on 11/7/15I believe it's a scam. There is no correlation between how good an attny is and their avvo rating. Based upon my personal knowledge of several attorneys that i have become very familiar with since unwittingly believing avvo information i would warn people not to trust this site for an impartial assessment of attorneys.
I have no reviews for my firm. I am NOT going to ask my clients to go to a Avvo to rate me. Most of them have never even heard of Avvo. What I dislike is the overall rating. The rating is based on some other mysterious facors. One of these is experience. They give me a very low experience rating, when I've handled 1000's of cases over 28 years. My opinion is that they give attorneys who are not paying them, low ratings in the 6.5 out of 10 range. The ones that pay them get much higher ratings.
I don't know that this (advance attorney review) is the case, but the criteria for having a post accepted entails leaving specifics, so once the attorney receives notice of the review, they will know who wrote it. If it is negative, the attorney is likely to threaten the client, asserting liable. So, regardless of the veracity of one's claim, the attorney, for whom it would cost nothing, would more than likely act - like sue the client for liable. Then, the client would have to respond and prove their case to a judge. That isn't likely, which is why the site asks for things like: proof of relationship in the review and specifics. How could one actually prove that in a post? - it can't be. So, the post is rejected. But, meanwhile, the attorney, it would appear, is notified of the the review. In my case, it appears, based upon statements that the attorney made (inadvertently) that I was, in fact, her only client at the time of the review. But, for sure, the attorney is aware of the review and the website's response and actions. I contacted the company and asked specific questions, like how one could prove that they were a client, but all I got was a formulated response. I continued to pursue clarity because I wanted others to know about the unprofessional and predatory nature of the this lawyer. But, I could get no explanation or response. And, each time I would ask a question, shortly thereafter I would get an email from the attorney. I didn't open them, but the timing was absolutely consistent - I wrote to AVVO, it responded, followed by an email sent from the attorney.
Because it is an advertising site It is not Angie's list that is a consumer rated site. It's paid for and moderated by lawyers that want to protect each other at the expense of consumers warning and recommending services for others
It's not a real review site. It's a cover site to push attorney advertising.
