If you knit or crochet then you need this site for patterns, yarn reviews, friendship with other fiber artists and education in your craft. This is run by a small but amazing staff who are extremely responsive to all of your needs. And it's free!

“Not impressed”

I have only purchased one pattern through ravelry, the money was taken but I have not received the pattern. I've messaged ravelry and the designer directly through their own website and have had no response from either! Very disappointing as the pattern was lovely!

Been a Ravelry member since 2010. Love it. The folks here are supportive, kind, and encouraging. Learned everything I need to know about weaving on a rigid heddle on Ravelry. Never had a problem with purchasing a pattern. Incredible collection of patterns (many of which are free). Wonderful forums and groups on every topic. (Harry Potter knitting - you got it; Spinners who like to weave, you got it!) If you're new to Ravelry, keep in mind that the vast majority of knitters on here are individuals, not big yarn companies or knitting designers. Knitting/crochet/weaving are passions. If they post and sell patterns, the vast majority will be helpful, supportive, and honest. But they may also have day jobs, so you may not hear back from them right away. All in all, I'd recommend Ravelry to anyone that wants to learn about the fiber arts and is looking for kind supportive people to engage with.

Tip for consumers:
Don't listen to the bad reviews. Ravelry is a great site with great people.

Products used:
All the services on Ravelry. Orders patterns; Engage in forums, etc.

I've been a Ravelry member since 2011, when I decided to teach myself to knit, Ravelry has taken me from basic baby hats to my first sweater, to cable stitches and lace patterns and even intarsia! I have bought a few patterns over the years, but there are so many free ones that I can usually pick up a hat or scarf pattern that is perfect. I've learned so much about yarns, about techniques, and about the sheer joy of creativity g something beautiful with my own hands.

I've included a photo of my latest project - an angora knit cabled hat - look closely, and you can see the cable pattern is actually an owl. It only took me one evening to make. How cool is that?

Take the plunge. You will not regret it.

Ravelry is welcoming and open, and their policy banning support for white supremacy is not new.

For those who say, "but politics doesn't belong here!" I say that the arts have been political since there were artists. Pay attention.

That said, it's really pretty easy to avoid political discussions, if you're careful about the groups you join. And there are thousands of groups, for just about anything you can name. I suspect at least some of the bad reviews are coming from non-members, despite the rules against it.

Come check us out. Ravelry is, hands down, the best fiber arts community on the internet.

Way back in November 21 I purchased a knitting pattern as a gift for my cousin. I made an error in typing her email address so she never received the pattern at this time - well, actually, she never has. This is why I need to let anyone purchasing a pattern for someone - don't make any typing mistakes! I have contacted the creator of the pattern numerous times (I've lost count) and also Ravelry. I feel very disgruntled at their lack of interest in giving me (or rather my cousin) what I paid for and not even having the courtesy to respond. I am loathed to purchase it again, as why should I support someone who can't be bothered with a very minor problem. It's not the cost - it's the principal of being ignored! Not a happy bunny. I will not be purchasing from Ravelry again - shame as there are so many talented creators. Buyers beware.

I purchased a pattern 6 days ago and have yet been sent the link to download it. They have been paid according to my my bank and after over 6 emails sent to Ravelry I have received zero replies except for an automated response that someone will reply as soon as possible. Good thing I am not holding my breath. I have ordered from Ravelry in the past and did not encounter any issue but this is quite aggravating!

@handmade_with_Shaz,@Guildova Designs
The only stalker here has been a woman called Shaz. She and her several profiles even contacted people who reacted to my posts, friends and family members.
The Grand Lace Tablecloth is the diagram version from the Gelana Tablecloth by Natalia Grevtseva. This is stated by Olga self and free charts still available.
Someone took the opportunity to make up a story and claim the copyright, even when the diagram writer Olga posted it for free.
Disrespectful is to find a way to own her pattern, after 2 years of her death.

Knitting is a passion shared by a diverse group of people from all over the world. Ravelry decided to label anyone who didn't not submit and conform to their ideology and politics as either a white supremacist or as being supportive of that disgusting ideology. They have chosen to alienate a large portion of their members who won't conform. I didn't even vote for the guy! Their efforts to hid their intolerance and bigotry with the use of "pretty words" is apparent to any thinking individual. It is time for wise people to step up and denounce the brown shirt tactics being used and refuse to be silenced.

I'm a rather politically moderate person, not American, not living in North America. Ravelry lost me as a customer with it's non-stop push of super left-wing agenda. Why must there be gay and trans flags at every turn? Why did they ban patterns or write-ups supporting one political party/ candidate and not another? I used to visit the site for information about yarn, reviews of knitting patterns etc. but having to wade through endless socio-political commentary (even the commentary that I agree with) became too much. Enough is enough.

Oh, and as an aside, I am able to access my account from my android phone but with exact same sign-in information, I cannot sign in on my laptop. This technical glitch was the last straw. Bye, gurl!

Allows hate speech and threats towards conservatives, while proclaiming it as a "safe" place; excluding, while calling themselves "inclusive." Pretends to be a site for those who love knotting and crochet, but only if you agree with their liberal political stance. Total hypocrisy.

