Psychology Today has a rating of 1.6 stars from 70 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Psychology Today most frequently mention mental health problems. Psychology Today ranks 46th among Therapist sites.
I needed help for anger issues and anxiety, and turned to the Psychology Today site. I've heard that it sometimes takes a few tries to find the right therapist, but I was lucky, and found Lynn Crawford right away. Her gentle, accepting manner put me right at ease, and working with her showed me how to free myself from the cycle of negative and destructive thoughts. I am learning how to understand and accept my emotions, and feel at peace more than I ever have before. If you are anxious, angry or stressed and don't know what to do about it, do yourself a favour and pick up the phone. You'll be glad you did.
As I tried to navigate the therapist in my area and either call or email- out of 50+ I got 2 responses, first one insurance didn't pay her enough and second is still in limbo- discussed with this process as someone trying to get better inside and out!
Mental health is still misunderstood. Having a magazine like Psychology Today does more harm then good. They don't go in depth and look at the complexities of human emotions/feelings, not do they have significant insight into psychological disorders. When you read PT take it with a grain of salt. If your interested in the topic go online and look it up on Wiki and peer reviewed studies or other trusted sites.
I went to a therapist listed from Psychology Today.I had gone for cptsd symptoms, only to realize after a few months, this man was trying to groom me. When I confronted him, he admitted it.Please be careful.
I emailed Elizabeth Marie Detweiler and Dana R. Summerfield from NC and told both of them I was looking for help. Neither one called me back. I don't comprehend how when you tell a mental health care provider you need help and they don't respond. No, I don't take your insurance, I'm not taking new clients, I have a long wait time. NOTHING! WOW! Shame on both of them. I wish I could give a negative star. I had to settle for one star.
The ones contributing with articles are giving based on their knowledge and opinions rather than proper research. The ones reviewing the articles by these contributors are even less qualified. It's like the blind leading the blind. The topics covered are usually just for highlights rather than helpful. The latest article on male psychology based on the Barbie film is just absurd. I mean seriously writing professional based on fictional characters?

I had a therapy session with a so-called psychotherapist. She was judgemental, insensitive, unprofessional, and extremely rude. As long as the money was involved for her, the rest of me and my mental illness could go to hell for her.
Psychology Today is providing a service for therapist listing. For context I am dissatisfied with a therapist from the listings. This in itself is only a part of the issue, as well Psychology Today does not have an easy to use rating system that would allow others to share comments about any therapist. This is important as how else can a person that is in distress be able to choose a therapist.
I would love to share a review about the specific therapist so as to protect others from the same, but there is no mechanism in Psychology Today, for that. As a result I would recommend that no one should select a therapist from psychology today as you can not know what your getting. The endorsements are simply from others in the business, not from common clients. Endorsing each other is not any assurance for an upset person seeking help.
Psychology Today is enabling abuse of our most vulnerable people, those in need of mental help.
I am a certified coach. I was told that Psychology Today allows coaches on their platform, but they are refusing to accept my credentials even though I am an ordained minister, certified mental health coach, and certified professional life coach. After contacting customer service, they approved my account then the next day they deactivated it saying I do not qualify to be on their platform.
If you are looking for a mental health professional don't use this site. The professionals here falsely advertised their serves and if you get one they are the worst mental health professionals you will ever deal with. I suggest you find one that your insurance have not waste your time using this site.
Apparently the only requirement to be endorsed by Psychology Today is to pay the fee. They feature therapists who do not return calls and those with misleading profiles (stating insurance is in network when it isnt, advertising to have offices in locations where there arent any, offering in person sessions when its remote...etc). Stop.wasting the time of vulnerable people who are seeking help, and get back to work like the rest of the world.
Do not use this very expensive site for LMHC exam (NCMHE) Preparation. They have resourced out their exam simulation to Casepro and it is awful. The exam is formatted to provide additional information for correct answers which you base the next set of questions upon. Their simulation does not offer this information. They only provide weirdly listed single digit columns of numbers as results which are impossible to interpret beyond pass/fail. It does not offer the user any way to learn from errors and is constantly changing formats. The customer service cannot answer basic issues and report "they are in process of upgrading" and get similar complaints frequently. Go with a company that does fewer exams and specializes in the field.

