I love this platform so far. It brings the community of artist together. It also has some cool challenges
I have been entering my photos in view Bug Contest for the last couple of years. I'm no louse when it comes to landscape photography. Some of my pictures are very very good. I have lost contests such as simple ones like image of the month two pictures that are no way near as good as mine. I I'm not trying to be conceited. There are many other photos that are just as good as mine that haven't won either. Unless you're a professional photographer or pay for a yearly subscription You're not going to win It's frustrating and disheartening I have a ton of awards But they're all made up ones or pure Awards which are important Because being liked by a photographer is Probably the most important thing. It makes me not want you even try anymore as far as photo contests are concerned. I read review after review of people who are really good but, not professional or maybe don't subscribe to there yearly membership who agree 100% as far as there silly coins they are basically coupons. They had one good item it's supposedly been sold out for 2 years.
I joined ViewBug about four years ago, back when I first got into photography. About a year before I even got my first "real" camera, when I was still using my cellphone to take photos. I was going through a very difficult time in my life and photography literally saved my life. ViewBug gave me a good place to look through thousands of images, talk with other members and learn more about photography. I actually won a contest this year and have won several contest finalist, along with many challenges. ViewBug has helped me, and continues to help me become a better photographer as time goes on. I know that I still have a lot to learn, and there is always room for improvement, but I know that I wouldn't be at the level I'm at as a photographer, without ViewBug. I have made several good friends on the site and the staff has always been beyond helpful, understanding and professional in every single email exchange I've had with the them. I'm actually very thankful for the site. I see many bad reviews on here, but to me, ViewBug is just like anything else in life, you get what you put in to it. I also wanted to mention that although ViewBug is a huge site with hundreds of thousands of members, they still have a way of making you feel special and cared about. And before I end this. If anyone from ViewBug reads this, I want to give you a huge thank you for all of the hard work that you do to provide such an amazing website for me and other photographers like me. To me there isn't a better photography site out there, that accomplishes everything that ViewBug does. So again, thank you, for everything!
Im reading through reviews for viewbug and getting really annoyed. Loads are very positive and thats very good because it shows that viewbug delivers on prizes and stuff. But there are two types of complainers in these reviews in my opinion.
Type one - cant win a competition so spends their whole review saying its fixed bla bla bla.
Type 2 - thinks they are professional and therefore is putting everyone's images down saying that everything is bad or extremely low quality.
My opinion- yes there are a lot of lower quality images on there however some people cant afford cameras and equipment that will give them top images or they dont have the experience to take good images.
Viewbug isnt about having lots of professionals being amazing with no low quality images at all. It's about learning and appreciating the art of photography, this includes sharing lower quality images to receive feedback and help improving them. Therefore it is an amazing site that works very well. Personally i have spent many hours on this site and can't seem to get off it. I would like to thank viewbug for that. I am finally inspired to explore different types of photography to the studio work i usually do and i appreciate that a lot.
I love this site. Amazing talented people sharing their amazing photos. Whenever I view the new pics I am just constantly in awe. Hopefully, I will be able to learn from them.

Serious photographers need not apply! Been a member for about 4
Months and have to say this is one of the most disappointing sites I
Have signed up to. The platform they use is weak good photos get
Buried by members bulk uploading snap shots from their party the night
Before. Members of the site post spam comments on photos to gain
Points which give them the chance to spam more members.
For a photography site design to promote better photography all they
Seem to care about is getting the 60 bucks from members who have very
Weak portfolios! Just another flickr site with a gimmick. If you
Have the time to waist its a great place to go if your looking for
Examples of what not to do related to photography. The contests are a
Great idea however the management has proven time and time over its
Failure to enforce any kind of standard. Members enter photos of
Animals in abstract photography contests which proves they lack the
Basic understanding of the fundamental of photography.
Any person who is serious about photography will see the flaws of this
Site on day one! Members comments are nonconstructive and done mostly to gain points which seem to be some kind of measure of success on the site. This site IMO does nothing more than encourage weak photography making it more difficult for the serious photographers to get the recognition for the time they have invested trying to better themselves and the industry.
NOT Recommended!
This site is so fun it's addicting! Whether your a beginning photographer or a pro you will learn something. It's great connecting with other photographers and getting feedback on your photos.

