“I've found a wealth of information on this site”

Nate M.
6/9/11

I've found a wealth of information on this site. Just read the product descriptions before you order - they have options to buy a single report for $1.95, or start a monthly membership and get the report for $. 95. It's all clearly marked, just make sure you read everything first. You can do people searches, get background checks and similar reports.

“Unauthorized debt in my bank account”

Fatima K.
10/24/24

I used PeopleFinders just once, I mean, an one time purchase $1.45 to obtain a phone number. A couple days later, they took $24.95 from my account, I believe for a service subscription which I have never requested. I replaced my bank card immediately and now I am waiting for my bank dispute process. So frustrating.

This is a rip-off. I opened an account and I was charged $19.95 after I've learned that if I close the account in less than three days I'll be charged only $2.95, cancellation fees. I closed the account in about one hour after I opened it and I was not reimbursed for $19.95 as it was specified on the website. A few days letter I was charged again $2.95 for cancellation fees. I've sent a few e-mails and I've called the Customer Service Team… Guess what? They won't reimburse me the money; they said that is the price for accessing a report! For less than $10.00 one can use another website for a month.

This website states that "There are many reasons to conduct a people search. Many people need to obtain or verify a current address or phone number." and "Whatever your reason, PeopleFinders can help you find people, lookup phone numbers, and to learn more about an individual's background with criminal records, bankruptcies, foreclosures, court records, and more." Their data base is NOT current a demonstrated when I looked up a friend's new address she had been at for a month. I paid them approx $10.75 because I saw the words 'current address' and was taken in. Their 'customer service' refused a refund even though I pointed exactly the same thing out. Unfortunately the BBB didn't help me either? So AVOID these leeches like the plague!

Signed up for a free trial of people finder in June and canceled in July. I got a confirmation email confirming my cancellation, but my card was still being charged. I called again the customer service rep asked can I call back later because she is having technical difficulties. So I did…. I'm thinking it's done and completed then I notice a charge 2 months later. I emailed again. Still was not cancelled. I call again and the rep tells me I canceled one free trial but not the other. This company is a fraud and rip off…. Don't do the free trial!

I thought I had found a surrogate phone book to provide the easy number of a a local for like a buck, ninety five. Instead, of course, in the deceptively obscured side print, they have noted a charge instead of $24.95 if I don't cancel within 24r hours; and, once again, of course, no refund policy. Isn't the world lovely?

I noticed a billing for PFREWARDS in the amount of $24.99 on my credit card in addition to peoplefinders.com for $24.95. This had been going on for a few months. It was clearly deceptive because the billings were always 4 days apart using 2 different company names so the consumer doesn't always notice. The rep & supervisor told me that I signed up for both because I clicked a box during my registration agreeing to an extra payment. I certainly wouldn't choose to be double billed! They both had the too bad so sad attitude that was so irritating and they refused to refund the double billing!

Paid the. 95 and I honestly don't know how it even got started Last I remember I was not on my phone but I was putting it down and I seen my screen on this ppl finder and my husband's cell number was even in the search bat? So my of course I just went with it. Used cashapp and nothing happened. No report now cashapp notifications came up n seen the 24.95 charge attempt. But thank God I'm broke n I forgot. LoL jokes on them They need to bust these scammers. Beginning to wonder who's actually at fault. It's cyber world now and I don't think anything is private or safe anymore these days if they're scammers. Haha ain't taking money I don't got

Tip for consumers:
How exactly can you honestly determine if the sites safe and legit from a fake one.

Interesting how they scam you here, they ask you to try them which requires you give them a payment method for which you will not be charged for the first use... funny if you do no specify that you want it cancelled after the first use they will continue to bill your account regardless if you use them or not and they never tell you that they are billing you... then if you ask what the charges represent they say it's for your membership? By the way regardless of how many months they have been billed you they will only credit you for 4-months even if you can prove you never asked for or used their service

I recently clicked on this website because I'm getting a lot of unrecognized numbers. When I entered the number, I find out that it is not free, I would have to pay a dollar to find out who's calling and if it is a legitimate company. This is not free! I would rate this a Zero if I could. There should be 0-5 stars.

I signed up for a single search. I selected a single search and hit continue. A my quarterly credit card statement, I found $150 in charges.
I contacted the company and explained the situation. I asked them to send me a screen shot of me clicking on a subscription and they sent one (my name was John Doe) and the non-subscription button was below the screen cutoff! So you don't see it when you order!
They sent no invoice, only a password confirmation.
They charged me $0.48 and then $150.
I contacted them for a refund, provided details, contacted Better Business Bureau. Nothing.
They are frauds, plain and simple.
If you are a lawyer and looking for a class action lawsuit, this one is ripe for you.

First of all the site has very limited information. They cannot get information in many states. Also they have a scam going where it is hidden in the small print where not only are you paying $34.95 for nothing because they really don't give you much information they will bill your credit card for $24.95 for a membership if you don't cancel within 3 days. American Express was aware of the scam but said there wasn't anything they could do about the $24.95 and they have people complain all the time. I called the company and they said too bad so sad you need to read the small print. When you call there 800 number the first thing it tells you is if you want to cancel send an email. Just trying to warn everyone this site is a ripoff.

This is another dishonest company whose primary mission is scamming people by repeated charges to their credit card. These criminals should be put out of business and convicted of fraud. The technique has become widespread. They put the customer in the position of having to register a negative option to stop charges they never authorized in the first place. They provide NO email, or snail mail, notification, but instead just charge your credit card. I paid out over $120.00 before I noticed the charge oin my credit card statement. I plan to report these fraudsters to the CA Attorney General, and you should too..

