SendGrid has a rating of 1.4 stars from 58 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about SendGrid most frequently mention credit card, and customer service problems. SendGrid ranks 274th among Email Marketing sites.
What makes Sendgrid better than most other SMTP relays? Reporting, price and their great customer service. Obviously we could all run our own server and use Postfix or MS exchange but then we have to deal with the black art of actually not getting our emails shoved into a spam folder. With sendgrid we are given the tools to successfully deliver emails and can avoid most of the tricks that you would have to employ otherise. Prices is insanely low when compared to other similar services. One really good feature is their email reputation score, everytime you log in you can see where you are at and what is hurting you... open rates, etc. This is critical in developing any type of email newsletter or direct campaign. Their customer service is also great, they will actually return emails and you can do a live chat with them that does provide help (as opposed to most live chat that is out there). Great service especially for the price.
I have been trying to get them to cancel my account for weeks now. Their double authentication does not work and I cannot access the account. There is nobody to speak with and the customer service is nonexistent. The only way to get them to stop billing you is to cancel your credit card. One of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.
This company is the pits. I get so much spam from them (from their clients) it is unreal. Spam is rare from the likes of Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, Aweber etc but Sendgrid is incessant. They are a magnet for spammers. You send them an email to report it and their standard answer is to unsubscribe. Are you joking? Unsubscribe from something you never subscribed to? Doing so will just tell the spammer your email address is active. They don't seem to understand how spam works and the fact that by reporting it you're actually doing them a favour.
Tip for consumers:
Do not use this business if you are a legit business and value your brand. They send so much spam you are in danger of getting lumped in with the bad guys.
They just can disactivate your account for now reason and your businnes will be down for uncertain period of time. And you won't have any replies from support for weeks even if you send them hundreds requests.
I use 1000-2000 mails / month, I registered package with 40k mails. Someone put 400k spam emails to the system. Maybe the API keys is lost somehow. The Sendgrid helped to check the case and notified me to secure the account (I did not check it for 2 year). When I complaint about the monthly payment, Sendgrid checked the case and refund to customer. I'm appreciate about this.
Tip for consumers:
Secure the email configuration to keep service working safely.

I've never experienced such a headache as I have with sendgrid once I signed up with the 2FA. I was able to sign in once, after that, I never received another code from the author app that I had to download to be able to sign in. I signed up with another email account, and set the 2FA to text me a code, I again received one text and have not been able to sign in again. You can't call in, they only offer that to the top tier customers. I have to try and rely on emails, fill out the form, wait. Get and email, wait, respond, wait. I'd go with another company.

They are outright thieves! They charge me for 50,000 twice on the same month. I only upload 50,000 on March 1, then deleted the contact on March 6. Therefore, I was charged $69.95 which I did owe. But my problems is they charge me again for 50,000 which I no longer had. I talk to support and they told me well you are charge at the end of each month. So you charge $69.95 March 1 and March 31st. Please stay away, do not give these people your credit card information. They will enjoy charging the hell out of your account.
This company has as a policy to just lock you out of your account with no communication to you. We were in the middle of an email campaign - our first mailing with this company - and all of a sudden we couldn't access our account. Mailing was stopped about 2/3rd's the way through. Our "Reputation" meter on the mailing last checked at 97%. So we were puzzled as to why were locked out. Maybe a malfunction of some sort. Nope. This is what they do when they decide you have violated their rules. They will not tell you what you did. Just lock you out. No number to call, don't respond to emails except days later when support said we violated their rules but support says they don't know what rules.
One of the worse email marketing services I have ever used.
I was attracted by the low price compared to other similar services. Of course, there was a reason for it:
* Monthly subscription may be low, but you pay an additional fee each time you upload 10.000 emails to your contact lists. Removing invalid emails from your list is painful because the user interface is slow and buggy, and when you are done you have to reupload the list (and repay the fee, of course).
* Customer support is basically nonexistant. I had the same issues as another review below: long answering times, unprepared operators, chats closed without any explanation.
