I placed an order for an item. Mercari reached out twice for the seller to ship the item. Upon seeing that Mercari reached out, I did as well. Then this seller decided to get angry with me and called me ugly. I responded telling her that I merely wanted an update oh my order, and that her calling me ugly was inappropriate. I found her rude unkind. So please beware of this 'shop'. She is rude. She cancelled the order so that I could not leave her a review. I did notify Mercari, but I doubt anything will come of it.
It you need to reach out to customer support for any reason it will be the biggest nightmare. It is a robotic copy and paste message. Try to stay away it is not worth it.
Beware of buying from this site as returning an item will be impossible. I bought a backgammon set, when arrived I noticed that there was a large mark on one outer side and the actual inside field was peeling. When asked for a return they asked so many irrelevant questions and images that was evident that they did not want to approve the return.
For example they asked for the images of the box that arrived which had nothing to do with the condition of the game box, or images of places that had no damage.
They never addressed the fact that the images sent showed existing damage when they declined a measly $40.00 game set.
Will NEVER buy from this site regardless of the price.
Make sure you never end up on Mecari's hit list. I had a listing reported as not being authentic. I reported to them that it was and the verification reasons with pictures, but they said if someone reported it, it could not be undone.
I tried to list a mystery box of women's clothes with types of clothes, sizes, etc AND I even put pics of the clothes that the buyer may receive. They immediately flagged it and removed it. I went through the site and marked quite a few other mystery listings as well as took pictures of those listings. I was told that they could not target all listings and told me if I placed it again, they would withhold all my earnings without any warning or expected return. Every day I am finding more listings and reporting them as quickly as I can. It's unfair and they need to do a better job!
Steer clear at all costs. No customer service or support for buyers or sellers. Highly recommend sticking to more established options.
THEY ARE A COMPLETE JOKE. I HAD ORDERED SOMETHING SIMPLE TO SHIP. I ORDERED THIS ON 2-20 today is 3-6. I tell them there's no tracking no updates they told me their policy is to wait 30 days. I bought a sculpture from Mercari. I wasn't home until more than 3 days after delivery, so Mercari says that I am SOL. Seller wants me to file claim with shipping company. Shipping company says that I can't file claim because I didn't ship the item.

Not worth it. You buy an item that you found, get it shipped, says it's delivered yet NEVER was, as I was home, and they require you to do all the work to create a claim with USPS. I have been a longtime member buyer and seller on Mercari. And I have sold a lot! In January I sold a lamp it shipped Fedex from MiddletonTn to Chattanooga Tn Mercari claimed that Fedex said the shipping weight was 53 lbs 1oz that was incorrect it was 12 pounds 8 oz I always put a little more than the actual weight so it was 14 pounds and it cost $22. On my post. After several inquiries with Mercari employees on the website they closed it and said Fedex charged 53.1 lbs it cost 342.94 to ship and we owe you nothing. I contacted Fedex two different times and they sent proof of the actual charges they charged Mercari on that tracking number on my package and it was $12.35 so my part of that sale after Mercari takes a big bite out was a little over 277.00 which I never received they still insist Fedex is the one who is at fault. I contacted the CEO John Langerling on Facebook and LinkedIn with No Respond. All the customer service numbers listed are recorded messages telling you to respond in Mercari website. This company is based in Japan with a US office in Palo Alto California and the CEO info says he's based in Las Vegas Nv. I guess my next move is my attorney and I think it is absolutely crazy to have a company that you can not make a phone call and talk to a live person That's just poor business to me. I recently bough a pool cleaner,aparently like new with very low use, when it arrived it was missing the rubber tracks,the seller said he will send the missing pieces and never did and After 3 days no further claim can be done,customer sevice said they can't do nothing
Purchased something for the first time through this website, firstly if you have an issue with part of an item (of multiple items) you have to return the entire purchase, they should limit sellers to sell single items for this reason but don't. They don't encourage or support buyers for sellers improperly packaging items to prevent damage. If you return an item or have any issues you cannot rate the seller. This site is terribly run, there's no organization, there isn't any protection or support for buyer. I do not recommend and will never buy anything from here again.
They allow sellers to sell filthy clothing. Deny your request to return. Close your case to turn around and rate the seller 5 stars. Where in the world is it ok to sell dirty items and then reward the seller 5 stars? Customer service dismisses your issues and closes your case. DO NOT BUY FROM MERCARI! Try using Poshmark, FB Market Place or ebay where they aren't bias and dismissive!
Mercari fails follow own policies re returns. They violate their return policy repeatedly. They also mostly promote Japanese products and helps them get most sales and higher $ they do wrong things. They make wrong decisions on returns violate policy

Being a seller on here is ok but being a buyer sucks because people lie and misrepresent items they are selling, plus mercari says their prepaid labels save you 25% off cost of shipping but post office showed me proof that they have a 25-50% increase on label cost so they can pocket more money on the transaction. Pretty much a scam all around and sellers beware because people will purchase your item and send their crappy one back to you in its place like you sent them a piece of crap, this happens alot with jewelry items and designer clothing/handbags.

Email and chat responses from support are irrelevant. The seller was also perplexed by the Mercari error blaming Paypal. Paypal said no errors on their end and my cc company said they saw no transactions. Mercari support would not take ownership of their bug. Sad since ebay and facebook marketplace need competition yet Mercari is off to a bad start.
I bought a product worth $300+ from the Seller which was shipped to the wrong address. I reached out to the Seller but received no response. I contacted the Mercari customer service to assist but they noted that once a product has been shipped they cannot help. This is terrible Buyer Protection.
