After 10+ years of having BetterPhoto for my professional photography studio's website I can't imaging not using BP. I have taken several courses from multiple instructors that took my portraits to the next level. In the past, BP has offered a buy one year, get one free! This is BIG! There's no other website host that offers all the options at such a great price. I constantly receive compliments on the ease of navigation from my clients which is a huge benefit when online proofing. You won't find a better website host with better support than BetterPhoto. Thank you to Jim and the crew at BP. I look forward to many more years of using your services.

At one time this was a good site for hosting a photo website. No longer. I'm unable to update my bio photo and text. The text that I enter correctly shows up run together on my website. I don't dare try to edit my selection of photos. It's almost impossible to find contact information. They do respond to an email (always during the night, so I suppose they are half way around the world) and say they'll send the issue on to their tech team. They're just kidding, although not kidding when they want your money. Stay away.

I don't dare try to edit my selection of photos. It's almost impossible to find contact information. Ordered a Silver Subscription from BetterPhoto which included a website and Got Nothing. No website, no gallery - Nothing. Paid $169 and all I got was a headache. They did make promises but again didn't get anything. They did ask for more money for a classic gallery which is included in the price I paid - it says online that the Silver includes the Bronze plus more including an optional website that I paid for. It's been two weeks since I ordered and the promise online says two days. A second promise went unfulfilled as well. Buyer beware. I think this site was once very good and it has gone downhill and lots of people have left and have complained on other sites.

Products used:
None - I paid for a Silver subscription which a website and got nothing - no gallery, no website - nothing.

I've been a member of betterphoto.com for at least 10 years. They host my website and have done a wonderful job. They are going through an enhancement of their site at the moment and I know when it is complete it will be great. I would not be the photographer I am without Betterphoto.com. Can't say enough good things.

Scam. After you pay there is nothing to gain.

All classes are for beginners. The guy that runs the site is not even a photographer.

There is NOTHING to gain. The "contests" are questionable and have no prizes like other sites. The "winners" often are photos that are out of focus, bad composition, look like graphic design computer generated images but not photos, cheesy rip off photos such as "an arm and hand stretched out holding a baby" (copied about a million times), yet some really really excellent photos but those photographers have not taken any Betterphoto classes. They came to the site as excellent photographers. I have spoken to many of them.

So many bird photos that you would think it is a bird web site not a photo site.

The people who run the site are useless and will not answer question, but they sure will try to sell you more things!

Pointless to join.

Stay away.

Join another site.

The written materials for this course were very good and the instructor's critiques and responses to my questions were helpful (although I am still waiting two weeks later for the critique of my assignment submitted on March 4 and a response to a question).
However, as the only student in the course I clearly did not get close to my money's worth. Among the benefits of the courses Better Photo promotes are receiving input from other students on your work, observing and commenting on their work, seeing their questions, and seeing the instructor's critiques of their work and responses to their questions. I received none of these benefits. I could have received the benefit I got from the course buy purchasing a good book for a small fraction of the $200 cost.
In short, I feel short-changed. I believe I should have been advised that I would be the only student and offered some other options.

Their customer service is non-existent. This USED to be a good site, but the guy Jim Miotke who started it has gotten too big for his britches it seems. I was a member for years and had one of their deluxe websites. I wrote countless emails to them with a question and have NEVER been answered, although my inbox gets filled with emails from them every single day, boasting about how their courses are getting filled up, etc. It's too bad because at the beginning this was a valuable learning resource. This site and its developer/owner are a perfect example of how moderate success can ruin things for their customers. All they seem interested in now are the courses they offer, which are questionable in value, since many of the things are on YouTube for free! Don't get hoodwinked by this site.

I've been with BP since the early 2000's, made lots of friends, learned (from the friends, and Jim Miotke) many photo things. The classes have always been fun, interactive, and full of learning activities. It's been a bit slow the last couple weeks, but, that's because Jim is working hard getting the site more easily accessible, and faster responding. I'm paid up thru 2026, and, unless I die before then, plan on sticking with them.

I actually enjoyed betterphoto.com - 4 or 5 years ago. Now there are no more instructors, no diversity of classes, nothing of any interest beyond that of absolute beginners. I think there are only four offerings now, all of which I outgrew a few years ago.

WHAT HAPPENED? It once had promise; now it's showing all the signs of a failing project that is quickly fading into obscurity.

