Ravelry has been my go to for crochet patterns for the last 7 years. They have taken a stance on something important to them. I think it's important to take a stance when things get out of hand. Thank you ravelry
I've loved having access to Ravelry's database of patterns, projects, and communities for over ten years. The wealth of information available on the site is staggering. So thrilled to have such a comprehensive resource available.
Don't let the trumpster fires persuade you that this site is bad. They're awesome. They're trying to make their corner of the internet free of racism.
I love Ravelry.com! It's an amazing trove of patterns and knowledge. The community is amazing, helpful, and kind. It's my #1 go to when I want to start a project.
I've never gotten into the politics while crocheting but your new policy calls me a white supremacist. You say this only because I support the commander in chief of our great country. People like you are dividing this country even more. Only support for President Trump is banned the negative ****trump hat pattern along with others are still there. Your inclusion policy is only inclusive to those that think the way you do. How is that inclusive? I can find patterns on plenty of other sites and not be called names.
You ruined your site with politics and division crafting is a relaxing hobby yet you've made it into a screaming drama. Shame on you
I no longer need this site. Allowing $#*! hats but excluding maga hats seriously wrong. Iam a Trump supporter
I love Ravelry. I can spend hours upon hours browsing knitting patterns, yarn, and ideas. I can find free patterns, buy intricate and detailed patterns from fabulous designers, and chat with people who can help to make me a better knitter. It's a real community.
I was a member almost from the beginning and interacted often with other members around the world. When they started picking and choosing what was allowed and distinguishing between races, I chose not to be part of it. I have never questioned the race of who I was interacting with, be it white, black, Asian, etc., but when I was labeled a white supremacist because I support the president of the United States, I had had enough.
Ravelry categorizes people... and I am one that is amazingly weird. And love it by the way. My real last name is Pena, hispanic as it sounds but my dad will tell you that is only your heritage you are AMERICAN. I am blond haired blue eyed and look Scandinavian, but I am AMERICAN. On my mothers side I have a Jewish grandmother, a Choctaw great great grandfather, but I am AMERICAN... and her family were share croppers, literally picking cotton in the fields with POC... but they worked side by side, and THEY WERE ALL AMERICAN. Last year after several in the family decided to do the genetic testing we also have 9% Nigerian DNA... But we are American. Ravelry has classified me as a white supremists...
I am AMERICAN. This is a bigoted site and by their own words have done what is unconscionable and marginalized AMERICANS just because THEY deemed it so.
Bigoted, racists, misogyny are the practiced norms and I refuse to be on any list or denigrated in any way for who I am. They are their own worse enemies... doing exactly what they accuse others of doing. Yarn... go to Hobby Lobby... pattern literally can find anything they have on another site with a little research... patterns too. Peace of mind, acceptance, pride in self and country... ALL CAN BE FOUND SOMEWHERE ELSE,
Do your homework or be as resists as they are and join their club of mean bullies.
Ravelry is the perfect social media site for knitters/crocheters/yarncrafters. I've been a member since the site launched in beta in 2007. I've made a lot of good friends, found incredible patterns, researched yarn and techniques. It's helpful as a resource and a fun place to participate. There are always improvements and developments being made to the site, and in the rare occurrence of a bug, it is taken care of swiftly. Easy links to other platforms make sharing fast and easy. Here's an example: if you link your IG account, post a photo with #ravelry on IG, you'll get a message in your ravelry inbox asking if you'd like to import this photo to one of your project pages!
There has been some recent controversy regarding the owners' choice to make this a safe space from hate speech and racism. Unfortunately, there have been members who are hateful and cling to that hate to the point that they feel the need to lash out and harass others both on the site and off. They continue to prove what led up to this and why taking this measure was necessary. They will tell you that this is about politics, but it is not. They'll have you caught up in the paradox of tolerance, try to convince you that their beliefs are sacred, while, unlike a person's race/ethnicity/sexuality/gender, their beliefs are a choice, and a terrible one for humanity.
If you're a knitter/crocheter/etc and haven't heard of ravelry, check it out-- it's a happy, yarny, creative, and fun space.
Because of discrimination, I no longer chose to use this site. The leadership chose to divide a community that once got along about all things fiber arts. Not any more. Call me what you will but I do not hate no matter who I vote for. I do not accept intolerance in my life and respect views of all, even if I don't agree with them. The leadership at this site do not accept all.
The leadership is running a leftist agenda instead of promoting fiber interest. They appear to have waited until they seem to have a monopoly on their market and are making a political statement.
If you are at all conservative or value freedom of speech it's not a site for you. Definitely left biased.
A site that claims to be "inclusive"; But bans anything or anyone pro-Trump. They went nuts over a knitted Trump 2020 hat but allows F^# Trump items. How about if you don't like it scroll on by like we did with the Pu$$~ hats?
