Mt. Gox II
May 11, 2015

I would urge you VERY STRONGLY not to trust coinbase.

Although I am new to bitcoin, I've been in the financial markets my whole life.

Whatever coinbase may have once been, it is not, now. My main bank account website, for example, has never had a glitch or an error... ever. Sometimes it's offline. But not even a small glitch, much less a fundamental error.

In three days on Coinbase. There are many glitches and problems. I've connected my bank account, for example, and bought a few bitcoins. Suddenly, there is an error not allowing me to make purchases, and pop-up screens directing me to send personal information to THIRD PARTY WEBSITES (of the kind that would enable anyone with that information to commit identity theft.)

48 hours ago, the tech person said the problem would be resolved. In 48 hours, no resolution, no word.

Also, somewhere on the site I read that they claim the right to TAKE BITCOINS out of your wallet, themselves, in certain circumstances. THEY CAN TAKE YOUR MONEY, it would therefore seem, from YOUR Wallet.

Or, should I say, "Your" wallet.

My best investments have been based, at least partly, on intuition. And I smell a BIG RAT at Coinbase. Whatever they may have once been, they are no more.

DO NOT TRUST COINBASE, or you will be Mt. Goxed, I promise you. Or be a sheep, don't think for yourself, get fleeced, and then slaughtered. Your choice.

A week ago, on September, 12/22 my Coinbase account was hacked. I immediately contacted the Company on a live chat to report the fraud and to lock the account. Unfortunately, even though they locked it, too late... my money, about $3000 were stolen. Then I called the company to report the fraud, but to my surprise, they told me: "there were nothing they can do about it, they won't reimburse my money". I sent them very detail emails, including screen shots (See photos attached) as evidence explaining what was happening, and requested an INVESTIGATION, but their response was the same. I was in shock! Then I started looking for help on line and what a surprise... they have opened several Lawsuits for the same reason. There are thousands and thousands of victims like me. Surprisingly I also found several articles like this one: https://www.alphr.com/coinbase-got-hacked/ online that affirm, that "Coinbase refund hacked accounts". So, I don't understand why they said otherwise.
After several emails and phone call exchange, they wrote: "We are unable to cancel or reverse this transaction. In this instance, I recommend attempting to recover the funds from the recipient by reaching out to them and requesting their help".
After 5 years as a Coinbase Customer, that was very insulting. They acted very disrespectful, irresponsible, unprofessional and unethical, towards a customer.
I frankly don't understand how that company is doing business in US.
Authorities should investigate more and hopeful, they reimburse people's money, including me.

Note: The video posted it's not mine. I got this clip from YT. (Start at Minute 1:30). This is the link: https://youtu.be/gjnwC3Nc6SI

VERY PHISHY
December 13, 2017

originally attempted to register with the cellphone app, putting in all necessary information. Each time - about 6 attempts spread out over almost 2 weeks - I would constantly have to go through the same steps until it either locked me in ID limbo or if that got through (only one time mind you), than I would than get stuck in payment verification limbo.

The last attempt was directly on their website (not through the app) to see if it would have better luck seeing as I am given the additional option to upload photos from a jpg. Same result...failed verification.

I noticed other potential users having the same problems based on many of the reviews. The other thing I noticed were the conveniently placed "outages" when prices were at their highs.

This $#*! is extremely phishy. This company is not the future for digital currency exchange...it has failed that "verification".

On a sidenote: if cryptocurrency is supposed to be decentralized, why are you forced to go through a mediary (exchanges) to buy and sell? That is still a form of centralization. Additionally, you can be locked out of access to your wallet or any transactions do to "outages".

Numerous issues trying to even make my first purchase which NEVER happened. Can't even get my account number through the direct deposit tab (which is the only way to get it), because it's telling me that I submitted a direct deposit application through my employer (but can't because I am unemployed).

I then called their "customer service" who forwarded my request onto their "management" who got back in touch with me telling me to get with my employer to cancel the Direct deposit app. I responded back by letting them know YET AGAIN, that that's impossible for me to do so.

Not only have I NEVER filled out a direct deposit form to begin with from Coinbase, but I AM UNEMPLOYED AS WELL! How the hell, can I go to an HR department and cancel a direct deposit app, with a company that I DON'T HAVE A JOB AT TO BEGIN WITH?

