“Overton Cottage, Rock Hall, Maryland”

George H.
8/30/22

From planning through departure at the end of our stay this has been an easy, pleasant experience. The Overton Cottage and host could not have been any nicer. The views, quiet setting, privacy and sophisticated casual accommodations were worth every penny. The guest bedroom is separate from the master bedroom. Each had very nice bathrooms and plenty of towels. If you're looking for a quiet place with amazing views and no ambient lights, you just found it. The screened in back porch made for great relaxation watching the birds and the water. The Wi-Fi was not an issue. The Eastern Neck National Wildlife Reserve is just 1/2 mile south and Rock Hall is only about out 10 minutes north with shopping and restaurants. Our sailboat tour added to the experience and was very affordable with Captain Mark of Blue Crab Charters. We like to leave a place nicer than we found it. There was no way to do that. It was immaculate and very welcoming. Bravo to the owners.

“Disgusting dirty house”

Collene B.
2/9/24

Vrbo reservation ID: HA-86M0H4 This house was dirty. Bathroom basin was hanging off the wall. Grime in the tile grout around shower. Grime around the kitchen sink. Air conditioner blows hot air. Bed was new apparently, but so hard the floor would have been more comfortable. Owner was nice enough man. He honestly believes the house was presentable to charge good money for a rental. He will not refund me at all. I have video of all my claims. I would not ever recommend this company.

We have rented 5 listings in Chattanooga through VRBO for the past 7 years. We have consistently had a great experience with them up until they decided to change their payment system. I understand that Air BnB does their payment system the same way, but having the company do it in the middle of the year and still making the users pay when they book seems unethical.
It has completely ruined our book keeping as well as our pay roll. How are we supposed to pay the property manager an administrative fee in a way that is fair without draining our bank account?

We are in desperate need of a company that encompasses the good things of both air bnb and vrbo so that we can drop this company completely and go back to how things were.

If anyone has any idea of such a company please let us know!
Were at a loss as for what to do, since we do get so much business through them.

I have used VRBO a lot. Usually as a last minute rental and have had success. Most of owners are easy to work with. At times tho the initial price looks good but then they hit you with tons of fees so look out for this. Also sometimes they will bargain with you especially if it's last minute, although sometimes this seems to insult some of the owners but most are fair about it. I have gotten some great last minute deals through VRBO. Just do your homework.

If you have a property you own or manage and would like to derive extra income as a vacation rental, then VRBO should be your first choice. Their customer service is decent, their pricing is fair, the market exposure is good and their interface is good. The best part is that VRBO gives you many choices for important parameters such as cancellation policy, refund policy, booking contract (you can write your own). I could go on and on. Suffice it to say, if it wasn't for VRBO, I would simply sell my properties.

Since VRBO HA has been purchase, their recent changes have enraged both Owners and Travelers. I will no longer list my property with VRBO.
Trust the market place. New and far better alternatives will become available. Look for them. Adios Home Away n VRBO.

I left a one-star review two years ago about VRBO. Since that time, things have changed dramatically and I'm very impressed with the changes. I still can't go with five stars, but I'm now able to get a real person on the phone quickly. My only complaint is that they keep pushing their payment plan, which I'm not on and don't care to be. It gives them too much control of my business. Other than that, I've been very please with service and hope it continues.

As home owner that has listed on VRBO for many years, was wondering why my bookings were down. I figured ( in Part) was because of the fee that was added for 24/7 service (BS!) I waited 1+ hr last time. I can only guess what my guests have to deal with!

Bummer that I have to Look for another listing

Hi,
My husband and I stayed at Ruby Red in Greater Groves neighborhood, Davenport, Florida from 8/21/15 - 8/26/15. The house was beautiful, spacious and well maintained.

It has been 6 weeks since our visit and we haven't received our security deposit back yet. I have attempted to contact the property manager twice in the past 3 weeks (via phone and email) but haven't received any response from them. I am still awaiting our security deposit.

We have been ardent supporters of VRBO for seven years both as vacation home owners and travelers. The company recently added Service Fees to the traveler without properly notifying home owners. Additionally, these fees do not clarify to the traveler that it is being charged by VRBO. Many travelers believe the fees are imposed by the homeowner. Most importantly, the fees do not provide any value to the traveler and are egregious in nature. We have left VRBO and we caution the traveler and homeowner to beware. The greed is unconscionable.

3 bed/3 bath slopeside Copper Mountain Condo at FoxPine at Copper Mtn East Village

Overall - unit itself is wonderful, owners were SUPER responsive and very accommodating and easy to get in touch with. We would rent from them again in a heartbeat, only NOT on VRBO. Other than the layout (see review below), the condo was perfect. However as VRBO does not allow criticism about their fees, I am leaving this review here as well as on as many other 3rd party review websites as possible.

