I was referred to this organisation, who are supposed to help and guide through the process of a complaint to an NHS Trust and 'according to their website, "give people a voice".
The first person I dealt with was from the Isle of Wight and was easy to talk to about the issues and was really helpful and constructive with the advice they gave.
However I was then transferred to the Southampton branch, where the contact and service was anything but helpful or constructive and actually served to do nothing more than confuse, obfuscate and make things a million times worse. They were, quite frankly, just dreadful.
At every juncture the person I dealt with did little else but talk about what they can't do rather than what they can do. The 'advocate' then kept contradicting the advice they were giving from one contact to the next, and promised to undertake actions which never materialised, only to send me 'blame the customer' e mails weeks later. They requested information then would e mail weeks later claiming they hadn't received it, even though a read receipt said they had. It was just one big excuse making exercise which felt like that person was playing psychological games with me. It was horrible and upsetting and caused even further distress to an already distressing situation.
In the end dealing with the person became so bad that I couldn't face having dealings with them and asked to have someone else assigned. This request was ignored and my case closed, but only after they had left me completely confused and crippled from moving the situation forward.
Overall they served not to "give me a voice" but to quash any chance whatsoever of me having a voice!
