It's like ebay but better because it's in China, so think "cheap" "huge", and "variety". Watch out for the knock-offs. The payment platform is a bit complicated but very safe (even overzealous: you have to double confirm your card details tons of times).

Only tried to buy from Taobao overseas in last 5 months. Lost my parcel at very first shipping. Then 4 times air freight, lost at last time. So 40% chance to lost the parcel, taken months to chase the refund.

I bought two Oakley Glasses from this Site From two different Stores.
And the i got two fake Glasses.
It was a hustle before the site refunded the money.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid any Chinese store only buy from flagship store of the brand itself.

Be honest, tons of communication issues came with language problem. The thing is, if you purchased something from TAOBAO, seller can not guarantee your shipping cost will be the same as domestic rates in China. Of course you have to pay extra shipping for the orders that going to overseas. Because including package, item weight can not be exact same as item description. Pay by Paypal will much easier and faster to get your refund once you returned items or cancel the transactions. I purchased 10 pcs of corner guard from ebuy7. They have very good customer service and fast reaction to answer your questions on Wechat app.

Taobao is a great website if you buy in mainland China and get it there, although once I got sent the wrong size shirt but they gave me 2 yuan as an apology, (this was when I was in China) using taobao is probably not very helpful if you live overseas... Its probably better to get relatives or friends to buy it in China and give it to you the next time you visit them

All the online stores of this type are quite the same - its always a matter of chance whether you get your item or not. Ofcourse you get what you ordered most of the time but as for my personal experience - its 90/10, sometimes something happens and you get nothing. Unfortunately disputes are not the sure way to get your money back..

I bought this land monocular from this Tababo in November 2030, which claimed that they developed the instrument with Johns Hopkins University in July 2020. This is a throughaway garbage. The monocular looks nice from outside but although it enlarges distant objects the focus in non existent so what you see is just a big blob.
I can see a car parked about 100 feet away but cannot read the license plate but ehich I could do with a cheap binoculars.
I paid US $ 59 for this garbage. Stay away from this falsely advertised product.

Really shifty products such as shop name robot Go. They will give u promise u ridiculous features and a 5 year exchange warranty and lifetime repair warranty. Product arrives 1 month late with missing accessories. Another 1 month for accessories. Then u will find out item is completely different from advertised1000 man faulty battery instead of *******mah battery. Item completely damaged and faulty. When u approach seller they will claim that battery problem I man made. Not only is exchange warranty not available, repair warranty is also not available. They will beg u to bear with item and keep it. No refund exchange or repair nothjng taobao platform will ignore ur concerns. And few hundred dollars gone. That's taobao for u.

Carefully, if you buy the product workbook is only in chinese lenguage. If you ask about this don't undestand and no solutions.
Without this is impossible to connect/programming the product (solar water heater controller).
Poor service

THIS is the eBay killer. I am based in China and use this website for almost everything... from buying groceries to top-up codes for my mobile phones. It's incredibly safe, fast, and the vendors on this site have an internal system (called AliWangWang) for customer service. Again, it's super safe... but YOU NEED TO SPEAK CHINESE or no chances to use it. Taobao also offers a "trusted" platform for business called Tmall.com, which is something like a walled Taobao for 100% legit businesses. For example I constantly buy a lot of shoes from this shop on Tmall called Tstage.cn and through AliWangWang I can ask details about styles and sizes, or return something. And returns on Taobao are almost always free and included in the service. I wish a marketplace like Taobao existed in the West. I will be lost the time I return home from China!

I purchased inline skate shoes hello kitty for my daughter and paid full cost with shipping after two days they sent email asking to pay more for shipping which double cost of what I purchased, I asked them to cancel my order and tell now waiting for refund, but no response although, the money held by PayPal but till now not received the refund

We ordered a product which the seller never had the intention of selling. The seller lied about having shipped the product through the taobao website and when we contacted the seller through the taobao website, we were told to wait by the seller and then cut off immediately from reaching the seller again. Taobao set up a system which is a hotpot of dishonest sellers. Everyone is strongly advised to boycut taobao because it rewards theft.

First time I ordered on line as I was told Taobo is a good sit. We'll let me tell you this after looking at the dress which absolutely looked stunning on site, it was straight in the bin for me
$#*! material and cheap cheap cheap. It wasn't even sewn properly and you could see running threads... so disappointed and never again. I'd rather pay for a decent dress rather than wearing the dress I bought from TaoBo. CHEAP CHEAP AND CRAP DRESS. Whoever made it, please take it back and wipe it on your cheap $#*!. What an ugly dress. Nothing like the one posted on line
So to all future buyers there stick to ASOS, Shop style website than this cheap site. Shame on you and your shirty product.

Items purchased on 5th December, during time of payment for freight, they promised 14-28 days, but already almost 50 days still yet to receive

First time buying in Taobao but got so **DISAPPOINTED! Should give a ZERO rating if I can! They said already deposited the $$$$ refund onto my payment card is **A TOTAL LIE! A total **RIP OFF! Dang! The seller automatically cancel my order without my permission!

