I love this platform so far. It brings the community of artist together. It also has some cool challenges
I have been entering my photos in view Bug Contest for the last couple of years. I'm no louse when it comes to landscape photography. Some of my pictures are very very good. I have lost contests such as simple ones like image of the month two pictures that are no way near as good as mine. I I'm not trying to be conceited. There are many other photos that are just as good as mine that haven't won either. Unless you're a professional photographer or pay for a yearly subscription You're not going to win It's frustrating and disheartening I have a ton of awards But they're all made up ones or pure Awards which are important Because being liked by a photographer is Probably the most important thing. It makes me not want you even try anymore as far as photo contests are concerned. I read review after review of people who are really good but, not professional or maybe don't subscribe to there yearly membership who agree 100% as far as there silly coins they are basically coupons. They had one good item it's supposedly been sold out for 2 years.
Amazing Site - I loveit. They has review of your pic and let you known by email. They a lot of challenger about photos, videos and diferent community.
This site is such scam! I joined couple months ago and submitted to numerous contests, but never get into final stage until I got membership paid. After this couple of my pix get the top 10 number of votes, but never get to final (they send you email VOTING UPDATE and where is your picture ranked). I emailed asking for explanation - how come that my picture is ranked top10 at the and of voting, but didn't get to final 50?... no answer. I also noticed that one photographer won 2 cameras in 2 different contests, with pretty much similar picture within a month. According to latest contest for Photo of the year the is a over 180K pics submitted. You could estimate that they have around 20-30.000 monthly paid subscribers (PRO $9, Premium $6). So they are getting minimum 100-150K per month and still scamming who will get most attractive prizes!
THERE IS NO SUCH A THING AS FREE LUNCH!
This site is so easy to use.iam just a beginner and this site is the easiest to use and very fun and it's a great community to join as a photographer at ant level
I've been a member of ViewBug (pro level, though I'm not a pro photographer). I used to have great fun with it and have uploaded a great many photos to the site. Recently, I created a challenge and now they are refusing to post it among the available challenges. The only reason I can determine as to why they are doing this is because I don't have time to write everyone that follows me and ask they to enter. A pro photog who helps me from time to time says the banner photo for the challenge is excellent and the description for what should be entered is fine (you don't get much room to begin with). My photos receive a fair amount of likes and awards which is fun, and also the inspiration is good. My experience with the challenge has soured me a bit on the site, however. Maybe i just shouldn't have tried doing it, I put it off a long time, but wanted to be more involved. Also I think their judges need to be more open about entries. All photos don't have naked people, children or long-timed shots, yet they are still beautiful and well planned shots. I'm not saying don't try it, I'm just expressing my disappointment. I liked it better the way it was when I started.
Hello Tina,
Thank you for your sharing your honest thoughts and feedback with us. We are glad to know that your photos have received great recognition from within the community! This is definitely something that ViewBug is all about, connecting photographers and creating exposure opportunities for our member's wonderful photos.
Just a quick note on photo challenges, unfortunately not all photo challenges will be published in the main ViewBug Challenges page. Once a new Photo Challenge is created it will be immediately published in the creator's profile under Challenges >> Created.
The goal of photo challenges is to allow members to create their own photo challenges, to encourage their followers and other interested photographers to participate. A ViewBug system notification is also sent out to all of your followers when your new challenge is published. This is where engaging with others and promoting your challenge, can be very helpful. While we do our best to try and approve as many challenges as we can, this is not a guarantee for challenge creators.
We receive your input with welcome ears and again we thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
I'm a photographer and thats are my full time job. I have my audiance here in country. But here at ViewBug is nothing happening simmular about it in this scammy, full of promotion ads $#*!. I quit.
Hi Deividas,
Thanks for your post. We are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your time within the community. If you decide to return and/or we can ever be of assistance, please contact our Member Support Team at members@viewbug.com.
The ViewBug Team
I've had a ViewBug account for years and it's honestly a waste of time.
They have a lot of gimmicks that will lure you into thinking it's worth it. There are viewbug "awards" given at random that act more as participation certificates than anything based on skill. These company "awards" are heavily given when you stop using your account as a means to try and lure you back. Users can make and judge their own contests, which doesn't mean anything, and the contests themselves are only won by judges of other contests, no matter how good your photos are.
At the end of the year, they will send a summary that showcases where you place among viewbug users but fail to say how many users there are, even when you ask them. Being the top 3% of a million users is far different than being the top 3% of 100.
They also have a feature where you can sell photos but no one buys the photos because unless you win their major contests, you get no publicity and even then the publicity is solely other photographers (who are more likely to want to frame their own work than someone elses).
ViewBug also added a feature that encourages interactions with other user photos, but even then it's not anything constructive outside of auto-phrases like "good job" or "I like this", and users are prompted to send these messages for specific photos for account goals, not done of their own accord.
The site does try to offer some lessons, but I found them to be more like stories of how the photographer took or edited their photo instead of actual lessons. I found more helpful lessons on YouTube and in advanced photography books.
Overall, it's a cheap joke that convinces people to spend money while it offers very little in return. It and it's users are not genuine and it lacks anything helpful to improve your skills.
The only thing I found helpful by the site is searching for photos for inspiration, but even then that's what Google is for.
Take my advice and use a different website.

