There is no recourse with this site / platform. When you purchase something, you only have 3 days to contact them if there is an issue, AND YOU CAN'T CONTACT THEM! I did my first purchase with them, there was an issue with it. I tried repeatedly to contact them, but there website has glitches in it that it doesn't work (kept rejecting me saying invalid email address) (I've had the same email for over 22 years, and it's correct...). It's a ridiculous scam. It was my first purchase through them, and will be my last. Think about it, if someone is legitimately selling something, the will sell it on ebay and NOT this cheezy Mercari site. Buyer beware!
Im a first time customer and bought a pair of shoes. The listing said 7 but the shoes were too wide and too big. When i contacted mercari, they ignored me. So did the seller. Plus they kept closing my help requests, and refused to let me return for refund. Bad customer service.
I bought a remote for a Christmas present, and it turned out to be defective. But because they demand acknowledgement of satisfaction with three days of receipt, I could not return it. It was sitting under the tree wrapped for that time. It was only after the holiday that it was opened and tried to be used. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY. They do not care about the customer. If I could have given zero stars, I would have done so.
This company is literally a criminal organization! They flag and suspend your account stating your selling fake items! When you provide the receipt and authenticity cards they ignore the information and repetitively ignore and respond with pre written excuses and leave you without no options! They make themselves absolutely unavailable for questions and responds through email if your lucky. All for the specific intent and purpose to steal your balance in your account. You can read the thousands of reviews just like mine! They try to break you down and make you give up! I've spoken to BBB I've reached out to FTC waiting for help retrieving my balance of $1306! No help as of yet! Beware of this criminal platform! Absolutely disgusting and criminal company that needs to be taken down!
Mercari sent my seller the wrong address label so now the package is coming to me instead of my daughter. They blamed the problem on the seller when Mercari is the one on charge of address labels!
I requested a refund of the shipping fees of $11.50 and they say the seller must issue that. Wrong! Mercari handles all financial transactions! So now I'll have to reship the item at my expense to my daughter. Will never again use Mercari!

I purchased a handbag and the wrong size was sent to me and I wanted to return it but they wouldn't let me. They also say that until you rate the seller, they don't get paid but they paid anyway. There's absolutely no "Buyers Protection" here but I guess some buyers got lucky
Mercari what a horror experience! It took quite a few emails and ridiculous photographs to return that expensive garbage to the seller.
Mercari's customer service is horrific, there's no customer service phone number and no way to chat with anyone online. You have to email them in hopes they will get back to you, but even then you'll probably have to reach out at least 3 times. They also banned my account indefinitely for "excessive use of keywords" when I consistently described my items accurately and just wrote detailed item descriptions. Don't forget when that happens, they SCAM YOU out of all of your funds and keep the money you have on hold! I had over 750 transactions and 742 of them were 5 stars with so many repeat buyers. Stick with eBay, customer service is way better and they won't ban you for dumb things and steal your money.
BE CAREFUL when doing returns, for if the carrier (USPS or UPS) lose the package and there is NO tracking, MERCARI will not file a claim on your behalf. The return label they submit to you for a return is under THEIR account and they will NOT pursue a lost claim! I actually handed the UPS driver the package that they sent the label for (the return), he scanned it and I then checked the status and it was in the system. 2 days later, no sign of package and Mercari will NOT file claim. To them, it seems like I never returned it even though when I chatted with UPS, they stated it is lost!

I'm a shopper and look for good reliable online stores. I'm usually pretty good at finding deals. Well until I purchased something from Mercari. Oh boy was I taken for a ride. The item (backpack) was advertised as an XL on the site. When the backpack came it was clearly NOT A XL but a classic standard size as the label said it was. I went to the website to make sure I wasn't losing my mind that the XL backpack's label would show XL and not classic. You only have 3 days to decide if you want to keep it so the merchant can get paid. Well due to this busy Christmas season I inspected the backpack on day 4 and immediately contacted Mercari explaining that the item was FALSELY ADVERTISED. I gave them the web site to see the 4 different sizes of the backpack showing them that I rec'd a smaller one not the XL as advertised. Mercari could CARE LESS that I didn't get what was advertised and Not standing behind the buyer. I wrote them 3 times and each time They DENIED me a refund …So everyone out there DO NOT BUY FROM THIS CORRUPT SITE.
I sold an item on Mercari, it weighted less than 8 oz's I dropped the item off at the post office, by the time it reached the buyer it gained 5lbs, so Mercari charged me $14.51 the entire amount of the sale. When I explained to them that it wasn't true, they did nothing! I had the buyer verify that the package was less than 8oz's still they did nothing. I showed them that 2 other sellers sold the same item and what they paid for shipping they still did nothing. They did nothing to show me that the post office charged an additional amount for shipping they just took my money. I had sold 40 items on the Mercari site and received 5 stars for every sale, but they still did nothing to help me! If the post office made a mistake so be it, but with Mercari only the seller is at fault. Mercari does nothing to help or protect their seller. So if you are considering selling on this site, don't do it!
You only have a 72 hour window to return an item. The return process is very cumbersome and unfriendly, to the point that they probably hope you just give up. If you do manage to get to the "Submit Request" button, you get an error message "There was an error, please try again"... and again and again.
Mercari is terrible. They require you to write a review within three days of receiving your package, even if you're out of town. I ordered boots that came with a huge rip along the side. Obviously, this was not shown when I ordered them. They refused to issue a refund or help in any way whatsoever. They sell damaged goods and do nothing to help their customers. Terrible customer service. Terrible policies.
I purchased a toy right before Christmas and paid alot for shipping to get it here in time. I didn't open within the 3 days you are allowed. (I opened it 1 day too late) I hid it from my kids so they wouldn't see their present and opened it Christmas eve to wrap for my kids. Broken! The seller gave me the response, you have 3 days to open it. The company won't do anything because it's past 3 days. So my advice is open the box asap because they will not help you at all of its after those 3 days

Most items (99.9%) are 20 years old to over 100 years old.
So no I don't have original sales slips on most items.
They know NOTHING about this type of product line and as many people here have said, they just reply with a generic messages that has nothing to do with the issue.
I am sure by the names, none of these people are USA based. All seem to be in Europe by the names I see (first only).
To come out of nowhere, with this demand and in Christmas Eve no less AND them boot me in 1/2 the time asked for is complete BS.
My feedback is that Mercari is a company that does not care about customer satisfaction. I purchased one article from two that were being sold. The seller sent me the wrong one and Mercari basically ignored my claim by refusing to process the return that I requested even after I submitted sufficient evidence (pictures) to proof to you that was right and that the seller was acting in bad faith. Mercari is supposed to safeguard their customers business without being scammed.
