Best Buy has a rating of 2.6 stars from 1,796 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Best Buy ranks 993rd among Electronics sites.
I've been super lucky and found some great deals on open box items via the website. Got my son a pretty spectacular gaming laptop for Christmas at around 60% off the regular price.
Overall, Best Buy is a complete joke. I've complained to the Better Business Bureau about this company. They are complete rip off. I can't wait until Amazon buys them out and they shut down. They literally stole a package and refused to give me my money back. I found the police report, and they never refunded me for the amount. Then for complaining, they placed me on a no online order or store delivery order List as if I would purchase from them again.
Best Buy has a lot of selections available for me when I shop for games, electronics, and computer accessories or parts. Their customer service personnel are very friendly and helpful.
Surprisingly, Best Buy sometimes has great deals on certain items. I've also pre-ordered a couple of video games through them. I've regretted choosing the free option and shipping to home because it takes their Fed-Ex + USPS almost a week and a half (or two weeks if it's holiday season) to get to me by mail. Of course I realize upgrading shipping options would guarantee faster times but I have a feeling that even with the Fed-Ex + USPS method of shipping, there are tiers and Best Buy must be the cheapest tier because every other retailer that might use UPS/Fed-Ex + USPS has come in under a week, usually 3-4 days. Basically, free shipping is free shipping after all but it would have been easier to just pickup items at their store.
I purchased an 86" LG TV, had it installed by Best Buy in 2020. Within that year, the panel went out... luckily it was under warranty. There is only a one year warranty. Offered. They don't offer extended warranties. I've had this TV since September 2020 and by March 2022 (1 1/2 years) the panel went out and because the warranty was expired, it will cost me over $1500 to fix. My concern is, if I pay for yet another panel, what is to say there isn't something wrong with the tv that is causing the panel to stop working. I would think that after only a year and a half, Best Buy would make an effort to make this right. A $2000 tv should last longer than 1 1/2 years. Trying to speak with management was next to impossible as I was passed around from person to person who continually told me there was nothing they could do for me... but when I asked to speak to someone higher up to plead my case, I was given the run around. Very disappointed. I have many products in my home that are LG (and I even called them, but they said there was nothing they could do). How sad that neither LG or Best Buy will stand by their products and replace something that should not discontinue working. This large tv literally takes up the entire wall, is never touched (remote control use only). I'm really saddened as I just can't afford to replace this TV, which was initially purchased as a gift from my kids after losing my husband (movie date nights were our favorites and knowing it would be emotionally difficult to go to the movies... they wanted to bring the movies home for me). Best Buy... I thought better of you!
I purchased a Galaxy S7 with the VR goggles wish I had read the reviews but what a piece of junk, error messages I finally decided to return the phone. I went to our local Best Buy and the sales person said that I had to ship it back the way I got it, Well I asked for the manager the manager tried to pull the same thing, but at the bottom of my receipt it states if you are not happy you can return to any store. The manager was pissed but took it with my receipt in hand I left. I waited a week and there was no credit Got paypal involved what ever the dude at Paypal said with in 2 days the credit showed up thanks Paypal.
Best Buy was once THE destination for electronics. Not any more. They have changed the thrust of their operations but they have had to with the onslaught of on line retailers such as Amazon, Ebay, Egghead, vying for sales. First of all you are met with a person at the door that is watching a theft deterrent screen. That's an immediate turn off. I understand why they do it but I don't like seeing it. The associates are usually young and for the most part not as knowledgeable as could/should be. My guess is they attract that talent based on their pay scales. I think that is why Circuit City eventually failed. I have to be honest though, I do not go into their store much anymore because of the plethora of info and products available on line. I was also turned off in the past by their return policy. I don't know if it is still the same but even if you paid with a debit card you had to wait for your money to be refunded. They also push extended warranties hard at the register which is aggravating.
I've ordered online and shopped in store with BB for many years and they are really great.
If there is any problem, they fix, replace or refund very quickly.
Love best buy whether I take in my computer, buy something from the store, or order online it's always a smooth transaction. Great store. Good people, friendly and helpful.
