billing address. I even captured the delivery address on the order. Somehow, someone there switched the order up and delivered to my billing address. Immediately, as soon as I saw this on one of the delivery updates, I contacted Mercari (seller) and and informed them of the issue via text on their customers service app. The only response I received was the label shows my billing address. My immediate response was of course because you all switched it and it needs to be corrected. Needless to say, I received no apologies nor any help to resolve the issue. To make matters worst I had to pay an additional $15 to resend the package to the original address I ask for in the beginning. I would not purchase anything else from "Mercari" and highly warn others to strongly consider not placing orders from this seller. Buyers Beware!

They have a 72 hour no exceptions return policy. If you buy something better check it fast if it doesn't work they have a no refund no exchange no credit policy. Your stuck with that broke item they took your money. The crook gets paid and they make a commission. I was at 76 hours and they could have cared less. Don't buy here they are ebay no return and they don't even tell you. You can't even reach out to the seller like you can on eBay. They automatically put in a review so you can't even warn others about the seller. The reviews are worthless bot reviews.

You're on your own here - no support from the company and no way to get in contact with anyone. You can write, you can leave messages (they do not monitor phones), but no one will get back with you. And you cannot rely on ratings (for sellers or buyers) as Mercari will simply post them for you without your knowledge. I was without power (and thus, no internet) for days due to a weather emergency and wasn't able to quickly post a rating on an order, so Mercari simply did it for me with no idea how or what happened with the order. Dishonest! This is a direct quote from the email Mercari sent me: "Rating provided to Seller
Looks like we didn't receive your rating for the item listed below, so we've updated the transaction on your behalf!" And then they turned around and gave me a negative rating. For what? Failure to leave a rating within 7 days? Gee... sorry the electric company turned off power to 20,000 people and I happened to be one of them. I will never do business with them again.

Wow! Never use Mercari! A buyer claimed in a review that my item arrived late. I have tracking that proves the item arrived early. Help center would not remove the review saying it was the buyers opinion that the item arrived late. Even though I could prove it wasn't true with tracking. They said they couldn't remove it but would have the higher ups look at it. Then they changed their name to peach claiming to be a supervisor. All the previous messages were then sent by peach though. Incredibly insulting and ridiculous. I wanted to keep my store from being lied about and smeared. Not only did they not help but they lied to me repeatedly in a ridiculous fashion. I've Never experienced customer service that was so insulting and clearly had no interest in helping me. I had high hopes for Mercari but if you're a serious seller avoid this marketplace like the plague. So ridiculous

I was a seller on Mercari
I used my hard earned money to pay for a baby swing that was sold as new but it was not new it was used and didn't work but they would not accept a return and refund the customer service dept just kept giving me the run around. The item came in a box that wasn't even the original box and had scratched all over it.
I was live on Mercari for two days and I was shut down.
I was told my 1950's black Americana salt and pepper shakers were offensive and they shut me down.
I had 4 sales for over $300 and they have stolen that from me

I've had great luck buying things I couldn't find on ebay, amazon, and other online retailers. Not sure what all the bad reviews are for, could be due to items people are buying. I have seen obvious fake shoes on here, so it might all depend on what you're buying.
I would not even try selling on this app they say 3 days to rate or they automatically rate the seller yet the buyer if my watch still has my watch I have not got paid the 189.00 she owes me and mercari has only messaged me twice about it this is wrong and a scam don't waist your time and money or your products mercari is terrible! And no phone number to get ahold of them to fix anything it's a scam!
Banned for no reason. A couple simple warnings for tagged words or whatever it may be but I actually really enjoyed selling on that site and they gave me no explanation or reason they just said basically I'm banned for life so I'm pretty salty about it
Tried to return defective item within the hour of receiving it and could not get past info page. No form to fill out to start return. No way to contact them thru help page. Total scam company. Should be investigated by the Department of Commerce and Fraud.
The prices on merchandise is completely too high, and shipping is ridiculous. A lot of the items are, broken, don't work, and sellers want more than if purchased brand new. A pair of wireless earbuds $11.00 shipping, and handling.? Give me a break. Save yourself some money, time, and headache. Go to Ebay.!
Made some sales there, but horrible non existent customer service, no phone customer service and e-mail service takes a week to answer if at all, canned response to contact them at their e-mail and then no response, full of low ball buyers and scam artists, best to put your energies somewhere else

I used Mercari for the first time. I received a defective $50 electronic device, but because I didn't know that I only had 3 days to request a return I am stuck with a defective item with no recourse! I will never use this Merchant site again!
Mercari does not follow their own policy. Under their community guidelines they state that users cannot make statements that are false, defamatory.
They allowed a buyer to leave me a negative review with very specific comments that were untrue and defamatory to my account. They also did not require the buyer to upload photos to go along with their claim. The buyer never contacted me to let me know there was a "problem" with the item. After several attempts, even showing them the specific wording in their guidelines, they refused to remove the review from my profile. They allow buyers to make false claims on an item in the sellers review and do not give a seller any way to defend themselves against false claims. This situation also was one where the buyer did not ask for a return/refund. They kept the item that was supposedly badly used. Cleary a false claim
If they had no problem keeping the item and never had to submit pictures to show it.
I've been doing online consignment for years. I started Mercari after ONE WEEK- and sold a few things but my messages to sellers about trades and sales were being flagged and then they suspended me indefinitely without any warning or notice. I submitted to their solutions desk via email and heard NOTHING back. Their loss. Buyer/seller beware.
DO NOT use Mercari to sell your items. It is a total scam, fraud, and waste of energy. I had over 100 valuable items for sale to which I just deleted. They do not provide an option to change the shipping option and yet they still charge you even when you agree to pay for shipping instead of the buyer. I have not ever used there shipping method and yet I still get charged for it. PLEASE do not sell your items on this site. BEWARE.

Tried to make a purchase on Mercari... seller contacts me within hours claiming she sold them on a different site (super unprofessional!)... so I tried to buy a different pair of shoes from a different vendor... within a few hours mercari cancels my order and suspends my account... requests a bunch of personal info and come to find out I dont get my money back in time to purchase the present I need to for Christmas... why do they wait to ask for info until after they have your money?... super shady... avoid this site like the plague
