Voices dot com staff,
It gives me great pleasure to write this message of gratitude for an administration that is clearly the barometer for all v/o websites, setting a new level and high standards by consistently raising the bar of professionalism within the industry.
Yesterday I had the great pleasure of receiving a telephone call from your Customer Service Representatives, Courtney Colin, from the Los Angeles, area.
Courtney was very knowledgeable, informed and very supportive in our conversation as she provided helpful insight to improving my profile and the exposure to potential clients on the Voices Platform. Courtney reviewed my stats prior to our conversation and was very well prepared and even walked me through navigating the Voices website. Her suggestions provided keen insight in promoting myself effectively to make improvements for a more positive result in the percentage rankings and job site opportunities.
Our conversation was thorough, complete and was even followed up by an email message highlighting the critical notes from our conversation.
It is this type of professionalism that simply amazes me, when a business and their representative takes a Personal Interest in its customers. Courtney humanized the cyber world with her warm receptive communication skills. She is an extremely valuable asset for Voices dot com, with her level of knowledge, courtesy and professionalism.
I would like to thank Courtney for her time and attention with respect to my account in Voices and I would also like to thank Voices Dot Com for recognizing Courtneys Customer Service Skills and for having her within the staff and on the customer service team.
I strive for a professional result when recording voiceovers and working with an organization that also strives for the same level of professionalism, puts us all united on a seamless mission to achieve the same goals.
Thank you all for taking an interest in me, as I am a small fish in an ocean of voice over talents, yet I am honored for the special attention Courtney and Voices have provided. Thank you all.
Professionally,
Dan Romo

A few things:
1.) Booking work on Voices.com can be quite challenging if you aren't among the top 100 talents or don't have rising star status, a new feature they introduced.
2.) Timing is critical when auditioning on Voices.com; if you don't submit your audition within the first 5 minutes of a job posting, it's unlikely you'll be considered. Once around 50 people have already auditioned, your chances diminish significantly.
3.) Voices.com has introduced a "Live Directed Session" feature, which they include in your quote, adding an extra cost to you. It's important to note that directed sessions are not a new concept in the industry; they have been standard practice for many years.
Here's my experience in more detail:
Over the course of four years on Voices, I've had some successes with job bookings and found transparency to be an issue initially. While the platform worked for a while, the dynamics changed, and now it seems like being in the top 100 is crucial for better opportunities. Most of the work leans towards corporate and explainer-type jobs, although there are occasional commercial opportunities too. However, a significant portion of the jobs, like in-perpetuity ads and eLearning narrations, offer relatively low pay.
Though I had a positive booking experience, I question the payment model, as there seems to be a 20% deduction for professional services without clarity on what those services entail. Voices' management can be elusive when asked about it. Additionally, the process can be frustrating, with roadblocks hindering progress just when momentum is building. This is likely driven by their desire to keep more money from talent.
Recently, budgets have shrunk, and commercial work has diminished or pays significantly lower with global usage buy-outs (See attached image). Many job invitations I receive now have meagre payments, making it challenging for experienced professionals. Unfortunately, Voices doesn't seem to prioritize higher-paying opportunities that would benefit talents and job managers. You are often limited within the confines or their corporate structure and have to play by their rules to achieve success. It would be beneficial if they stopped accepting jobs with small budgets, as this practice is negatively affecting the industry.
Regarding customer support, Voices' responses seem generic and don't provide actual solutions; it appears to be damage control for their declining online reputation.

Hello and thank you for taking the time to leave us a review.
We’re happy to hear that you have had many positive experiences on Voices, booked work, and felt that Voices was transparent and upfront, always ensuring payment.
We’re sorry to hear that your experience has not been as positive this last year, and we’ll pass your feedback along to our team. Voices certainly wants to attract a wide range of jobs with a wide range of budgets, including high-paying commercial opportunities, and we work hard to bring these types of opportunities to the platform.
Although we do allow for jobs with lower budgets to ensure that those Talent who wish to respond to smaller-budget jobs may do so, it’s definitely not our aim to make those the only kinds of jobs available. That would not serve our Talent well and would not serve us well as a business.
We are also working on updating our usage and licensing parameters to ensure that in-perpetuity is selected by clients only when it absolutely needs to be, as we know this has been an area of frustration for Talent.
We’d love to speak to you one-on-one to see what we can do to improve your experience. If that is of interest to you, please reach out to talent@voices.com and Evan Wiebe would be pleased to chat with you and look at the types of jobs you’re seeing to ensure everything is operating as it should be.
Thank you again for taking the time to write, and thank you for being such a valued member of Voices.
My one-year membership has just run out and I have held off in commenting about my year long experience with Voices.com since it's been a mixed bag. My expectations when I took out a membership was to get feedback from my audio auditions resulting in some paying jobs. Despite submitting over 500 auditions none of these resulted in an acceptance. Not a single one! Every time I would carefully read the job parameters and rehearse the script, then submit with a short friendly intro saying'I am easy to work with and a consummate professional dedicated to bringing the highest level of quality to their project'.
When several months had gone by without any results I had 2,45-min conference calls with Cameron who offered constructive criticism. I reworked my profile, testimonials, experience listings, etc. at his suggestion. All without results. Subsequent emails to different representatives were usually answered in a timely fashion but significant difficulties were not resolved.
One of my biggest problems with this company is that they don't update the status of a job. I currently show 118 jobs to which I've applied dating back a full year to July 2019 and they still show as ‘undecided'. Voices.com says that some clients don't bother to update this and yet Voices must know if a job has been awarded since they act as an escrow entity, releasing funds to the V/O artist when a job is complete. This is a huge frustration and frankly seems suspect.
Another difficulty is one's inability to hear an awarded voice over. They say this is confidential and yet without being able to hear the difference in finished product anything I would submit is strictly conjectural. There is simply no standard or anything to compare yourself with from the actual jobs offered. It leaves one to suspect that the jobs were actually awarded. How would one know?
I know personally that my voice over abilities are marketable since I have worked in radio for the past 10 years and am frequently requested to provide the voice range for their numerous and varied advertising clients as well as PSAs for many non-profits.
So, if you want to use this company as a practice platform maybe it's worth $499 to you. But if you're expecting to get work from what might be several hundred auditions you apply for or to know the status of auditions you've submitted take heed and find another company.