The store had this "12 days of deals" event which included getting your items by Christmas. I spent a few hours looking for "deals" and ended up with several items including a much advertised discounted 55" TV! Their site indicated that the nearby store had all those items so I chose to pick them up there. Next day I received notification the items were ready... all but the discounted 55" TV! Apparently they were having a hard time fulfilling that order due to unavailability. The same TV was still showing as available at the same store but with a lesser discount! At first the message was they would try to fulfill soonest, then hours later message changed to fulfilling within a month and of course if unable, they'd cancel the TV order. I thought it was a mistake since the website still indicated the store had it! Then I goggled around and discovered this was a trend/pattern bb uses, with possible cancellation as the end result. Shocked big store like bb can stoop this low so shame on you for wasting a customers' time and misleading with flashy "sales" when you can't keep your end of the bargain
UPDATE: Day after the above review, message came that the TV was now available for pick up. Unfortunately, after their January delivery message, I gave up and found an alternative. The company needs to fix the disconnect between Bestbuy online and the stores. Customers shouldn't suffer because their inept internal processes.
Really fast shipping and the price was really dirt cheap. Some of the best deals you will find online. Imo worth five stars and even more. I keep coming back so that says a lot.
Sent my ordered laptop to wrong address, cutumer service gave me a one month run around before telling me they will not refund or replace my order. Im out $800 it took months to save.
Tip for consumers:
Dont buy from bestbuy

None, i never got what i ordered
During a lock down time it's the best service for me for buying cool gadgets. I took off one star because sometimes a package arrives with some damages
So Best Buy has been the leading name in electronics for a long time now, but they could feel that name was being taken away from them by Amazon. You see, what people would do is, try the product out at Best Buy, return the item, and them buy it off of Amazon at a lower price. What did Best Buy do to counter this, did they crack down on their return policy and make even their loyal customers suffer? No! They instead decided to CREATE value by adding their credit card which allows you to buy something in the store and pay it off over a 18-month period with NO INTEREST! That's just GOOD BUSINESS!
I bought a Computer program to transfer vcr tapes to disc and decided not to. Never opened (1 week later)and they would only store credit me for another purchase! Beware, I call them fishers!
I went to best buy looking for a memory card 9000 series Nvidia. They had only the lowest power in stock that actually was no better than I already had in my 4 year old computer. They ended up ordering my card and power pack on line to be delivered to my home... THINGS I COULD HAVE DONE MYSELF had I know they didn't carry the newest, bestest items. Just disgusting that this store has nothing useful except the security guard posted at the exit of the store.
Best buy is Worst buy. They steal you money, this is facts. I ordered a desktop pc and they didn't have a problem accepting my $1800, so here comes delivery day and mind you the package needed a live signature. So tracking info stated package was delivered and signed by me which was impossible i was at work, so i get home no package and i reach out to worst buy and they tell me there is nothing they can do package was delivered and this situation is closed and final. Yup that easy and no support from them at all. They did not speak with me at all, left me all alone sniffing on that girl named crystal, it was fire too. Anyways i have no way of trying to get anything back and left with $1800 gone and nothing to show for it. Best buy has no ethic, no customer support and for sure 1 less customer. I really despise them as they didn't consider me or even look into who really singed the package. I stay in the los Angeles area and ask you to skip on do business with them and spread the word that best buy are a bunch of thieves.
Tip for consumers:
Dont trust best but , they think they are above all of us. dont shop with best buy trust me

Well I can say that when I need something for computer/stereo/ipod etc. I know they will most likely have it for me:)
They are helpful & Great Customer service is what I have received from them.
Thanks BEST BUY I am glad your still in business!
I had bought 3 "Geek Squad Certified" TVs a couple of years ago, but couldn't use one of them so I stored it away without even opening it. Recently I set it up to use... nothing but a broken screen image with a bunch of odd patters... useless. I took it in to the store..."call corporate", which I did. No help, it has been too long.
Beware of "Geek Squad Certified" products. TEST them right away. CHECK EVERYTHING YOU BUY IMMEDIATELY, or money down the drain.
PLUS, I have tried using Geek Squad a couple of times at $100 a pop... NO HELP whatsoever.
I think Best Buy has had more products that didn't work right out of the box than any other I have ever bought from. The return process at the store is often painful.
Don't even bother ordering anything with Best Buy. One star only because zero is not an option. I purchased a laptop on 11/8 to be delivered overnight and when it didn't come the next day, I reached out to their chat support. They clearly saw the laptop had not been sent, so they issued a new one to be shipped. I waited for three days since that is what the new notice indicated. It still did not show up. I contacted them again. This time they said it was awaiting "verification". Why? It was already paid for and it clearly had not been shipped. Supposedly, they escalated the ticket and I was supposed to receive an update in 24-48 hours. Guess what... no notification/update. I contacted them again today. Now the story is that they can't do anything about my order until Nov 26th. Why?!?!? That is the date the email notice I received last week said it would automatically cancel my order! They are still selling the laptop online so I assume they still have stock. I can't even order a new one and just cancel the old order because the price changed after all of this waiting and it is now more expensive. The whole thing just feels shady.
