Square needs to be SHUT DOWN. They hold your funds for no reason for MONTHS, sometimes you even lose them! They close accounts randomly and block your phone number from calling and talking to support. Refuse to identify your identity because if the system says so then that's how it goes. These ppl are robots who can't even use their brain to keep you as a customer. Their responses consist of "it was the system so I don't know." You have to call from different numbers because the system blocks you for no reason, they don't respond to any emails. They lie that you'll get your funds but it isn't true. They will even hold petty $500 for over 90 days and then block you from calling them. Its embarrassing, I don't understand how they're operating and still in business! Whoever owns this should be ASHAMED. DO better, care about your customers, upgrade your system and hire and train better.
Other business owners thar I know have also gotten their account randomly shut down and square kept thousands of dollars that do not belong to them. Leaving the business owner out of the funds and with a close account not being able to run transactions. The worst part is they have no reason or excuse when you call to ask why? Money that other people worked HARD for. SQUARE is running an illegal business. They're scamming hard working small business owners and getting away with it. SHUT THESE SCAMMERS DOWN. They do not even allow you to deactivate your account. It is truly mind blowing that this place is operating still.

Square is a data collector and will hold your funds hostage
My previous review was disputed and removed since were were unwilling to provide all our account data to validate. We refused as this would open our company to more restriction and the threat of a bad review retaliation.
Update 3/023. We closed the square account since they would allow transactions until they decided they wanted 2 years of tax returns and bank statements. They will not release funds until such private information is provided. No other merchant asks for this Information. They will hold your funds until provided, so we closed.
When attempting to access our statements for accounting we were denied access until the information requested was given. We had already moved on and still, they hold access over the customer's head so they can collect and sell your data. This company is a scam. It's been 5 business days and are getting the run around regarding our statements.
I've used merchant services for over 15 years, from start ups to 15 year old businesses and none have required this personal information. Shame on you square!
Stripe does not have any of these hassles.
Terrible customer service. We are a small company operating our site https://www.lightningwear.com.
We tried square for merchant credit card processing after using paypal for the past 20 years. Started out easy and painless. Then we began processing transactions. Immediately they started flagging our reputable and repeat customers payments as fraud. It seems as if they wanted to just hold the money our customers paid for our product. They suggested that the transaction was fraud and after three days of asking for additional supporting information, they recommended that we refund our customer. The refund would take another 7-10 days. This order was for an honest customer. There was no explanation of the fraud claims. We provided documents showing that they were a repeat buyer and reputable school. No effort was made on Square's part to assist. The call center sounded like an overseas scam. Do not waste your time or effort with this company. An investigation needs to be done on the mishandling and hold of our funds.
I've run into poor website support with other companies but Square's website support is really poor. The representatives are not well trained and often create arguments because they don't understand the problem. The supervisors have only slightly more training, won't get on the call and insist on pushing incorrect "solutions." Major parts of the system are buggy.
E.g., to connect to Google Console, Square wants the verification code to be an HTML meta tag. However, Google Console no longer provides verification via the HTML meta tag. Of course, the users aren't allow to add TXT or CNAME records to the system because we're too stupid.
Another problem is the header block on the mobile version has a bug that duplicates the image in the main banner rather than becoming transparent. (Transparent setting was turned on.) When customer support was called on this issue, we were told to resize the image. Of course, that didn't work. The issue was submitted to Square via the sales rep. Nothing has been done.
We've run into numerous problems over the past 8 months and the support seems to be getting worse.
They offer $1000 in fee's for referring a friend and them signing up. They didn't do it! I called they kept saying they did but they couldn't prove it. I said it doesn't say you did it on my side.
They have useless customer service. Convoluted reporting and predatory policies. I regret ever having used them.
Do not use square. I just had a $2,000 transaction held, put under review and blatantly told to return because it was fraudulent without any insight as to why or how it was. Not only did they do this - they accused the customer of theft and had me portraying them in the same regard when in reality it is and was square the entire time! They pick and choose at will what transactions they want to review or little or no basis at all. They will seize your account and money and completely prevent you from using your business. Absolutely a huge rip off and scam and couldn't say one good thing about the company. Do not use them.
Square has been holding a transaction of 90 +. 10= 100$ of mine for almost a week now. It's unbelievable in 2023, if you want to cancel a transaction with this company you can't without unnecessary paper work being uploaded. They're holding my money like it's theirs. I will never deal wit this shiesty company again. Release my funds going on day four now.
I am the owner of a chimney company customer made a payment via MasterCard of $1,075 after submitting the transaction to square the same night square debited my account for $1,075 with no explanation it's been a month and a half I still have not received any kind of explanation and then after contacting them numerous times they claim they do not have any kind of record that they withdrew the money from my account the only proof I have is my bank statement which clearly states square withdrawal 1075 I have been on phone with square 6 or 7 times they did nothing but take me in circles I have no disputes or chargebacks from any customers whatsoever. Their customer service is very unprofessional choreographed and scripted I would not recommend this company to anyone
Do NOT open a Square debit card, fraudulent charges are not resolved, no solutions are found and small businesses are left to suffer the damages of the money taken out of your account. Customer service forces you into a circle that goes nowhere, with no answers or solutions found. The fraudulent charges get denied when you dispute them. Square freezes your funds. DO NOT use Square. This has caused irreversible damage to my business, I deeply regret ever using Square. My funds have been held without any support or explanations. I am horrified by my experience, I do not recommend anyone leaves their money with Square. They have RIDICULOUS fees and percentages taken out of your sales, they make their undeserved money but do not protect yours. You are better off using ANY other company. This is good for the consumer but horrible for the merchant. Avoid at all cost. I'm disgusted by my experience and the money I have lost because of Square's sheer negligence.
