“Great Customer Service!”

MATT J.
11/12/22

I called TransUnion this morning (11-11-22) between 11am - 12:30pm about what I believe was an unauthorized attempt to obtain credit using my name and credentials. I spoke with a woman named Dee in their customer service / fraud dept. I was thrilled to actually speak w/a human being, and even happier with the level of service I received from Dee. I'm 59 years old, have had CCs for 40 years and as far as I'm aware, this was the first time someone has tried to steal my identity. Dee was very patient w/my questions and concerns and provided thorough answers as well as reassurances. As a customer, I'm grateful that she's on the TransUnion team - and as a business owner for 19 years before recently retiring I'm sure TransUnion is also very grateful Dee is part of their team. Thank you. M Judson

“Wow! So bad compared to Equifax and Experian!”

Rene C.
9/16/24

Decided today to request a credit freeze from all three credit agencies due to the recent massive data breach. Managed to place a freeze with Experian and Equifax online in less than 2 minutes each. After 5 attempts with TransUnion, where I was repeatedly thrown off of their website, I decided to call customer support. I've now been on hold for 20 minutes. Added bonus...you have to press hold every 30 seconds to stay on the line. Sorry dudes, you suck. Now I'm gonna select 2 for a call back. What do you think the chances are that that will ever happen?

Rentspree uses Transunion to verify people's info, BUT IT IS CONSISTENTLY EXTREMELY INACCURATE! Transunion, Equifax, and Experian are constantly combining SSN which is ridiculous, because a person only gets one, they never update people's addresses or work history AND THEY HAVE ALL HAD MASSIVE SECURITY BREACHES SPREADING PEOPLE'S INFORMATION ACROSS THE INTERNET! If you own a business or you're a landlord, there are much easier/accurate/quick ways to vet a potential renter.

In 2016, I was nearly forced into bankruptcy due to a couple projects that went south. With my credit in the toilet, I began rebuilding. A couple years ago I obtained a new credit card with a low credit line ($1700) to help the process along. Last month I traveled and used my card for gas, hotels, etc - planning to pay it off clean at the next billing cycle (been doing this regularly).
Trans Union decided to dink my score 40 points BETWEEN billing cycles (literally less than 5 days after I reached 80% useage.
I find this absurd. And I don't need a lecture in how their algorithms work - I know how they work. I'm 55. I used card for 20+ yeRs for business - often racking up $10,000 - $15,000 bills on an AmEx between cycles, only to pay it clean within a month or two.
Their algorithms do NOT take in a full or fair picture.
And as I mentioned, anyone responding to this with a "yeah, but" need not bother. One size never fits all - ever - with anything. I'm weary of this nonsensical system we are all slaves to.

I tried to create an account and kept receiving an error message that my identity verification failed. I reached out to TransUnion on facebook messenger and was paired with Caity. I explained the situation and she kept resetting my account so I could try again. Instead of offering any useful advice she just stated that there was nothing on their end that indicated that there should be an issue, and when I told her I still wasn't able to make an account she simply stopped responding instead of offering any alternative solutions.

Then I reached out to TransUnion on their website chat function and got paired with Camille, who was very helpful but then she transferred me to Zyanna who is probably the most useless customer service representative I have ever worked with. I again explained the situation to her and she said she would look into it. Twenty minutes later I haven't heard anything so I message to ask if she is still there which she says she is, but doesn't say anything about what she was supposed to be looking into. I explain the situation again and she gives me instructions to call their helpline. I asked what she was doing for the last 20 minutes and she ends the chat. She was very rude and completely wasted my time.

TransUnion refuses to remove an unauthorized hard inquiry on my credit report. I was a victim of identity theft in Jan 2020, and Wells Fargo contacted all of the credit bureaus to remove the account and change the inquiry from "hard" to "soft". Every credit bureau EXCEPT Transunion has already fixed the issue months ago. There is no reason Transunion cannot complete a simple request in almost a year's time.

I called Transunion today (12/9/2020@ 7:35 AM PST) and spoke to three reps on the phone (*******604) who kept saying the next person would remove my inquiry. However, the last female "supervisor" at 7:50 AM refused to remove it and told me good luck... I wish I had written down her name to file a complaint with Transunion because she was really rude, unhelpful, and unknowledgeable about the whole process of removing an unauthorized inquiry. The first two reps sounded like workers outsourced in India, and the last woman sounded like an actual person in the US. Everyone just asked the same dumb questions over and over without doing anything to help.

