My Review would look a lot like the review below by John N. Very Similar situation. I purchased a modem listed as compatible with my carrier. Modem did not work on my carriers system. I emailed Buyyourownmodem.com and let them know it wasn't working. They responded and said I should try the power supply from the modem I ended up renting from the provider as they found they had several bad power supplies causing issues. That was not the problem and I requested a return shipping label to return the modem and exchange for another. No response for days then I get an email to follow the instructions on the website. Cost me $13.50 at the post office to ship it because they refused to send me a return label. I then waited around 18 days and requested an update (No Response). Then I checked Tracking and they had had the modem for 10 days at this point and had not shipped a replacement. So I sent another email telling them to refund me. 4 days later I received a partial refund. I then contacted My Credit Card Company and was issued a credit for the difference. I am still out paying rent for a modem for 2 months plus the shipping to return. By the time I get a modem from somewhere else I will have paid for 2 modems. Do not Trust these people. If you do purchase from them and you have an issue, do expect it to cost you not them. They use the customer to save money. Customer becomes the tester of the equipment. They don't pay for shipping or the return. The amount they save not testing the modems outweighs the original shipping cost of the problematic modems.
I wasted years leasing a modem. When it was so easy to replace it and save $10 a month. The new modem works perfectly, installation was a breeze. Should have done this a long time ago.
This company is SCAM! They are running the scam! Deceptive marketing lures unsuspecting customers to purchase what they think is new equipment only to find out it was used.
When I received my MODEM: ARRIS TG1682G (XB3) DOCSIS 3, the MAC address was already being used by another person. The seller cannot resell used Modem with active MAC addresses. Please check the MAC address before you buy.
In general - DO NOT buy from "Buy Your Own Modem"- stick to eBay or Amazon as per the service providers.
It is pretty serious for you to come out and publicly play mob, cop, judge, and jury as there was certainly nothing illegal about what you received but we are very sorry to hear that you had problems with Comcast and they they claimed it was "already registered" as they have actually been previously fined by the FCC for equipment registration violations and as a previous Comcast employee we know that that is not a valid reason for them to refuse to activate it for you. In fact, this issue is very rare luckily, but when it does occur many customers are able to get it quickly resolved by working with a different dept at Comcast or just buy doing a simple self activation correctly. We are sorry you kind of ate up what they fed you as there isn't much we can do about that and unfortunately obviously there is a conflict of interest but we wish you would have followed the instructions we sent you to get it resolved with the right dept as opposed to being combative and wanting to make threats and attach us as this is where these kind of people end up. Regardless you were told to return in accordance with our return policy so you were in no way stuck with the item as we still had your back but again some people have the extra time to just be combative and have no intention in resolving the issue. A We have over 99.6% on Amazon and Ebay as a TOP RATED SELLER and have over 3000 POSITIVE REVIEWS on our website so if providing a 1 year warranty for our customers so they know we will stand behind our products and can have confidence in purchasing from us. The other 1% unfortunately end up here.
Used with Optimum. Setup involved plugging it in to power and cable and me calling them with the ID number on the unit. They do the rest remotely.
Tried to get the modem activated by Comcast. Comcast told me unit appears to be stolen. Comcast's policy is to not activate a unit that appears to be stolen. It still belongs to one of their customers and is still active in their system.
When I contacted buyyourownmodem.com all I received is a couple of links of court cases basically telling me that Comcast legally is required to active it.
Well after 4 hours on the phone and going to one of their store locations they would not active the unit.
I tried contacting buyyourownmodem.com and asked to either send me one that will be activated or send me my money back. They sent me the return address. I shipped it back to them. Fortunately I requested a signature. 2 weeks after I know they received it I contacted them again. I was told they did not receive it and to ship it back to them. When I told them I have a sign signature along with a tracking number and date signed for they stopped answering their email.
I contacted my credit card company to get my money back. After a month more my credit card company told me that buyyourownmodem.com claims that they never received the unit back. I sent tracking number and signed for information to my credit card company and finally received my money back (less return shipping).
Buyer beware.
We take this accusation VERY SERIOUSLY and have investigated the matter and found that the part number that the customer received as was provided by him via a picture does not match that of the part number that his provider and so it is not possible for this item to have ever been stolen from them. Unfortunately providers have been caught by the FCC doing this and recently Comcast was issued a 2.5 million dollar fine for charging customers for their own equipment. We have asked the customer for a signed document from Comcast validating such a claim and a name and phone number for the customers provider so we could try and contact them but the customer has failed to provided any valid documentation from his provider for such a claim and is not publicly accusing us a committing a crime of which we have issued him a notice of the severity of this kind of libel when there is nothing to support such but hearsay. We have over 96% positive feedback on Ebay and Amazon as a Powerseller and over 3000+ positive reviews on our website and even have a higher star rating on the BBB then the BBB has themselves so I can assure you we take such matters very seriously but will protect ourselves when necessary from libel and other slanderous falsehoods backed by competitors fed to consumers in a conflict of interest. The link below shows the government action taken by the FCC regarding their dishonesty when it comes to customer equipment of which they were fined.

