Mercari does not offer the right protection to buyers.
First of all, there are too many counterfeit goods in Mercari.
After realizing that I bought a fake, I am in the middle of returning it.
However, Seller is acting in bad faith holding the delivery of the return at USPS.
Therefore, according to Mercari procedure the refund will be delayed.
Their procedure has clearly flaws and need to be improved to better protect Buyers who act in good faith but result being harmed.
They do not resolve issues fairly. A buyer bought my new item damaged it (looks like their dog chewed it) they said they wanted to return it, Mercari approved their return and basically said the decision is final. So basically someone can damage a new item that you can prove was new and say that it was not as described and you as a seller have no protection. So you not only lose the sale you lose the ability to sell your item because the buyer either switched the item or lied. I suggest selling elsewhere.
THIS IS A TERRIBLE PLATFORM TO SELL ITEMS ON. AVOID IT AT ALL COST. I CAN SEE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THE HORIZON FOR MERCARI.
I used Mercari to sell my Barbie dolls and other collectable dolls. I sold all of them but one buyer opened one of my Brand New, Unopened Barbie dolls and detached the head from the neck when trying to pull it out of the box. The buyer returned it blaming me for sending a defective doll. I sent Mercari pictures of the opened and ripped box to compare with my listing pictures showing the box wasn't opened nor ripped. Mercari took the buyer's side leaving me with a damaged doll that I can't sell now.
Compare the picture of the doll I sent with the picture of the one with broken neck.
I generally like this company, however the "return" policy Stinks. Before I purchased my Gucci shirt,I asked the seller about the sizing and told him what I usually wear. The "seller" assured me it would fit. Well,it didn't. I wanted to "exchange" for another size that was being sold and they Declined. The "seller" claimed he would,but no real action towards it...worse return policy & they seem just concerned about their "cut" from sales... Warning! Make sure it's something you know you can Fit from them.Bad Customer service!
Beware if you receive an item not as described and need to return it. Custom support is non existent.
I received a reply say they are investigating and that was it. I did received a reply for the case that stated my item had been removed due to shipping restrictions, however I was a buyer I didn't have a listing to take down.
All my replies have gone unanswered.

They advertise wrong sizes on their website and refuse returns after that. They create so many hurdles to returns that it's not worth it to take the risk of receiving a wrongfully described item. For instance they will not accept your returns if you do not send a number of pictures within 24h and they never tell you that. Be extra careful when buying here because you will not be able to return anything you buy.

By becoming a seller or buyer, you allow the app to have your name, address, credit card info etc. Now they're asking for government issued ID and face recognition!?!?! Talk about invasion! Too creepy for ALL my information to be stored in the app-gives me stolen identity vibes
My recent transaction has been especially exasperating because I needed fast shipping. I was assured by the seller's profile that she is a QUICK and RELIABLE shipper, but was forced to discover that she is totally UNRESPONSIVE and that Mercari refuses to provide a refund so that I can purchase the item elsewhere. The FTC needs to crack down on this business for its false advertising and refusal to provide refunds for goods not received.
I had an amp I sent out to a buyer for sale the guy opened the back voided warranty mecari said I was at a loss and that there wasn't enough proof the item had been opened. Dude talked about just sending the same amp off to be fixed. Isn't that a coincidence huh? Mecari doesn't investigate they side with whatever makes them money. They treat people very poorly and use there keyboard power to screw people over. I personally won't be buying or selling off this site again I'm out over 250 buck. Thanks mecari for nothing.
There is no protection for Sellers when it comes to unfair false ratings and giving the buyer rights to return items that was greatly detailed and photographed. Mercari ignores the rights for Sellers and always take the side of the buyer when they are at wrong. They also give the buyer 7 days to return item instead of 3 days they inpatient about the seller sending the item. It a waste of time and money when Mercari doesn't review the Seller's side of the sale. They even allowed a buyer to return lotion that was opened. It's unfair to us Sellers this way with price hikes like 3 times a year of their selling and processing fees and on top of their shipping fees. A very one sided unethical company.I'm
I made a sale shipped the day I told the buyer and she canceled while it was in post office, and still she keep my longchamp and mercari refund her money, how nice, I lost my sale and my bag, mercari didn't help me at all. First time I had problems with them.