Was with them since the beginning, but no more. Liberal idiots who call all Trump supporters White Supremacist. Hows that for flushing your business down the drain? Why is a mAGA hat pattern Hate Speech and it's ok for a F**K Trump hat pattern?
I know that I am just one person, but I would like to state my resistance. When the word inclusive is used, that means all, no one is excluded for any reason. When someone is told that they are welcome but because their viewpoints are not the same as yours, then you must not state your views, and you must keep it to yourself, that is bullying. When someone can post a negative concept to an idea, thought, or point; however, no one is able to post the opposite to that same thought, idea or point in order to have inclusivity, that is hypocrisy.
That is what Ravelry has done with their statement of position, stating that all Trump supporters are unambiguously white supremists The definition of unambiguous is not open to more than one interpretation. So in calling Trump supporters unambiguously white supremists, they have just made themselves unambiguous at the same time.
What they do to each other is not my concern, however, what they do to others is. In doing what they did, they shutdown any possibility of promotion of patterns that supporters could have bought. That is economic oppression.
It is one thing for Ravelry to have created this fiasco. They could have easily said NO POLITICAL items at all, banning all. Instead they opted for the 1st Ammendment restriction. Limiting the voices of those they don't agree with.
I really wish everyone would have looked at the total statement and outcome before they jumped on board because of a few key words and phrases, BIPOC, LBGQT+. Perhaps they would have thought a little more towards a total Political ban instead of a subjective ban.
I dont like a side of politics with my yarn. They talk about inclusion, but only if you are in complete compliance with them. Make no mistake, its not only Trump and his policies they are against, they were out to weed out all conservatives and they have succeeded.
If you like to be controlled by left-leaning liberals and have your opinions gagged/blocked if you differ then this is the place for you! Used to be a good site for knitting, weaving, crochet, spinning but became highly political and unfriendly unless you fit in their prescribed box. The hate is spiraling out of control with many ugly and hateful comments allowed - personal attacks appear to be welcome. Owner and staff (lily white btw) only wants people to buy from POC and/or some other "protected" group but again only if they are ultra liberal as well. Sorry to see this happen - previously they rejected a fair number of members because of politics/religion but that seemed to have settled down until recently the hate became impossible to ignore when any person that approves of Trump in any manner has been determined to be White Supremacists and Nazi. Currently they are attempting to coerce all pattern designers and yarn suppliers to announce that they "back Ravelry" in their new mission to label and demonize all others. Disgusting behavior
I really love the way I can add my magazines and books to my library and then search thru them on my IPad. Being able to see patterns made in different yarns is so helpful. I don't know what I would do without it.
I joined and also create craft communities that are inclusive of all races, religions or political views. After reading the comments posted on the main page of Ravelry calling those that differ from their beliefs "white Supremists", no matter of their ethnicity and reading correspondence between Ravelry and fellow fiber artists, I do not know why anyone would want to associate themselves with people that have such venomous hatred of others. I do not understand why a craft site would get involved in such immature behavior.
Answer: Ravelry refuses to support bigotry in any form and states so in its TOS. It is a privately owned platform and they are well within their rights. They have absolutely not banned Christians or conservatives, only speech that supports bigots and bigotry.
Answer: Because they are creating a culture of ignorance and hate in the name of politics.
Answer: This has nothing to do with Ravelry. Sockmatician is receiving feedback on a post he wrote and then heavily edited.
Answer: In the notebook section, go to your library. Choose your pattern and there will be a download button. Alternatively, for free patterns, on the main pattern page there will be a link to click to download the pattern or, if it isn't hosted on Ravelry, a link to where you can find the pattern on another website.
Answer: Can you point to any reviews that are actually doing that?
Answer: By email / by downloading it - If you purchase a pattern on Ravelry, it is a digital download.
Answer: How interesting that I answered this question several hours ago, but now *POOF* my answer has magically disappeared. WHICH PROVES MY ASSERTION. This site is helping Ravelry suppress opposing points of view. What that means is, this site is not objective and cannot be trusted for accurate information concerning the businesses that are reviewed.
Answer: I would imagine that it has something to do with Ravelry insisting that their ignorant behavior be defended. Even if that means many will no longer take sitejabber reviews seriously. I mean, how could I? Sitejabber is now guilty of silencing dissenting opinions. Just like Ravelry.
Answer: Laura J., the negative reviews are also objective. They have been posted by real people such as me, reporting real experiences past and present. True assessment of a company needs both sides of the story. If the negative reviews disappear again, it would imply someone from Ravelry is exerting undue influence over SiteJabber. There was mention in an answer to a similar question about some people a "Boycott Ravelry" group using fake names and addresses to post fake reviews. I was not a member of that group, and know some of the people posting reviews since the initial ones were deleted. We are not fake. We speak the truth, whether you want to hear it or not.
