“DarnToothySam replaced LCD in Canon camera for about...”

Mark L.
9/11/11

DarnToothySam replaced LCD in Canon camera for about $70 bucks and they had it back to me in 2 weeks. Full story: I did send an e-mail query first which was not answered, then called; Tom answered, told me the repair price listed on web site was too high, and he was about to lower it by about $30 (huh?). He did. Best Buy said it would cost over $200 to replace and I should just buy a new camera. I guess maybe they can work on their communication, but this is a small business and I for one am willing to cut people slack. I read the negative reviews on sitejabber first–most of which sounded to me like the same psycho posting over and over–and found the MANY positive reviews more persuasive. I was not wrong. Would not hesitate to send my camera in again (if I drop it again!).

Where is my order # 16031, or some information about shipping? Discounted credit card already! Any response on it after two weeks? NOTHING! Only "order received", no more! No e-mail response. This is a joke with the client. Almost no review speak well of you. If they are responsible, waiting a decent answer!

Hey Thomas, I have sent multiple requests for when my part will be here. I see that you request an order number to make sure we are real. It is #*******. PLEASE respond to my emails or refund my $$. I hope you have been reading online reviews from me and telling you that I plan on stopping by your house to see why you haven't responded to anything I have sent you. I have only heard from "Alex" when I was verifying my sending address within two days and have heard nothing since? If you have to special order the OEM part, at least give updates on the progress and don't leave people without proper follow-up. Think twice before you try and screw another person that lives 15 minutes away from you!

Hi Mike, you may stop by our location at any time, we have customers dropping off cameras pretty much every day. No I haven't read any online reviews from you or anyone else anywhere other than here; it's a waste of my time.

Were you possibly threatening us in some way? I hope not; as the police take those sorts of actions very seriously and will respond to them accordingly.

For some reason your part was greatly delayed, sorry. I see by the tracking number from our supplier that it was processed in St. Paul on Saturday, so we will have it here Monday. We will ship it to you Monday, and you will have it Tuesday.

Alex spends most of the day here repairing cameras and doing shipping. He also has been given the task of answering all emails at the sales@darntoothysam.com address. He took a few days off for summer vacation, which many people do, and so we are very far behind in emails at this time. I am going to start answering emails at night as well to try and get us caught up, we get a lot of emails.

There is nothing for me to "think twice" about Mike, as I have never stolen anything from anyone.

Well, these guys are a little on the slow side as it took three weeks to receive a part for my Nikon digital camera, but they did deliver and the part was in excellent condition. And, I must say I did save a few dollars over purchasing this part elsewhere and considering the free shipping. Perhaps in this day and age of instant gratification, we are a little spoiled. I would have have given them five stars had they been about a week faster, but in my experience, they are honest and delivered exactly what I ordered.

Great prices and great online support. Unfortunately, there's very difficult communication issues. I was fortunate enough to live close by to check on my order, but can understand some frustration in not being able to contact this company. I think a lot of the problems could be eliminated if customers weren't charged until after the product was shipped. Other than that, I was pleased once I stopped by and am glad I've found a cheap way to fix my camera.

I found this company by googling repair for the shutter button for our Sony camera. They were awesome to work with an very helpful, upfront and honest. Thomas is very professional and great to work with. I called 5 different local shops and they either wanted a lot more $ (2-3 times as much) or would not even offer repair for this VERY common problem. Not only do they repair/fix for the problem, they also guarantee their work and the part. I will definitely call Thomas and DarnToothySam if I need anything else repaired. Thanks again!

Thanks Val, I put a lot of work into getting aluminum shutter button posts made for the Sony H2, H5, H7 and H9 cameras. It's our most popular do-it-yourself repair part and repair service of all time!

I had to have the LED replaced on my Canon T1i. This "darntoothysam" site seemed helpful because it explained the nature of the repair so well. The form downloaded easily, I sent the camera in with a check and in about two or three weeks it came back all fixed! I got an e-mail stating when the order was received, how long it might take to get the part and when it was shipped back. There was good communication and I am a satisfied customer.