Mercari is a terrible place for sellers and a haven for buyers out to steal and scam. I recently sold a pair of new Ferragamo loafers to a buyer ("W"). For some reason the buyer canceled the order after they were delivered (perhaps they didn't fit or he changed his mind). Because I don't accept returns, he went ahead and falsely accused me of prohibitive behavior to cancel the order, which in turn got my account restricted before they even reviewed anything (and I'm still waiting for this review - they're very slow). Totally unfair and unacceptable how a seller could be so powerless in this situation. Now my account is wrongfully restricted pending review, I don't have money from the sale, and I don't have my shoes. It's a terrible process that handicaps sellers and makes them too vulnerable. Shame on you Mercari. Never selling on your platform again. Poshmark and Vestiare collective are far superior, for sellers anyway.
If I could give Mercari a negative rating I would. People especially buyers should be warned of Mercari. After buying on Mercari, Inc. for almost two months it is easy to see they side on the side of the seller. If you are a buyer, you're nothing. I tried to close my account today but because I have a transaction in progress I can't. My order was paid for on 6/25/23, two weeks ago. For my last two Mercari tranactions they had to send reminders to the sellers to ship my order. This last order was a Hollister jacket that cost $24. Shipping was $12.30 by UPS Ground. When I learned seller was using UPS I told her she could ship by USPS Priority Mail for $7.99 and that I would receive my order in three days. She refused and shipped my order three days later on 6/28/23.11 days later on 7/8/23 and I sit here without my order. UPS will only deal with the shipper, not the recipient. They have a new phone system in place so now it's even harder to get connected to a live body. If you don't say the right words the system automatically hangs up on you. When I reached out to Mercari their response was wait until July 28 or over one month from the date of purchase, i.e., June 25. Had this been eBay, PoshMark or Etsy they would never have allowed this to happen and certainly not expected me to wait a full month. In closing, if you don't mind waiting three days until your order ships, paying $12.30 for shipping and waiting 11 days for your purchase then by all means shop on Mercari. My order finally arrived today. Incredibly the seller has a high feedback rating. Nice wrap job.
You can only talk to Customer Service via email. When I called the phone number it said that there was no live service for my area. I purchased an item from the seller (eric's funhouse). The item he sent me was damaged and not what was advertised. I messages directly to the seller and he told me just to toss it, and he would send me a new one. I contacted him on the day I received the item. I never heard from him so I asked her for a tracking number, but he didn't respond. I want to message him again to find that he blocked me. I contacted Mercari and they said they couldn't do anything because I had already rated my seller. Well, I didn't rate my seller, Mercari does that if you don't contact them directly after 72 hours of receiving the item. Mercari assumes everything is settled. I have contacted them on several occasions and they seem to all be robots. To allow such sellers to remain on their platform will definitely chase customers away. After looking through all of his reviews, it shows that he has deleted a lot of his feedback, so it only shows positive feedback. For Mercari to allow them to do this is a dishonest as it allows him to control his ratings. Please do not use this system. There are plenty of other places to purchase items that do give you customer service and can protect you from these shady dealers like Eric's warehouse.below is what eric's warehouse advertised. The orange and blue bows are what I received. The last is the message where he agreed to resend. I am not only a buyer, I am a seller on ebay as well. I purchased a bracelet from a seller on their site. I asked the seller if the bracelet was real and they said yes. When I took it to get cleaned I found out it was fake. I purchased the bracelet on May 10th. Today is July 7th. Per their website you only have 15 days to claim anything on a purchase. Well, I only found out this late because I wanted to have my bracelet cleaned. Mercari said there is nothing they can do. I paid $300+ for this item and they couldn't even off a $100 credit, nothing. This was fraud and basically my money was stolen for an item that I was told was real and was actually fake. Mercari offered nothing but a robotic response. I have contacted the BBB and filed a complaint, including one for criminal activity.

I have ordered the sonus subwoofer Gen. 3 from 4 different people and all 4 were shipped and shipped to a different address and confirming with Post Office. Neither package was mine or even resembled mine. I even went to a couple of the addresses the post office gave me and talked to the owner of the property never seen a package for me. Every time they sent me an email with the excuse. Wasn't sure if packets were sent, so they canceled my order and refunded my money.
I purchased some Febreze refills on one, and I received them they were bootleg. They did not fit in any for breeze holders that I could find.
