I called Select Home Warranty about my dishwasher. My dishwasher cost 600.00.
SHW sent out a company called TMT for the repair. The technician diagnosed the problem bad pump, heater and wand. Then for some reason TMT fired him. We called TMT asking why it was taking two weeks to get back to us. They said that they fired the technician. Then we waited another week. I called TMT back and she said they had the parts and were ready to come and finish the job. Well a young boy showed up without all the parts. My wife had to find and play a youtube video so the guy could replace the wand in the dishwasher. He tried to get us to sign off on the job saying the repair was finished. So then when we called TMT back she said she was not aware of the parts list because the technician that they fired never turned in the parts list. This went on for 2 months. After that I cancelled TMT and SHW let me know that I was entitled to a $185 for the repair and to send me a check. I decided to go back to my old company American Home Shield - WHY? My dishwasher was 4-5 years old SHW pro-rated the dishwasher so if I wanted it fixed I would have had to pay the difference between what they said it was worth and what the technician was going to charge. I sent them 1000. 00 for a 3yr contract, never turned in a claim and I had their service for about 6 months. So they took back the 185.00 they said I deserved to get for the dishwasher repair and they said all that was left from my 3 year contract was 400.00. Needless to say I would never recommend SHW for any property owner. I explained the same scenario to my old company American Home shield and they said that if the repair was more expensive than the appliance they would have replaced the dishwasher. I am glad I learned about SHW now, instead of when my two heat pumps went out, then I would really be stuck. SHW offers NO benefits to the home owner. They hire inexperienced labor, they prorate the repair and make the customer pay the rest.
If you are thinking about a home warranty company don't go with Select Home Warranty I am going to get a lawyer to get results. They have not done one thing correct on the issue I have had. At the first of the year my hot water heater went out they wouldn't cover it because they said it was a leak. It wasn't just a leak. When my washing machine had problems I had to pay for it because I couldn't wait for three week for them to resolve the issue. Now the outside ac unit when Sunday night. No AC in Houston is terrible. I file the claim it would be 24 to 48 hours. I called and was very nice stating that I need it take care before that. Well 24 hours later we had a AC guy come and take a look at it. He said it was a simple fix and he had the part. Just need the approval from Select Home it Warranty would take another 24 to 48 hours. I called them back and said that I need it fixed now. We have had a death in the family and I have people coming into town and there is no way we can have them here without AC. The women state she would fast track it and I should hear within few hours (before 5 PM) I didn't I get a request by email for a picture of the unit. What a picture why. So I sent them a picture and called. Was told it would take 24 to 48 hours for approval. What! Do they have to approve? It is covered. I want to talk with a supervisor. I couldn't she would tell me the same thing. Then let me talk to someone who can. Put me on hold for a hour. Did a load of laundry, change sheet on bed, took out trash, got dressed. Finally came back on line stated that the supervisor was on another call and would call me back. I asked for another number to call no response long pause, she stated there was not another number to call. I have never cussed anyone out in 70 years. Response we will have some call you back. Now we are going to have to go to a hotel 5 rooms four nights
The WORST Home Warrenty Company EVER! I should have just lit $550 i paid SHW for this policy. 2 items needing repair, 1st one in September was never taken care of. Now 2nd claim, they now say they don't cover outside hot tubs. 3rd frig leaking, have had to call now a 4th time to get leak fixed before leaving for holidays and over a week later, I'm actually on hold to find out again why no one has contacted me to get this serviced. All SHW offers is for ME to find my own repair person, but SHW only allows up to $100 & requires authorization for anything more than that. The sales rep Jake that sold me this policy in January 2021 lied & or misrepresented their service and what was covered. He was told it was an outside hot tub, told our heating & ac was Split HVAC units. Oh, yes, that's all covered & you'll also get roof leak repairs and 14 months for price of 1 year. I'm NEVER allowed to speak to a manager, I just get how SORRY they are & they'll escalate our service request. Plus on top of that, i don't think I've ever spoken to anyone in the USA. I will NOT be renewing my contract with this horrible company. Excuses constantly & no resolution. DO NOT BUY A HOME WARRENTY PLAN FROM THIS COMPANY. Save yourself the grief I've been thru and still going through with them

