1. Rentalcars.com - email received with booking number, no address where to pick up car - in Atocha station Madrid only information and "Provider" - Record. So you think to go to the area with all the hire car firms are. Think again. Helpful lady in Alamo pointed me in right direction. 10 minutes walk from Atocha.
2. Record - the provider. Pay 1100 excess please on credit card. Insert in pay point. NEVER been asked for such a steep excess bond before. I ultimately declined.
3. Record - the provider. Pay 70 insurance cover instead... ( I had already paid 42 full premium cover with Rentalcars.com.)
3. Rentalcars.com rang - you can drop our insurance and pay Record insurance. 42+ 70 = 112 for a one day car hire.
4. I am taking the metro today.
Thieves@ Record; Cowboys@ Rentalcars.com
5. Intermediary www for car hire. Nothing to see here. Go directly to providers.
0 stars, absolute rip off. Advertised charges will be more than doubled at time of collection. Fuel was charged at twice its garage price. Will never use rental cars or Goldcar in Tenerife again. The hour and a half queue to collect the car at the airport summed up the service. Everyone I spoke to had the same comments. Please beware and don't spoil your holiday, Use a reputable company instead!
The company does not care much about their customers, just their income. Horribly buggy website and app, nearly impossible to use. No much effort is put to resolve your issue once you booked a car. Don't recommend.
I booked a Dollar rental from them online for $282.80, when I picked up car, Dollar's actual charge was $222.19. Rentalcars.com pocketed the $60 difference. They refused to refund the difference, saying they got me the best possible deal. Total B. S. Steer clear of this predatory outfit!
As per other reviews just read here, they say you are insured, then the company hiring to you says you are not. Double dipping with a 'we wipe our hands of it' attitude. We rented through Rentalcars.com for an October 2016 trip through France. They said we had 'full cover'. Hertz in Arles said we had no cover. They also added on VAT which was not in rentalcars original quote as a separate cost. ( This is a trap for young players but normally confined to lawyers and real estate agents-first time we've been misled in a commercial transaction like this). They are refusing to engage with us and say that the transaction is complete. I am about to pursue them through the small claims court and suggest others do the same. BTW just posted this on trustpilot.co.uk which suspiciously has nothing but praise reviews for this company. Suggest all with this complaint also post there, Facebook, The Review Centre, and Moneysupermarket.com
Buyer beware! If your flight is extra late(which isn't uncommon these days) your reservation will be canceled and they won't give your money back! Neither Rentalcars.com or Sixt, the company who Rentalcars.com contracted us with.
Then when you get to airport they charge you again only twice as much! They say you should have contacted them before hand.
Im trying to get our money back from cc company on the premise we received no actual goods or services. Would have given zero stars if I could.
I've foolishly used rentalcars.com twice. First time in Italy I ordered a audi a3 and they substituted the worst thing ever made a jeep renagade.
Second time in kauai and they gave me some conformation number budget says does not exist. Now that all the cars are sold out I'm left with a nonexistent reservation for 18 days. These people are horrible, do not risk your trip on them. Every time I call they end up putting me on hold then after 20 minutes disconnect. They are really horrible.
Customer service.
Arrived in portugal for car hire collection, they had the wrong times, even though flight times added. Spent 4 days trying to contact through app and direct and no reply. Avoid at all costs as it is when you have a problem, you get the measure of a company and rental cars have failed miserably, still no reply to my emails and will never use again after 10 years, but tho sis the first time I have needed their help, but too busy to respond. Spent a little more and go with a more reputable company.
Booked a car with rentalcars.com, but was told by website that the booking had failed. Tried again this time "successfully ", however, yesterday they took over £700 from my bank account, and I find that they have taken more money in small amounts, 6 times in all. I've reported them to the police... and I'm not the first! The police's own fraud team have flagged them up. Stay away from them at all costs.
Horrible service, its better to book directly with the car rental company. Should anything go wrong and for me it did several times you are screwed. They will not cover your back in any case. They got their commision and that is all they care about. Even if you provide solid proof such as pictures, documentation they will reject any complaint you might have. STAY AWAY its not worth the trouble.
Answer: Good luck with that one, I'm in the same boat, I'm going to pass my situation on to the travel doctor at the Sunday Times.
