“Its a useful place for computer bits and pieces!”

I build systems for myself and having a local business that stocks just about everything you could want for computer tinkering is awesome! I have had good luck buying new and refurbished/ returned laptops there too.

“They don't even respond to ANY of there numerous 1 star reviews!”

DON K.
8/21/24

AFTER reading numerous poor reviews and having a personal crappy experience from an indifferent cashier and an equally dispassionate manager, I can easily concur that when there are issues with products, caching out "supposed discounts" or anything to do with making things RIGHT with customers! The staff and especially the management give off a "I really DON'T give a damn about your problem" attitude, no matter how grievious the wrong done to the customer. Had I not needed the purchases for my daughter to begin homeschooling my gr4anddaughters the next day, I would have left the entire shopping cart of items right there on the cashier counter and walked out, NEVER looking back! I tell EVERYONE I can, about my sucky experience with this entity, and even after numerous calls to see if ANYONE CARES, I have yet to even get a response, by email, phone, text, voicemail, from ANYONE in the corporation... ' attitude

Don't buy the Power Spec. We have had three different ones in the past month, all with the same hardware issue. What a waste of time! This is totally unacceptable Micro Center!

Salesperson said about a computer we were looking at looks like that's out of your price range if you don't mind me saying, without even first asking what our price range was.

Took my 1 1/2 year old laptop to Microcenter for repair when it shut down after I heard a "pop". At Microcenter, the technician plugged it in using a store changing unit and again, it wouldn't boot up. I left the computer with the service center. The technician opened it up, plugged it back in and supposedly "saw smoke and it had an odor". I didn't see smoke or smell anything when it shut down at home nor did it happen when we checked it at the store. The tech said I need a mother board for about $1200. 00. The tech disconnected the battery, closed it back up and I took it home. When I got home I plugged it in and it started normally. I opened the case, reconnect the battery and the computer began working as expected. Why it started working again, I don't know. What I do know is that the technician's diagnosis was bull****. Either this was pure incompetence or Microcenter's trying to get away with something. I would not recommend Microcenter's repair service.

This service seems to me the best among all those I've already tried! The prices are really affordable and the fixing of the problem is always performed at a top level. Great!

It doesn't matter where I leave this review. Either it be the.com side of the company or the retail side the experience should be the same. When locating this review site it said that Micro Center was rated a 3. Something and that MOST customers were happy with their purchase. My purchase was today at the Bethel Road Columbus, Ohio location. We purchased a computer workstation for our home office with the help of Matt who was very helpful and answered all of our questions with sound information and advice. This is where it becomes a terrible $1600+ purchasing decision. We get home to set it up and find that the computer shows an error "no hard drive". We tried to contact the store by phone and couldn't speak to a human being? Had to drive back across town to return and replace. Asked to speak to a manager and was introduced to Tom Welsh the general manager of the store. We explained our disappointment with our experience and he REFUSED to provide any remedy for us other than to swap the machine. Not even an apology but an excuse blaming Dell computers for our mishap. This experience was so bad that I had to write this review. You would have thought a heartfelt apology or something could have made this better. This man saw the dollars and not the customer. They should learn to do better.

I recently went to Micro Center to purchase a new iPad to replace my old iPad Air. I was so excited. A supervisor finally helped me and proceeded to show me 2 iPads. She seemed friendly and knowledgeable enough. She pushed the one that was on sale that day. I asked why the price was so low ($300) and she said it was just an excellent sales price. When I got home I realized I had inadvertently purchased a wi-fi only iPad. My salesperson never mentioned this when she was touting the features. Is it my responsibility to know or remember to prompt the sales staff to tell me all the features? Now I'm stuck with an iPad with no option to buy a data plan for it. So if I'm not home I hate having to go into a McDonalds or Starbucks to be able to use this nearly-worthless (to me anyway) piece of dead equipment. It doesn't help that I had to stand around for 10 minutes before I could find anyone willing to help, even though at the time there were 5 young (under 30) employees laughing and talking amongst themselves and ignoring my presence. That made my disheartening purchase all the worse.

This excellent gaming PC was the best choice I could have ever made for which PC to start with. I highly recommend this PC to anyone and everyone who needs a futuristic state of the art PC. The PC purchase I chose was a pre-built which may not be first choice to others but if you are just starting I would consider it.

Tip for consumers:
I highly recommend getting a PC or electronic from micro center.

The Chicago location is very good for supplies such as paper and ink. However, when I took my laptop in for diagnosis and repair they initially said it would be ready in 2 days. When I went in to pick it up they had not started working on it yet. The next week they called me and said they needed to order a part. It was 3 weeks later before they had it done. The same problem recurred just over 2 months later and they said there was only a 60 DAY WARRANTY ON PARTS AND SERVICE!