I really like this site for the learning experience and to get ideas for photoshoots. I like entering the contests to get an idea if the image is worth anything. I've NEVER won a contest yet... I doubt I ever will, if I do it will be very surprising. I've been a finalist several times and featured but nothing to get too excited over. Ive been a member for 2-3 years i think... IDK it's been a while. The one thing that keeps it from getting a 5th star from me is the reward points. They mean nothing. You can't redeem them for anything. They give you a free entry into a contest when you reach certain goal marks but you can't turn them in for anything... I would be cool if you could get a t-shirt or small momentos for the rewards. I've given up on trying to earn them. What's the point. I realize the points are easy to get, just make the items worth a lot of points then, and to certain level members make them worth less or discount them. I just think the reward points should either be cut out or improved with something worth working for...

I have made connections with photographers from all over the world. ViewBug is like a global photography hub and I love being part of it.
Good photographers and fun contests, still waiting to win a contest but a lot of inspiring stuff in the meantime
Hello Rupert,
We appreciate your positive feedback and glad to know you are a ViewBug fan. We hope that you win a contest very soon.
Have a great day!

I've been a Viewbug member for many years and purchased the Pro+ subscription back when it was the highest level of pay categories. Now there are different levels and Pro+ is the lowest paid category. Viewbug promises a lot of exposure that never seems to happen. I was drawn to Viewbug because of all the contests and challenges. I've entered hundreds of contests and challenges, yet often times there is little to no evidence that a judge (or maybe anyone) ever even saw my photos. Never won anything, but tbh I really don't care about that. Most of the times, the winning image is stellar and way better than mine. In the early days, one could earn points for participating--load a photo, give an award to another photographer's image, vote on contest entries, enter a contest, etc. The more you participated, the more points you earned. Nothing really happened with those points though. It didn't earn you anything. Now you can earn coins for the first award you make or first photo you upload or first contest you enter, etc. You can actually exchange your coins for some decent prizes. I used coins to buy Microsoft Office for my new laptop. Unfortunately, I feel that was a bit of a scam because I was never able to get my license code to work, even when Viewbug gave me another code after I complained. I ended up having to purchase Microsoft Office anyway. I basically think this entire website is just for whoever created it to make money from member fees. There is really absolutely NOTHING you get in return for your money or your time. There are better places to share photos and receive real feedback. I have now cancelled my paid membership and vow never again to get duped by this kind of thing.
Hello Sherry,
Thank you for your review and your feedback. We are truly sorry for your experience with the rewards program and we can guarantee that we will make an effort to improve this experience in the future. Please remember that you can continue using this feature with a free membership. We hope to turn this around and offer you the experience you deserve.
All the best

