I could not get Britbox to work on my Smart TV as I have for 5 other streaming services. I gave up. No issues, I thought, I was still in my 7 day free trial. So following their "how to cancel" instruction did not work, the option / menus are simply not there. So back and forth in their help line has resulted in them charging me for their service. It feels like I am in the middle of a scam. (This review platform forced me to place one star as a rating which I do not want to do)
While I love the content, I haven't been able to consistently watch shows for over a month. For some reason, the application stopped working with Roku TVs. The response is always that there will be a fix in the upcoming weeks, but they have no idea when.
I love BritBox and have watched through Roku for years without any problems. However I recently purchased and watched it through Amazon Prime where I ran into some tech issue. After five emails explaining the problem to BritBox customer service asking them to send it to their tech people. Email after email I kept being told how to fix problems that had nothing to do with the one I very clearly explained to them. The rep was clueless, my emails should have been sent up a tier of tech support, which they obviously did not do because the glitch is still there. Worthless customer service but still worth the money.
I signed up for the free trial. I began trying to cancel the next day. It is simply not possible to do so unless you cancel your card and do it from that end. Password reset links do not get sent to spam or regular email. Customer service does not respond. When you try to start over, it says you already have an account. I've had many services and this is by far the worst.
I'm enjoying BritBox immensely. Love every show I've seen. No tech problems at all. I'm on Shakespeare and Hathaway right now and the laughs are loud at my house! This show is outstanding. Please keep it all coming. We love BritBox. Better than American TV for sure!
I contacted them immediately the day I was billed and was told that there was nothing they could do to cancel my service for the next month. While I realize I was a day late in trying to cancel, most decent companies would provide some sort of goodwill gesture of customer service to fix things. But I guess $8.99 is more important to them. A nickel and dime company that doesn't care about their customers.
We've watched everything that is of any quality on this site. Being Brits living in the USA over the years we've exhausted all that is available. There are plenty great UK programs that could be on here but are not. It is very rare indeed for anything of quality to be added to this site...in short its all got very old and has past its best. They need to update the whole library of programs and raise the standard several notches.
We first subscribed many years ago when BritBox was first available in Canada. Today we cancelled due to complete frustration with BritBox's inability to provide reliable viewing. We're on fibre, 250mbps, so there's no issue at our end; nor do we have any problems with our other services. BritBox however... We're now in the midst of our third in as many months of the inability to watch BritBox. So far this month we've lost 15% of our viewing days because BritBox refuses to recognise our log-in. Their Chat support is useless and the promised call by their Tech Support folks has yet to happen... now going into day 3.
BritBox claims to offer the most British content because it's a collaboration between ITV & BBC. Unfortunately many of their shows tend to be old productions including '70s & '80s which come across as "dated" instead of "nostalgic". After 4 months of "coming soon" a new series consisted of only 2 shows — turns out that's all the producers produced; other shows have also been "coming soon" for months with no actual date provided — meanwhile BritBox seems to be flooded with "dreck" from the '60s & '70s. The most recent frustration for anyone accessing BritBox through AppleTV is Britbox's unannounced change to how the Apple remote functions — for us it meant 3 days of no access until BritBox got around to responding to my email. A simple email to their subscribers PRIOR to the change would have prevented a lot of anger & frustration; BritBox's reply to my query included "... it has been hard to get in contact with us due to such a high volume of requests..." You think? Fortunately for us we also have NetFlix & AcornTV.
I bought a 1-year Britbox gift subscription for my wife. Apparently, there is a provision buried somewhere in the terms and conditions legalese that says that Britbox will automatically renew without notification for eternity. My wife is certain she cancelled after the gift year, but we could not prove it. It turns out that Britbox has billed us an additional $90 to $100 each year in December for the last 4 years when we never used it or knew we had it. Britbox does not tell you that they are about to renew so that you can figure out how to cancel. This is especially a problem for subscriptions given as gifts. I would not do business with these people or ever give them access to your credit card. Customer service was zero help.
I received an offer for 3 months on Britbox for $1 a month. The offer code does not work. Their customer service was unable to fix it after 3 calls. Then they sent me an email telling me that THEY will not support me coz I was disrespectful, even though they told me they are aware of the problem, not just from me but from many other customers!
Great company. Blame the customer!
Stay away from Brit Box. If you sign up for any of their promo plans and then late in canceling even by an hour, they will charge your credit card and will refuse to refund your payment. I suggest you either use Acorn or some other site for British shows or, sign up for a free plan and cancel the next day. You will still get your weeks worth of watching and the good thing, you can sign up again with a different email address and get another week for free. You can do this as many times as you want.
They present shows that are 10 or 12 years old and only part of the episodes are there because the show never finished. Be careful starting a show on britbox you may not see the end of it such as the show called good cop 12 years old supposed to have full episodes only has two brick box canceled the show after two episodes but they're still selling the show on britbox and only giving you two episodes big disappointment.
Britbox does carry some excellent shows from the UK, but most of it seems to be archived in the 20th century and I must admit getting a chuckle from the old technology from back then with long dead actors on grainy screens. But, of course, they are largely unwatchable for me, sadly.
It is a shame when there are so many good current programs available if Britbox decided to release them - but we only seem to get a select few.
I love the content but it freezes, then catches up or turns off completely. Far less reliable then other streaming services on the same tv and ISP. Don't think there has been a single hour and a half program without some form of interruption. The service always blames the ISP but I stream other services without issue.
I gave a gift of a years subscription to a family member who loves British murder mysteries, which came in the form of a redemption code. Sounded like such a great gift idea. After she received it, she was unable to redeem it, as they demanded that she give them here credit card information for an auto-renewal. Months and many emails later, she's still not able to redeem the gift, what a complete scam! I didn't read the reviews here, but I really should have, sounds like even if she had been able to redeem it's not at all as advertised. Will be asking my CC company refund the money if I can.
Released with too many glitches and poor programming in both senses of the word. Would love to see some of the old programmes but it doesn't work on modern TVs anyway. I'll watch a few on my computer and cancel it. I hope Netflix buys it out.
After weeks of complaining of being unable to subscribe still no better have tried 4 different emails and my husbands details each time says email already in use. Impossible! Am giving up especially after reading all the poor reviews.
As many other reviewers have noted, BritBox is a nightmare to navigate. Viewers get trapped in menus with no easy way to go forward or backward. The captions tool is almost impossible to locate and activate... especially for an entire series like "Shetland". I am going to cancel.
Absolutely the worst customer service I've ever encountered. I cancelled my account and 7 days later have still not received the promised confirming email. Their USA phone number is useless.
If you want a good British platform I suggest you try Acorn Tv.
My wife & I called customer service at least 3-4 times to have transactions completed & each time it was not done & there was no follow up with us by Brit Box so, we cancelled our subscription in their database. Hopefully they can get that right.