* After a few days, I couldn't log in to my account. It took me hours to get in touch with an operator, who told me that my account was suspended because I didn't provide some required company information. I did not receive ANY notification whatsoever about it.
I decided to unsubscribe and delete my account after the first month.
Never again.
Tip for consumers:
Stay away, seriously. There's a reason for the low price.
Sendgrid take no responsibility when it comes to their users abusing their service. I constantly have emails blocked because of abuse by another user of SendGrid - and while they assure me that they're doing "all they can", the emails still remain blocked - and I guess sending the emails from another IP address is out of the question...
I have clients complaining that their emails aren't getting sent - and to be able to find out, I need to pay for an addon to my paid account to be able to see the event history via API.
The support person also suggested that I upgrade to a plan, so I'm paying 6 times as much to be able to just have better email deliverability - which is why I started using SendGrid in the flipping first place!
What a crock...

Terrible attitude & support!
Please see below the response of the company while I was trying to open a new account:
"
Our provisioning process is done in order to protect our system as well as inboxes around the world from potential spam email. We perform many checks to determine the validity of our new customers and unfortunately some of those checks have triggered scores that are historically indicative of high risk. Our Provisioning Team will not be able to provision your account for this reason.
In regards to billing, as your account has not been activated, no payment has been processed against your credit card.
We thank you for your consideration and we wish you the best in your future endeavors.

When I've contacted the company and explained that I'm a real person, with proven professional background and even supplied LinkedIn link, the response remained the same.
VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING, especially because there is no reason for such an attitude - pure discrimination, shame.
The low price made me skeptical to begin with. So I only put one contact in my database and tried to send an email just to test it out. I made the email and hit "send". And for some reason, they only allowed that campaign to being labeled as a "request". The email never made it to the "delivered" section. So I logged back in and checked the status after a couple of days and that campaign was still not delivered. So I made a duplicate email and hit send again just to see if maybe I did something wrong. Same thing happened. So in a nutshell, they would not deliver "one" email to "one" person for me. And I tried to find some help on the website. They dont have and email or a support staff as far as I saw. So I would never give them a dime, because there is nobody to help me with my issue. And, after reading the other reviews on here, i'm inclined to believe that the positive reviews have to be fake. As far as their business model, it seems like a good way to make a lot of money before they get shut down (if they get shut down). The picture shows how I have two campaigns that were never delivered. And they haven't given a reason why and they dont have support so I can find out why. They suck in my opinion.
I created an account and payed on August 26th, tried to upload my lists, it was impossible because the service was down, I was not able to access the account on 27th and asked customer support, on 28th they tell they closed the account for violation of service terms."Our system does not provide myself or other members of Support with details regarding decisions made by our compliance team"
Still waiting for them to even acknowledge a week old ticket. Looking at moving away from them due to bad service. We are a client paying over $150 a month, and they just ignore us.
There is no way to remove your credit card from the account information and they keep charging me month after month after month. I was never able to use this service, and their Tech Dept could not resolve the issue. But they keep charging as if I was actuallya ble to use their service. I write, they respond, but nothing happens. I keep having VISA investigate, they say they have resolved the complaint, but the first of the month rolls around and SendGrid charges me again. STAY AWAY FROM SENDGRID I use mailchimp for my high school class notices and have never had a problem. But SendGrid is all about problems. If I could give 0 stars, I would.
We reported an issue 2 weeks ago and we are still waiting on a resolution or assistance. They do not help or follow up with any issues. I will be canceling this service. The worse experience ever.
We used SendGrid for nearly two years with few real problems and good service response when the very occasional issue did arise.
In the last month, the IP pool we are in had become constantly contaminated and our emails and newsletter would get blocked, at least 2-3 times a week.
They would, in the past, move known-good senders (like us) to a different pool. Not anymore. Any contact you make with them starts with "We're terribly sorry, etc." and then immediately afterwards, "The solution to this is to moved to a fixed IP" -- which is very expensive on SendGrid and, as is well known, is not a panacea.
