“Best experience from a mail order company”

Sara X.
1/6/24

I ordered two pairs of woman's gloves, king bed sheets, and two infant outfits on 12/12/23 I received a email that it was shipped the same day and I received the order on 1/6/24. Every thing is in perfect condition. Sierra may have had problems in the past, but they must have fixed them.

“What a shame”

Damian N.
6/10/17

I have spent more then 20,000 dollars over the years at stp. It was one stop shopping for outdoor gear for my family of 5 (hiking / skiing/ camping / beach) and for all my business attire also. No longer. Terrible selection. Terrible shipping rates. Terrible customer service. Can't see how this place will cont to stay in business when all your best customers are leaving. It's sad to see a family business that had such a loyal following be completely gutted by its new corporate owners.

I know that people generally only write reviews when things don't go well, and I admit I am part of that group. I have been shopping at STP since 2006. They use to send out extra discounts and special deals. Now only free shipping. Never had an issue with shipping on-time until now. They stated it was an update of their system. But after another 2 days and still no shipment, I decided to look at some reviews. Sounds like they are slow to ship items. Didn't use to be this way. I know why Amazon is growing so fast. They still do have some good deals, but will consider other options when purchasing.

Verified purchase

We used to shop at STP all the time. And spent thousands of dollars there. They had high quality gear at great prices and unmatched customer service. Then they sold to tj max. All the good gear brands are gone. Now it's just like shopping at any other discount store. Low quality products, prices are only mediocre, shipping sucks, and their customer service has become worse than any other site. Very disappointing. Nice job ruining a great company! Sorry for all the good people who will be out of a job if this continues. If you want good gear go to Enwild or Moose Jaw.

Tip for consumers:
Terrible customer service and shipping time. Don’t buy unless it’s something you already know will work for you and just happens to be on sale.
Used to be a great company until tj max bought it.

Shoes that I already knew would be good

I've ordered probably forty items this year from this website and have not been disappointed once. And, they have terrific deals. Plus, their customer service department is very professional. We needed to recharge some items that were for our company, and thus sales tax exempt, and the rep was gracious and helpful. In addition, they have a great return/exchange policy--nothing is ever a problem.

I have spent many many thousands@ STP over the years, ordering everything from clothes, shoes, camping, exercise gear, kitchenware, bedding, towels, furniture, rugs, pet supplies, the list goes on. I haven't ordered for almost a year, this was the first holiday season I didn't order from STP. Their prices have increased, sales are non existent and the quality and variety of merchandise has plummeted drastically the past two years. Their return policy is no longer what it was. STP is no longer the great company I knew for over 25 years, corporate killed it. I no longer am a customer.

Sierra Trading Post bills themselves as "Your Favorite Brands Up to 70% Off." Sort of kind of. Be aware that while they *sell* you their products at a discounted rate, they charge exorbitant shipping (which of course is not refunded upon returns) as well as a $7 return fee. Apparently I could have gotten cheaper shipping if I chose a street address as opposed to my PO Box, but of course I only found that out after my pair of shorts and sun hat wound up costing me $65 instead of $40. Live and learn. Buyer beware.

Their catalog has gotten slicker and their merchandise more expensive since the company was sold. They still offer big discounts but the starting prices are higher than they used to be.

If you get the paper catalog by mail as I still do, it no longer gives enough information about the merchandise, so I don't order much any more.

This company has had great products and service for many years! I would highly recommend them.

Once a package was delivered to an old address on the opposite side of the country, and when I contacted customer service, they apologized and said that there had been a computer glitch; they gave me several good options to get the package.

There are great coupons if you sign up for the email, but be prepared to receive a lot of emails.

I was once one of STP top customers, by that I mean that I spent that much money. It was my first and really my only site that I purchased anything from. On vacations I would stop at their brick and mortar stores because I liked them that much. Now all that is gone. Prices are higher, stock is thinner, sales and coupons never hit my inbox anymore. Corporate America has taken over. It was a good run while it lasted, time to look elsewhere. Good luck and good by!

This site is easy to navigate. The merchandise is discount name brand clothing and outdoor gear. It is honestly marked if seconds, overstock, etc. Most brands are high end and excellent quality. I have been ordering from them for years and have been very happy.

I've shopped STP for years, and consistently find great values there. With the implementation of item reviews - and when you register for their email for reduced shipping offers - it's easy to consistently land a bargain. Love to sort a given department by "highest discount first".

I used to get good discounts on this site, but now it seems like the pricing isn't any lower than other online retailers and the selection is the same. I think it got purchased in the last few years. No longer receive discounts by email that made it worthwhile. I've started shopping around more before pulling the trigger on this site. Still good but not great.