I ask because I was probably stupid enough to "upgrade" to a Pro membership, and those guys refuse to send me an invoice. Every normal business should be able to send invoices but they wont...
Hi Jean-Francois,
Thanks for your comment. Our Member Support Team can definitely assist with this. Please reach out immediately to our member support team at members@viewbug.com regarding your invoice question. They'll be able to take care of this.:-)

Viewbug, quite frankly, is a joke. There are far too many manipulated photo's competing with real photo's. Real photography sites with genuine integrity never do this.
Hello there,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us!
We totally understand your point and see that you enjoy more natural photos and we have many members just like you. We also run contests that we accept only unedited photos. However, we also have members that enjoy edited photos and use of different techniques. At the end they are all hard work of different photographers who have different taste and enjoy different styles
We’d be happy to learn more about how we could have improved your experience with us. Please feel free to contact our member support team via email at members@viewbug.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
Have a nice day!

I have been an inactive member for five years, very active six years ago. But like other reviewers I see no real benefit yet am bombarded with spambot roboreps informing me I was chosen yada yada. Front face it looks cultishly like a scheme. It's the back room I've been wondering about. How do they REALLY make money, increase value for their investors? It MUST be the images. They've built an enormous library they can sell with no ties to me or the other saps whove uploaded cool pics. Just sayin'. Fun to look through nice shots, though.
Tip for consumers:
If you don't mind paying to be in a pretty pics club just to look, here ya go.
Hello Douglas,
Thank you for your review.

Your friends at VIEWBUG.
Not the best of the photo competition sites, but not the worst either. Nice that it has competitions with prizes, but far too many clickbait emails and persistent notifications trying to get you to upgrade ($) to see your stats, enter off-limits competitions and gain other pointless social media-type benefits (ie, ones where you do the work and pay for the privilege). It has a ridiculous 'curator' system that encourages you to send pre-formed messages to complete strangers in order to get them to be more active. The UI is a bit bonkers, and makes it hard or impossible to see precisely how well you are doing or have done in challenges, how many votes you got, etc. Makes one wonder if there is deliberate obfuscation going on for some hidden purpose. Maybe the levels of user activity aren't as great as they like to imply.
Having been on this and other photo contest sites for several years, I think the biggest problem is that its peer image voting system (showing four photos of different sizes on a screen you have to scroll FCOL) simply doesn't work. Far too often the peer voted 'winner' in a challenge just isn't that good. This isn't sour grapes - it is an objective opinion that the site throws up poor images as winners far more often than other sites. This, again, suggests that the volume of voting isn't high enough for the magic 'algorithm' to work.
With all the reviews stating that this website is untrue and biased towards certain members it raises a huge amount of doubt in my mind. I have been a member of this website for 2 weeks now and it seems that their only goal for me is to buy a membership spend more than $100. I have submitted photos and it seems like fun but I cannot find anyone that has actually won a prize from this website. There are many red flags telling me that this website is misleading and untrustworthy. People are going out of their way to inform fellow photographers that this website is a TRAP. After reading all the reviews, finding a Facebook page dedicated to informing people that this website is a scam, and reading countless reviews about this website deceiving people and not replying to them via email, it is safe to say that this website is not worth its while and I would highly recommend a cautious approach to it. I would not share my images with this website and I will no longer be a part of this website. It is more likely a SCAM than not.

