We wanted to pay off the mortgage on the home my husband's mother lived in after she passed away. The home is in my husband's name but the mortgage was in her name. Bank of America told him they can't speak to him he has to go through probate to get the name changed to his. So he did that and the name and address on the account was changed to his. After doing that it took three months to get it paid off and to receive the escrow refund. Here's what happened:

1. They gave us the wrong payoff amount.
2. When we received next months mortgage bill instead of a payoff letter I went online and got the correct amount and paid it.
3. We got the letter saying the loan had been paid off and we would get the escrow refund within 20 days.
4. When we didn't get the refund after 30 days I went on line and found it was sent on the 20th day (very last day they had to legally send it).
5. Called them to say we never received the check and they said it was sent to the prior address. It would have been forwarded since we had mail forwarding. They said we had to wait 20 days after the check was sent to get a replacement.
6. Waited the proscribed time, called them and they said they'll send the replacement check.
7. My husband didn't trust the person he spoke to so he called the next day and was told there was no record of a replacement check being sent and they would send it.
8. Two weeks later we got the replacement check with the correct address but with his mother's name on it even though his name was on the account and hers had been removed.
9. Called them and they said we have to go through probate to get the name changed. Told them we already did, please look at the file. Ok she sees it. My husband asks her to verify the address, she reads our correct address back.
10. Two weeks later we received the check with his name on it and the old address. (The mail was forwarded to our correct address.)

Well I visited today Bank of America 988 Third Avenue NY *******, as i got appointment regarding my mortgage appointment, but my advisor Jonathan A hammer (NMLS ID *******), this person start accusing and shouting on me straight away, that you visited 2 other mortgage advisors in other Bank of America branches before, why you did that and I dont want to serve you, this person hammer was tracking all my previous appointments which is criminal offence, discussing my financial personal data with his other colleagues in bank of america without my consent, when i visited him with my brother for my appointment instead of discussing my mortgage options he start shouting didn't even let me talk calling some other manger on his personal phone in some other bank of america branch i spoke with that manger as well as he was sharing my personal information with him as well, it was one of my worse experience in my life today iam reporting Jonathan A. Hammer behavior to bank of america customer service team i hope i get some justice.

After 30 years of being with Bank of America I had to deposite a paper check from my company for te first time after having direct depoesites from the same company on the same day for over a year (company went with differetn bank), Bank of America decided in this economy that they needed to hold my "paper check" deposite for 8-1o days to "verify." How are people supposee to live whrn you cant even trust your own bank of 30 plus years to not hold YOUR MONEY in their own bank prison at their discression. After speaking with three supervisors all they could say was "i'm sorry mam this is the bank's policy." I will not be banking with any company that is goint to hold my paycheck for 8-10 days to Verify. DO BETTER BANK OF AMERICA!

I'm a 17 year combat Veteran of the United States Army. I got out on a medical discharge I have a job where I got injured at now had surgery and go to work conditioning so I can go back to work: I take Lyft or Uber the the therapy, Lyft charged me twice Troyes dealing with them through the app due to no number this put my account low so I wouldn't be able to get a Lyft or Uber home needless to say I have my service dog with me. I called Bank of America after 3 hours of trying to get ahold of Lyft, I spoke with on representative said he couldn't do anything and sent me to the fraud department I was told the lady that my service dog and I were stranded over an hour away from home and it's cold and raining out, the lady proceeded to give me the run around. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she asked me for my number knowing that If she got off the phone that I wouldn't get a supervisors call till the morning or at least for 24 hours. I held for the supervisor who was very rude and ignorant his name was Mark, I explained the situation to him and he said there was nothing he could do, I also explained to him that I don't have any of my meds. Marc basically said it's not his problem, so I replied him and said I hope is warm and sleeps well knowing that this is not my fault, Marc replied it's not his problem that a Vet and his service dog are out on the streets with no meds and in the rain all night and will sleep well, be warm and have no regrets. I would pick another bank and remind every teller that it was wrong how they treated a 17 year combat vet.

Horrible Business
October 14, 2020

I just recently moved to Nebraska from New York, I opened due to the COVID I lost my job, and life, So I moved to Nebraska with my grandchildren and son who serves in the United States Air Force to get back on my feet. I found a work from home job, in order for me to get paid I had to have direct deposit so I opened an account online with Bank Of America. My first check went direct deposit. When I signed into my account I accidently put in the wrong code, they locked out and told me to call a number. When I called the number they told me that they believed that there was some fraud going on and I needed to go into the branch and show identity. Well unfortunately there are no branches close to were I live, so I can't come into the branch. I explained to them the whole situation and told them that I needed my money so I can live. And even broke down and cried. I don't at this point have any money and am broke. I need my money and my first check got deposited in this account at BOA. THEY TOLD ME I'M NOT WHO I AM AND CLOSED MY ACCOUNT and said they'll mail me a check. What am I to do for 10 days waiting for that check to come in the mail. I need gas to go cash it. Wtf. Bad business so now because they think I'm a fraud I have to wait for them to send me my hard working money. It's not okay.