All of this was included NUMEROUS times as well as a screenshot proving everything I just said. What did they then do? They responded back to me yet again, telling me to get back with my employer (who I don't have a job with and at a company that I do NOT work for) to cancel and/or check on a direct deposit form that was NEVER FILLED OUT OR SUBMITTED TO BEGIN WITH!

At this point, I am so glad I had these issues PRIOR to investing thousands of dollars of our hard earned money with them, because if they are truly this mentally $#*!ed BEFORE I GIVE them my money, then how incompetent would they be once they actually have it?

CoinBase is a horrible company. I tried to send my payment to a vendor and the transaction timed out. CoinBase couldn't process the transaction fast enough and the vendor rejected the transaction. The money was supposed to return to my wallet but it did not.

I went to the FAQ and it states if the transaction times out CoinBase will contact the vendor and submit the payment. I was in contact with the vendor for 7 days with no message from CoinBase. I then e-mailed them 3 times over the next 7 days. Their site states they will be in contact within 48 hours. It took them 21 days to respond to my e-mails. By then I filed a complaint with the BBB.

CoinBase final got a hold of me and said my account was being terminated for a policy violation. Turns out they don't like people reporting them so they close your account. I was told I wouldn't receive a refund but I can keep my remaining. 26 cents in my account.

Luckily the vendor felt bad for me and sent me my order for free. So not only did CoinBase keep my money but the vendor had to send me a free order out of good will.

I'd never use CoinBase EVER. They SCAMMED me out of $85.75. This company is a joke.

Having always been skeptical of cryptocurrency, I listened to one of my friends who told me, "Just try it and wait for the long term. You might be surprised in a few years, or have a lot of regret if you don't." He recommended CoinBase.

I decided to throw $250 into Ripple (XRP). Why not? I've lost more money in a day at the racetrack or in Las Vegas, so I opened up an account to give it a try.

My identity was verified, I gave them my bank account information for automatic payments AND my bank even acknowledged that I agreed to share my information with them in an email.

So, I bought 770 XRP for 31 cents each, and got confirmation. Over the weekend, I watched XRP go from 31 cents to 54 cents. Hey, I made $177 on "paper" from a $250 investment. Pretty cool, right?

I logged on to my coinbase account the following Monday, expecting to see my balance over $400, only to find out that my "recent purchase of digital assets has failed" and that if I did not pay they would automatically recover the funds in five days. OK, I'll settle, right? I clicked "Make Payment" and they said that it was successful. Why now, and not on Friday? They used the same banking information!

Then, on my recent transactions, it showed that I had just transferred $250 of XRP. To where? I thought I paid for the transaction that I made the previous Friday? So now, XRP had gone up in value almost 75% in four days and my account that should have more than $400 in it, now has $176 in it. So, where did all this money go?

To login to your account, they text you a confirmation number, but if there is an "issue" with your account, they don't tell you - no text, no email. You just get a big surprise the next time you login.

I did supposedly get $10 in Bitcoin for verifying my ID. Let's see how easy it is to get my money out of this scam company.

STAY AWAY!

Riding the XRP wave until CoinBase decided that my crypto purchase did not go through.
My recent purchase of digital assets has failed? WHY?
I paid, but instead it is 462 XRP and not 770? Did I fall for a scam?
My original confirmation. What does "successfully purchased" even mean?

Appalling!

1. Coinbase has virtually zero customer support (so no matter what happens you can't talk to anyone)
2. Coinbase crashes and should you be doing anything during this time (lag, crash downtime etc) you will cause a glitch
3 If a glitch is caused *(by mistake or design or just pure bad luck) this flags up an instant restriction.
4. If restricted (and you will be) - you are basically locked out - you can login to see how much money you are loosing or making - but it is held hostage. You can't withdraw
5. So you then reach out for help - see point 1
6. You get frustrated and resort to Twitter - and you get scammers offering to help - DO NOT GIVE ANYONE ANY INFORMATION
7. Wait 5 days and still get no reply from any case you created
8. Accept you have been scammed
9. Consider what recourse you have and then accept you have none and let it go

Have a nice day

Avoid Coinbase - if this review stops at least one person joining and funding this criminal enterprise and stealing from at least one other person - then that is at least some money they wont get. That makes me feel better - There is a cost to this crime they commit and the more who see it the more it will cost them. I urge you all, if you have been a victicm of COINBASE to POST everywhere you can about it- I am nobody, a small fish in a big pond but I will dedicate my time making this known - COINBASE ARE A CRIMINAL ENTERPRISE

