I used to think this was a five. And it was. It was very much a five.
But then there were the ads.
And further, there was the reposting of the same sites over and over, as if they were new.
YouTube links used to go to YouTube. Now they go to embedded videos ensconced in advertising.
So the moral of the story is:
The moment you start making a website for profit, that website loses its soul.
Or something like that.
No other website shows me the value of the internet more than this one.
The internet is full of tiny pieces of individual and group creativity, for no reason other than to create and communicate. They aren't looking to earn retweets, upvotes or likes, jut to exist as the output of a thinking mind amongst all of human culture.
I have visited this site every day since 2007 and would consider the homogenous reposting nightmare blobs of twitter, reddit, facebook etc to have won if it ever went away.
The last bastion of unmotivated humanity in a scarred hellscape of social media and ads.