Hi Mary,

So sorry this happened, I just came across your review. If you had the same issue happen 2 months later, we actually have a 90 day warranty on parts and service so I apologize you were given incorrect information. Can you email me further details to custrel@microcenter.com? I will see how we can assist you.

Thanks,
James

Be careful everyone! I ordered an in-stock item on-line at 10am and after using my credit card it was suppose to be reserved. I was supposed to receive an e-mail to pick up the item within 25min, is what they advertise. I waited till 4pm and still no e-mail to pick up the item, so I called customer service and was told that the Tustin store was behind on picking the orders. I was told to go to the store and they will just pick up the item off the shelf for me, after driving 35miles to the store I found out that the item was no longer available and they canceled my order, but they recommended a comparable racing wheel for $150 more!

We buy all of our electronics from MicroCenter. They have the best prices. In the last year we have bought a chromebook, a MacBook Pro, and a bunch of accessories and saved hundreds. My only complaint is they wouldn't allow my wife to buy Ipads for her classroom with grant money. They have some deal with Apple that they won't sell to the schools.

When you ask for help at the 'build your own' counter, it becomes nothing more than a pissing contest. You get some snot-nose jerk or 30 yr. Old know-it-all that doesn't really listen, because in thier mind they already know everything. Something as simple as a liquid metal repaste turns into a lecture on risk vs reward, despite the fact tthe machine came with liquid metal already installed, Who knew, the clerk knows more than the engineer that desinged it? Go figure. And this happens all the time. I'm so glad these scholars skipped computer sceince and electrical engineering and went straight to the sales floor. Here's a hint: It's okay not to know everything. Now, quality. I reccommend not buying anything serious from this place. Canned air, hand tools and an occassional controller is fine. But if you need something that is a core compnent like laptop, printer or what-not, stay away. Believe me, in 6 months to a year you will be replacing it.

I went to microcenter to get a water cooler for my i9 13th gen. When I arrived a sails rep came to help me, he knew what cpu I was looking to cool and recommended the Kraken X73. I double checked with him to make shure that it had the correct mounting hardware, he said it did. I bought it went home and it did not have the mounting hardware. I had to contact NZXT support to get the attachment which added an extra week to my buld. I wont go back to Micro Center ever again.

I brought my laptop to Micro Center to get a blown cooling fan fixed/replaced. The reason I chose Micro Center was because I figured they would have the part on site and I wouldn't have to wait the 7-10 days for them to order it. I was wrong. They told me the part would arrive in 3-4 days and the repair would be completed in 7-8 days. It wasn't. I'd be okay with that, but there was zero communication. There is no phone number to call and the "service update" text number on the receipt is apparently not monitored. When I finally got a phone call (despite specifying all communications by text) I went to get my computer. The young man at the counter was also the technician who worked on my computer. He laughed and said that he had forgotten to connect the display wires and had to go back and redo that. He slid my laptop across the counter and I asked him where the power block and cords were? He looked mystified. He disappeared into the back and came out several minutes later with them, again assuring me that the computer works 100% perfect! Maybe I should have asked him then and there to show me. Ah well... hindsight. Got home, plugged it in and... nothing. Stayed up all night, into the morning trying to get it to work. Got it to flicker a little bit of life, enough to do a factory reset. *sigh* Nope, even that didn't help. I cannot emphasize enough, never, ever, EVER go to Micro Center for your tech repair needs. I don't know how they stay in business.

Recently I visited the store in Fairfax, Virginia, looking for an SSD drive. One of my friends and I had researched it on line and narrowed it down to two choices. The store was not crowded, but there seemed to be few staff available, and finding the drive was a huge challenge. When I finally got t the right area, after several misdirections, I found a staff member who didn't know anything about the drives, and a big case of stuff cluttering the floor in that aisle so that it was hard to navigate. Then a big guy wanted to get past and accused me of being disrespectful when I didn't get out of his way fast enough, partly because I didn't see how to do that. No help from staff, of course, and find a manager? Yeah, right. On my way out, looking for someone to whom I could complain, I found one very helpful guy, Conor Heanus, who actually knew what to get for me and how to get it without my having to run the maze and the gauntlet yet again. I will try my very best never to set foot in that chaotic menagerie again.

Very good selection with decent prices for a retail store. But truly, since most of the stock they carry is available mail order for 25%-50% less, its hard to imagine buying anything unless (1) you need it immediately, or (2) you plan on returning it.

I've also had a problem with a discourteous salesperson. Suffice to say that they are not ALL as customer-friendly as one might hope. If it was just one, I wouldn't mention it, but its happened several times. The common problem is that they seem to think they are the experts and all customers are ignorant. Ahhh. But I'm not ignorant, and probably know a lot more about the technology than they do in some cases. More than once, asking about a detail in the technical specifications has gotten me a snippy response. In such cases, I take it that they either don't know or the answer (if they gave it) would be a negative.