We - and even more so our guests, have dealt with the joys of having a broken heater/AC in the guest area of our home. The fact that three of our guests thus far have had the pleasure of experiencing it speaks volumes about the efficiency of the company we've entrusted our home warranty to. We reported the issue over four weeks ago, and they've shown an exceptional commitment to procrastination in addressing our claim. Every time we reach out to them, they assure us that a supervisor will call us the very next morning. We can only admire their consistency in either not returning the call, or having someone who barely speaks English avoiding to deal with our claim. Their customer service team takes the term "language barrier" to new heights, with English that is barely comprehensible. They claim they are in New Jersey - they are not, the accent is probably from the Philippines or thereabouts. Nothing wrong with that in principle, but the only training these people have had is to ask how they can help, and then making absolutely sure they avoid doing so. Stunningly useless. Our tireless efforts to get the heater replaced have been met with a level of productivity that would make a sloth proud. With two years into a five-year warranty and around $5000 invested in this "home warranty" company, we can't help but question the wisdom of staying with this company any longer. Switching to another home insurance provider seems more tempting by the day regardless of the financial hit we will take. They are utterly useless. The B- rating for this company must be a testament to their uncanny ability to be both disappointing in customer service and poor in value for money, but it does not reflect reality, which in our experience is way worse. My wife has developed a newfound hobby of calling them daily, only to be met with the sweet sound of unhelpful responses in barely intelligible English. Their latest magnanimous offer as of today is to cover the cost of the part only (we'll get excited when this turns out to be real, at least), which we can all agree is the epitome of generosity. In light of our experience, we would wholeheartedly recommend thinking twice before signing up with this home warranty company. They must, hopefully, be at the bottom of their league. Whatever you do, go somewhere else!
I inquired about switching contract from AHS to Select and was greeted with great customer service and Veteran discounts!
HORRIFFIC! DO NOT DO IT! My dish washer has been broken for over a month. I have had them them for over a year and never made a claim until now. First they tell me they have no one to service my machine. They will keep looking. Then after 2 weeks I get back in touch and they tell me to get my own person and go from there. So I get a diagnosis of parts are no longer available and to buy a new unit. I submit this statement from the repair company to select home warranty who then proceed to tell me in not covered because it's within the first 30 days of having the policy! What?! It's been 13 MONTHS! So after going back and forth with them for over a week they finally decide its covered. After much fighting for a resolution they offer me $150! I had a double draw dish washer that was $1200! They said I have to buy the dish washer out of pocket, submit the receipt then they will mess me around again until they decide to send me the 150! This to me was worthless! They were not there when I needed them. I'm just giving them money every month for nothing! I was so angry I told them I'm canceling my policy. Then they take another $75 out of my account for canceling, after I told them over and over I do not authorize this transaction especially as they owe me for the dishwasher. The woman on the phone told me she understood and was sorry. Guess what, they took the money anyway and won't give me what they owe me because I canceled before I could affort to buy a new dishwasher! Scum of the earth. And they don't have contracted service people because they don't pay them either! That's what the company told me when they came out to diagnose my dishwater. That's why no one will work with them anymore. Disgusting theiving zero integrity pieces of crap!

SUBMIT MY PAPERWORK AND THEY CALLED ME RIGHT BACK WITH THE INFORMATION.
1. My initial call inquiring on fees/coverages spoke with Steven in sales, In 10 minutes he wants to get down to business asking for my payment to buy their 6 years services, any more questions on coverage GO READ terms & conditions ON YOUR OWN. I wasted 15 minutes of my time feeling frustrated.
2. Same conversation with Steven about their free roof coverage, he said it's a USELESS COVERAGE THAT's why it's free. Select only pay for leak patch, regardless if it caused any electrical OR cable shortage & plywood needed before synthetic paper cover the leak AND broken/ missing tiles are NOT included. That tells me Select only perform temporary fix NOT TAKE CARE OF PERMANENT FIX.
