“Great! But if under 18 or so a parent should supervise if possible”

Holly G.
5/5/24

Model Mayhem is great! I've worked with it for years and have made lots of side gig money. Be wary of photographers trying to get free nude work. And minors should be supervised I think. But it's fun and can be profitable.

Top Critical Review

“Nice website but completely lacking customer service...”

James A.

Nice website but completely lacking customer service and over sight. No phone numbers, direct emails, managers etc. If you want a refund or have a problem don't waste your time trying to resolve it. They just ignore everything while laughing in a bubble. I'm actually surprised the parent company doesn't get more involved.

This site is a waste of time. 95% of the models are not really models and many of the photographers are not really photographers.

Most of the 'models' are silly, narcissistic attention-seekers and their behaviour has given me a massive respect for the actual 'real' models I have met and photographed that have had nothing to do with Model Mayhem.

The function of MM then is, like EVERYTHING ON THE WEB, to give people a 'fake' sense of their own empowerment and to socially control people by forcing them to look at computer screens all day.

Want a model? Go to a real modelling agency. Want a Photographer? Find a good one and pay him/her for their work as you would pay for a plumber.

Model Mayhem is run'd by IB. Internet Blunders. IB has this massive Fraud of numbers game going on. IB says there are 900,000 plus "Active Members" when in fact there are only 180,000 Members on a regular basis. The site is poorly run'd... with constant BUGS ruining a possible good thing.

IB. Internet Blunders... has zero clue on running this website. The only thing that is consistent about Model Mayhem is the massive inconsistent behavior. 100,000's of Customers have left Model Mayhem... because of the way IB. Internet Blunders runs MM. Stay Away. Do not waste your value time or Monies. The MODS who run MM. Are these collective Collasal failures. No one at MM are on the same page.

What do you call a Company Like IB, Internet Blunders. That intentionally defrauds their Customers? IB. Internet Blunders... how many Inactive Members are on MM? 800,000plus!

The website as idea is good. BUT the team working on this website are horrible. If you have a questions they will take between month - 2 months to get back to you. If you have issue ofcourse it will not be solved and the last thing they will say "IT'S YOUR PROBLEM". They are so UN-professional.

They will ask you for money even though the website is free but the money will asked for to add you on VIP so you can send and receive or contact more models. They just closed my account and they didn't return the money back. The reason of closing as they are saying it "that I was denied before by modelmayhem.com" WHICH NEVER EVER HAPPENED.

If you really wanna meet professional people I would suggest photosig.com. Those modelmayhem are horrible and doesn't even worth the 1 star

The Biggest Failure. Internet Brand who owns Model Mayhem produces a Major Lie when you sign up for MM. It looks like there are thousands of Models, when in fact there is only a handful Current Models on MM. MM counts every account as CURRENT. Making it seem like there are Thousands and Thousands of Models…when there is no one. Old inactive accounts, Models who have not logged on in years …are all counted as CURRENT. So you see Internet Brands makes more Funds by Lying to Advertisers. Millions, but there is no one on MM. MM is run'd by Managers who are Failures. Stay very clear from Model Mayhem.

I had an account since 2016 and it was closed for no reason. I don't log in everyday but checked for messages at least once a month. They closed my account and refuse to open it without giving me a reason. I tried several times to contact them but they didn't respond. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE!

Models wanting to "colaborate" and some willing to give "first one free" then blackmail you. One reason they are banned from airport and most publicwifi is they are front for escorts and strippers. Stay away!

The people that are creating a commnity there is great. You can learn allot from the photographers in the forums and it is some very talented people there. However, the MODERATORS are control freaks and I truly believe they are bored and tend to go a little overboard with their power to grant people an account and take them away by using loosely defined terms of service. The first thing they did was clean out allot of the older members by finding minor instances to remove them "improper use of BB code" or "Representing as an agency or promotion company" and other creative ways to clear out the free members who initially could upload 30 photos but new members are limited to 15. There are other instances of taking sides in a dispute, and blatant racismI've read tales of in some forums. I would not go back even if they paid me and I now know there are plenty of alternatives available.

He fondled numerous models in Arizona and felt no remorse when confronted. Offered alcohol, Adderol and pot to relax or up the ampage of shoots. He also said since we signed model releases, we could not complain, and would not allow chaperones into studio. Would ONLY shoot with those who would pose nude, as he said you needed to be comfortable "with his style". Peverted old man, MODELS stay away!