I purchased a new top for my camera from DTS they were the cheapest place and easiest website to locate the exact part I needed from. They did not carry my part in stock but I still received it in a respectable amount of time. I had no issues at all with this company and would use them again for future purchases for my camera if needed.
All these negative issues I have seen on here for them seems a bit over the top and funny that it is the same thing over and over again. If they are asking for your information but you are not willing to give it to them then I have to wonder if you are one person trying to stir up issues because you had a bad experience with them. I don't figure this company to be perfect and I am sure there are several customers out there that are not happy with them, but be adult and answer their responses if there really are that many unhappy customers and allow them to try to fix the issue. No company is perfect so if you are not happy move on and use someone else.

I had a typical problem ( As I knew it later) for my Sony H2 camera - broken shutter button... in all the shops I asked everybody gave me price similar to the cost of new camera and every mechanic suggested to buy a new camera. And then I found this site where it said that it's a typical problem for my camera and if it's gonna be fixed my camera can last long time and work well. So I sent them my camera and for 60 bucks it was fixed, already a year passed since that time and camera is working great. The great thing about this site is that they have tutorials with list of all the tools and details needed to fix the problem yourself.

I have sent two cameras for repairs and have had good communication from Thomas, and really reasonable price for parts and service. He advised me how to repair the broken screen on my Canon and the part was sent promptly. When a clasp broke while replacing it, I was unable to complete the repair myself. I then sent it to him and for only $30, he fixed it and returned it promptly.

I had no reservations about sending my daughter's camera to him recently for a replacement screen, and the price and time frame for repair are both reasonable.

I would recommend this business to others as fair, prompt and honest.

Thank you Gayle, we appreciate the time and effort to leave us a feedback. We can't always do every repair within just a day or two; but as Gayle will tell you we are not dishonest and will repair your camera and get it back to you as quickly as we can.

All I know is I bought an electronic dc-dc board for my broken Canon G9. I swapped out the bad part for the new one and I have a working camera again. I'm very happy for the part at a good price. The part came via us mail in a reasonable amount of time and I got an e-mail when they send it. I'm quite happy.

I have to say that after reading all the negative reviews about Thomas I was sceptical but after dealing with Thomas I have to admit they were wrong. I notice that most of the squwaking came only a few days after he got an item to work on, need to give the guy a chance... I needed a part for my video camera, it took a little extra time to get it but I did get it he then sent me another part I needed that I broke while installing the first part. You'll save a ton of money going thru Thomas but you need to be patient. He's up front with the time frame and he can't sit at the computer 24/7 to answer emails. Thank you Thomas for all the help. I wish you luck in your business and would also wish that folks be a little more patient otherwise go thru the dealer, pay thru the nose and most likely get the runaround and have to wait just as long if not longer

I needed a replacement shutter button for my Sony Cybershot camera and I knew if I sent it back to Sony, it would cost half as much as the camera, so I looked on line and found this website. They gave me a choice of buying the part for a very low price with instructions included for doing it myself, and another with the part and complete installation package done by them for a very reasonably low price. I opted for the latter to make sure that it was done right. They not only guaranteed their work, but gave a lifetime warranty on the piece because they replaced it with a material that would never break. I had read where many people had replaced this part more than once! Darntoothysam.com techs were quick to respond when I emailed them and the turn around time from my house to them and back was amazing! I will definitely use them again should I encounter any other problems!

I broke my camera several weeks back, and after some searching on the internet, I found www.darntoothysam.com. There was a slight delay in my parts, but they communicated the issue with the parts with me, and within 2 weeks, I had my camera back and fixed!
This same repair would have cost $150 from Canon, but through these guys, it cost me 49.95!
If you don't mind a bit of a wait, you can save a lot of money and have a like new camera!
Highly recommended!

I received my camera in perfect working order with the repair service that I ordered completed. It took slightly longer than I anticipated (1 day shy of 7 weeks) to get my camera back. The site owner was mostly courteous and receptive of my requests. Except for the time it took, my experience was good.

I had a great experience with them. I purchased a replacement LCD screen for a Canon G9. It came brand new, quickly, and has been working perfectly for almost a year know. I had a very positive experience talking with Thomas on the phone, he gave me great advice, and was very honest and helpful. Plus, this is one of the only companies I could find that offers many of these parts and very reasonable repair prices. I wouldn't put much stock in some of the other very dramatic complaints. Thomas is up front that some parts can take longer than expected to come in, and so repairs may be delayed, but he is a small shop, and you won't find a similar repair job for the price. I will definitely continue to do business with him, and would recommend him to friends.