Started off very good with all the hype of badges, peer awards etc, but the main aim was to enter and get somewhere in some of these competitions. I managed to get to the final bit but never quite enough to get the top 50, I worked out that you need a lot of mates to get your shot up there and your photo is never judged by the judges unless your right up there, I know this because if a judge can view ******* entries in a day or 2 then you know they are not looking at them all. I approve of fairness in the spirit of a competition, and be judged on your effort, its no good paying for membership if you are not in a fair competition in the first place, got fed up with it after a while after making a lot of effort in all aspects and getting no where, I have had huge success with the same photos in other competitions in a "judge"vote and direct comps, so i know my photos are of some quality. Will not be renewing because there is no feed back from judges, and when asked to be a curator and help others, well last time i looked i paid YOU a membership not you pay me to run your own site, sorry chaps, great site if you want to play at it, but for those who wish to see rewards for effort, more work needed.
Update: I have since been contacted by View bug, fair play to the people who are customer service, however i stand by the fact, as a pro membership, its a lot of money to spend when you dont know if your shot has hit the judges table, Its a shame when someone enters a photo and its a really good technical shot, lots of effort but they know so few people who do not benefit from tactical voting, so their shot never makes above the top 10%, which if the judges reviewed ALL shots entered this would not matter, but i am sure they dont. Great site for those that like to FB in photo land and network, but for those wishing to progress in the comp not quite there yet.
Hello Jim,
We very much appreciate your honest feedback and would like to improve the situation when there has been a dissatisfaction with our service.
We understand that when it comes to contests seeing some winners might be frustrating. As you know, it is very hard to please everyone and the judges take the process very seriously. Art is in the eye of the beholder and the judges as well as voters each has a different interpretation of the techniques and creativity behind each photo submitted. We see the contests as a great tool to explore our creativity and expertise behind specific themes.
Please note that being a curator is totally optional and you may turn off the Curator notification emails within your Email Preferences at anytime by selecting 'No' for Curator updates.
In case you didn’t know; some of the special surprises that our members receive as a Curator are (but not limited to); exclusive early bird access to new products, exclusive offers from VB or partners (usually discounts), invitations to exclusive curators surveys, etc.
We’d like to learn more about how we could have improved your experience with us. Please feel free to contact our member support team via email at members@viewbug.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
Have a lovely day!

What does Elite awards from viewbug mean? I got this notification 2 days ago and i dont know what it means.
Hi David,
Thanks for your post. The Elite award is for your photo with the most traction, per the specific photo category. This award is not based on a specific competition but is selected from among all of your photo uploads (within each category).
If you need further assistance, please feel free to reach out to our team at http://bit.ly/EmailVB

I have received messages from VB employees (Kristy/Nicole) asking for my input and/or questions. I only received scripted online form letters - never a human reply. UNACCEPTABLE!
Hi Jerry,
We sincerely apologize for any messages or inbox communications that have come across as impersonal or scripted. We do have an active Member Support Team (of real live humans:-)) at members@viewbug.com who are definitely able to assist and are willing to hear any concerns and even constructive feedback. We recognize that there is always room for improvement and we do genuinely care about our community. If you're interested, please feel free to contact our team at the email address above.
This website used to mean a lot, but now from seeing fake edited photos, to being awarded on quite a few photos, asked to be "printed" and the like, I've never seen any of these things come to fruition. A site that has an app that doesn't keep up with the app, and allow all functions to be done on the app, as is on the website…makes no sense. The new coin rewards program was a good idea…but there are no prizes left, and the ones that are for a few…as a lot of us have been on here a long time, they're not even prizes, just discounts to buy more. This is an art based site, therefore the community wants more than to be taken for money and to pay for "VIEWBUG popularity." We're looking for real people, real contests, real fellow photographers, and real coverage on our art. The emails are just confusing, it's hard to tell if they're asking to use your photos due to you winning (I have "won" and was asked about being printed or having my photos shown) and still have no clue what ever went on. They want you to pay for any little thing you click on, and on top of that it's not all of this that makes people feel that this site doesn't give what it offers and advertises. It's how the site is handled and how you're treated as a human that puts love and creativity into what you do, and yes you want the exposure that you are expecting, and yes you want to be able to talk to real time people and be treated fairly, get real answers, be able to use the site as it's put in front of you. It's just not that way. They've taken a lot of things that used to be just free, for us posting and giving our photos to make your site what it is, you should be doing the same for all of us, no matter what even if it's just the nunber of photos that you accumulate, you're making profit off your members, and I mean paying and non. We're all members of a community, so it's time it should be just that…a community. ViewBug has great potential,, after being asked to be a curator more than once, you should be putting the contests in the hands of some of your top winning photographers…and from every category, and style. Not I just by what they spend.
Tip for consumers:
It’s fun to use for fun. If you’re looking for a serious career making app…first off think of those words put together….second just use it for fun and make sure if you do have a photo you keep the original. Just in case…you will be able to prove your intellectual property.