This 3 BR unit at FoxPine was very nice overall. The layout is a bit odd, as those staying in the bedroom with the two queen beds had to pass through the balcony king size bed area, so if you want privacy, the balcony bed doesn't offer that. This however was expected, as it is mentioned in the description, and it was not an issue for our group. That's just the design of this particular unit. I don't know if other 3BR/3BA FoxPine units have the same layout or not. The condo was VERY well equipped. I can't think of any amenities that were not provided by the owners. The owner's themselves were terrific and returned our call almost immediately regarding an issue (resolved!) with a small refrigerator in the lower bedroom closet. The other "potential" issue was the property management agency's location. It does not have an office at Copper Mtn which is unusual. It's all the way over in Dillon Ridge (some 10 miles east off of I-70@ the Dillon/Silverthorne US 6/CO SR 9 exit). If one is arriving by CME (EPIC) shuttle or another shuttle service, how they would go about obtaining their room keys and check-in info... I have NO idea! This is a really goofy situation for a unit located at the resort. Perhaps a CME driver will detour to Dillon Ridge? I have no idea as two of us drove our own vehicles and the other party rented a vehicle at DIA. Lastly, and this has nothing to do with the unit itself, however the VRBO fees are becoming excessive to the point that we likely will not be reserving any future rentals via VRBO and instead only deal with owners who rent direct and avoid the middleman fees. Over the past few years I have acquired a good list of verified legit condo/house owners willing to rent direct. A $320.00 VRBO fee on a $2600 base rental? I'm sorry, VRBO does nothing to deserve a 12.3% fee! Yes, they have a website with listings... and perhaps there are additional assurances when renting through VRBO but not worth anywhere near 12%. 5%... maybe. It's beyond absurd at this point.

Date of arrival - March 5,2022

Reservation ID #HA-TJ8VP8

Tip for consumers:
VRBO = just say NO... unless their fees return to Earth.

Products used:
This is a review of a condo rented through VRBO. Condo itself was great. The VRBO fees are... well, just confiscatory and beyond absurd... 12.3%. Time to tell VRBO to take a long walk off a short plank...

DO NOT RENT FROM SANDY VACATIONS! Hali'i Kai 10H in Waikoloa Hawaii!

Check these photos out
$5900 for 10 days in a total filthy dirty unit! No AC, 8 burnt out light bulbs, bugs, we have tons of bites! Dirty old sheets, pillows & bedding. Dirty pots & pans in the cupboard, mold in the dishwasher & shower heads... Garbage in the vase on the front porch... no handle on the microwave oven, missing screens, broken windows & blinds, broken fan...
It was horrible! The filthy kitchen mat was so old the backing had disintegrated and was like a pile of sand on the floor... hence the "joke cleaning company" never cleaned under it, or much else by the looks of the place. Per the cleaning co-We don't usually turn on all the lights when we clean, we don't check the dishes every time we clean... no wonder it's a dump! The maintenance man was " off the island " for the holiday I was told... by the condition of this place there is
"No"maintenance man!
The grand finale today was the power company shut the power off as we were leaving! Apparently the bill hadn't been paid since 9/30/16.

Sandy wanted her $5900
2 months prior to our arrival not sure where that money goes, because it sure as hell isn't used to keep this place up.

FYI
Her penthouse in The Fairway villas had similar issues in 2/2016.

My wife and I rented a magnificent house this past June and July at a property called Arnauton, located in Beraut, the Gers, France. The website is arnauton.com. It needs to be seen to be believed: 8 bedrooms, 6 beth rooms, a large swimming pool, a large playroom, protected outdoor eating areas, beautifully landscaped, wonderfully managed, and more. This home was lovingly and impeccably restored by the owners, Tony and Barbara Mackintosh. It is located in an area of southwest France known as the Gers but better known to most people as Gascony, where the Three Musketeers and D'Artagnan roamed.

I recently rented a condo in Park City (Redstone area). I paid the full amount 3 months in advance along with the $500 deposit and cleaning fee. Upon arrival I was told by place checking us in that my credit card would be run in case of damages. I was not told about the $25 fee that LESPRI charged for checkin and checkout. It was in the fine print and after complaining to my credit card company, I am forced to pay this fee. I was not told by the Owner or VRBO of this $25 fee.

Beware: Began communicating with an owner of a rental and began receiving emails from "Vacation Rental." At first I presumed it was the owner's agent, but when they asked us to wire money to them, I realized that this was a scam. I believe the owner is legit though, as we were in contact with him and visited the house, so hackers must have gained access to his email account.

Over the years we have rented several condos, houses, and apartments for vacations through VRBO. Their website is a little clunky and sometimes it's hard to search for exactly what you want. But with enough effort, you can find what you need. We've never had any problems with the places we've rented through them and have always been very pleased with the outcomes. I think they are trustworthy and I will continue to use their site.

