I rented a car in september 2024, they did not manage to find a suitable car to match my request so I refused the rental.
I have called over 20 times and is January 2025. Still haven't received any refund. As a side note, The refund amount it's 30% of the sum paid initially for the rental. STAY AWAY!
Also, the price of the insurance is even more then the price of the rental... again, STAY AWAY.
I was suppose to pay only $33 at counter as per my rentalcars.com voucher. Instead they required me to pay $109 at counter. I called the customer service after that she asked me to proceed and open up case for the refund.
When I opened up the case they closed it without notifying me and when I called and presented that it was their represenative who asked to me to proceed after she realized they provided wrong amount on voucher she hung up the phone on me. Goons with pretty voice.
My money was withheld without a valid reason, no car was provided, and no policy was presented to justify the company's actions. For over a month, I've been trying to recover the funds that were wrongfully taken, but I only receive generic and evasive responses from different "representatives" of Rentalcars.com. Even when I requested a physical address to initiate legal proceedings, my request was evaded.
Never rent from this company especially where they offer deals such has free fuel, free GPS or insurance for multiple drivers. It is all a con. When you arrive to collect your car the actual car hire company you hire from will tell you they have never heard of this premium package. They don't give you free fuel and penalise you if you don't bring the car back with a full tank. They have never heard of insuring multiple drivers so their advice 'Do it at your own risk!' and the car has GPS anyway. It is all a scam by 'Rentalcars' to take more money from you for actually no extra benefit. It is false advertising but they know we can't do anything about it. On top of this when you complain they don't care. Avoid at all costs.
This site has a major flaw and advertises free cancelation if cancelled prior to pick up. I did cancel and they refused to refund me.
I booked and then cancelled a few minutes later. I had reviewed the cancellation charges and saw these to be free. However rental cars.com says otherwise, and has fought my bank for the money. My bank has left me out of pocket also.

This site works with a lot of shady companies like ca rental and etc who don't honor the price promised on this website. Do not use this website even if you get a good deal.
Booked an "AWD or similar" car to get me from the airport to the ski resort I was staying at. When checking in I was told that the class booked was a 2 wheel drive car and I had to pay to upgrade to the vehicle class that I wanted. I appreciate vehicles given may differ to the make/model specified but the attribute I was most concerned about was having an all wheel drive vehicle. Customer services aren't no help after the event either, won't be using RentalCars.com ever again and I'd advise anyone else reading this review to book directly with the company they're seeing the good deals from.
Rented a 7 passenger vehicle a month ago and now three days before my trip they send me a confirmation for a 5 passenger car. The rep was very hard to understand and she insisted that I was wrong and that the car is a 5 passenger. As though I don't have the printed original confirmation in front of me saying 7 passenger Ford Explorer. Talked over me to the point that I was yelling at her. Offered to change the reservation to a 7 passenger mini-van for TWICE the price and refused to allow me to speak to a supervisor. What am I supposed to do with my two extra passengers?! Now I have to wait for the refund which according to the other reviews here may never come. Possibly the worst company I have ever dealt with.
Total scam. At pickup, was told my $100/300 ins. Coverage wasn't enough (charged $189 for their $300/500). Declined their toll tag charges (had my own mobile tag). After return, was charged for use of theirs ($15/day + tolls + $25/toll [their fee]). It's taken 4 months to clear it through my credit card. Tried to charge me for dents in the car - good thing I had taken pictures at rental. Total BS company.
I ordered a car through rentalcars, when I came to pick up the car, the representative who received me started the conversation by saying that it was a shame that I ordered the car through an external company, that in the future I always have to order through the rental company directly.
He threatened me, that if I take the vehicle as I ordered through rentalcars, he will have to block 2000 euros on my credit account and it will take them several months to release.
He forced me to take full insurance through the rental company and said that rentalcars collection would be cancelled.
But i was charged twice. Very bad service. Stay away!