I Give a Minus Zero off the scale! I have been a photographer for over 30 years in film with models got awards for some images as was rejected as a Professional Photographer! No $#*! I am a Freelance like some of the models who take there own Cell Phone images for there site? I finally got enough digital model images to get a Real Site if you want to call it that not ONE DAM model has excepted a session why I want TFP and they all want Big $$$ for their work of a few years! I have experience and a degree in graphic design took college photography classes know how to light a subject, but that has nothing to do with this terrible site will take my site down soon and look into my own website, or another site! MM is bogus plus you have to pay for your level as a photographer and models do not?

This site invites a forum for the like minded... those interested in networking to find a model, photographer, hair or mua. It welcomes newbies and all those aspiring to do and be more. It does not guarantee that you would have a good experience or that because you say you MODEL that you can or if you say you are PHOTOGRAPHER that you are perfect. In my opinion, it is a good site for this. Of course, you have to be careful and wise about your decisions

I was a member of Model Mayhem a few years ago and this site seems to be getting worse. Model Mayhem has become a society of so called photographers who are more like perverts, porn recruiters and worse, the so called models are strippers and call girls. But in saying that not all of the photographers and models on Model Mayhem are in that category so then we have the Moderators/gatekeepers to rectify this. The moderator's task is simply to " keep the BAD in and to keep the GOOD out ". MUAs could be excluded as they offer their services for free as part of the Mua's training. What are the alternatives to model Mayhem? Or similar websites that are more appealing. The StarNow website is much more professional and Facebook photography / Model groups are much more viable.

The mods on Modelmayhem are extremely unprofessional and biased. After adding a photo (which I didn't know was prohibited), my photo was removed. Fair enough, however, I received 6 (yes 6!) consecutive, different messages from moderators on Modelmayhem telling me that its prohibited (re ONE photo) which I felt was really unnecessary and aggressive and I informed them to please not message me again re that issue... I then took great care in editing the photo so that it would meet their standards. However, a few hours after I had added the photo, it was again removed within a few hours! (the reasons they stated was not true as I clearly edited everything out of the photo that they stated was prohibited in the first place!). It was a blatantly unfair move on their part. I can find no other reason for why my photo was deleted than reasons that must be biased - is it run by inflated ego driven teenagers who decide within a split second whether they like your photo (or perhaps you) or not? Then again if these people were so important they would be out in the industry - not hiding behind a computer running a wannabe site. Needless to say I won't use that site again. Total waste of time

Tip for consumers:
Do not use this site as the moderators are highly unprofessional and biased.

I applied with two profiles since I do both modeling and photography work. I have fashion show experience and because of this I was very surprised to find out that both applications were rejected.

In the first application as a model I don't understand the decision at all. Because if this site is not for professional models, than who is it for? Strippers? Hookers? People who they would like to date? And for the second profile they simply assumed that my photos must have been someone else's because they don't expect high quality photos. Either that or the only other option is heavy sexism. Because most photographers on the site are in fact men. I won't deal with them again. Overall it makes no sense for them to exclude real professionals unless there is something seriously going wrong or something shady with this website.

The help section claims that you can try again in application but that is untrue since they closed my page and write proudly that they don't "let you" delete your account and your data. Which by the way, as a european, is my right. So I am not giving in easily over some website online that pretends as if they could change national or international law by writing their own little rules on the website.

Stay away! Highly unprofessional.

I guess I got lucky on the site till now. I reported a photographer for stealing photos after agreeing to doing TFP (time for portfolio. Essentially a trade, time and receiving the work you had done with the photographer. Keep in mind you have to trust this person once walking away from a photoshoot) the moderator of the site removed my experience I shared letting future models know what they can potentially experience, if choosing to work with this photographer. It was their priority to maintain the sites appeal over protecting users on their website. Untrustworthy to say the least to condone and defend this behavior with a user on their site by not letting me share my experience and give me warnings for sharing. Aside from that I did X rated personal photos for him as well and never saw a single photo clothed or not. (this was not my reason for writing this review. I chose to take additional photos cause I blindly trusted this person for marking himself as a professional) I will never trust or use this site again. I don't know who else they are allowing to use their site if this is what I'm seeing with my own eyes. They have been replaced with Instagram and other open, more safe medias anyways. I recommend using any site over this one. Dave Viet Photography located in San Diego was responsible for not returning my photos after strictly agreeing upon TFP. Stay safe models & photographers!