I have ordered dozens of items and never been disappointed. Delivery is fast and items are in optimum condition. Will continue to shop sierra trading post, primarily for great prices on clothing. I'm big and tall, but I can usually find what I'm looking for in my size.

Excellent prices on a somewhat limited selection of outdoor clothing, shoes, and to a lesser extent, gear. Some of the brands are obscure, but most are high quality national brands. Service is first rate, including easy returns and quick responses.

Used to be the best site on internet. Since buyout it is average or below. Prior to buyout no sales taxes were charged since buyout discounts have markedly decreased, selection is down and shipping cost have increased. Certainly not my first choice of places to shop.

If you make a purchase from STP don't plan on getting it in a timely manner. Purchase items with free shipping after spending $89. Free shipping everyone loves that. After 5 days and counting STP still hasn't shipped items. I don't know how long STP can stay in business with poor customer service when it comes to shipping. What I do know is that STP lost my business. To many other online retailers that take shipping more serious.

As others relayed, a gem of a site that was stripped of its best qualities by new owners. I was once so predictably loyal all my relatives knew an STP gift certificate was the only thing needed come bdays and holidays, but no longer. Luckily other sites like Amazon Groupon, overstock, & 6pm have taken up the slack.

Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks STP has turned down the wrong road after being purchased by TJ Maxx. The below quote from their website has infuriated and alienated many like myself. I used to make purchases about 1/month before they stopped the coupons. Since this time, I have made 1 purchase in the last 2-3 years. Poor choice TJX, please bring back the coupons.

And now I know after reading the recent reviews here. Two years ago I was literally BANNED from buying anything more at STP after receiving written notification my return rate of products exceeded their limits. Just for the heck of it I looked at the site again today and they had exactly 6 pairs of hiking pants available in my size 36 waist. It's actually depressing to see how a corporate buyout can wreck - overnight - what was once a great American company. I wonder if the old owners read these reviews and cry, even if they did get rich with the sale.

We used to love shopping at sierra trading post and are avid outdoorsmen. You could count on quality high end gear at a great savings. Since being purchasing by TJ Max it's no different than any other store. We keep hoping it would go back to the store it was but sadly it has lost our business or dramatically minimized it. Very disappointing!

As many other have said, what happened to Sierra Trading Post?! After the sale of STP things stayed fairly much the same with the long time customer service reps that had been there for years. Deals were fun to find, with the hidden codes and good Dealfliers. Well. Years now and they have become just another big corporate run company. STP was always the first place I would look for clothing, now, it's Amazon or other online stores. Sad to see you change, but I no longer look for your email fliers. Good bye old friends!

STP used to be great. I've been shopping there for decades and have recommended them to numerous friends and family over years.
They had good prices on quality merchandise, great discount offers, free shipping, ect...
Lately, I've noticed a sharp decline from the company they once were... more expensive, less quality, less in discounts, almost never get free shipping anymore. The most disappointing thing is that you could go to their website and just browse and find something interesting/unusual. Not so true anymore. Going through their catalogue you see bland merchandise and more bland merchandise. Nothing special you can't pick up somewhere else (often for a better price). I still shop there occasionally when I'm looking for something specific but it's just not the same. I guess the TJMAXX buyout is to blame. Too bad.

The manager Alicia is rude and disrespectful. I stood in long line to pay and there was only two cashiers. I witnessed Alicia and another employee with a clip board standing by the side of the cashier station talking, then they moved to the back of the store and continued to talk knowing the line was long, Alicia and who believe to be another manager talking without any concern about the long line, they both could of could of opened up another cash register to help move the line, whatever they were talking about seemed more important than customer service. And when told Alicia about it, She said she felt sorry for me because I had nothing better to do with my day! Rude. I will not go back into that store to spend my money.

Sierra Trading Post started as a catalog company based in Cheyenne, WY specializing in outdoor gear and clothing and it expanded from there. Everything it sells is stock overruns, closeouts, seconds, etc., so it's discounted to begin with. It also sells a lot more than outdoor gear these days. Lots of coats, clothing of all sorts, shoes, housewares, rugs, you name it. Once you get on their email list you get all sorts of offers for 25% off this selection of merchandise or 60% off that selection. So if you're careful you can end up with some very good deals. Last year I spent $30 on a pair of Teva sandals that were selling for $120 in stores.

Customer service if you need it is friendly and helpful. Returns are about $6. I have returned things that I found I didn't like or didn't fit once I got them. Read the reviews of an item, if there are any, for info on fit and quality.

I used to love going to STP. All the deals on quality items. Spent thousands of dollars. Alway happy with my purchase. Nothing new here now after they were bought out by TJ Maxx. So sad. I really miss the old STP. Was like hunting treasure before. Not now.