It first sounded good, to use my BTC as collateral to take out a loan from CB. It was THE worst thing I could have done. Now that my BTC is frozen, my "credit health" has to stay above 40% and, if it drops below, they sell ONLY enough of my BTC to get it back above 50% AND they take 2%. I asked them to sell enough of my BTC in the amount of my loan when BTC was at $30K, to pay off the loan and unfreeze the rest so I can access it. They refuse. Instead, they keep the debt and EVERY TIME my credit health dips below 40% they sell just enough of my BTC AT THE LOW PRICE to get my credit health above 50% and again they take 2%! I'm in a jam, can't pay it off, can't pay in more to keep it up. I wanted to close it out at a high price, eliminate the debt. They refuse, say they don't have someone who can do it. They are pretty much holding me hostage and keeping my debt, refusing to use my BTC when it's at a high price to close out my loan. They ensure they keep taking their 8.2% interest each month and taking 2% each time they sell off bits. All I can say is don't do it! I think I have to get a lawyer and start a class action lawsuit.

Where do we start with how bad are Coinbase and Coinbase Pro?
1) Coinbase asked me three times to verify my I. D and each time they confirmed by email that my I. D had been verified and everything was fine.

2) Three times in that same email they said that a $5 bitcoin reward was on its way to my account! That was in December 2020 and beginning of March 2021. The $5 bitcoin reward never appeared in my account...
3) I transfered a small amount of XRP into my Coinbase Pro on Jan 5th 2021. Then coinbase informed me that they were suspending any buy or sale of XRP on their platform which meant that I had to transfer out of Coinbase my XRPs to another platform in order to sell my XRP or buy more... I tried at least half a dozen times to transfer out of Coinbase and within a few minutes or hours I would receive an email informing me that the withdrawal was canceled for the following reason:
"You are currently unable to send XRP. Please contact support."
I contacted many times Support and once they said they have passed my case to a specialist and never heard again from Coinbase.
Myself and my XRP are prisoners of the incompetence of and lack of duty of care from Coinbase.
They want to be listed on the stock market but they can even organise a simple withdrawal of crypto from their useless platform to a better run and managed external one!
What a bleeming JOKE...

My account was hacked in Coinbase some weeks ago and they did not provide any help whatsoever! Incredible... All my funds were taken from my account and these guys won't take any kind of responsibility. What I have done so far to retrieve my funds and force Coinbase to take responsibility:

Reported to IC3 (FBI): https://www.ic3.gov/Home/FileComplaint
Reported to the FTC: https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/#/assistant
Reported to SEC (Securities Exchange and Commission): https://www.sec.gov/oiea/Complaint.html
Reported to CFTC (Commodity Futures Trading Commission): https://forms.cftc.gov/Forms/Complaint/Screen1
Reported to CFPB (Consumer Financial Protection Bureau): https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint
Filed a complaint with the Office of the Attorney General (Washington in my case): https://www.atg.wa.gov/file-complaint
Sought legal assistance, found crypto solicitors that can help to freeze the stolen funds and retrieve them (this was the best firm I could find): https://www.cryptolegal.uk

Coinbase is a JOKE, I can't really understand how a company that implements such horrible security protocols can actually be listed in NASDAQ, they should take full responsibility for this hack! Shame on them!

Do not trust this site they have more Hackers than employees. While on the Coinbase Website I went to the Help Center when one of the Hackers hit my note pad and wanted to know how he could help me, I thought he was a Coinbase employee, but he was a Hacker and stole $6,000.00 that was supposed to go into my Bitcoin Wallet!. After the Coinbase Hackers take your money, Coinbase is no help to get it back. They can't even police whats going on within their website and unwilling to find out!. Went to the Help Center again to voice my complaint and was asked to leave my phone # and immediately I got a call from Anti Fraud Dept. in Europe, his name was Adam and said there was a 70 percent chance he could get my money back, But first he had to have more money, of course he was another Hacker, they dont quit untill you are not foolish enough to fall for their scam anymore! The people that Scammed me were Shawn Robert, Richard Parker, Charles Halley, and Adam, although they probabaly change their names from customer to customer to prevent their reeputations from catching up with them. Signed: *******@dieboltllc.com the $6,000 dollar loser! Shawn was bragging to me that he was working on a $70,000 Deal, was why he took a little extra time to get back to me, hope that guy reads this review before he loses his money also, because he is not going to get any help from Coinbase, because they dont seem to care how much the multiple Hackers take from their website customers. Since 539 reviews out of 666 were 1 star, Coinbase doesn't seem to care!.

