I transfered money to Philippines 3 times with their app didn't have any problems. They gave me a good exchange rate and everything went through smoothly. 2nd time I made a slight mistake with the receivers surname and when I contacted them about it they sorted it out quickly. I don't know why all the negative reviews I found western union excellent
I will never never use Western Union again. I put a stop pay on a money order in June and still have not gotten my money back. Very unworthy company. Every time I call they tell me to wait a couple more days. It has 3 months. I wouldn't pick a star at all if I didn't have to.
In reading the reviews the general feeling is that they don't care, I've done a bit of research on them and there are two things that stick out. Firstly they are just about the only option for cash pickup they virtually have a monopoly, secondly every western union office in overseas countries has a bill paying service as many suppliers gas power etc, only accept payments from the bill service, this is probably more lucrative the the money transfer, business. (Google western union fined) will give you an idea of where their going, there heading back to the 2017 wake up call.

WU recently instituted a new policy which constitutes harassment and intrusion into personal affairs. A money transfer to my family in China which was being repeated over a year was rejected. I spent 2 hours getting to their compliance dept. which finally told me they were just checking for possible fraud and there was no issue. My money was tied up for 10+ days. I was assured by the first contact that I should not have this problem again. The second time, after 4 days I saw the transfer had not gone through and I had to call. The rep started asking personal questions about how long I knew the transferee (my wife) and even how we contacted each other, when last seen etc. The sheer arrogance! This despite the record of probably 20 transfers in your system. I finally gave up answering their personally intrusive questions and told them to cancel and return my money. This will be another 10 day wait for me. I'm done with WU for good.
Probably the worst app you could choose to transfer money by a mile.
Creating an account and sending money is very difficult and time consuming because they clearly thought I was Russian Mafia trying to send 30 euros to my girlfriend in the Philippines.
Endless security checks including photos of ID cards bank alerts etc etc ad infinitum.
Finally after endless box filling the tiny payment was approved to be put on hold immediately presumably because they need to contact the Spanish authorities of attempted money laundering. 5 hours later still on hold.
Had to send the money again by Remitly which was an absolute breeze to the delight of my Girlfriend and her immanent birthday.
Avoid it like the black death, an awful company and an awful app in all aspects.
I have sent money more than 10 days ago and on following day I requested a cancellation as there was problem with receiver's last name.
I have been trying to get my money back but they say it's been picked up which hasn't.

The lie consistently they have taken over thirty eight days to get me a refund (which has yet to be issued) for money that I transferred so a kid could go to his fathers funeral. Yes they managed to screw things up so bad that even the manager of the store that was suppose to pay out the money doesn't want to deal with them anymore. Horrible customer service that lies just to get you off the phone, promises call backs that never happen and are difficult to understand. I hate Wal Mart but I strongly encourage you to use their money transfer service over these yahoo's. At least you will be able to interact with a person at the store

DO NOT DO IT! I have spent over five hours on the phone and 38 days waiting/attempting to get a refund. I also have closed my checking account because I don't trust my information in these peoples hands! STAY AWAY I guarantee your doing yourself a HUGE FAVOR! Even if your a Wal Mart hater like me, this is one area where I advise you use their money service over this company!
I actually had used them for quite awhile sending my wife $ via bank transfer. I decided to close the account I used regularly $ was always available next day. My 1st transaction on new account took 9 days! Contacted customer care they informed me it was delayed, but showed completed on app? When asked why it was delayed the representative could not give me a answer on all 3 calls I made to customer care. I tried again with another transaction and my wife called and told me the available date for funds was 8 days out! Cancelled transaction, going to find a more reliable company. Just so you know their 800 number customer service is located in India.
I waited on the phone for 1 hour, Josie, 151 was rude as hell, he refused to help me because my phone number change, he hang up the phone and declined my request to speak with a supervisor after I provided all my information to him. I hate western union now because of him, I will delete the app and block both accounts. Unprofessional worker.
Western union stop sending money online to overseas to my relatives a few month ago. I keep calling their customer service to find out why? But no only they are bunch rude people from Pakistan, they have no clue what could be the issue for declining my transfer. I wish I could give them less than one star.

They don't update their locations, last week I drove to 3 different locations to find them closed or out of business.
I will never use their services again. If I could give minus 5 stars I would. I have tried to send two transfers using the online website during the last month. Each time, after an extensive, intrusive question and answer session my transfer was rejected. I have been a customer since 2009 and have sent many, many wires to various family members in the Philippines. The particular person I was sending to has been a receiver many times over the last over the last year. So much for "Western Union gets your funds there quickly and reliably".
I had to call western unions customer service 6 different times because each one of those that answered did not help and made things so much more complicated. And also each one of their agents were telling me different things on how to get my refund back or why my claim number wasn't working. Fortunately, the last call i made was a lady who actually understood and fixed everything for me. This took me 5 hours total from going back and forth to places that had western union and with customer service to finally getting my refund back completely.
Western union has been a terrible platform to send money. I have been using it since quite while and hoping they will improve but obviously not. Will not get to the bottom of a problem if things go wrong. Instead, will post you from pillar to post and not acknowledge their failings and shortcomings. Do not send money through this unless company! Sent money through them and they did not deliver. Kept going around in circles to avoid refunding. Fraudsters, this lot! Incompetent and so old school. Use more savvy money transfer agents. WESTERN UNION IS DEAD!