I used the free and was rewarded various memberships, they def keep their word on that. I’ve never spent money on the site and still have won, but won nothing, and definitely not any real exposure..
I like the format of the site, what bothers me is how the original photo quality is degraded significantly by Viewbug. Example, here are 2 links to the exact same photo. It has been uploaded to Viewbug and also DA.
Viewbug
https://www.viewbug.com/photo/*******
DA
http://orig12.deviantart.net/1bca/f/2016/239/f/7/bomber_by_5bodyblade-dafjigi.jpg
Update: This update is in reply to ViewBug T. [ViewBug Rep]
The image from deviant art I posted is actually what you see if you choose to zoom in. I was trying not advertise the DA site, thats why I linked directly to what you are shown.
But here is the link with the DA borders etc
http://5bodyblade.deviantart.com/art/Beautiful-B17-*******
Now, what is really puzzling, when I click on the photo from viewbug's version, It does not zoom in and get clearer, it actually zooms out only, showing either the "compressed version" or a smaller "compressed version"
https://www.viewbug.com/photo/*******
The photo never becomes better than "compressed"
I totally understand why images are compressed (saves space)
Also, thank you for taking time to talk about the issue. Again, I really like the format of the site, I just feel let down by image quality. Maybe I am missing something, but as far as I can tell, the view is always presented with the compressed image, with no way to zoom in or view the photo in better detail.
Thanks.
Hello Dizzle,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us!
We’ve reviewed both provided links and do not see a difference between the two photos on our end even though the link from deviantart.net is the original file of the photo vs the one from viewbug.com is the link to the photo, not the original file. As you may know; all websites will display a compressed version of the image to optimize faster loading and for security reasons so that image can't be stolen.
Please kindly contact our member support team via email at members@viewbug.com and provide the link to the image from deviantart.net (not the original file), and we’ll be happy to compare it with the one from viewbug.com

Purchased a new logo and was to be notified when it became available for download. Perhaps it was sent and I mistakenly deleted. Wonder how the logo could be obtained. Have an Invoice ID. Please let me know to whom this can be provided.

I'm really feeling compelled to write a positive current review of Viewbug. I did join it about one month ago and I'm completing happy with it. The reason I joined was because of the variety of pictures that are on the site. The members are from all over the world so you get to see photography from a world view. Every time I've had a question I simply shoot (get it) an email to them and within 24 hours I have an answer. I do appreciate the awards and yes they come from other viewbug members. I too have entered several contest and have not won any, but that really wasn't the main reason for joining. The site inspires and encourages me to improve my photography. When I see a photo that I'm really interested in how it was done I send a message to the creator and I have received a response from everyone so far. Once in awhile I will attempt to enter a photo in the pro membership level and I will get a "sorry you must upgrade", but I just go to the next contest. ---Several months ago I was tempted to join another online contest that had daily winners. I looked at the daily winners and the monthly top BIG winners. Well after a month I came to the conclusion that you had to have either a photo of landscapes, birds or cute animals. There was nothing new and fresh. And some of those winning photos were nothing more then snapshots. Don't get me wrong there were some amazing pictures, but the same kind over and over. With the same winners too.My question for that site was how can you have the same winners over and over again, if you have contestants from all over the world. Now that's suspect! With viewbug you know that you will see some amazing photos that have that WOW factor! So far the winning photos have been extraordinary and they challenge me to work harder on my own images, both in making them and in post production. Viewbug is just one avenue that I am using to improve my photos. I think you get what you put into it and this is one very positive method of improving my images. So thank you viewbug!
There are so many things that I like about ViewBug. I am a senior with a strong passion for photography ever since I was a kid. ViewBug provides me the opportunity to keep learning from my peers, communicate with my peers and take full advantage of the enormous amount of data that the organizers of the site provide.
I especially like that hundreds of thousands of photographers at every level are volunteering their time to review and award photos they judge as good. It is especially impressive to see so many photographers with inspiration scores equal or higher than their own number of awards, given that the inspiration category is a good measure of how much effort they have put into awarding others. It is that effort that has a lot to do with the site's success.
The continually updated stats on our photos is extremely useful in helping us photographers figure out how we are doing. One additional piece of data I would like to see included is the percentage of peer awards relative to the total number of views for each photo. Having 35 peer awards for one photo and 20 peer awards for another for example does not mean that the one with the higher number is doing better. If the one with 35 awards has received hundreds of views while the one with 20 awards has only had 20 views the one with the 20 awards is really much better in terms of how it is being perceived.
It has been not quite two years since I joined ViewBug. When it comes to being awarded the ViewBug judges and volunteers have been very generous. It definitely has kept me highly motivated. It has been a bit of a struggle, but so far I have been able to stay in the top 10 percent category in terms of popularity week after week with very few exceptions. I have acquired over 11 k awards, won over 30 challenges or been a contest finalist, and accumulated over 500,000 points. The highlight was winning a Sony a3000 camera in a photo contest where the subject was Minimalism. It felt a bit like winning the lottery given that there were over 18,000 entries.
A big thank you to all the ViewBug staff and your very dedicated army of volunteers.
Paul J.