Don't even try their trial search and give them your credit card number. I thought I was paying for only the service of some 50 cents per search. I tried it twice. They without further notice entered me into subscription and charging me without the courtesy of notifing me about it. Since I used a credit card that I rarely use for other purchasing, I did not look into the statement detail for almost a year and found being charged for all this period for a total of almost $300, $24.90 a month! They say I did not read the agreement but who knows. I thought I read and pretty sure about that I was being charged for the two triials only which should be about $1. I think it is a sneaky company. I will try to get refund if possible thru credit card bank. Never give them the credit card number and if you do stay on top ot it.

I called PeopleFinders as I paid for what I believed to be a one time charge for a back ground check. I continuously get charged even though I have canceled. He asked me, "What is wrong with you for allowing his charged to continue". I let him know that I have attempted to cancel. He told me he would cancel my membership, but couldn't help me any prior charges. That was just the way it was...company policy. I have never been treated with such disrespect. :/

I signed up for one search. They tried, over and over, to get me to sign on for more for more money. After they finally gave up and gave me the results, the results were grossly inaccurate. This was a huge waste of my time and money. Don't use this service unless you want to throw your money away!

I clicked on the name I knew in fact was the person I needed information on. I proceed to pay and when it was time to give me the report I received every other James than the one I clicked on. When I put the name in again they wanted me to pay an additional $24.95. This site is a scam!

There are 2 options when using peoplefinders.com The first option is a one time use option for a charge of. 95. The second is a monthly subscription option, which is 24.95. What the do not clearly state is that if you do not cancel within 3 days, you are automatically transferred to the non-refundable monthly subscription option and charged 24.95 per month until you realize they are charging you and cancel it

I had someone contact me from an unknown number and I wanted to make sure I was aware of who it was. So I did sign up for the trial and I do understand that the wording is there that says if you don't cancel you'll be charged X amount.

That in itself is a money trap. Of course I was just hours late of canceling and while looking for a way to cancel the membership it advertised to me to look at my own background check. I clicked on that and didn't realize I'd be charged $30 for just looking! I didn't even get a report.

Why would I not own my own information anyway! It's MY background check you don't think I should have the power to remove that? I called to remove my service and cancel my account and I nicely requested a reimbursement which was promptly denied.
My advice, just don't even use the service. It's an absolute money trap and not worth a single penny.

After a trail offer to check myself out knowing I had a background there site said there was nothing. So I called to get a refund which they gave me pennies on the dollar on what I paid they turned around and charged me again and again. When I called them to confront them I was told that my account had been closed so there is nothing that they could do. I told them that they are a fraud and any more charges I would file a police report. She then transferred me to a supervisor who was just a voicemail. Again don't use this site bad information and they will keep charging your account!

Paid peoplefinders.com $9.95 to locate information on the name of High School classmate and an additional $24.95 for updated information as the 3 former addresses were no longer accurate. The 2 phone numbers provided were either discontinued on 1st one and the 2nd phone number provided belonged to the current resident at this number for over 7 years.

This company is a scam to bill your credit card for very out of date information and they do not update the addresses or phone numbers they charge you for the information you are trying to acquire to contact the name being provided to peoplefinders. Dont waste you time.

Tip for consumers:
This is the outdated information I received from Peoplefinders.com
A charge of $0.95 has been billed to your credit card and will show up as "PeopleFinders.com" on your credit card statement. $0.48
3 Day PeopleFinders Membership TrialCancel anytime. After your 3-day free trial, you will be billed $24.95 per month. $0.47

I tried People Finders to get the phone number for my brother, so that I could get ahold of him. The phone number they had listed for him was from 11 years ago! They did not have current information for him. When I called to ask for a refund because their info was so out-dated that it was not helpful at all, they told me that they would not refund any of my money. Biggest waste of $24.95 ever!

Very misleading site. I entered a phone number and the site initially responded that it had the name of the phone number. I entered my credit card info - and the message appeared that I had to pay $. 99 to have the report emailed to me. I went through all this and downloaded the report.

Nothing. I called their customer support number and a very cheeky fellow just said, "You were not billed, maam." Over and over.

Stay away and don't enter your credit card info into this site.

Deceptive marketing and poor customer service.

So you want to find out who owns that phone number? You WON'T find it with this company, and it will cost you for it to tell you that (even when it says it won't)! This scam site will force you to 1st pay $24.95 to do the initial search... then, whatever bogus info it comes up with won't give you the name of the person (only a city) - to get the name of the owner of the number, you have to pay another $4.95. It says that if they can't find the name, you won't be charged... sure enough, no name was found and told me that I wasn't going to be charged, but oh yes I was - right there on my credit card bill (which I then noticed that they'd been charging me $24.95 for the past 4 months on an automatic payment plan). I've been ripped off over $110 by this site. I HATE THIS COMPANY!

People Finders is a scam. They charge you $19.95 on a credit card for outdated and inaccurate information. They are now being investigated by the Federal Government. TIPS FOR REIMBURSEMENT: Call your credit card and tell them what occurred. They will then credit your account for the fee and People Finders will receive a chargeback, which they won't be happy about. This will eventually put them out of business. Don't waste your time calling them and asking to talk with a supervisor, they don't have any management available at any time. They probably don't have any supervisors to speak of. This company is a FRAUD. If enough dissatisfied people take the time (a couple of minutes) to call their credit card company, the company won't be able to survive. I'm posting this because I went through the experience and I hope to assist anyone else whose even thinking about paying this company. They don't even deserve one star.