3. I called back asking for COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT email, spoke to Issac whom was gentle & patient in calming me down. Issac convinced me to buy service from them & assure me their service is good once I tried. He even said consumers can FREEZE the plan indefinitely not wasting plan time if encounter job transfer needed to work out of State for a period of time such as 1-2 year work transfer or taking 6 months vacation away from home. That adds more point.
4. Just saw the review that if you use own licensed/insured contractor pay out of own pocket first, SELECT only reimbursed part cost, LABOR COST NOT INCLUDED. This is a little tricky, I will call Issac to find out tomorrow. He said worked for SELECT for 9 years and SELECT from New Jersey only in Home Warranty business for 9 years too. He should know the answer.
5. Per review, their Customer Service took forever to answer call & hung up on customer to avoid complaint or future claim; reimbursement CHECK of service took more than 6 weeks. Many questions to clarify with Issac. I will also call Customer Service tomorrow pretend inquire a claim to see how they respond to us in term of needs, otherwise, I'm stuck with them for 6 years if Service Department not as good as what Issac, the sales representative said.
This company is a SCAM. We filed a claim for a broken garbage disposal and they said that they would give us $75 for a replacement. The actual cost to replace the disposal would be about $400-$450.
We are very unsatisfied with that resolution and how challenging it has been to get clear and correct information from the call center. I have called MANY times and have received bad customer service each time. It has taken a ridiculous amount of phone calls and time (the plumber waited 2 hours on hold when he tried calling to report his determination that the disposal needed to be fixed). I have been told multiple times that I would be contacted by a manager within a certain time frame and have not been contacted.
We feel misled by the false advertising on the site and the salespeople that we worked with. One of the salespeople charged our credit card without our consent so we were ultimately charged twice for our policy and it took almost two months (7 weeks) to get reimbursed. The site says "We'll repair or replace your covered item. You pay a minimal service fee. Simple as that." and the contract specifically says "this agreement covers all modules, components, and parts of the garbage disposal necessary to the functionality of the garbage disposal". This indicates that items will be repaired or replaced when necessary. Then the contract has the caveat of section 8 that says Select Home Warranty does not have to cover something if it's irreparable or not cost efficient to fix. This essentially enables Select to avoid paying to cover any claim submitted because nothing is "cost effective". I understand that we had 30 days to cancel our policy once the contract was sent to us, but we were under the impression that Select would operate in the best interest of the homeowner and didn't think we had to read through the contract that we didn't even have to sign to verify that the claims made on their site were true.
The plumber that came out to our house agreed that this is something that home warranty companies typically cover.
When I finally was able to speak to a manager, they gave me an email address and said that there was nothing they could do and probably wouldn't be able to get help by emailing the back house but to try. I tried and explained this whole situation and received the following response: "We are in receipt of your email. Please contact us at *******532 option 5 to discuss your claim." This does not resolve ANYTHING and is frustrating because that's the number I've called MANY times that ultimately told me to email.
I want my garbage disposal covered and I want my money back from this company. It is awful and frustrating.
I am a single, senior (almost 60) legally blind female who recently purchased a new home. I felt that I had been defrauded out of $1934. 96 ("warranty price") and all I got for my money was excuses and no resolution whatsoever. After not receiving service on two separate warranty issues, I requested a refund.
On May 26th I spoke with Nicholas in the escalations department. We discussed cancelling my policy and getting a refund. He told me that he could talk to me about my refund but could not send me anything in writing. He told me he would have billing send me the refund information.
On May 27th spoke with Ron Smith a "manager in the executive customer relation department". I again ask for my refund information in writing. Mr. Smith told me that he could tell me about the numbers over the phone but not in writing, he said that the billing department could only provide those number and his would be an estimate. I asked him to send me the estimate via email and he agreed.