I've been a member for ten years and love it! When I first bought my camera, I came across a beginner photography book by owner, Jim Miotke. That encouraged me to join BetterPhoto, and I have never been sorry. In the early years, I took as many classes as possible, worked hard to improve my skills, had a tremendous amount of fun. I enjoy it now as much as ever. The members are all kind, willing to share, and the amount of talent is incredible. I feel that I have made lifelong friends who understand my passion for taking photos, and they constantly inspire me with their amazing images. Jim has always been supportive, helpful, and has responded in a timely manner to any questions I've had. The site is currently in a big upgrade, and I know the results will be terrific. Couldn't be happier with BP!

I've been a BetterPhoto member for at least 15 years. It's a website where the more you're involved such as discussions or commenting on other people photos, the more you get out of it. Jim Miotke, the owner, is always asking for feedback to improve the experience. This website was recently upgraded to handle concerns from BP Members. When I've emailed BP Support with an issue it was resolved within 24 hours. I started out as a beginner and am now an advanced amateur. Much of my improvement came from BP Classes and other experiences on this website. Currently, with very little time for photography due to a heavy work schedule, I still enter the monthly contest. This experience alone is worthwhile because you can be your own critic in deciding what to enter; and, with the opportunity to obtain different levels of badges, there is professional feedback as well. I think BP is worthwhile for a beginner to a pro, for websites, feedback, and networking with other photographers.

I have been a member of Better Photo (BP) since 2002. I love the community and all the beautiful photos from all around the world. They have a great photo contest each month and you get a gallery in which to post your photos.

Betterphoto took me from a beginner photographer to an advance photographer. I literally had zero confidence in my work and am now confident that my work is Excellent. The contest is easy to enter. Fellow photographers are so encouraging and supportive. I would definitely recommend Betterphoto and have.

I have taken 20 courses over the years and have made some good friends. Jim is very involved and answers when you contact him. I have submitted many pictures over the years and have always gotten good feedback. I am sad that the instructors are no longer offering classes. Unfortunately at this time I am not able to travel and shoot interesting places but I still stay in touch. Hang in there, Jim.

For the professional insight a student gets and the immediate improvement in their learning curve the classes are excellent and reasonably priced. I am taking several classes and enjoy each. I have become a better photographer because of BetterPhoto.com and its staff.

Wasn't a fan of betterphoto.com. I don't think they do anything to make online learning more interesting and useful than any other online learning company. The instructor for my class was knowledgeable about the camera but couldn't really get involved. Felt kind of like the class was an "our way or the highway" steamroller kind of approach. Didn't learn very much unfortunately.

My first introduction to Jim Miotke was through his book, The BetterPhoto Guide to Digital Photography, many years ago. Since then, I have discovered his online website and, now, three of his courses. They are priced reasonably and a great way to improve my skills and get my creative juices going. I highly recommend Jim's BetterPhoto courses as a great way to learn more and do more.

Great for amatures - There's a lot of options from beginners on up.
If the courses offered are as comprehensive as the site one would learn a great deal.
The pull downs made manuevering easy.

Great inspiration through amazing photos, friendly community, and educational courses! I've been a member since 2004. My skill has improved through the inspiration and constructive feedback of the other photographers and from the fun courses! I've taken several courses over the years and truly enjoyed learning along side of other beginners receiving wonderful feedback from the instructor and fellow students.

When I've emailed the owner questions, I've received prompt responses that are professional and courteous. He seems to be very interested in your feedback to make BetterPhoto a great experience for the beginner photographer as well as the professional.

The monthly contest is a lot of fun! You can enter daily into various categories such as landscape, people, still life, elements of design, animals, and more. The other members are friendly and encouraging by commenting on your photos. Your photos may be recognized as Photo of the Day, or a Finalist, or even win the Category, or better yet, the Grand Prize! Either way it's so much fun to see the work of other photographers, veteran and new alike.

You know how your family doesn't seem to understand when you are on vacation and you want to be out the door at 5:30 am to drive up the long mountain road to a very secluded spot to set up your gear for the perfect horizon, sunrise shot? Or when you're out to dinner one evening and you want them to finish their dinner quickly because the golden hour light is perfect?! You're not sure what you're going to photograph, but the light is perfect for a good photo :). The people of the BetterPhoto community get you! They'll encourage you. They'll inspire you. They'll help you be better at what you love. Would recommend 10 out of 10!
