I would never buy another ham from this company after purchasing hams for 25+ years. Reason being we purchased a ham for Christmas last year and received 2 additional hams as gifts. Thus the two hams gifted were refrigerated for use in future. After 2 months we opened the first gift ham and the ham was no good. When you took bite of the ham your mouth would foam up. I called Smithfield and they said not their problem and they would not stand behind their product. After supporting them for years... we can say we will never buy another item from them. Edwards Hams stands behind their products!

On Dec. 9, Ordered 5 hams for our 5 son's Christmas dinners. Only one received their ham and a month later still no hams! Calling the company was a customers worst nightmare, complete run around, then the so-called in charge Mr. McDonald finally took my call and assured me, two days after Christmas the problem would be rectified and a discount would be applied and hams shipped. It's now Jan. 6 and still no hams, no discount and I finally left a message demanding my money be returned. Never, ever would I recommend Smithfield Marketplace and wonder how they remain in business after my $350 fiasco.
Smithfield Marketplace.
First we went online to order a ham 80.00$ "What 80.00". Yes we fell for it. We thought are were going to get this wonderful ham for X MAS and really splurge. The picture makes it look huge and wonderful. What came was a cantolope sized ham to feed 12 people. This won't serve 4 people. So I called customer service 7 times only to get hung up on. After finally getting through they told me no returns, refunds, credit nothing.
Understand there modo is to exceed expectations.
Am I angry and upset yes I am.
What is the point of customer service. There is none.
Modo of the story is be careful what you spend 80.00 on.
I should have gone through Amazon. They would have credited my account with an apology.
Tip for consumers:
There return policy and a real picture of what you are buying.

I went to Giant and purchased a ham that will feed 12!
I purshased a smithfield half ham < hardwood smoked, in november, put in deep freezer and just now baked for easter. THe date was use by January 15 or freeze. The ham had a what I call a old porky taste, it was terrible! I've had much better generic store brand!
For Christmas this year my wife wanted to try an uncooked ham. We have had Smithfield hams that are spiral cut and cooked and have always been really pleased with them. When our local Harmons Grocery store had their Country uncooked ham she was really excited to try one.
We followed the directions on the ham and on Smithfields website. Soaked it in water 36 hours changing it every 4 hours. Smithfield said this would reduce the salty taste of the ham. We cooled it like they recommended on their site. When it was finished we may as well have poured salt into a bowl and eaten it. I emailed Smithfield asking if I did anything wrong but they wont answer my email. When I talked to the store I purchased it from the butcher told me he had had numerous complaints just like mine. Based on the ham and lack of customer follow up Ill be buying another brand in the future. Beware of Smithfields Country Hams if you dont love salt.
Ordered a ham for Easter dinner. It was full of fat and only weighed 2lbs. Description they gave was it weighed 3-4lbs. And feeds 8-12 people. By the time I cut the fat off would be lucky to feed 2! Will not be using for my Easter dinner! This ham was very expensive so I thought I was getting a good product. Really sad that they do business this way. Wish I had looked up reviews be fore ordering. Never again will they take my hard earned money! Shame on them!
I ordered a ham for shipment on Wed. 12/18 and delivery on Saturday 12/21. On Monday 12/23, when I inquired about my order and asked for tracking information I was sent an email blaming their "Shipper" was behind and had shipped a bunch of orders on Friday and Saturday, so I should be receiving it. I was suspicious because they never gave me a shipping confirmation and sure enough, the ham never arrived. I sent an email on Christmas Day canceling my order and demanding a refund. Got a call on Thursday, the day after Christmas to tell me they were sorry and would credit my account. They never should have charged the card because the never shipped the ham. I strongly recommend you contact Edwards or another more reliable merchant.
I wish there was negative star review category b/c Smithfield would earn triple negative. I called on my order 12/22 as it diid not arrive on 12/19 as requested. Molly from customer service said it left the warehouse on Wed, Dec 20 and "should" arrive by Christmas. She could not give me a shipping tracking number b/c she said there was such a back log that UPS didn't give her one. Hmmmm, that's suspicious never heard of that. She said I was not the only customer who has called as they have had a backlog filling orders (like that would make it better?) I told her to cancel my order b/c I would buy a ham from local grocery store since Christmas was three days away. Today, Dec 30, I got an email from UPS giving me a tracking order for my delivery from Smithfield Marketplace. I will will be refusing the order which never got canceled and will make a complaint to the attorney general in Virginia where they are headquartered.
My hams have not been delivered and the mailbox is full so you can't even leave a message! I would think you would have someone to handle problems on a weekend before Christmas when Monday is Christmas EVE! I will be calling on Monday and if no one is there I will not be a very happy person.
The Henry Gray Party Ham looked so perfect and everyone couldn't wait to eat it. Unfortunately, it was SO
EXTREMELY SALTY that no one could. It had to be thrown in the trash. This was a major investment and the primary source of protein for the meal. I was so embarrassed! I've tried to reach customer service, with no response yet. I also did an online review, which they haven't posted. NEVER AGAIN will I use them for anything. I wish I had seen these reviews before I made my purchase.
Ordered the STEAMSHIP Ham on sale for Easter, paid $100 dollars for this ham. Got it on Wednesday last week. Went to cook it early Sunday morning the tag on it said use or freeze by April 5th 2020. My wife would not cook it, we went to Honeybaked last minute spent $127 on a ham to replace it. Ended up throwing the Smithfield out of date product in the trash, no place to keep it.
So talk to customer service they say yeah all are special are out of date products, asked her to tell me where they tell you that. Also they would have picked it up and refunded me, but now I am screwed, also make sure you do not reply to them on your order confirmation. There is a little place in small letters that tell you not to reply my bad.
So please can some one tell me who in the world of commerce sells people out of date Ham on Easter and thinks oh boy this is a great marketing idea. They should say up front if you order this IT MAY OR MAY NOT BE EDIBLE... STAY AWAY WHAT A JOKE OF A COMPANY...
I have purchased Country hams before from this company and been very satisfied. This year our Christmas dinner was ruined by the salty toughness of this ham.
I bought a ham for Christmas that was very fatty and had a lot of gristle was very disappointed and would not buy it again
Two weeks ago I placed an order for a Carando quarter spiral ham for Easter, and - at the suggestion of the Smithfield customer service rep - arranged to have it shipped the Monday prior to Easter with arrival Wednesday. (I proactively ordered online because we are quarantined during the pandemic and have had trouble getting meat deliveries from local grocers.) I received no notice of shipment, and also noticed online that the item I'd ordered was now out of stock, so on Tuesday (today) I called to confirm shipment. Sure enough, the ham hadn't shipped, it was out of stock, and I hadn't been notified. My expectation was that, having proactively placed an order for a specific ship date, the ham would have been reserved and earmarked for shipment, but no. Smithfield offered me a full ham at the same price, but it wasn't the Carando brand and their own brand gets horrible reviews for saltiness. I declined, asked for a refund, and also asked for an email confirmation of the cancellation. I was told that it wasn't possible to get email confirmation, but that I could call back to confirm. No need; I'll be putting a hold on the credit-card charge which, by the way, was processed two weeks ago! I was also told that there was no way for me to file a formal complaint to the company; thus this review and others that I'll be posting everywhere. Had I not called today to follow up, my order would have been ignored and I assume I would have lost the money charged two weeks ago. And because of the quarantine I have no way to get meat for Easter. I will NEVER do business with this company again, and neither should you! I should have heeded the horror stories of others from the get-go.