Tip for consumers:
Honestly, it would be safer to work with people you know or any site that doesn't moderate their feedback service so you know its trustworthy

Used Model Mayhems "safe" photographer service. He stole the product we created for himself

I agreed with a lot of reviewer on here, this whole site has been going downhill since 2011, they advertised there are more then 900,000 active users, which is a total blatant lie.The get a lot of girls who have no experience in any type of modeling ( I don't know if they are fake) to start a profile, but those profile would be active for a week, and they won't reply to your shoot request. Back when 2009-2011, there were a lot of active local groups, where you can choose to participate and networking, but all those groups are gone, Now there are a lot of A-hole admin who kept locking up the whole threads in forum, if you ever mention anything remotely related to religion and politics. These admin (unpaid?) are like communist police, they are the judge and executioner. They tell you they don't promote porn, but then a lot of female profiles said they shoot with Playboy and Penthouse, those are not porn mags? Their rules are so vague and ambiguous it's the worst paid memberships site I ever join in my entire internet life!

This site is strictly exploitin women. If submit a profile with clothed photos, it takes weeks to get approved. If you submit a profile with nude pitures, you are approved within twelve hours.

You will not get paid gigs through this site.
You will recieve harrassment, and abuse from which the moderators do nothing about. If you cannot prove a picture you took was yours, they automatically delete with out explination nor notification. However, despite their guidlines, if you load pronographic photos. Like a girl having oral sex with a man. The photo and profile stays up. You can flag it but it stays on the site.

They are by no means professional, and more of a site for horny guys to ogle and female models, then put their favorites on special lists from which to do who knows what... ok you know what.

We needed extra models for a few jobs in the USA and we are an International talent agency and we got banned for offering people paid work, yet I know of dodgy photographer we wouldn't touch with a ten foot barge pool picking up free models through them, so I haven't really worked out what they are actually about but I do know they are not an agency, they are not there to help promote talent to the right people or places so why spend any money or time on it

I submitted the correct size and quality of pictures, bio and other necessary information needed. About three days after I was approved and paid the $10 monthly subscription, they removed all my pictures claiming they didn't think they were mine. I was livid because not only were the pictures taken by me, I also own the rights. For these degenerates to make an assumption and remove my photos and to take my money makes me question the integrity of this online business.
Although emailed them asking why they thought the pictures weren't mine, they never bothered to respond.
My conclusion is that they are just wanting to get a high number of subscribers on their site and so on so they can manipulate their taxes to the IRS.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE PEOPLE.

I had been a member for over TEN years, with over a thousand friends on my page. But when I asked a model if she would be interested in "explicit" work, my account was shut down. When I asked why, they said that the word "explicit" meant "adult networking", which is supposedly against their rules. I replied that I didn't even know what "adult networking" is, and also explained that they advertise an "erotic" category on their site. Their entire reply was "asking about explicit work goes well beyond erotic", as if there's an established comparison between the words erotic and explicit. They then had me show them what 'explicit' photos were, playing dumb with me that their site contains thousands of explicit photos, perhaps to wear me down. Then I explained that NOTHING was done by these obsessive word maniacs when I complained about my friend being told her work there is "jerkoff material", nor when I was sexually assaulted by a HIV positive member of their site. Not important they said, since I used the word "explicit" instead of "erotic", my account needs to be terminated. These people are beyond f'ed up.

From everything I can see, the principal activity of the administrators of this site is not promoting modeling or photography, it's finding pretexts to remove users.

There has been a lot of unhappiness about the site's use of vague rules on image content. Users are made to guess what images are acceptable; if they get it wrong, they are permanently removed. The administrators never communicate with the user before doing this.

I joined recently, in part to see if things were as bad as suggested by some of the other reviews of MM on this site. It's actually worse.

I didn't post any images that could have violated any rules, and none of my images were removed. What I did was to post a comment in a thread ("Confused by 18+ Image Rejection") in the "Site Related Forum".

I argued MM should either have clear rules or stop removing people for "violating" rules written so vaguely that people have to guess as to their meaning. The post was written using respectful, diplomatic language.

I knew I was taking a risk by speaking. Three other users who had posted critical comments in this thread had mysteriously disappeared. Sure enough, within 24 hours of posting, I got the email of death informing I was removed from the site. At least I had not paid them any money.

These people have as much respect for their user community as Saddam Hussein or Bashar Al Assad, The site really needs to be taken down.
