Last week I purchased a Orange Sound Smith (Telecaster Style)electric guitar from Shannon. Not only was she super helpful, but also easy to contact to answer any questions I had. The guitar was gorgeous. So I purchased and played it at home for a couple days and loved it! But, I was stuck between the red guitar and the orange. I contacted her and the next day got a full refund no hassle at all, only because I decided I wanted the red. So now I just have to wait patiently for it to finish being built and I will 100 % purchase again. Im very pleased with Sound Smith. And I love supporting local business that do right by thier customers. Thanks guys.
I purchased a Sound Smith archtop tenor ukulele and was very disappointed in both the setup and the quality of pickup installed. The instrument arrived not set up, and Soundsmith only offered a short YouTube video, suggesting I could do it myself. I have set up instruments before and had the bridge properly set, but the intonation was off on the first and second frets by approximately 10 cents, even though it was accurate in the open position and 12th fret. In addition, the only setting that did not produce a hum on the single coil pickup as with the Tone knob in the minimum position. Once moved even a little bit the pickup hummed and it got progressively worse as the tone knob was advanced. When I returned the instrument, Sound Smith owner Shannon insisted that humming is perfectly normal for a pickup, and that the setup was perfect. She charged me for both directions of shipping (although it was supposed to be free shipping, according to the ad) and threatened to charge an additional 10% restocking fee, which she said would be more than the shipping. The shipping was almost $30 so I'm not sure how that pencils out on an instrument that was $267. Since I live in Oregon, I would have gladly patronized their store in Bend had they simply returned the instrument rather than insist that it was perfect when it was clearly not. Buyer beware.

I was probably one of the 'annoying' customers... asking a lot of questions and not being decisive. But, the 'Smiths' were incredibly helpful and gracious, and eventually helped me make the right decision. It's a rarity these days to get such a high level of customer service -- especially when combined with really low prices -- but Sound Smith delivered in spades. You can tell they are driven by a real passion for making music.
I purposely chose to title this review "customer care" and not "customer service" because there is a distinct difference. Service indicates you're getting your needs met. Care indicates your expectations are exceeded. Shannon certainly cares about taking care of her customers - fair prices, quick shipping, always responsive, and certainly reliable. There's something to be said about dealing with local shops if at all possible. Thanks!
Every order that I have placed, big or small, gets the same personal attention. Great turnaround, price and attention to detail. It is a pleasure dealing with Sound Smith and look forward to doing business with them in the future.
I got a Solid Mahogany Ukulele. It it so beautiful! Great action on the frets, which makes doing chords so much easier to do. The sound is beautiful. I perform on the streets of my town and it's nice and loud to be heard. You people are good at making an instrument. I recommend them to anyone.
The customer service and assistance during ordering of "Sound Smith" products is excellent. I'll give another star once the arrival of my shipment lands here and everything shows up in good condition, looking as awesome as in the photo's. Thank you!
What a pleasure to deal with honest, caring merchants! Shannon was so helpful in choosing an item, sending photos for choices and explaining everything. Also, she helped expedite the shipping so I could receive it in time to take it with me on vacation. I would give 10 stars if I could. This company is top notch! And so are their products! I am sooo happy!
I can't recommend Sound Smith enough. Shannon is a fantastic entrepreneur with a huge passion for craft and aesthetic. I've been blown away by everything I've seen, from the ukuleles, bass ukuleles, straps, and picks. This is definitely a local business to support, and to keep your eye on as they inevitably grow into and throughout Central Oregon and beyond.
My quilted ash tenor arrived late yesterday, becoming number 5 in my little uke family. It is beautiful, comfortable, easy to tune, sounds good, a little quieter than I expected. But... the setup is awesome. I'm a beginner, just started playing mid-July, and this beautiful uke is the easiest to play. I can finally play a few barre chords. Thank you, Shannon.