I love this site. I have won a camera and actually did receive it :) The photos are great and the interface better! Definitely worth checking it out even if you are an amateur or a professional
I have been using it for like five or so months now. At the begining i was so happy with it. Uploaded photo, taking part in contests that are free... I have gained 45 trifecta prize over the last months and it was amazing untll oneday i cant loginn anymore to the site.
They show me This >> You are no longer an active user in Viewbug. Please contact us to reuse your account. Code: ******* <<
I was shocked to find that my portfolio has been erased and all my photo has been deleted. I tried to contact with them but i gave up after four email. One facebook inbox masssage and one tweet.
They dont response at all.
This site maybe a good place for beginner photographer, with all the free contests and good encouraging comments from community, but for serious people, its not a place they should waste their time on.
I was attracted to Viewbug by their long list of expert judges. There was virtually nothing to tell me about how the site operates, but I expected it to be similar to other sites that offer juried competition for a gallery exhibition or other prices.
This site is different. Most winners are decided members votes. Members range widely in skill level and experience. Look at the work posted on Flickr and similar sites to get an idea. If you are an advanced photographer, these competitions are not very useful and similar to the ones you can get for free elsewhere online. The juried competitions involve members narrowing the selection down to about 50 images (from thousands) and a more experienced juror (a website staff or other) just looks at top 50 images.
I found the nondisclosure of that up front together with listing of great many expert judges creating an impression that the competitions are juried by experts. Even when you do become a member, it is difficult to find out how the competitions are organised. By that time it is too late and 3 weeks after I signed up for a year, I was offered only about 1/4 of what I paid back. I found this deceptive. I hope that you didi better research of this site than I did and that you learn from the experience.
Hello Pavel,
We very much appreciate your feedback and would like to explain the situation when there has been a misunderstanding or dissatisfaction with our service.
As we described in our responses to your emails; only the People's Choice winner is selected by member's votes via the Photo Trifecta and that's why this specific winning category is called "People's Choice". Grand Jury Winner, Amateur Winner, and all the other winners are selected by one or more judges depending on the contest guidelines. You can see a list of some of our judges here: https://www.viewbug.com/judges
Per your reply; we understand some people may know ways to cheat the system however Photo Trifecta helps us avoid these type of issues. The Photo Trifecta is based on a proprietary algorithm that helps us choose the best photos based on the people's choice. The system displays set of 4 photos in a randomized fashion based on our algorithm which is designed to allow all entries the most opportunities for being viewed. Voters can only vote one time within a contest's voting trifecta and each voter views different photo sets.
We see that you purchased the upgraded membership with the BESTDEAL promotion which reduced the total cost of the Pro membership by $60 USD and included several third-party products as part of the upgrade which are non-refundable. As stated on our upgrade and FAQ pages; purchases that include redeemable third-party products are non-refundable - just like any other non-refundable services that you would purchase via other websites. For your convenience; we've provided the details below:
Please refer to our upgrade page for more details: https://www.viewbug.com/upgrade
IS THERE A 100% MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE?
If you are unsatisfied with your upgrade, ViewBug will refund any unused portion of your subscription. Please note that upgrades that include any redeemable third-party value added products are non-refundable.

We do appreciate your honest feedback as it helps our team best understand how we can improve the ViewBug experience. While we do have many happy members, we do realize that there are some members may not be as satisfied. In your specific case, we tried to do our best to assist you with your concerns, while still honoring the terms and conditions of this non-refundable purchase, for all members.
All the best,