I ordered an oven from Best Buy last month and I will never order another appliance from them again. The day of delivery I waited at home but no one arrived or called to give me an update during the delivery window. I had to call best Buy Customer Service and wait on hold till they could contact the distributor. I was informed that they were running an hour and a half behind schedule. Two hours later while out picking up my children from school I received a call from the delivery men saying "we will be there in 15 minutes and you'd better be ready for us". Needless to say I was furious that I had waited all morning and now they had the nerve to tell me I'd better be ready. The oven was delivered and installed but a few days later when reading the user's manual I realized they did not install the anti-tip bracket on the oven which is required by Federal law for safety reasons. I contacted customer service once again and made an appointment to have the anti-tip bracket installed. Fast forward to the morning of my appointment and I receive a phone call from he technician asking what he is supposed to be doing for me. When I told him I needed the anti-tip bracket installed he told me he doesn't have them and won't be able to take care of it today. I am seriously disappointed in the Best Buy Customer Service experience.
DON'T TAKE YOUR MAC FOR HARDWARE ISSUES! I was having an intermittent issue with my battery not charging on my MacBook Air.
And it died early yesterday afternoon. Went on the Geek Squad web site to schedule an appointment. I answered it is a MAC, I did have hardware problems and my battery would not charge. Could not get in until 8:00 that night.
So I went in and the tech took one of their cords, plugged it in and it did not work. So she told me that they would have to ship to KY (they do NO Mac hardware work locally - Tucson, AZ) for diagnosis. That would take a week and I could hope to get it back in 2 weeks! WHAT?
So I went to an authorized Apple service center.
Turns out there was a small spec of paint (I am an artist) stuck in the charger port. 2 minutes and $30 later my Mac is completely healed.
Not all my experiences with Geek Squad have been negative, I have to say I've been helped by two techs in particular who were friendly and very helpful, but I would only ever use Geek Squad as a last resort.
I recently went to them because my computer was acting up. After being unable to make any fixes during the consultation, the guy told me for $150 I can have my computer diagnosed and that would take maybe a week. I'm a college student and this was around finals so having a week without my computer was unacceptable. The tech also tried to convince me how great it would be because they would include or have something about online/phone/in-store support. That's absolutely useless for me and I told the guy as much.
My boyfriend looked at my system and almost completely fixed my issues. My complaint isn't that I would have to pay for the service, I understand what a business is, but for $198 I bought a tablet computer to use for work while keeping my slow/iffy computer for casual internet browsing and gaming rather than shell out $150 and maybe get my problem fixed. I have a feeling their fix would involve restoring my system and having my lose all my stuff unnecessarily.
Again, I don't doubt that these people can fix your systems, but I always feel like I'm getting ripped off.
I made a mistake to purchase a few items from them. Dec 2018 it was two phones and insurance. My credit card got stolen in 2019 so I needed to update my card number. Waiting on the phone for an hour to get to talk to a human is one thing. Talking to someone who's in Philippines and doesn't speak good English is the second layer of complexity. Poor training and no common sense of these workers is the prize that waits for you at the end. They are reluctant to connect you to a supervisor (in the US) and just keep telling you that they can fix the issue but they can't. After 5 calls and nearly 4 hours of waiting they were able to update my card info. They needed to update the card for both phones. They did it for one only and a week later sent me another email saying that my protection is no longer active because they cant charge the card. I called again, refused to waste my time with the rookies and insisted to talk to a supervisor. After 45 min on the phone, finally was connected with someone in the US who was able to fix the issue. I also had 2 old (since 2013) accounts that had to be deleted. She said it has to be a different department. Just another 45 min and explaining the situation to 3 more idiots and I was able to get this done too. Geek squad or not I just don't care anymore. Will never buy anything from them again.
I live on UK, but on each time i travel to America, is a must to check the deals on Best Buy, on my trips always i found a good deals on the stores and great help from the people there. My experience was good and i recommend always Best Buy as retailers.
We have a Geek Squad service contract (but not for much longer). We had them do a home visit to check out our high-end gaming computer. The guy did very little actual diagnostic, and then told us we should have the thermal paste replaced because it was over heating. But he couldn't do it in-home because they aren't allowed to and to take it into the store. So we called the store and they said they aren't allowed to do it because if they mess it up there might be liability. I asked if that meant they weren't competent to do it, and they said they were competent, but that they weren't allowed to do it in case they mess it up. Bottom line, they tell you things that aren't true and they are incompetents. Don't waste your time and money on them.
