I live in Florida in a 75 year old home that was built before A/C was commonplace. Split mini units, which are very prevalent around the world are the easiest and most efficient fix for this situation. I have six units all were Turboair which have been in place for 14 years and trouble free. Last year a gecko decided to stay warm and shorted out my motherboard which couldn't be replaced due to the units age, so I bought a Mr. Cool DIY. That has turned out to be a terrible decision. 2 months out of its 4 year warranty, the unit gave me an error code and shut down in the hottest month of the year. Contacted customer service and after several back and forths they told me to replace the control board... which was out of warranty. I bought the new board $200, installed it, ran the unit and it defaulted again. So now 1200$ for the MrCool, 200$ for the board and still no A/C.
My opinion of these Chinese units is that they are basically poorly manufactured and inferior to other major suppliers. I would never purchase another from them and recommend you avoid them if you want a reliable split mini.