Good:
- cheap products
- wide variety
- cheap shipment
- basically MOST sellers are honest and cares about their ratings

Bad:
- lousy products (depends on your luck)
- fake products
- need to know Chinese (in order to communicate)
- if you live overseas, can forget about exchanging and not every seller is willing to refund
- a negative (or even average) rating MIGHT make you receive a cursing/nasty message from the seller (yes, they're not happy with anything below Excellent rating)

My own experience from buying multiple times from Taobao is that, there are more honest sellers than scammers. And you should always check the rating and comments/reviews before buying from a seller. If they don't have much reviews, you can consider contacting them via the app and see how they respond, that is if you know Chinese.

Simply needs to stay away form this site.if we are purchasing out of China and if seller sent wrong item they don't even responsible to refund or send replacement! They just tell you to return item with and paid by buyers! They even changes listing photo's when they notice it is there error! CLASSIC CHINESE SITE! CHEAT AND MAKE MONEY!

I bought 3 small massage sticks from Taobao and it cost $62.38AU in postage alone to get to Australia.

The items themselves cost $16.12AU but $6.70AU of that was their commision.

I was ripped off very severly in all their correspondence they keep saying this is all clearly written on our web page for all to see.

They claim it is Imposible to give a postage quote before items are ordered BUT once items are ordered if you dont pay second payment of a massive postage they charge $$$$$ to cancel the order.

To add insult to injury they also refused refund on flawed products.

DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! I would have given them 0 rating if it is available. I ended up losing RMB 528 (around US $80) and they don't refund me based on the fact that I did not receive the item. Called them over 10 times. Worst experience I have ever had.

TaoBao has cheap goods that can't be bought outside of China sometime, but there's always a risk for fraudulent charges once they have your credit card info.

The story: I bought two items from two different sellers on TaoBao. My sellers contacted me hours later after I paid and placed the orders, but both said they were unable to ship the items oversea because apparently my address was wrong.

Seller A said she couldn't ship it, so I got a refund eventually. Seller B, however, had the item listed as shipped and there was tracking showing me where the package was being transported to, but on our chat record I read that she did not ship it yet and that I should return it. So how was I supposed to return a package that was not even delivered in the first place? I ended up filing for a refund, which the seller had agreed to. However, this whole thing was too suspicious.

I just went ahead and cancelled my credit card afterwards to avoid any fraudulent charges on TaoBao. I don't trust this site completely even though the sellers I bought from had high ratings. If you're going to buy things online, be careful of Chinese sites like these unless they have good ratings...

Bad customer service. Items always go missing. The custoner service agents are very good at passing people from one agent to another agent so that your problem never gets solved.

I did my first online shopping on Taobao in July 2016. Like most people, I was highly skeptical and suspicious of what could come out of this experience. Plus, my Mandarin isn't superb; I felt great disadvantaged. But after my first very-cautious purchase, I got braver. Thus far, I have not been disappointed with Taobao. Everything I have ordered - over 70 items and counting! - came through as advertised.

Obviously, like any online purchase, the onus is on me to do my homework well and sift through the wide range of products, reading carefully product descriptions and considering which retailers to order from. Any queries I have on the products, I contact the retailers directly via Taobao online chat.

At times when I had placed an order for a product that was no longer available, the retailer contacted me within 5-10mins of my order, offering to cancel my order immediately and refund my purchase. The refund was credited to my credit card within two weeks, as indicated. I have used my credit card for every purchase. No fraud issues, I am pleased to report.

I have been nothing but pleased with Taobao. The system really works.

Ordered tv cabinet incl. Coffee table. Arrived only tv cabinet. They just think they can cheat to only send tv cabinet because customer is desperate to have the cabinet, and not sending back the bundle. Not the first time. The TV cabinet ist basically fully damaged. RUBISH. NO QUALYTY, NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. They even dont bother to answer/reading the complain in Chat. VERY BAD SELLER. Worst experience. AVOID!

I registered the taobao in 2008, and I used to spend over 2,000 CNY(exclude 3% service fee) every month in tabao. With more than 10 years experience, I can feel the user experience has significant drop in recent few years.

1. The number of good stores has decreased in these few years. They cannot competed with the scam stores.

2. Recommend system is bad, a lot of advertisments inside but they never differential them.

3. Overseas shipment system is terrible. By air and shipping are only differential by some random code, if seller didn't specify it clearly in the delivery, they will automatically put it through shipping. It will be more expensive and much much slower. And you can't change it, even though you choose by air through the system.

4. your personal information will be sold to some scammers. I receive scam msg everytime after I start the shipment.

5. NO reporting system. I witnessed the time they remove the report feature in taobao APP. And now I even cannot find email address to report my issue. So this is the strategy, remove the problems from the people who raise it.

In conclusion, I don't recommend any New Customer to use this platform. DON'T TRY, YOU WILL REGRET!
For me I will slowly move my focus to other e-commerce website, even though there are some good stores I really like.