The entire experience was awesome. I contacted Shannon Smith via the instant communication app on the website to inquire about the instrument. After a small discussion I decided to purchase the instrument.
The payment process was quick and easy And I received confirmation of shipment the next day. The tracking experience was extremely fluid and efficient.
The product arrived as promised and we were very pleased with the quality of the instrument.
Thank you, Shannon and everyone at Sound Smith!
This is my second Sound Smith Uke. I firstly bought a Resonator Tenor and have just received a spruce top Tenor. They both sound beautiful and represent great value for money. Wombat, who is the gun player in our Uke group has given the Resonator the thumbs-up, a really good endorsement I though. I am very happy with the service to Australia. Well done Sound Smith.
Ordered my ebony tenor over the weekend and it was shipped out Monday morning. I received it in a remote part of Texas on Saturday - quicker than I expected!
Shannon was great help, answering my questions before my purchase. I wanted a low G, but they were too busy to make the switch on it, so she included a set of strings for me to use.
Great customer service - my 2nd Sound Smith and it's the only place I will buy a uke!
I am very happy with the Banjo Uke and with the service! I did have a small glitch when ordering with a coupon code but got that figured out. I sent them an Email and they were responsive when I let them know about the glitch. No real complaints about ordering. Sound Smith shipped it very soon after I ordered it and it arrived faster than USPS predicted. I have only had the Banjo Uke for a little while but I really like it. It sounds and plays great. The only issue I have noticed is some frets could have been cleaned up more when it was set up. However, the action is very nice. It is a little heavy but should be expected with a wood, closed-back banjo head. It is also very loud, which I like. I will review this further after having a some time to play it.
I am so very happy with my purchase (Reso Uke) from Soundsmith, they are really top notch, customer care was great... After buying a different brand reso Uke from a different retailer, it shipped with a chipped bridge and was poorly set up, and returning it was a huge hassle! Shannon had this one set up properly by their luthier and it was perfect, as was her communication throughout... I will be back to buy from them for sure!
This electric jazz tenor is my second Sound Smith purchase. It played great right out of the box as did the resonator uke I purchased a year ago. These ukes are a gift to myself when I come in off the road from Broadway tours. The uke with the purple hat is signed by Jimmy Buffett when I was on the first national tour of Escape To Margaritaville.
I'm having great fun playing this through effects pedals and an amp but it also sounds lovely un-plugged. I also have a Fender Mustang headphone amp for late night practicing and exploring effects.
The frets are finished nicely and the neck/action is very playable. The overall body is also finished nicely.
The tuning machines are smooth and seem to be doing their job.
The output jack collar needed tightening against the body and the barrel seems very snug. I'm hoping with use it will become smoother.
Otherwise, it looks like I've purchased another fine instrument from Sound Smith
I knew what I wanted, but I viewed the other instruments first, I wanted them all, especially the resonating Ukulele. All the instruments were attractive and had a personal touch. I found harmonicas and ordered two, good price and I am looking forward to trying them out. I did wonder if you are going to carry any other keys.
This is my second purchase from Soundsmith. The finish on this arch top is beautiful and it sounds great. So loud with the steel strings and a great tone. Shannon is great to work with and delivered my new uke the day I bought it.
Great price on a beginner package. I loved shopping online but supporting a small, local company. And it was hand delivered in Bend. Looking forward to sharing with my kid for Christmas.
Red Ukelele the neck was cracked ie: damage in shipping. They credit me back and told to keep it. So bought another Uke with a harmonica. 2 day free shipping. Keep up the good work Shannon..

Kudos to Shannon for her patience in working with me as I considered a purchase. I also love their selection of beautiful ukuleles. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sound Smith!
I ordered the Glorifier pedal to help my Martin D-15 Acoustic Electric. Sound Smith got everything shipped out quickly and I look forward to seeing how it will spice up my sound.
Really great people to work with. Emailed directly with the owner Shannon. Good solid instruments for a very good price.