I was a long time member. Yet no more. Inclusion means accepting all for who they are regardless of belief, race, age, anything. We must find a way back to the real acceptance of all. Ravelry lost that when deciding to exclude and kick members out

For a long time now their political affiliation has been evident but not until this past few weeks had it been an unsafe place for anyone except, now, anyone of a slightly conservative bent who believes in free speech. Sure, it had potential with a good library of patterns - may one say pretty much a monopoly of online pattern sales which many designers have found to their cost. It also had the capacity for users to log their projects, insert photographs and keep track of their stash. Fortunately, nothing that can't be done better on new, more user friendly platforms. It's interesting that there had been a culling of one star reviews by this host site. Are we to expect that only the prevailing meme will be accepted? I'm not American but as a conservative thinker this was an unsafe site for me.

While at one point in time ravelry was a great sadly that is no longer the case. The site has been out dated for sometime. It is not easy for newcomers to use. When searching for a pattern I often got results that didn't even match my query. Then ravelry had to go all political and ban one certain group of people because their opinion differs. All this combined just doesn't make for a very good website platform anymore.

This site labels, censors and bans people who have views that differ from them. They caused a great divide among knitters, designers and yarn companies, resulting in financial loss and emotional pain.

What more needs said? This isn't a fiber arts community. It's a political website with a radical left leaning agenda. They make no room for anyone who disagrees and even allow and promote mob mentality of people going after those they disagree with. I deleted my account due to the hateful atmosphere. I'm not a right winger, but this site is out of control for anyone that doesn't cut/copy/paste their politics.

I will start with the positives. A huge library of both pay for patterns and free patterns. I place to store your project notes. Forums to communicate with groups of people who have the same interests.
I will now move on to the negatives. Over the years, Ravelry has practiced its free speech by posting very polarizing content. I believe this encouraged strife, though most (not all) stayed silent. Ravelry then decided that it could dish it out but could not take it. Ravelry updated their policy. It basically said that if you are not on their side then you either keep your mouth shut or be banned. Though many had kept their mouth shut, for the sake of peace, have decided that this was going too far. I deleted my account.

Once my go-to site for all things knitting and crochet... now an unwelcoming and even hostile site to anyone who does not agree with the political leanings of the owners. Anti-America projects are allowed to remain and be prominently displayed on the front page. While Christian and Pro-America items are labeled and removed as Hate Speech. It is from my personal experience and from their own publicly published statements that this review has been written.

A site that claims to be "inclusive"; But bans anything or anyone pro-Trump. They went nuts over a knitted Trump 2020 hat but allows F^# Trump items. How about if you don't like it scroll on by like we did with the Pu$$~ hats?

I have been a member of Ravelry for over 10 years, and have always loved their pattern library and their yarn resources. However, no resource, no matter how good, is worth dealing with regular attacks on people against their faith, their belief systems, or their voting history. I came there to knit. I left, because I'm a human being first. Is it so hard to treat each other with love and respect? To listen to another point of view apart from our own? I hope they change their attitudes soon, but given the management is the worst of the bunch, it's doubtful.

I deleted my Ravelry account when I was called a white supremacist and racist by the owners. I'm a crocheter of Puerto Rican heritage who walked away from the Democratic Party and voted for Trump (after voting for Obama in his first term). Don't know why this is even an issue on a craft site, but the people who claim to be so tolerant only tolerate people who are part of the same group think. This website is an unfriendly place and will only add stress to your life. Don't bother with it!

I used to buy a ton of patterns and buy from Amazon through their link. Now I don't. Their supposed motto is "Be excellent to each other" but if you dare ask a question, be prepared to be attacked and possibly become fodder for a bunch of horrible, mean people with zero lives. Some of these "mean girls" will follow everything you do on Ravelry and make nasty comments. Ravelry lost all the money I was sending their way because apparently only a few people should be excellent; everyone else gets a free pass to be nasty and mean. Until it cleans house of all of the constant bullying and negativity, they won't see another penny from me.

I was part of the Ravelry community for years. While there, I overlooked groups, statements, projects, and profile pictures that I found offensive or vulgar. Choosing instead to utilize their pattern database and mind my own business. Unfortunately, their move to censor and ban certain groups who did not agree with their ideology, while ignoring the vitriol of those who did was too much. Therein lies a slippery slope that I want no part of. Of note: This site claims to be inclusive but they have a management staff that is 100% white. How is that "inclusive"?

As a conservative, I have never felt welcome there. Not even 10 yrs ago, WAY before Trump. They have an awesome library of patterns, that is true. But it isn't worth being told to Shut Up and Stay out of the forums. AND I didn't know that I was a White Supremacist, thank you for telling me that.

This site is really cool if you are a crafter. I love to crochet and there are so many great patterns on here. There are many great free ones, but I wish there were a little more that were free. Also, there have been a few instances where the links they have didn't go to the actual pattern, which sucks when you have decided on your next project. Overall it is a good site though.