Hi John,
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We understand how frustrating it can be when a job status is not updated. As a marketplace, we can’t ensure that every job posted will be cast and completed by clients. Sometimes there are unforeseen changes on the clients’ end and they do not proceed with the hiring process. You can find more information about payment release here: https://www.voices.com/company/technology/surepay
While we are unable to release winning auditions due to confidentiality, our podcast Mission Audition is a helpful resource we feel fills that gap. Our hosts take listeners through a number of auditions for a job and provide actionable feedback. You can take a listen here: https://www.voices.com/podcasts/missionaudition/
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team at any time. Thank you again for leaving this feedback and we wish you all the best.
I started on voices.com around 5 years ago. It's a great place to practice auditioning, and you will audition a lot. Problem is:
1- Many who post a job there do not hire anyone there.
2- The site lets anyone who is willing to pay their fee become a voice artist.
3- This makes it so some jobs will get over a hundred auditions and they might not even listen to yours.
4- You are competing for the job based on your guess of what the client really wants to pay. So people are getting voice overs for very little from those who lowball their price. So someone could get a lowball offer of $300 when they really should be paying over $600. And they just got over a hundred auditions because voice artists thought they would pay a reasonable price for the work.
5- When the client forgets to release funds you can't do anything about it. I had one job that still hasn't released funds and it has almost been a year. Customer service basically wants you to take care of any issues.
6- So at that point I stopped auditioning because I wasn't getting paid and I wasted almost an entire year subscription (hundreds of dollars).
So for voice artists there may be a lot of jobs posted, but there are a lot of people auditioning. I have found the amount of time I spent on voices.com versus the compensation to be far less than other sites I am on. Clients don't realize the time it takes to audition and how many auditions you do in order to get a job. They just think they are being ripped off because they have to pay more than $100. They never consider that they got 40 auditions which took 6-10 minutes each (that's around 8 hours of work done by others just so you can chose one person to record). Then when you take into account the work they do on the actual voice over it ends up that most people are making less than minimum wage. Of course, some are fortunate and get repeat customers. Almost a year ago they were promising big changes, and really they've just made the site look prettier - no real change to solve the problems. For those people looking for a voice artist and can pay more than $100 then you get to listen to a lot of auditions and choose who you like. You'll get the inexperienced with the more experienced, but if you want the best be willing to fork out more than $100. For those voice artists considering get a yearly membership, think twice. Sure you get the chance to audition for a lot of jobs, but only the lucky actually make much money. Plus you pay hundreds of dollars to audition.

Hi Grace,
Thank you for your feedback. You're right, building a voice over business is hard work and requires a lot of commitment, no matter where you choose to pursue your career. We're pleased to be a part of many voice actor's successful businesses, which each has to define for themselves. As for your other points, please allow us to correct a few misconceptions:
1. We invest significant amount of resources into bringing clients to the site. Our goal is to help our customers succeed, making us extremely invested in these jobs closing. After all, when someone is hired for a job on Voices.com, everyone wins.
2. Voices.com is an online marketplace. We provide a level playing field for all talent promoting their voices. This applies to those already working as voice actors and those embarking on a career in voice over. Some of the top talent on Voices.com today were brand new to voice over when they first signed up with us. Because they could register for our platform early on, they were able to gain experience, build a portfolio and achieve success. Everyone starts somewhere.
3. We send auditions to talent at the exact same time so everyone has the chance to book the job. A client decides how many auditions they will listen to. Some will listen to all auditions while others move ahead faster, especially once they've heard the voice they want to work with.
4. The average pay out to talent has increased by 36% in the last 2 years.
5. If you ask Customer Support to check in on a payment for you, we always release payment within 14 days if we don’t hear from the client. With that being said, we realize it’s not convenient to be reaching out to support so you’ll soon see auto-release of payment on all jobs (see blog post here - https://www.voices.com/blog/new-product-updates-30-30). In fact, you can always keep an eye on our blog for upcoming product updates (this does not include any aesthetic updates).
Wishing you all the best and success in your VO career!
