“Good people!”

Richard M.
8/13/20

This site has good people around all day every day who actually answer you unlike some crisis lines. No waiting on hold when you can go to their chat room. I joined a couple years ago and go back when I feel bad and people still know me.

Top Critical Review

“I would not recommend this site to anyone.”

When I first joined it was okay. Later on, I got bullied on that site and even off the site. The bullying leads me to have to change my phone number and stop the harassment. I did meet one very wonderful person from there and we are still great friends but aside from them, I am sorry I ever joined that place. It did not help me. In reality, it made me very suicidal and is a toxic environment.

Be careful who you trust. Not everyone who says they are your friend is.

There were some helpful and reassuring posters, when I first joined. Someone recommended it to me, but there was one particular person (who I don't want to name to protect my privacy) that I had a problem with. That person said things that I don't think is helpful for people in crisis. I left the forum, and couldn't be happier. Other places in my life been more helpful for me. My life has significantly improved and is overall good now. I don't see myself posting on that forum again.

If you had a negative experience here, you're not alone. It may be very helpful for others, because we are all different.

Don't let the name scare you. This is not a pro-suicide forum, and most members are not actively suicidal. It's a great place for support for depression, anxiety and other mental disorders (and a lot of members are dealing with physical issues as well) and has good chat rooms. Definitely if you're having suicidal ideation, there are lots of people to talk to about it. If you're in a crisis and think you may harm yourself, it's still best to call a crisis line or go to the ER.

The fact that this is not a major charity and is not centrally controlled means that it does have helpful useful resources and comment, which Samaritans cant provide. Also an enormous lot of comments about a wealth of subjects

This is a forum so it will work for some people and not be great for other people, but I found this site welcoming and sincere. The live chat is fantastic. You are going to get all kinds of responses from all kinds of people so if you just want to be told the things you want to hear it probably isn't the place for you. If you want real people with real problems who know how you feel and want to welcome you into a community, go and sign up. Its rough round the edges because all the people there have problems but it is a great site and has very safe moderation.

I came to suicideforum when I was at my lowest point n the people there made me feel better. No place is perfect but for the most part everyone is nice n cares about each other. The mods are ok n treat u fair. I still go back when I feel bad.

I write this to show my heartfelt appreciation at those kind people there on SF. In my opinion the cleanest & safest place on the internet that i've ever find, despite being depressive sometimes: but we have to keep in mind it's a peer support group, people suffer with their own issues but there support each other through hard times. We have to validate other's pain, that's the key to feel comfortable on everywhere like that. Almost feel free to talk about the issues cannot be talked about elsewhere. It's a pro-life peer support forum: i've been to pro-choice sites as well and saw their opinion on pro-lifers... but basically it's different: It's not occupied by those who don't understand how it feels to be suicidal and hold that rigid opinion of life being precious. It's simply being more careful and no method discussion. Worth to mention, i was 15 when i joined. The admin tried to protect me from doing immature things as a vulnerable teen, it's responsible.
The rule of life is harsh but real. If you got one thing done wrong, people won't let it go, even you did a lot of good things.
I'm full of appreciation of this site. Gonna sum up: People there are trying to live, despite it's hard fight with suicidal thoughts, and they support each other in this tough fight.
If it doesn't help you, like getting annoyed by hugs emojis, then take a leave and find better support. I wish you find peace in a way if you suffer so much. It does help me, and i suppose it's gonna help more. Don't block that chance for them to see the hope.

Tip for consumers:
Validate other's pain. I know it's hard if you are suffering as well. Things goes mutual though. Respect other members and remember we are all suffering in some way. If it's an emergency, peer support is not what you need at that moment. And feel free to share your thoughts.

When I first joined that site, the members were all wonderful, supportive and helpful. I made some friends there, met a few people face-to-face who remain friends. I even had a growing relationship with another member who was distant but we were working on the logistics of meeting.

But when the site owner takes a dislike to you, she and her sidekick will go to any lengths to insult you, to interfere with you, to hurt you. And if you say anything to them about it, they belittle you, talk about you with other people and pretty much destroy any progress that you may have made.

In my case, The forum owner and her nasty little sidekick went in and red the personal communication between the lady that I mentioned above and I, then they went to her behind my back and completely poisoned the relationship that she and I had been growing. I was and am completely devastated over that and when I said something to the forum owner, both she and her little sidekick told me that they can do anything they want to because it's their forum, they own it, and they will do what they want. They went on to say that my complaints meant nothing to them because first they would have to actually care about me which they did not.

The site can be very helpful but it can also be very destructive.

This site made my depression worse. They allow people to write about manipulating people by threatening suicide if they don't get what they want. I am being harassed by this person and have asked to have my account deleted but they refuse! Beware of any site that doesn't allow you to delete your account. They aren't trustworthy and will manipulate and use you for money.
Well, now they've blocked me from commenting or replying to the nasty messages from the mods and other members. Completely banned now, but unable to even log out! My messages keep stacking up, but I can't access them! Sites like this don't like to be exposed! Great way for a forum like this to behave! Think about it folks and do some research. Goggle the question: Why do certain websites not allow you to delete your account? The answer is the same on every site that addresses this: They make money!

I think it's very important to have a site to help those struggling with suicidal thoughts to great through it. It's a nice group of people with good resources.

I had the pleasure of receiving a less than supportive reply on my thread from the site owner. I am dealing with an abusive husband, and she started shaming and victim blaming me. Another staff member came on the thread, was very hurtful towards me and shamed me as well. When I filed a complaint, the site owner became extremely abusive towards me and neither staff member would take ownership of their offensive behavior towards me. She even accused me of being the abuser in my relationship when I'm the abuse victim! And the staff member who was very rude to me had said: "I wouldn't want to be with you with THAT attitude!" When I am standing up to abuse from my husband and am verbally fighting back! WTF? What kind of "support" is this? It's a suicide prevention site, and these comments and treatment practically made me suicidal! I went there for help with my abusive marriage, not to become more of a victim to more abuse and victim shaming and blaming! This kind of thing could send someone into a mental health downward spiral! Jesus. WARNING: do NOT join this site if you want improved mental health!
