“Best experience from a mail order company”

Sara X.
1/6/24

I ordered two pairs of woman's gloves, king bed sheets, and two infant outfits on 12/12/23 I received a email that it was shipped the same day and I received the order on 1/6/24. Every thing is in perfect condition. Sierra may have had problems in the past, but they must have fixed them.

“What a shame”

Damian N.
6/10/17

I have spent more then 20,000 dollars over the years at stp. It was one stop shopping for outdoor gear for my family of 5 (hiking / skiing/ camping / beach) and for all my business attire also. No longer. Terrible selection. Terrible shipping rates. Terrible customer service. Can't see how this place will cont to stay in business when all your best customers are leaving. It's sad to see a family business that had such a loyal following be completely gutted by its new corporate owners.

Like many here I am bummed that STP has fallen like it has. Have shopped with them since the get go for the majority of my clothing, footwear, and backcountry gear without fail. Now the prices are no better then elsewhere online and the deal flyers we all like are gone. Living in AK is expensive and STP was my go to for both myself and my wife. Now the only offered deals with "free shipping" don't even apply to AK. Will now go elsewhere.

I have been a long time customer of Sierra Trading Post from well before the TJ Maxx buyout. They have always had great prices and are the first place I go when I'm shopping for outdoor gear and clothing. I have gotten some absolutely smoking deals here over the years. However over the last year I've noticed that the shipping is beyond slow. In the days of two day free shipping I'm not sure how STP expects customers to tolerate their orders sitting in a warehouse for nearly a week before shipping out when they are paying near $10 per order in shipping charges. As a result I simply don't use STP for any items I need in a reasonable time and spend the money elsewhere. It's really a shame because this is really my only complaint with Sierra Trading Post.

I also have spent thousands here and recommend many to the site. They have always had a great selection of quality items with great discounts. Now stuff I've never heard of, poor selections and the great discounts are no more. Probably got to greedy.

I'm glad to know that my complaints of Sierra Trading Post aren't just because I am old and cranky. Looks like pretty much everyone agrees. The discounts, the selection, high-quality brands, the inventory... all gone. And so am I.

Like many reviews, I too am no longer a shopper at STP. I began shopping from them in the late 1980's and have spent thousands of dollars over the years. TJMaxx has ruined a great company. Their supposed deals of late can easily be beat at competitors. I really hate to see my favorite online business no longer a place I am interested in shopping.

Started shopping at STP decades ago. Always a great experience and with durable goods. No more. Been replaced with trivial "brands" and the customer service no longer serves the customer. Goodbye to a great era of shopping. So sad to see the big guys take over. Now it's quantity over quality.

Like others have said, things are now different at STP after being acquired by TJMaxx. I used to shop the site constantly and visit the Reno store occasionally and customer service through either method was excellent. Shopping online used to take time to be sure that you were buying a good product at a good price but now prices are higher and some of the premium brands are gone entirely or have so little inventory that you are highly unlikely to find anything. After checking several times for favorite brands with no luck, it's no longer worth spending the time to even look. I am very sad about losing the old Sierra Trading Post. RIP STP...

As other reviewers have said, I came across sitejabber.com because I was searching for what/why sierra trading post has changed (for the worse) so drastically as of recent. Well I guess the whole TJM thing explains it. Gosh darn it STP! WHY!?!?

STP used to be a great source for well-discounted quality items. There were generous 35% off coupons and free shipping. The changes have been insidious. First, the coupons were cut back to 25% and then to "up to 25%," which, as far as I can tell, often means no discounts at all. The selection of items is diminished. The "deals" at STP on things I am interested in can often be beaten elsewhere -- at places with more reasonable shipping and return policies.

To top it off, I got an email the other day from STP's parent TJMaxx -- free shipping. I think it's safe to say that I have no interest in anything that TJMAxx sells and that probably goes for a lot of STP customers.

Goodbye, STP. It was great while it lasted.

Ordered 2 identical winter jackets.
These are made in Mexico.
Retail is about $130 and they were closing them out at $49.
One jacket was perfect.
The second jacket was a lighter jacket (J001) made in USA.
They stuck stickers, made in Mexico, with the item number I ordered over the original Carhartt tag.
Trying to get me to accept the cheaper, USA made jacket, for what I ordered.
They offered to exchange the jacket, but Im not paying tax and shipping on a bait and switch scam.

I see others have shared the same feelings. I was long time and loyal customer. Sierra just couldn't be beat. Prices, customer services, brand, product line etc... But last summer things started to change. They weren't friendly and actually screwed me out of nearly $700 or merchandise, stating they didn't receive all the contents of my return. Thanks to Chase Credit Card Services crisis averted!. Now they're no longer offering coupons, and prices are on the rise. It appears the plague of TJ Maxx has taken my outdoor gear home. Good luck with your increased margins, but my business will be elsewhere. So long old friend.

Tip for consumers:
Shop elsewhere, you'll find better prices and customer services with their competitors.

I agree with everyone's recent assessment of this once GREAT company. The selection, quality of merchandise, customer service, shipping times/rates, and general ineptitude of the company now that they're under TJX command is truly horrible. Don't waste your money there. Other online sporting goods stores (Backcountry.com, Campmor.com, and others) are stepping up their game and offering discounts on gear and clothing. Shope elsewhere. RIP old STP.

Nothing special about this place anymore since it was purchased by TJ Maxx. The qulaity and the selection has gone waaaaaay downhill. I used to buy stuff from the "Old" Sierra Trading Post all the time, but haven't found anything worth purchasing in the last 3+ years. :(

Called to get the substantial balance on a gift card my daughter gave me just over a year ago.