My account has been frozen and W U for 2 mths and I am offered no reason. They are not contactable unless you want to talk to someone who has broken English in India. They simply are not accountable for any action they take and I am told I have no right to be told why my account has been frozen.
This is truly a terrible company, they bang on talking in circles. I suggest that if anyone has issues with this company it would be a lot easier to switch to money gram or another sender than it is to suffer the indignity of having to deal with total incompetence and stupidity that comes from the mouths of these underpaid call centre workers who just read you $#*! off the sheet. What an abomination, the company should be closed down.

If western union are stuffing you around you may as well sign up with another provider as it will be a lot easier than trying to deal with the total incompetence that western union delivers. I have been using Western Union for many years with no issues. Now they area holding all money transfers because of scams. They don't even give you the ability to look at your account to make sure customer account information is correct. You don't even get to talk to a customer service person in the US. I will not use this company ever again. I will even let my friends know not to us them. They do not deserve a one star rating. Holding customers hostage because of other people is wrong.

I've sent a transfer from western union through my brother's bank account since June 28 2022. Western union sent me text "the transfert has been processed with expected delivery by July 07 2022"My brother went to his bank to check the transfer four times after July 7.The bank said that Western union is not associate with Western Union. I have called Western Union, the agents have driven me crazy. I will never ever take service from this money service and I will make sure my whole member of family do the same thing.
I was trying to send the money from Saudi Arabia using WU. BIG MISTAKE. They seized 5000$ of mine. They don't answer me emails. They don't answer my calls. The customer service in KSA does not exist. I am planning to hire a lawyer otherwise the money will be lost. This situation is extremely flustrating. I will never ever use this scammers again!
I am building a house in the Philippines with my wife. We are to be married in about 10 days after we get our wedding license. After sending money for 6 months and answering their stupid fraud questions every time, they decided to deny my last transfer for the last amount I tried to send. I was livid. Nothing had changed. The house is almost finished and I needed money for the wedding also. I even asked to speak to a supervisor. After a while, I got so frustrated I lost it. If they want to work for a company run by idiots, they deserved the earful they got. Then, I receive an e-mail saying the transfer went through. I didn't trust them and sent more money via WISE. I don't care if it cost me $30. It was worth not dealing with Western Union. Deposits from both Western Union and WISE arrived about 2 hours later. I didn't even have to wait a week like I do for western union. Western Union is the worst! I will never use them again.
I have not used Western Union in 5 years. I tried to send money to my relative. They flagged it for fraud. Mental $#*! customer service refused to send money even though I answered all of their security questions with 100 percent accuracy. Never do business with them.

Sent money 11 months ago. Recipient didn't receive it. Followed up refund for 6 months. They said recipient received it, which is not true. I asked for details of withdrawal transaction to help me investigate but they said case is closed and can't give me the information I'm asking for! Terrible service! Go elsewhere!
What an absolutely horrible experience. For anybody out there if you do not have to use the money order do not do it. It's an extensive process to try to get your money back if your money order was received or cashed. I always heard stories, but had my own experience, and they should just do away with them in my opinion.Please, just another way they f ck the poor.I give it a negative extremely horrible and never again! I totally understand that they want to protect us for fraud, but to have to go through hoop and hurdles and literally get asked the same questions 15 times is ridiculous. Jamaica is a hot spot so god forbid you need to send money there. I could have got on a plan and did it myself and came back the same day, then to deal with the customer service. Totally unhappy with there policy.
They used to be a good company. Their fraud department now cancels almost every legitimate money transfer after waiting one week for the transfer. Just waited two weeks for the second cancellation by their fraud department. It is a big waste of time using Western Union anymore. Switching to MoneyGram.

I'm an agent at a store that uses western union (so i help customers make their transfers and money orders and whatnot) but their customer service helpline is really not very helpful. I had a customer picking up money and the system kept giving me an error code, and i called the help line - i went through three different agents over at least 30 minutes and all they did was tell me what the error code meant (which i knew, because it says it alongside the error code….) at the very end of the call, after i had this customer waiting at the desk for 30+ minutes, the only solution they could give me was to send the customer to a different location and it should work over there. I mean, c'mon! Sometimes the system is pretty finicky, but for the most part it works fine, so i'll balance it out to three stars