I have been on Viewbug for over 5 years. When I started there were photographers posting quality work. Now 75% of the photos posted are garbage. I am a professional photographer and instructor of photography. I would never, even in my early days of learning photography, posted some of the images I see on Viewbug. Apparently, the individuals posting this junk really do not care and just load up the Viewbug site. It's clear they do not care that their junk they post reflects on them as a photographer. I do give peer awards to the photographers work that recognizes the beautiful art of photography. 25% of Viewbug has photographers that display absolutely beautiful work. In teaching photography the novice learns by viewing the work of other professional photographers. Unfortunately Viewbug is not the place for a novice or aspiring photographer to view this type of work 75% of the time. Some of the images I see that win in contest are awful and clearly shows the judges have no clue what their doing or the photographer solicits votes from all their friends (very unfair) not caring if their work is worthy of a win. To a serious photographer I would not recommend posting your work on Viewbug if you wish to be noticed. If you want to be noticed try Fine Art America. For over 35 years I have made my living doing professional photography and teaching photography. When Viewbug began it was a great site now I would not recommend it. Also, to be a paying member is out of the question. With this said good luck.
Hello Exis,
We greatly appreciate your honest feedback as it helps our team best understand how we can improve the ViewBug experience. We believe that art is in the eye of the beholder and we have judges from various schools of photography as well as all members who each has a different interpretation of the techniques and creativity behind each photo.
We’d be happy to learn more about how we could have improved your experience with us. Please feel free to contact our member support team via email at members@viewbug.com. We look forward to hearing from you!

After just being on the site for a few weeks, I concur with most. Too much emphasis on going Pro. Why bother? Just use the site for inspiration. You should have to PAY to enter a contest.
Hello Avery,
Thanks for sharing your honest feedback. While going Pro does offer the most access to features within ViewBug, we have many free contests that are available to all membership levels. Free contests can always be viewed on the Photo Contest page, under the Free tab.:-)
We hope you'll continue to find inspiration and participate within the community!
With sincere thanks,
The ViewBug Team
Not overly impressed with the service as some of the winners of the contests are not by any means the best within the community and or the contests. They seem to do very very little as far as running the site. They have two categories for there contests those who payed and those who did not. They do have a points system with unlocking badges but thats all they do is unlock they're useless trinkets. The biggest problem with the site as i see it. Is anyone who puts up the money can enter even the worst of quality or even no where near what the contest was about. So in order to vote for a favorite you have to go through thousands of pics by those not serious about photography what so ever. If the useless badges unlocked contests and then allowed you to the next level people might actualy talk and ask more about the pics and how they were done or want to grow as photographers. In todays age of cameras you certainly dont need to spend 10's of thousands to get a good shot. But to have all levels competing depending on the almighty buck is frustrating and very time consuming. Even when the voting is open or the second round theres still a ton of crap to sift through.
It seems my problem has been resolved.
They have put up a photo in my name, and it is NOT my photo. It is sexual of nature and I can't find a way to cancel it or to let them know. I'm very upset!...