I emailed James Wilson who is another "manager in the executive customer relation department" on June 14th and told him that I wanted a break-down of details and calculations for my refund emailed to me.
I emailed Joe Shrem, owner of the company twice (June 11th and 21st) requesting my refund information in writing and still have not received any written information.
I have requested a detailed summary of the calculations used to determine my refund FIVE SEPARATE TIMES and have been denied this information.
Only fraudulent, fly by night con artists refuse to put things in writing. This organization preys on the elderly and disabled and needs to be put out of business!

The first time I attempted to use this policy was 3 months into my newly purchased home living. I purchased the policy because I was moving to a different state where I knew no one and wanted vetted contractors in case something went wrong with the home.
I am having electrical issues with the outlets not working in my master bedroom. I filed a claim and received a call back the next day stating that the technicians were backed up and they wanted me to find my own electrician, but would only cover x amount of the service call even though I had to find my own AND I needed to get them on the phone while the electrician was there (more than a 30 minute hold time the first time I called into them). I asked for a refund since they failed to provide services, they said they would work on it and call me back the next day and I said that was fine.
The next day we went through the same thing and I asked to speak to a supervisor after being told the technicians were too busy to come to me... backed up. Well, I live in a rural place (5k people in the whole county) so I could see this and I asked the supervisor exactly how long it would take the electricians to get to me, he said they aren't backed up, they just don't have contracts with anyone near me so they have no service providers for my need. They have tried to call the electricians around me and no one wants to work with them! That's why it would be better if called them myself...paid for the fees and they would reimburse me?!?!?!? No, I'd like a refund.
2 more days and calls of promises of securing a provider, speaking with supervisors, etc. Same run around and empty promises, no one calling me back that said they would call me back. They have taken more than a week!
I feel like a broken record- requesting a refund, requesting to cancel services/subscriptions. They finally did today- BUT are taking $75 cancellation fee, prorated refund up until TODAY- NOT LAST WEEK WHEN I INITIALLY REQUESTED THE REFUND, and I'll see that refund in 3-4 weeks, don't forget the initial 30 days that you can't file a claim... that doesn't count in the pro-rated refund as non-applied time.

When you pay for a "Home Warranty" you expect to what the name implies. A warranty that covers your home an appliances should they break. After all the very definition of a warranty is " a written guarantee, issued to the purchaser of an article by its manufacturer, promising to repair or replace it if necessary".
I purchased a "warranty" through select home warranty and paid over $600 for approximately 1 year of coverage of my home where my wife and 2 small children reside. I bought into the sales pitch of " Shield your wallet. Shield your home". I thought I was purchasing piece of mind. What I was really purchasing though was a SCAM.
Recently my clothes washer started making a loud banging noise so I decided it was time to file a claim with Select Home Warranty (from here on out I'll refer to SHW as " SCAM ARTISTS"). So I filed the claim and they sent out a technician to diagnose the problem. I paid the technician his $75 service fee and he submitted the information to the SCAM ARTISTS. Later that day I called THE SCAM ARTISTS to follow up with them and they indicated to me that they were giving me a $100 dollar credit towards the purchase of a new washing machine.
WHAT?!?!?!?
What is the point of having a warranty on your home and appliances if all they're going to do is write it off as "broken"?! I could've told them that is was broken! So basically after paying the technician the $75, I ended up with a 25 bucks towards the purchase of a $900 dollar washing machine! If that's not a scam I don't know what is.

Answer: After filing 5 claims, and one tech that wanted to pad his pocket resulting in me fixing my own leak in a toilet at my expense after paying their tech. And another tech wanting to get my pool setup for summer at150. More than I already gave for deductible she didn't fix my pump or water line to my pool. Both denied by select home Warrenty. And 3 more that I paid their techs for then had to fix it myself. Now my freezers compressor is out and they took money out of my bank account without my permission after saying they would go ahead and fix the freezer well guess what they declined it. And said it wasn't covered when in the contract it says it is. List all meat and others because of 3 weeks if waiting for them
