Absolute disaster. I am a watch enthusiast, and rather than send one off to a repair site, I wanted to give a local business a chance. Mine was running slowly, so off the Specialty Watch Repair (name changed to avoid linking to previous bad reviews?) I went.
Dropped off my watch four months ago. As other reviewers have noted, Randy is reluctant to provide any updates or communicate any delays, etc. The mention of "police" never failed to get his attention, however, and when I mentioned a wellness check, he became offensive. Highlights are included below:
Me: Randy,
I would like to pick up my watch (Oris, leather strap, green bezel) this week. If I don't hear from you by Friday, I will call the police to conduct a wellness check.
He replies: I think you have lost your mind. You're being so disrespectful. Parts were needed four weeks longer than I thought and I should have this completed the end of next week. You're such a disappointment trying to threaten me with the police. Sir Mr. Tilghman, if you insist on having your watch Friday, it's not gonna be completed by Friday but you're welcome to come pick it up un completed as the parts that were required were on back order and actually took almost 6 weeks to get in here from Switzerland
I reply: Sorry for the broken email. Because you never mentioned requiring back-ordered parts, and ignored two status update requests, I became concerned. I don't think this was unreasonable. If I may offer some professional advice: let the client know when to expect services to be completed. If there are unforeseen circumstances, communicate that to the client. I have been patient. It seems that you received my update requests, but ignored them until the wellness check was mentioned.
I hope that I have explained my perspective adequately.
On July 22,2024, the repair is completed, and I retrieve the watch. Unfortunately, it no longer hacks seconds. I inform RW of this for two days and I'm ignored.
I write: Randy,
So, I guess you didn't see my last couple of emails. Wish I had another way to contact you. Perhaps if I use the word "Police" again, you will respond.
As I mentioned before, the watch you repaired no longer has hacking seconds. What do you think we should do about this?
From what I've gathered from the BBB website of your customer complaints, https://www.bbb.org/us/nc/apex/profile/watch-repair/specialty-watch-repair-llc-*******7386 you will first avoid replying to me (check), and then offer me a refund.
And yes, I also read the positive reviews of your work on yelp. That's why I went to you in the first place.
So about that refund. I don't want you holding it for another four months. Let's just be done with this.
He replies: You are such a schmuck!I'm going on vacation Saturday. If you wanna bring this over today I will see what you mean by hacking seconds according to the computer that I just looked at your history. Watch is running well within specs.
I reply: By hacking seconds, I mean that when you pull the winder all the way out, the second hand doesn't stop. You know, so you can synchronize it with atomic time. This was functional when I brought it to you. Because of the risk of you further botching the job, I reiterate my refund request. I have been completely professional with you. I am also completely done with you. Refund my money so I can have it repaired.
He then tries to blame me: I know what it means and if you pull the crown out too fast a lot of times you will bend that part and venture to say that's what happened in your case. No refund available, you've been a total nasty person.