Have been using Square POS for over 10 years with no issues until they started issuing refunds to customers that were never requested. After two months of their engineers "working on my case" they still haven't figured out what the problem is, they have not compensated me for the unauthorized refunds, have not contacted me back every time I call as they claim they would and my request to speak to a supervisor was rejected. And automatic refunds are still being issued. UNBELIEVABLE. I will be closing my account and getting another POS.
Called for a refund because one of their Vendors, Divine Powers did not deliver on their Service...instead of this cancelling the charge and refunding my money, they transferred the call to my bank...my bank told me since the charge was 'pending' and they couldn't do anything until they released the hold...just a scam...end of story
I was a Weebly customer for many years. I had multiple websites with Weebly. If I ever had a problem, I could just contact Weebly and they would walk me through this ON THE PHONE! You cannot talk to anyone from square UNLESS you pay for this feature. I forgot my login info for one account and I waited almost and hour for help. In that time, I figured it out myself. The "support" people kept coming and going, leaving me hanging and passed me from one to another. That is poor customer service and has got me leaving this platform.
Yesterday, I wanted to show a friend how easy Weebly was to use to create a webpage. I could not figure out what Square had done to the site. We spent hours and realized that we had no interest in their cookie cutter site and moved to CANVA. Square was very limited and hard to figure out, compared to Weebly. I am migrating my sites out of there. I will not use it or recommend it. They should have stuck to what they knew and left Weebly alone. It was amazing and now it is unusable and limited.
I just bought their $150 stand POS for my acupuncture clinic. Square deactivated my account without giving me a reason. I have not received any email notification. Contact their support team is all AI no human. I have to ask their sales number and get answered. The sales said 1 business day to find someone to help me but 3 days passed still no answer. I also shot them emails for support and still no reply. I tried to file a complain using their LINK: *******@fcac-acfc.gc.ca and the Email bounced back/message blocked. The just hold your money and there is no way you can ask anyone to solved it.
I first started using Square earlier this year. They deactivated my account without explanation. I was advised that I violated the terms and conditions but they refused to advise which terms I violated. I was told once an account is deactivated, they will not re activate it. The help section on squareup.com advised to create a new account. I created a new account with my personal email address. Set up the account, linked my bamk account, connected the hardware and was advised that I could now accept payments. On Nov 26, I completed a purchase for $30 at a craft show I was a vendor in. I received no emails stating that more information was required. On Dec 21, I completed 4 transactions at another show I was a vendor in. Still received no notice that info was required. On Dec 29, after searching extensively for an explanation as to why my funds weren't being transferred, I discovered that they required paperwork. I sent my business license, bank account statements and receipt from the first transaction. I also sent an explanation as to who the customer was and what she had purchased. Received promotional emails from square following this submission but nothing further. Jan 17, I contacted customer service and was advised that they sent an email on Dec 30 (which I did not receive) stating that my account was deactivated. The only explanation is that they cannot support my needs based on the information provided. I requested a proper explanation as that explanation is not sufficient. They refused to provide any further explanation. Only advised that they will not and cannot re activate my account. I have to wait until 2 business days after March 2 to obtain my funds. They will not refund me the cost of my hardware because it has been over 30 days since I purchased it. This whole experience has been extremely painful and detrimental to small businesses like my own. I cannot and will never recommend square to anyone
They ARE a scam company that works with other scam companies to bilk you out of your money. I lost $460 by placing an order with another company that required Venmo payment. That company said they never got the money and I got an e-mail from Venmo saying they paid square.com but they deny getting the money.
They accepted a payment from my client for $4300. They sent 2 small deposits to my business account to verify the account and after my account was verified they sent me am email telling me they deactivated my account. I tried to call them many many times and they said they didnt know what was going on. Just give it a few more days and I will receive my money. When I call a few days later they said it was too late and I hace to wait 90 to 120 days cause my account was deactivated. My employees are sewing me cause I have a contract to pay them in 30 days. I spoke to many agents in customer service and they all say they can't do anything about it. Use ANY OTHER way to get pay but Square. They are thieves and there is nothing you can do about it. Also they charged me $120 already from the deposit. DO NOT USE THEM!
My Weebly website was hacked and since Square now owns Weebly they offer tech support. However, after 4 days of texting back and forth they have still not fixed the infected website or offered any solutions. They no longer even reply to my repeated requests.
Three days later a fantastic man by the name of Luis called me and said that the problem was a corrupted theme. He reinstalled the theme and all malicious hijacker code disappeared. Many thanks, Luis! However, Square should make it easer to contact a live person. I had spend hours sending texts back and forth and got disconnected a few times in the process.
I used their app and payment service for my part time business. The sent me a questionnaire after my customer paid. I submitted the information including my registration with my state and invoices I created on THEIR APP! Told me based on my answers they couldn't support me and HOLDING MY PAYMENTS FOR 90 DAYS! Ridiculous! Their support team was worthless in resolving
I have had square for a long time now. I am a small company and I do not use this that much anymore because I have issues all the time. I have had my deposits frozen multiple times and just tried to deposit a check by mobile deposit. I kept getting an error code, I called and could not be given a reason why no one knew. So it is now in the engineering department and said I will hear back 3-5 business days, so who knows if I will get that money or if I have to go through the whole process again. I have never had so many issues trying to get my money from jobs that I do, being small I depend on my deposits for the jobs that I am on.This will be the last time I use them. I do not recommend Square to any business big or especially small.
Answer: Square is a legit company, just a deeply unethical one that will leave you out to dry if they can get away with it. And they can get away with it.
Answer: No, I can't, because they're a garbage company that can't verify my identity, even with my SSN and repeated support requests, and refuses to even look at my ID. I would love to share a success story, too bad they won't let me have one.