At first, you think that's a decent website and you can truly find someone to start therapy with. I found a guy named *, who mentioned that he was experienced in a particular field and that's the reason I contacted him. Once we had our first session, I realized that he didn't have a clue why I approached him on psychologytoday.com and he had no experience as mentioned! The next day he changed his experience field on psychologytoday.com where he removed some skills from his profile. They play with souls there, do not trust this site!

As others have said most therapists on there don't call back even when the site says they're accepting new patients. Also, there's no way to filter out therapists who aren't accepting new patients so it's basically a huge waste of time. Like others said it's very unprofessional for therapists not to respond at all to requests for therapy and there's no way to leave a review for the therapists on their site which makes no sense.
I just want whomever that goes to this women "Melissa Omand" for trauma counseling to please look her up! She abused my two children for 10 years and was convicted in Vermont. Please google her! I did advise phycology today and they ignored me.!

I keep calling and asking for an appointment. Everyone keeps saying they cannot put me through to anyone, and to call back. When I call back, the process repeats. No one calls me back. No one talks to me. Is this place even a real therapist connection site, or is it fake? Feels fake...
Tip for consumers:
Dont. Bother. God knows they dont bother, so why should you?

Found * in Psychology Today. Worst therapist in my community, in my opinion. He lied about me. He flirted with me. He wouldn't try modality I wanted to try unless I paid more money. And he can't handle a crisis. When I was having a crisis a few months ago * abandoned me without referral or closure. If you want to work with what I found to be an incompetent therapist who will likely cause you harm, * is you guy. Otherwise, please keep looking.

I know Dr. Pekker long time.
When I met her I was in really bad shape.
She is helping me to deal with my every day problems, my personality.
How to communicate with people and what to do next in my life.
It is very helpful and encouraging.
Deal with my family, work, personal problems, my childhood.
She really understands me and can give me great advice, making me think from different points of view.
After every session I feel better and can do my homework.
I really recommend Dr. Pekker to people who need help. Make a first step to your healthy life.
Thank you Doctor for everything.

I was searching for while to find the perfect therapist for my kids who was passionate and a specialist at what they do. MSB Counseling Services Inc. has been a true BLESSING! The dedication, resources, and just compassion she has is just incredible. It is very hard to find a professional in any field who is actually passionate about what they do and always want to do the right thing no matter what. I recommend MSB Counseling Services Inc and rate it 10 out of 10. My family had found a new friend.
I have used this site multiple times over the last year. 95% of contact is not responded to.
The three therapists I had access to.the other 95% didn't ever respond
1) could only take me remotely at 8 am ….no thanks
2) was extremely chippy less than halfway through 15 phone session.no thanks…
3) Seemed very promising…I was excited
Third visit I was told….that's the way it is now, get used to it.
Another time…just ignore it.
No tools…no methods
I looked up things on my own
Last straw was being spoken to in a raised voice…while she banged her hand on the table. I canceled all appts going forward.
What happened to "NO JUDGEMENT.SAFE PLACE.BE HONEST"
I thought I was finally going to get the guidance I sought.
Extememly disappointed and discouraged.
Day after day on PsychologyToday.com, there is a never-ending parade of anti-White racists and man-hating feminists. Only rarely is the fact that men account for 80% of suicides mentioned, and the fact that White men account for 75% of suicides is never mentioned. In my view, that publication is entirely at odds with the realities of mental health.
I thought seeing the primary nameEaster Seals when seeking a therapist would make this choice easier to get my 18 year old daughter assistant. HECK NO! My daughter after 3 weeks has had to go for emergency psychiatric treatment then in-house and I can't get no answers from Lauren Rainey, Warren, Mi. I now realize these folks are quacks and when I get my daughter back to herself, I will try and take legal action!
The problem with this site is that it doesn't allow individual reviews. Counselors are able to post glowing profiles of themselves without the ability for patients to review. I see Yessica Chanza Ocampo's profile is all over this site but in reality she shouldn't be treating patients due to her own mental health issues.
I am appalled at the garbage they are allowed to put out on this. They post a lot of information that goes directly against the constitution and individuals rights.
No Screening done on these Psych today therapists. Experienced 4 for family that shouldn't be in the field
Therapist on there never answer emails and their phone numbers just ring and disconnect. This company should have a way to remove therapist that have false info on website.
Waste of time.
Don't take it seriously. It's not even kind of accurate unless you're looking up BASIC material you could find via Google Search and Wikipedia. Honestly, Wikipedia is a better source.