I recently bought this unit from Dontleaseyourmodem.com. I seleted the basic free shipping and it arrived 3 days later. The product was the very same as what was provided by CenturyLink. I replaced the one provided to me by CenturyLink with the unit I bought and it connected immediately. I noticed no difference in performance. It seems to be the s Read more about review stating CenturyLink ZyXEL C3000Z Wireless A/C Router Modem Comboame unit without having to pay rent to CenturyLink.
I Googled Cox modems and this site came up. I ordered the exact modem that I currently rent from Cox Cable. When it arrived, it was used/refurbished. I saw where some modem were clearly marked as refurbished but no mention for this one. The packaging was substandard. I'm surprised it wasn't busted up when I opened the package. It was not until I tried to use it, that I got an error from Cox that only modems purchased or rented from them are authorized. When I tried to return, I was lectured that, "it is the customers responsibility to ensure the compatibility..." ok but there was no mention that Cox did not support their modems. So they allowed me to return at my expense for shipping (not a problem). When i inquired about my refund, again I was lectured, "returns can take up to 90 days. It is the customers responsibility to ensure..., but you we have refunded your money." I thought, "great thank you," but no they prorated my return from $119 to $89! What? Why? I paid return shipping for a used modem already! While they were lecturing, they failed to mention my return would be prorated. Take my advice, RUN! Pay full price at Best Buy, at least you can return it if it doesn't work. This company had the nerve put an flyer in the box that said if you aren't happy, please give us a chance to correct it before writing us a bad review. REALLY? What type of business are you running. I'm posting this everywhere I can. You should have just refunded my money.
Very sorry to hear that you ordered the wrong modem for Cox as per the items description page we didn't list this item to work for Cox and it was also listed to be in refurbished condition. Secondly, the Cox approved list stated that they won't accept phone modems from third party vendors and so instead of performing the proper research you went out and bought a modem that doesn't work for Cox per their own list and per our description page and then are leaving bad reviews because you were charged a restocking fee upon return which was listed in our purchase terms that had to be accepted in order to complete checkout. We have a 96% positive feedback rating on Ebay and Amazon as a power seller and have over 3000 positive reviews on our website and even a 4/5 star on this review site with the other -1 star coming from those who didn't do the proper research before purchase and then made threats after being charged a restocking fee accordingly.
Thanks for the price you offered for the modem I needed to set up my home office. The package arrived when expected and I am completely satisfied.
When I looked at my cable bill and found out I was charged for my modem a rental fee I figure might as well purchase my own and within five months it would be already paid off so I went for the later and it was the best decision I made it works awesome and best of all I own it.
Answer: Yes, another similar company is Dontleaseyourmodem.com

We offer a 1 year extended warranty with most of our items so our customers can buy with confidence and can't lose money vs renting the modem for a year.

Very sorry to hear that you ordered the wrong model for your provider as unfortunately such returns can be preventable by checking with your provider before purchase. Given the documented correspondence we have with you it turn out you lack the integrity to mention that you purchased a T3200M that we list to work with TDS right in the title instead of the Windstream T3200 version that we offer whom you confirmed is your provider so we are not sure why in the world you did that or how you missed it but unfortunately you did and yes it ended up costing you fees in the end. In fact, we don't even list your provider as a compatible model for their service for this very reason because the firmware on the units we sell is different then the ones your providers uses as rental units so we tried to help you but not listing your provider but you purchased it anyways. You will also see online on Amazon and Ebay the same story that it won't work with your provider and so with a little due diligence or by simply asking us regarding the model the we would have been happy to assist you. Instead you order a modem we don't list to work with your provider, then leave us a 1 star review when against our recommendation you buy it anyways and sure enough it doesn't work? We are sorry that you don't agree with the restocking fee that was assessed as again we did ship you the exact model you ordered but unfortunately you purchased an item that is not compatible for your service. This despite even being presented with a notice stating that before you can complete checkout please confirm that you have read the items description page word for word as you can't complete checkout from us without acknowledging or accepting such terms so that we can prevent these preventable misunderstanding from happening. In reality we don't have this problem very often thank goodness and in fact have THOUSANDS OF POSITIVE REVIEWS on our website, over 95% positive feedback on Amazon, and are a Top rated seller on Ebay with years of taking care of our customers as you can't just "Fake" reviews on these sites but I understand how you would need to say that in order to make it look like you are not the 4% of people who just flat out didn't read what you were buying and then went on a witch hunt after the fact when you found out this was the case. What's funny is you even tell people to purchase from us "if they have to" but to do it on Ebay or Amazon or another site which again confirms that it wasn't us that was the problem but you just ordered the wrong thing and had to pay to send it back and pay a restocking fee for doing so, PERIOD! I mean we even list a Windstream T3200 and your provider is Windstream but somehow you manage to purchase the T3200M which we list for TDS? How in the world do you do that?
We certainly try and our best to serve our customers the best we can as is proven by our track record on multiple sites but unfortunately we can't prevent customers who don't read before they buy and just make assumptions and unfortunatley we are bound to have a few and it makes it tough try and help but the review sites such as this provide a great environment for such to vent instead of take responsibility.