Sometimes, it feels like ViewBug's marketing plan is to get you to not only do your own marketing but their marketing as well. It's very easy to advertise yourself (and thus viewbug) on social media. Although they encourage you to pose photo challenges, it's a crap shoot as to whether they will put your challenge of the "hub" where others can see it. And if you don't make the hub, all you can do is spam your contacts on social media or individually invite ViewBug members without the ability to copy-and-paste or even share your challenge URL. What's up with that? And "reward points" are just vanity points, like all the silly "badges" they give.
THAT SAID, the site is addictive. I quit at one point of frustration with the patronizing attitude of "support." But I discovered, I just didn't shoot as many pictures, much less better pictures. I rejoined for the fun and learning I get from competing with professional and amateur photographers all over the world. The chances of winning any real prize (like a camera) are miniscule, but you can get rankings as how you compare to other photographers.
All in all, it's one of those sites where the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.
Hello Tom,
We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and for participating within the community!
ViewBug is always appreciative when members share photos and content about/from ViewBug. That said, we definitely also invest our resources in promoting our site, contests, winners, finalists, featured images, blog features, etc. This is part of our regular process to provide as much exposure to as many of our members as possible.
With regard to Photo challenges, the goal is to allow members to create their own photo challenges that allow members from around the world to rally around a specific theme, subject, or photography style. We definitely recommend that members encourage their followers and other interested photographers to participate. We also set up a ViewBug system notification that is also sent out to all of a challenge creator's followers when their new challenge is published.
While we endeavor to include as many Photo Challenges in the main ViewBug Challenges >> Explore area, it is true that not all challenges will be included there. With that said, the criteria for getting Photo Challenges approved are included here: http://bit.ly/VBchallenges and quite often when photo challenges meet these guidelines, they're often included on the main Challenges page.
Rewards Points are not the main focus for most members on ViewBug, though many do enjoy them. Rewards points have milestones that unlock special benefits such as extra contest submissions (on top of your regular submission limits), moderator access, curator status, ambassador level, and VIP level perks, etc. You can view the milestones and their rewards points equivalents by going here: http://www.viewbug.com/user/reward-points (must be logged in to your account)
Again, we appreciate your honest feedback and we graciously accept your input. We are also glad to know you're finding pleasure in participating within the community.:-)
All the best,
The ViewBug Team
Share and make our world better. Take away all the madness and bring the light here through photo lens. Thanks viewbug for being with us and offering to upload our art :)
I don't post to any of the sites for photographers to win anything I post for fun because I know no matter how good my photos are I will not sell any of them on Viewbug nor will I win anything for my work.
Hi James,
Thanks for sharing your feedback. We have members from varying photography backgrounds and ranging from hobbyists to professionals, all are welcome! We have many photo contests running every day. Within many of our contests we have a separate winning category for Amateurs. Members who enter those contests and have their Account Settings >> Account >> Customize set to Amateur level, are eligible to win in the Amateur category.
On occasion we also run an entire contest specifically for skill level, such as our recent (already closed) The Battle of Professionals, Battle of Advanced, and Battle of Amateurs contest series.
We take great care in offering a variety of photo contests, prizes, and use a proprietary voting system to help maintain the integrity of our contests. If you ever have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to our Member Support Team at bit.ly/EmailVB.
Thank you again for the time you've shared within the community, we definitely appreciate it.
Wishing you all the best,
The ViewBug Team
This site is a great way to connect with others passionate about photography. However, it's main goal is "traffic". The more people interact with the site the better. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I've chosen not to make any monthly payments for the "PRO" or "Premium" status as those will get you to enter every contest instead of a few dozen. If you treat the site as another branch into a community of people that LOVE photography it is 5 stars. It's very addicting an satisfying to get feedback and give feedback.
If you treat the site as a way to further your photography business and exposure you will have to work very hard at building a base of fans to get your photos up to the top tier awards and possibly winning. Every contest will have 10's of 1,000's of entries and members are allowed to repost their best shots over and over for each new contest. Contests are the way to lure people in as a source of income. As long as you don't fall prey to ego on your photography skills thinking you have a chance of winning you'll have much more meaningful interactions in creating your own contests and connecting with others.
I don't plan to spend a dime on Viewbug memberships and have been enjoying the site despite that decision.
Hello Jamin,
We very much appreciate your feedback and are happy to hear that you see ViewBug as a great tool to connect with other photographers.
As you may know, here at ViewBug; we also help our members get exposure by featuring them on members page, social media pages etc and you do not need to be a paying member to get featured.
We value your membership and are honored to have you as a member of the ViewBug community.:)
Have an amazing day!

Each change it gets worse and less fun. Cant download your own pics. When things don't work. They are poorly supportive to premium customers. Steer clear.
HI Sean,
Thanks for your post. We are very sorry to hear that you're unhappy with some of our recent site updates/changes. We are continually working to improve the community and our site functionality.

We do care and we are listening, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
Expensive up grade, the odds are to great, to much of the same thing. Nothing selling. To much HDR. Chances of winning Slim. To many specialising in photoshop and not true photography.
Viewbuggers are great people - This is a photo site that has great contest and communities. The site is easy to navigate. Would recommend joining to anyone.
I find the site excellent but the new method of voting the trifecta I find is difficult to see the photos that you are viewing properly and is very frustrating but otherwise love viewbug!
Welcome to ViewBug, a creative community with the world's best photo contests. Approved by millions of photographers, the best brands and awesome judges. Join over 100 photo contests per year and browse a huge selection of quality photos.