I've been reading here reviews of Vrbo that don't support my experience. Aside from a recent disturbing double booking problem with Vrbo wherein it appears Vrbo is concealing their fault, generally I've been very happy with their customer service and website ease of use
Compared to air b and b.

There are navigation buttons on vrbo's website that are more numerous, so you don't have to ask the community, waiting for an email. If you have a problem you can call Vrbo. If you can't change a rate, Vrbo will change it for you, instantly. You can charge different rates for different events on Vrbo. Not so on air B and B.

You can be paid at time of booking at Vrbo, which is fair, whereas at Air B and B, only air B and B gets paid at time of booking. The owners wait until check in.

I think air B and B is good for rooms for rent, from what I hear.

I like the personal touch, getting to know the owners aspect of air B and B.

The rates are outrageous on Vrbo but it has gotten me lots of guests.

As to reviews Vrbo posts bad reviews and no longer accepts even notes that guests write to you, signed, unfortunately.

I am an owner who lists on VRBO and I have used it as a traveller. As for owners, it is expensive but I do get good inquiry rate. If someone searches for specific criteria the house will show up no matter how far down it is on the priority list. As for renters, I have also used the sight for finding properties. Always contact the owner directly and ask lots of questions. The homes are not hotels and you have to be very careful. The reviews are real despite what some have commented and I can't eliminate bad reviews without eliminating all reviews. My suggestion is to ask if the owner manages the property and ideally if you can see it. If you are travelling from far away, do lots of inquiring. VRBO is merely a hosting site. Don't expect them to solve any problems-they won't. If an owner doesn't seem professional don't use them. I require 6 pages to be read and then signed so guest know my expectations and understand what I provide. I am available all the time and my guests come back over and over because my house is clean and inviting.

We stayed at Surf & Racquet Unit #194 in Kailua Kona Hawaii. Alli with CJ Kimberly Realty was awesome. She was available to take care of any situation. Location is super! Listening to the ocean all night is so soothing. The kitchen is well equipped as well as pool/beach items to use. View from the lanai is breath taking. We watched turtles feeding every afternoon. The pool is super! The resort was very quiet (we had windows open all the time day/night). Very clean. We had problems w/ lights flickering and Alli had repairmen there quickly (and this was on a holiday weekend). This unit is probably 30 years old, but very well maintaned & comfy. Would definitely return to this location. Thanks Alli & Jennifer at CJ Kimberly Realty!

This is Vacation Rentals By Owners. I hesitate to share this, because I have had good luck booking vacation rentals through this site, and I don't want it to be too popular, or it may be more difficult. This is a great website for booking a vacation rental. Each rental property is independently owned so the prices do differ for property to property. We have been able to stay in a house within a mile or less of Disneyland for less than hotel rooms and had more space and been able to eat in instead of eating out, which made the vacations even more enjoyable.

My family rented VRBO ******* in Stowe Vermont. We were asked to provide a separate check for the (very large) security deposit of $750. Prior to our arrival I wrote the owner and asked if we could bring our dog.

She replied IF I was willing to pay for additional cleaning costs. However, I was able to find another place for my dog while we were traveling and did not bring it.

The homeowner met us at the house and took us around for about 30 minutes, telling us to take off our shoes, how to open and close the windows and window coverings, how to work the tv, etc.

She could clearly see we did not have a dog with us, did not ask to see a dog, did not ask about a dog, and was there when the rest of the group finished emptying the car.

When it came time to get my security deposit back, she had cashed and KEPT the check, saying she was keeping it because we brought a dog.

The terms of the contract say that after the property is found to be in good condition, the deposit would be returned. I have contact the owner, as well as VRBO, but the owner refuses to return the deposit. Further, she has not even documented what her "additional expenses" were, but simply kept the entire amount.

VRBO does not stand behind the contracts, and the owner certainly did not comply with hers.

In addition, the property was noisy with 3 different construction projects going on around it, starting at 7AM 6 days a week.

I have had good experiences using this site. Most of the listings provide more information about the rental then expected- with lots of pictures which was great.

I was trying to get a house in Santa Cruz for the weekend for about 10 friends with a lower price range and I was able to search by people, beds, and PRICE. But I have also stayed with family friends (who used vrbo.com) in an upscale condo in Mexico so I know vrbo.com offers rentals of all shapes and sizes.

The search options and contacting the owners is easy and convenient.

They charge too much so another great site that is relatively new and FREE is
http://www.adventurepads.com Sports themed but anyone(owner or property manager) can post their
Vacation rental for free. It has great functionality such as custom filters for finding a place close to the beach, and gps location for owners that own a property that doesn't show up on a map. You can also add several pictures and video…all free. The other great thing, is because the property listers are not paying the site, the reviews are NOT filtered like other paid sites. Check it out…

Cheers
Mike