But they beat the prices and selection available in local department stores. So, if I desperately need a new memory card, I might get it at Micro Center. Or, if its a price-fixed item like one of the Apple products, Micro Center might be the best bet. That just doesn't happen very often for me.

When I purchased my Lenovo computer at MicroCenter in Marietta, GA, I had a heart-to-heart with the salesman. I told him I didn't want an extended warranty because my Gateway Laptop stayed at Gateway for over a year and I had to buy a new one anyway. He told me that because the repairs are done locally at Microcenter, they had resolved the problem of long repair times. I bought a 3-year warranty. That was around January, this is October. The desktop failed and I got a replacement. The desktop failed again, and I contacted Lenovo to see if they could fix it, and they referred me to BestBuy saying BestBuy would have the failed motherboard and could repair it within 24 hours. BestBuy, on the other hand, told me they needed 3 days for diagnostics, and then they would ship it to Lenovo, which would take another 3-4 weeks, plus shipping. So, I reluctantly took it back to Microcenter. They told me 10 days to do the diagnostics and then they would most likely ship it back to Lenovo for repair, and that it would be over a month.

I can't be without a computer for a week, much less a month. I've clearly made a bad purchase with this Lenovo T5 26IOB6 computer and a 3-year Microcenter warranty. A warranty that takes a month to repair a desktop that just needs the thermal grease replaced is unacceptable. The repair is done. I paid for it out of my pocket. It's the second repair I've paid for out of pocket. It took about 3 hours at a reputable repair shop. But if it fails again you can certainly count on another review.

Read this if you stream and buy high end stuff.
** they will not value your time and will give attitude if you try to warranty your $2500+ equipment **
I usually shop here for all my tech stuff and streaming equipment,
My 2,600 dollar gaming pc started acting up and the graphics card is running too hot, I tried to get a replacement because I had my " 2 years extended warranty "
Which is a $250 worth of scam they wanted to take my pc in to check it then call me to come back again to tell me what they think,
I live two hours away and I work from home I can't be without a PC for couple of days,
When they sold me the pc and the warranty they said it's no questions asked replacement, which was a lie,
The service desk guy was talking to me with an attitude and kept saying " let me finish what I'm saying " when I wasn't even saying anything, that's not the attitude they give you when you're spending money there!.
I took my pc back i didn't leave it there because it's no convenient to me to make the drive again and again while they decide what to do.
Why do you sell the extended warranty as if it was no question asked replacement?
We have 3 accounts there with total of 10,000 dollars spent in 2021-2022.
I don't recommend buying anything from this store, take your business somewhere else if you going to spend as much money as I do on PCs and streaming stuff.
We have 3 gaming PC to upgrade soon I'm 100% not going to micro center to get my parts from, going to Best Buy at least the service department doesn't have an attitude and they value people time.

Issue with MicroCenter online retailer. Don't use their online order system. Ordered a item from the online web store. Cancelled the order within a few hours of the order placement. Removed the item from my order history and sent an contact notification using the MicroCenter browser tool on the Customer Service page. I drove several hours and picked up the item at a MicroCenter store. A few days later I saw the pending charge to my credit card. It was for the online order. Sent another contact notification telling the online web store to cancel the pending charge and cancel the order. I was told it was cancelled. Three days later MicroCenter shipped the item from the online order. I sent another contact notification asking what the hell are they doing sending the item. I've asked multiple times for the order to be cancelled. I get an apology from Sean Molnar and a FEDEX return label. I return the item the same day it is delivered. Dropped it off at Walgreens. Never opened the shipment box. FEDEX shows it delivered the next day. Five days later I'm still waiting for my refund of $276. Don't use this company. Completely incompetent employees!

I bought a $50.00 set of earbuds at the recommendation of a sales associate. I was unable to try them on in the store so I went home to try them on. They fell out of my ears in all possible configurations. I tried to return them the next day. The return line was out the door so I came back three days later. After waiting several minutes, I was sent to a cashier by the security guard to ring the refund and was told, for the first time, by the cashier that no refunds were being done due to Covid-19. This was not explained by the original cashier nor the salesperson at the time of the transaction. The refunding cashier said that I could try later. I texted the store manager a week later to ask when they would begin taking returns on ear buds. I received the reply, "We are not currently accepting returns for them due to COVOD-19." and a link to their Return policy. He also replied, "We are only able to exchange earphones within 30 days of purchase if they are defective, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." It's been 10 days and now I'm screwed out of fifty bucks, three round trips of gas and I am left with defective earphones that fall out of my ears.

The company is taking advantage of customers due to the COVID-19. In the last 15 years I have bought six computers and three printers and annually replaced Anti-virus software from Micro Center, St. Louis Park, MN. Never another dime.