What a nightmare...
January 19, 2021

What a nightmare! Worst case of shielding you from withdrawing your money I ever saw. Why isn't there a Withdraw button at the top? I bought bitcoin to be used at an offshore betting site. When I found out it would take days for Coinbase to complete the transaction it was no longer of use to me. I had set up a transfer between my bank and Coinbase before deciding not to go through with it. Lord knows what status my money was in as it just showed as "not available". No IMMEDIATE or LIVE customer support. Nothing. So, I didn't want my money sitting around in an account connected to something as volatile as bitcoin so I put in a sell order an hour after the purchase order. Still no idea what my status was as there's no phone support offered(unreal!).
4 days later I see the transfer hit my bank account and 2 days after that the money was available in my Coinbase account.
So, how do I transfer MY money from Coinbase back to my bank account and take my $25 fee hit. Lick my wounds and get on with my life swearing never to use this god forsaken site again.

Looking for a WITHDRAW button on the home page. Nothing!

I had to YouTube how to get my money transferred out of the site...

Why? Because the place to do it is located at the bottom of the Homepage underneath a massive amount of advertising banners for related services.

Finally, got to the right area and even then I had to do an additional couple of steps before executing the withdrawal to my already linked bank account.

Took 10 days for the ability to transfer my money out. Will take another 3-4 before my money hopefully shows up in my bank account. HORRIBLE

I don't deal with any service that makes you jump through hoops to get YOUR money out...

Will never deal with this site again...

I sincerely thought all hope was lost on my coinbase account and $78k worth various crypto. Having all the proof and info on my hacked account didn't do so much with coinbase. I had to escalate to our local police here in George town Texas. I got a clever tip from a concerned officer who told me of a victim who he knew with similar case. The victim hired a whitehat hacker named T R E E OF A L P H A. This hacker countered hacked the hackers by tracing records and breaking protocols to recover the victim's account and asset. I reached out to him to see what my chances were and of course high skepticism. He reached back same day and gave me a sincere contract we were to work with. I signed them and got shock messages in my email of my coinbase account access been restored with all of my crypto investment returned. I logged in immediately to very and there was my coins sitting in my wallet again. I can't thank experts like ToA enough for the noble job they do. Especially in a much vital space like crypto. I have an open case with these people regarding a $1000 transaction that I initiated with Coinbase. Their website tells me that the transaction is complete, however I haven't received my funds yet. I keep writing to them and all i get is the "wait alittle more" response. I am very displeased with their service. I write to you as a warning. For the sake of your sanity and you money, DO NOT DEPOSIT or WITHDRAW any money into this service! They will flat out rob you. I have read the warning from other people and didn't listen. But the warning is REAL. DON'T MESS WITH THESE GUYS, THEY WILL ROB YOU. If you want details, I will give you all the details you need.

HEED MY WARNING! These people kidnap and rape your bitcoins. They are low level shady bottom feeders. They don't care about you the only take your money and give you the finger. I got raped by these scumbags for $1000. I am definitely filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.
To file a complaint Google "FTC". And look for "Submit a consumer complaint"

I'm new to crypto and 61 years old. I sold my first NFT and it was paid for by the buyer in WETH which I did not know was a coin or that it was not ETH. When I went to transfer it out of Metamask to Coinbase to convert to USD and send to Paypal ($1877) Coinbase accepted the transfer but would not release it to me because "it's a coin they do not handle." However, they could have disclosed that up front, rejected the transaction or sent it back so that I, the consumer, would have options to use my money but they don't care. Customer service is a joke, non existent. I have reems of emails between me and a likely bot at Coinbase where they constantly respond with (we haven't heard from you so we are closing your case in 48 hours and we assume the case is settled) which is a lie, completely inaccurate and every email they have autogenerated I responded to with concrete information, screen shots and polite but persistent requests that they return my money and they refuse to do so. My next step is Congress.