SendGrid should be managing their IP pools, but now it seems they are using pools that become contaminated as a means to up-sell you to their expensive fixed IP option.
Don't waste your time trying to reason with them. I tried (even contacted management) and they could not care less. Everything they say is channeled to selling fixed IP.
We're moving to a new supplier. And by the way, as we've been scouting the market, other suppliers offer fixed IP options (that we don't really need if the pool is managed well) for a fraction of the cost.
SendGrid now appears only to want to service you if you're a big corporate or a big spender.
We do not send marketing emails, only transactional emails for our windows apps to customers that request support or activation of new devices. We have 100% positive reputation and no bounces or spam reports according to our daily summaries. A week after setting up and adopting SendGrid for our emails, we were suddenly banned without warning or reason, and told "we were not a fit, so they won't talk to us anymore, bye." PLEASE search about this, it has happened to many others. You can do all the work to ensure you are 100% a "good email sender" and best potential customer ever, and then they can take your money and shut you down without warning and no resolution or communication with them possible, period. We lost thousands of dollars and unprecedented customer reputation lost due to this. Buyer beware.
"Hello,
Thanks for reaching out. SendGrid leverages many different vetting techniques and as such we've determined that you're not a good fit for our platform. Because of this, we will not be able to activate your account. Our system does not provide myself or other members of Support with details regarding decisions made in the sign-up process. As such we are not able to provide any more information to you.
I apologize for this inconvenience."
Do not ever use this service 1) The interface/dashboard is shockingly poor and badly written 2) They lag on sending emails which go through in tranches rather than one fell swoop 3) I have never experienced such an arrogant and bad display of customer service.
You'll lose your miney if you use this service AND I NEVER complain about service so please take this as a warning not to use or trust this company.
As a SaaS provider I have integrated through API, not only it was hard and required a couple of hacks, but I had to realise the hard way that a lot of their IPs are in RBLs and support won't remove them or take care of the offenders that led those to be blacklisted. As our client ended up with a 30% delivery rate they forced me to move to Amazon SES.
They just didn't accept my sign up and didn't state a reason for that. They just referenced a few docs none of which contained at least a single point my business violate. Highly disappointed
We had been sending out around 1000 e-mails per day using G-Suite (via SMTP), and with new features being released we projected that we would exceed G-Suite daily 2000 message limit. So we moved over to SendGrid with the expectation of no more than 100K message per month, and chose the 20.00 plan that was in line with our volume requirements. Within 4 days Yahoo/AOL mail became deferred because Shared IP's were being blacklisted based on other users mail practices. So we were stuck, the only way to address the issue was to upgrade to a PRO plan at 4 times the price, so that we would be sending mail over a dedicated IP address. I never got the feeling that support was trying to resolve the issue, but instead were explaining the problem, and offering the upgrade path as the only solution. It was as if their pool of shared IP addresses was one deep, and if it became blacklisted that was it. I got the feeling that this was an up-sale approach, rather than an issue I just happened to run into after 4 days as a new customer. Not sure what we will do, but I upgraded today just to get our mail moving again. After 72 hours of sitting in the outbound queue, the mail will simply be discarded as undeliverable. Do not use this service unless you start out on a dedicated IP plan. Otherwise it's completely undependable.
Our account got suspended on day 1 for no reason. Raised a support ticket but still no response after 24 hours.
Sendgrid is good unless you need something. Customer service is nonexistent! Don't waste your money. Go somewhere else.
BECAREFUL WITH SENDGRID., is a FRAUD!
I was on a 15 usd monthly plan for 5 months; on the 6th month they billed me for 1,800 usd from my card in one month, No explanation!
Sendgrid wont respond.
Their website doesn't work. It simply takes you into loop and you can't enter any support details. Support response is pathetic.
They suspend the service and not reply the support, since Twilio is managing sendgrid they are cheating the clients and the people