Awful client communication
September 18, 2020

I had deposited my check through the atm as I do every week after I looked at my receipt it said a hold had been placed on my check NO not for a few days for two weeks so I called one person said oh they couldn't validate the check just call the bank it's drawn on if they validate it the hold should be removed call nothing wrong with account as I am the payroll person for that company anyway and already new this so I call again get another person oh no doesn't work that way it goes through a process and comes back to us and we can't remove the hold I said I've been depositing checks from this company for 7 years you have never had a problem now all of a sudden you flag one and I have to wait two weeks my account wasn't negative there was money in there why would this be no one could give a straight answer other than oh I'm sorry I can't do anything about it I said if it was your money you had two kids and had bills to pay I'm sure you would find a way absolutely worse service and not a single person had the same answer I talked to 3 people I could understand if it was a personal check but a payroll check and to put a hold on it from the 12 to the 23 is a little rediculous

I made the mistake of letting my husband borrow my cell phone. So, to log into my bank account, I needed my email, PLUS a debit card, and the debit card PIN number. There was a problem with my PIN number, so I called Bank of America. What a NIGHTMARE! Since I didn't call them from my cell phone, but instead the landline, they kept asking for a phone access code. I was like, what the he** is that? I somehow finally got through to a real person after a lot of wrangling. I told her I didn't remember the PIN number to my debit card, and she kept trying to authenticate and verify my identity, and had lots of trouble doing so. What ever happened to just giving someone the last 4 digits of your social, or your mother's maiden name? I told her I didn't know my phone access code. She then asked for my verbal password, which I have NEVER heard of. And she told me I would have to have a temporary phone access code and temporary PIN for that, and then I would set up a permanent access code. What the? Finally my husband got home with my phone. Now I'm like, God HELP me if I ever lose my cell phone. I just cannot follow all of the different codes, PIN numbers, ID's, passwords, etc ect. I realize a bank needs a lot of security, but really? It was very difficult to finally get through to a real person. I'm going to have my husband get a cell phone (he doesn't have one), just to prevent this nightmare in the future. Bank of American relies way too much on AI and automation and all the different codes. There is a user ID and password to login to your bank account, but separate codes (phone access ID's, access ID PIN numbers, verbal passwords) to give people just to talk to them on the phone. Too many codes! VERY confusing and stressful.

BOA is not in all states
February 9, 2022

Before you consider dealing with BOA please notice first if they are physically located in your state. If they aren't, you will need to do banking by phone, and that will consume hours of your day as they pass you from one division to another while you are 'on hold' on the phone.
I was told that I could identify myself easier to the bank's computer when I needed to verify myself if I applied for a debit or credit card. I didn't need one, but it was such a hassle to log in that I applied for one. It never worked during the months I had it— neither for verification nor for making purchases though I did try to check why it was useless.
Please notice carefully the interest rates this bank pays in comparison to other banks. You may find that you can do better elsewhere, perhaps with a credit union. Also, if you are interested in certificates of deposit, BOA has rules to make you scream with frustration: To close a CD, you must speak to that department not more than one day before the CD expires and only within about three days after it expires, or you will be locked in for another eighteen months. I could go on and on, but I will just mention that it took me in excess of six months to get BOA to close my accounts, though my requests to do so eventually turned into a demand to do so, and I was getting the impression that I might need a court order just to close my ordinary checking and savings accounts. I still don't actually have the proceeds YET. There are many knowledgeable and nice workers at BOA, but their bank has a lot of customer-unfriendly rules. I can honestly say that in my five decades of banking experience with many banks, to include international ones, BOA is one to consider VERY CAREFULLY before you get yourself and your money involved.

I had to change my card after a website for appliance repair turned out to be Scammers (see another review I did) and over the weekend my HP printer broke down, and I needed a card to buy one for my office to be able to ship, buy postage, invoice, etc. The person who talked to me about the new card was not trained to tell me I would NOT HAVE A CREDIT CARD TO USE until the physical card came in the mail, which takes 5 plus days. She said I could immediately find the number of the new card on the BofA website, omitting the fact that it would be useless until the card arrived as they cannot give the 3 digit code over the phone. I found this out Monday, when I was in the queue from hell for 2 hours. The voice mail requires the "3 digit" number to proceed. Finally I got to talk to someone by trial and tribulation and got it escalated to have another card sent by UPS in 1-3 days. I think they should have let me keep the old card active until the new one arrived, but they don't think about the customer. I got called the next morning from their "resolution team" with a phone no. To call. When I called the phone no. They required a six digit extension or "please review the message to find the "extension" but there was none. I called and got the case escalated after they heard about the entire ordeal, and thought I would just be waiting for the card... and then someone else called from "resolution" with the phone no but no extension. BofA just wants your money, they don't give good service, there are no offices or atms for four miles and the closest one has closed early for the day the last time I needed to do banking there. Their phone system and poorly trained employees wasted four hours of my time in the last two days, and my office is stymied.
Ever since Covid banks think they don't have to give you personal service and rely on bad phone systems. BofA is the worst.