I'm sorry all the reviews here are so bad. I had a great experience with this company. The LCD screen on my Panasonic camera was broken. The form on the web site was easy to fill out. I received an email when they received it, i received another email when they repaired it, i received another email when they shipped it back to me. The whole process took 3 weeks, which included shipping time on both ends. I would use this company again.

I love my canon camera but was getting a 'lens error' (guess it's a common error for my model) and was looking to get it repaired at a reasonable price so I tried DTS (I could have bought a new camera for the price canon was charging for the repair). Since it's an older model camera, I didn't mind waiting for parts so got it repaired and it worked great for a few months. But the first time I used the movie mode, the lens got stuck again. I contacted DTS because of the repair guarantee and they said they would try fixing it again (but they no longer had a supplier for my camera parts so told me it could take a while). I again, didn't mind waiting as it was understandable because of my older model. It was sometimes difficult to get in touch with someone for an update, but when I did get through they were always very pleasant and helpful. It did take longer than I expected, but I eventually did get my camera back in working order and I'm very happy. Thanks, D. S.

I needed the shutter release button on my Sony DSC-H2 replaced--the camera was fine other than the broken shutter button, which happens a lot with this model. DarntoothySam acted completely as they said they would -- I shipped the camera out, got it back in about two weeks (Labor Day weekend was in there) and it's good as new! Actually *better*, since the part is now lifetime-warranted aluminum rather than the cheap OEM plastic that broke. Thank you so much for helping us save money and keeping another camera out of the landfill!

Camera repair work requires extreme patience and a delicate hand and darntoothysam.com does great work and you can't beat their prices. Dealt with Thomas concerning a problem with my camera. He is a very nice guy and he obviously works hard and is good at what he does. A+

Customers griping need to understand that small businesses are ran by real people who are passionate about what they do and should be treated with decency. Repairs take time and patient... so as customers you need to be patient with the repair. A rushed job is a bad job. Be kind and you'll be surprised at how nice people are.

I recently sent in a Canon G9 for repair. It's been just under 2 weeks and I received the camera yesterday - working perfectly. The order and submission process was easy, the turn-around time was perfectly acceptable and the camera repair seems to be great. They even replaced a screw that was missing and cleaned a sensor for me. I highly recommend DarnToothySam.com.

I ordered the parts in late may and I have them here with the camera repaired, by myself thanks to the excellent instructions. I could have sent it to canon and spent in excess of $ 100.00 but I bought the parts from DTS and for $ 30.07 I am back in business. Excellent experience all around and highly recommend them if you have a busted camera.

Darntoothysam.com did a fantastic job on my Canon G-9.
They were well aware of the problem and the turn around time for
Repair was very reasonable. I sent them a camera that would not power on and they
Sent the same camera back good as new. The price was great compared to any
Local shop that I checked. Canon factory repairs could run as much as 3X's what I was charged. Great job at a great price. They saved my G-9. Thanks.

I purchased the Sony DSC-H2 shutter button repair part from this seller, because they offered something that no one else did - a metal button instead of plastic, that won't break. While I did receive the part about a month after ordering it, and it meets description perfectly, service is generally slow, and communication is non-existent. I paid $40 for this teeny-tiny little part. When communications are so easy and cheap, I can see no real reason that communications shouldn't be done, and that I shouldn't get some communication at the price paid for my item. The seller makes the excuse that he doesn't have time for communications. Understood, but he cannot expect to get repeat business, or referrals, that way. Communications are a business reality.

Thomas D. – Darntoothysam.Com Rep

Sorry for the delay with your order Marcus, our manufacturer hasn't been keeping enough shutter buttons in stock for us to keep up with the demand. I answer the phone myself all day long, and I have part time help with emails. I do try and keep up with emails but we get 50-100 each day so it can be tough.

The part you purchased is $40 because we have to buy the "base" section from Sony, then break off their worthless plastic button (the one that already broke in your camera) and replace it with our aluminum one. The repair kit without the base is $20 cheaper because it costs us $20 less. We don't make more profit on that part than we do on the $20 cheaper item.

My camera shutter button broke, and I found this site on the internet. Found that Sony regularly has problems with the shutter buttons on their cameras. Darn toothy sam promised to fix it.

I sent my camera in, had excellent communication with the owner, he fixed the camera and promptly sent it back to me.

I am perfectly happy with the service I received.