Note: I have also filed a complaint with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to make sure the government is aware of Transunion's fraudulent consumer practices. I suggest doing this if you want to escalate your problem and get proper resolution.

Before Reading this Review - do some research on Google to view the recent Court case Ramirez vs TransUnion and another case in 2005 in regards to the thousands of people that TransUnion has falsely flagged as Terrorists and Drug Lords and then reported that LIE in their credit files just because their name was "similar" to a possible Terrorist on the OFAC list. Then proceeded to hide it from the customers when they asked to see their own credit report. It's disturbing what this joke of a company gets away with. As for my personal issue - If you file a dispute on your credit report using their website, they will NOT actually investigate. Within 12 hours of my dispute, they simply marked the account "Valid" while the other credit report companies actually took a week to investigate and overturn the false report. This is the absolute worst company who will report your FICO score anywhere from 50 to 100 points LOWER than the other 2 reporting agencies. Some advice - the next time you apply for a loan or a new credit card, ensure that the company does NOT use Transunion during their credit check and you will have an approval for sure. Simply research which companies use Equifax and Experian before applying. Transunion needs to be put out of business or many more lawsuits need to occur to get that "so-called" company in line.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid checking your score directly from their website. They steal your money. Use alternate sites to check scores and NEVER apply for credit from a company who uses TransUnion for the credit check. There are many businesses who Do Not use them. Just do some research. If you dislike a business practice, take the extra step to ensure you are Not putting money in their pockets or you have no right to complain.

I was using truecredit.com to monitor my credit. After a nasty called off engagement, I had pretty much destroyed my credit and for the last three years have worked very hard to repair my credit. truecredit.com told me that my credit scores were up there... almost 700 the highest one even being a score of 700. Well, me and my husband went in to prequalify for a mortgage (and I was only doing this because of what truecredit.com told me, and I was confident) come to find out, NOT A SINGLE CREDIT SCORE NUMBER MATCHED OR WAS EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT THEY HAD TOLD ME IT WAS! I was absolutly emabarrassed. Then when I called to cancel, they argued with me and did everything to keep me. Finally I told them I wanted to cancel and that they REALLY LET ME DOWN! Your best bet would be to just contact that credit bureas yourself.

I have reached out to this company multiple times over the last 3 weeks in order to have information updated on my credit report. There is NO option to email them a copy of a 0 balance letter, there are NO HELPFUL people at this company, they do not care about the customer on the other end of the line. They sound like ROBOTS all repeating the same thing over and over and never answering a question. I simply do not understand, if i can file a dispute online and provide the documentation ONLINE, then why can i not EMAIL the 0 balance letter. Oh WAIT, you cannot file a dispute online AND provide supporting documentation, because NOW, three weeks later, they are having technical difficulties and the ONLY way to get them the information is to send it in the mail. With todays technology, i should be able to send them a snapchat of the letter and they should be able to get it.
Waste of time, I do not know what government agency gave them power over MY CREDIT SCORE, but they need to seriously rethink it.

After making ten calls and writing 2 letters to TransUnion.com, the company has proven to be the worse agency when it comes to addressing customer issues. 1). The call center is not in the U.S. so there was a slight problem in understanding the call center agent and the agent's ability to understand U.S. English. I had to repeat account numbers several times and had to re-verify my information after being transferred to various departments. 2). In dealing with ten different agents, and supervisors, it is obvious that the staff is poorly trained. A simple problem of updating the account number of an existing credit card number based on the dispute letter I had submitted, resulted in TransUnion removing a 20 year account that caused my Credit Score to drop from 798 to 779.3). Managers and agents became defensive when I told them that TransUnion had caused the problem and one manager transferred me to a "ghost" extension after I asked to speak to his manager. 4). The SAD and SCARY thing is that several companies use data reported by TransUnion in their credit decisions. 5). When you Google TransUnion you will find similar complaints like" "Customer service is sooo horrible." "Worst credit reporting company ever!" 6). I purchased Credit Monitoring from all 3 Credit Reporting Agencies to monitor my credit, and fix any errors, for the mortgage that I plan to obtain in 2017 and TransUnion has consistently proven to be the worse company to deal with. Anyone interested in obtaining their FREE CREDIT REPORT as mandated by the government can go
https://www.annualcreditreport.com. Site has been set up by the big three credit reporting agencies in the United States, to furnish free annual credit reports, as required by federal law.