They had no record of it!

Finally got an email a day later that it had been "found" and promised to send me a new card with the appropriate balance.

After waiting a week and no card I called and got a total run-around, telling me the card had been sent. Checked email, including spam, and no card. Not sure what to do now.

STAY AWAY FROM TJ Max and Sierra Trading Post gift cards!

Still great prices, always look for coupon codes can save a bundle, very good customer service. (I shopped there 4 times during winter seasons starting 2012)

Terrible Fine Print Policy:
- If you return more then 20% (according to their Customer Service) you become unprofitable. This is a clothing and apparel online sales site, how can you be profitable if you lose this way. That is a bad business model. So what do they do, if you return more then 20% - they ask you why, then if you say well I try stuff on and then if I don't like it I return it (I pay the returned shipping by the way and probably shipping to me) they say well maybe our site is not for you and we will no longer do business with you. I mean seriously?!

Good luck folks, good stuff, just don't return more then 20% of your stuff!

Verified purchase

I am very disappoint with my purchase. I placed an online order with Sierra for the first time and will never shop with them again. I order a size pair of CROCS and the right shoe was smaller then the left shoe, both shoes are marked size 9, but they fit different. The left shoe fits fine and is roomy, the right shoe is fitted and my foot is hanging slightly off the shoe. I they are uncomfortable to walk in. I've had them for less then a week and cannot return them because they've been worn. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

Tip for consumers:
Do not buy from Sierra's. They sell irregular/defective items.

Not much more to say than what everyone else has expressed about what happened to Sierra trading post. It's a shame it keeps the name to remind everyone who use to love the place to now stop shopping there.

I shopped at the old STP for many years. Now, I can't find anything I want anymore. It used to be chock-full of "real" outdoor gear, arcteryx jackets, rab, etc.

Now, rugs and dog accessories have taken over. The clothing items are more "urban", and the big outdoors brands are slowly fading. You are more likely to find office wear than hiking wear. It's sad.:(

I honestly can't find one good thing to buy anymore, especially for men. Yeah, there are six god awful Arcteryx shirts left for women, in soccer mom colors and cuts.

I just ordered a pair of sandals (Chaco) from Sierra and paid $9.95 for shipping them to me. It took longer for them to get to me than I thought it was supposed to take. Then, when I tried the sandals on they were extremely heavy and uncomfortable. So I decided to return them. I went to their website and was told I would have to pay an additional $6.95 to return these after I had paid $9.95 to ship them to me. That's almost $17 just to try on these sandals. I chatted with their customer service and told them of my dissatisfaction. They basically said too bad and it didn't matter because that is their policy. To me charging that much for shipping to and from is unacceptable. I won't be returning anymore for their products. I won't be recommending their company either.

I have been a loyal STP customer for many years and have consistently received their sale emails with 20% - 25% emails since the start. I probably buy from STP 2 - 3X per year. In mid-August, Hubby went to their brick & mortar store and made a purchase. Ever since, I stopped receiving their deal flyer. When I contacted them, I was told that I am no longer on their deal flyer mailing list since I had not shopped with their for over 6 mo. They said they'll look into it but nothing. What? We just bought from their brick & mortar store and somehow we are pulled off the list for buying at their brick & mortar store? Absolutely ridiculous! I agree with other reviewers that the customer service at STP has gone way down since TJMaxx purchased it. I will be another customer leaving this formerly great retailer.

This site has great outdoor gear for very reasonable prices. I mostly use this site for camping and hiking. They also have supplies for snow sports, fishing, biking, and more. It is just a great site for outdoor sports gear. I got a great tent, so far it seems very durable and sturdy. I also bought some hiking boots, which are very comfortable. Their items are very good quality.

I too have spent_lots_ here over the years. Everything from ski gear to suits and fishing gear. Selection is now poor, pricing is no longer compelling... frankly it's just no longer a place to shop. Bummed that this once really useful store is now effectively not worth looking at when shopping.

I love your store. Great stuff at value pricing. If you go in on a lark and find something it is optimal. Ordering is another matter. I ordered a tent from China that came ten days before the sleeping bag I got from Sierra. I gues Wyoming is farther than China. It seems to take three weeks or more. A week to ship and then... who knows. I would love to find an alternative to amazon in every segment. I do not th ink you are there yet. You do not post where the product is in the cycle. I am like a child I love watchting my treasure arrive. Hope you find a way to improvement. This to max conglomeration concept is big enough to make a difference if it can get better. I just bought a marmot jacket for my xl wife at camp saver because I just don't believe you can deliver before Christmas. It is the 29 th of November. Pick it up in satisfaction and grow. Hopeful. Good luck

I made a purchase from them and they forgot to include one of the items in the package. I called them in the morning and a representative named "Patty" assured me that she will refund me. I waited a few hours and no email of a refund came to me. This time I did a live chat and spoke to "Alexandria." She said that no refund was ever processed and that she will do it. Why did the first rep lie to me about a refund? I don't know. So Alexandria processes the refund and for the inconvenience she said i will get emailed a $20 gift card for future use. I was happy until i checked my emails and of course what do I see? I got the refund for my item but no gift card emailed to me. Why do these reps lie so much to customers? Never shopping with them again because they are all liars!

I too have noticed a drop off in the last few years with STP being sold to TJX. I usually buy some hunting gear from them. So today I was checking to see if I could find any good deals. They had 67 total items listed in the hunting gear section... 67! It used to be hundreds. Not even any hunting boots. I don't get the deal flyers via email even though I have asked over and over and then they aren't what they used to be. STP should have never been sold to TJX. Just another corporate monster.
