Being at home with my poetry books makes me swoon constantly. I've been reading poetry again nightly (e. E. cummings, charles bukowski, emily $#*!inson, jack gilbert, leonard cohen, etc.) and when i hit on something lovely that i want to share with someone else, i use poemhunter to find the poem in copy and paste form. Most of the time it's fine, but once in a while, you hit the search button and get a spammy pop-up telling you've just won an ipad. Leave me to read langston hughes in peace, man! Poetry is one of those things i'm not sure i could do in kindle form just yet, and on the computer it's even worse. However, i might read more poetry online if sites like poemhunter were a little more aesthetically pleasing and less sneaky-spammy.
I had some of my poems deactivated by the site without warning. My poems were fairly banal and contained no offensive language. I asked why they were deactivated to understand what was happening and received a generic reply we will contact you in a few days type of thing but no one ever did. I tried to get through four times but no one ever got back to me. Fortunately, I had copies of my work otherwise I could have lost it completely.

Having an account, and publishing a poem, it just stayed stuck on pending for a whole week. Contacting the web provider, they reply with a generic message, we will get back to you, but never do. Don"t bother with it.
Horrible poetry any guy, person, dog can post and then not so knowledgeable reviewers who think it is actually good poetry. The real poet's on the site though, that is informative and they are of course awesome if the readers reading get it.
Tip for consumers:
If you want to read the work of real poet's go to a book store or look up on Amazon Kindle or Paper Back.
Administration of this site is appalling. I have been seriously defamed on there and my address has been given publicly on there. I have had threats to come to my home based on totally false information manufactured by one member due to his history with someone who is my friend, and my complaints to Poemhunter have gone unreplied. This Site is a trolls paradise behind a veneer of fake friendliness and my unfortunate experience is having a very detrimental effect on my health and life. Since the administrators are unable or unwilling to implement their own site rules, and so ignorant that they do not reply when serious incidents are pointed out, it should be shut down immediately.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use this site.
This is a highly unreliable website for those seeking an accurate rendering of many poems. There is at least one alleged author on this site who is a proven plagiarist, yet the owners of Poemhunter.com do nothing about this matter. They have been contacted on several occasions, but have yet to do anything about this problem.
As an educator, I am appalled at the blatant disregard for both accuracy and honesty in the handling of the works of great as well as unknown authors of poetry. It is with a keen mind and a solid resolve that I display to the world - do not frequent this site, for there is naught but fraudulence and deceit present!

The site is really a fantastic site for poetry. At least, everything in it is for free and you have to pay nothing to share as many as you want from your poems.
As a poetry resource this site is pretty good, and it is free. The downside is that it is flooded with advertising, which seriously impairs use of the site. People who seriously want to read, post and exchange poetry comments are left frustrated.
On the downside, the trolling, doxing and abuse on there are woven into the fabric of the site, and the administrators do nothing to prevent it. During and following an extended period of trolling, posting of my private details, and threats I received no support whatsoever from admin, until I threatened them with legal action, began contacting their advertisers to inform them of the bullying and trolling with which they were associating themselves, and flooded them with complaints. After this they slowly and reluctantly began to react, but gave the impression they thought that I was the problem rather than the small group of perpetrators.
If they cannot monitor and administer the site effectively and as if they care about their members they should close the website down. Given the state of it and the rate at which people are abandoning it I feel it may close eventually anyway.
I once search for a poem by Robert Frost and this website showed up. I was happy to find tens of poems by him there. I almost read all of them :)
I am Ravi Panamanna who has been regularly posting poems at this site since January 2009. So far, I have 251 poems to my credit at this site and I find that this contains a vast database of poets and their poems. Not only that, people are really searching for quality poems at this site to do certain projects and for other studies. I have found that one of my poems was chosen to do a visual project by a group of visual media students of UK. Such things are great from my point of view. So, this site is really watched. Moreover, Google and Yahoo search engines display various links of regular poets and their poems of this site, which is a great thing. Everything is transparent and free as far as I am concerned and I had never felt any hitch over these years. I am only happy to say that this site has really given me a facelift as a poet and what more can a poet aspire for? This site has given a lot of poets as my friends. So far, I have not received any bad comments from anybody for any of my poems. I can easily recommend this site for anybody.
As for the advertisements, I find that all of them contain enough information and these ads never interfere the poem or the comments. That way, the ads only add a wealth to the poet's page. Not only that, according to the general interests and the place of the poet, the system seems to pick up similar ads in his poetry pages. Random ads are also available.
Video poems are the highlights of Poemhunter. Almost all poems are instantly taken to video presentation by the system. That is something great.
Poet grading from 1 to 6 is another highlight. This actually enhances the popularity and worthiness of a poet.
I used to use many sites to read poems. But poem hunter was the better than others I think.
I cannot say that I have difficulties with it.
I've been on the internet pretty much since its inception. Been publishing poetry since 1983. I've been on numerous poetry sites but Poem Hunter struck me as very strange.
I set up my account and profile, which were free. I uploaded a photo and posted a first poem. After over five hours the poem was still "pending" and because it wasn't visible to anyone I didn't expect a rating til it was. I'm always loathe to permit anything other than reviews. Rating systems can be abused. I saw other poets receiving five stars and I KNOW through vast experience that every poem I post is worthy of posting. Many have been previously published and NOT in cottage of vanity publishing. I recently came back onto the Poem Hunter site and saw my poem still "pending" yet SOMEONE or some folks had already put my rating to 2.33. Now, that's just venomous because my poem hadn't actually been SEEN by anyone. I'd been shafted in ratings simply on how I LOOK or because well, I have no idea why nor do I wish know or participate on a site that allows such behaviour!
Hardly an atmosphere for creativity...hardly a welcome... hardly human. So, I went to try and fix the problem via adjustment of profile so I didn't receive sub human idiotic ratings simply because those giving them are online nut jobs who enjoy knocking people down... but...there is no further facility for me to do the update for rating score. So I deleted my account. Ive won numerous awards in poetry...had many published in several regions of the the world and every State in my Country. I deleted my account and advise anyone not to patronize the site as members, especially novices...such obviously and immediately appalling onsite behaviour would tend to crush the confidence of newbies and up and comers. These sorts of sites have declined since day one. Poem Hunter is good for reference and reading but I would NEVER recommend anyone take up membership on a site that knocks an artist down before he or she has even posted a single piece. The time delay alone in a state of "pending" is disheartening. Add the cruel ratings from artless, sub human dropkicks who haven't even SEEN my works...and I was out of there in an instant.
It would be nice if they had even a modicum of respect for copyright. Horrible site.
