Drop-box is well-designed and an encrypted service. In total - anyone can add up to 8GB of free storage. This is large compared to most other services that offer free secure online storage. The biggest benefit about having online storage is that when your computer decides to retire, or you accidentally delete something, you have this backed up on a secure server. Just as simple as 1... 2... 3 to recover it!
BUT - here comes the down side. I recommend that no one store personally identifiable information with this service. This includes email addresses, phone numbers, street information or even your medical information. Basically anything you don't want the world to see, don't put on Drop-box. I say this because their recently was a depute over their privacy policy how they were promising more than they can deliver. Their privacy policy was in fact promising more then they could deliver. For example, it was said that when under investigation they unencrypted all your files. This means anyone in the world can see your unencrypted files and publicly release it. The last thing you want is your entire medical history posted over the internet. So - overall - my warning is not to trust this service with personal information. I would recommend VeriSign PIP for that sort of information.
You have to give them your credit card number to try Drop Box business for 30 days. They say, cancel before the trial is up and no charge. I tried to cancel well before the 30 days was up, and wasn't able to. I contacted them, and was told it was already downgraded.
Sure enough, on the 30th day, the charge for $85 went through on our credit card, Now we are suffering through the painful back and forth emails, the last one being "... reviewed by members of our team who specialize in this kind of issue They'll review it carefully and we will get back to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, if there's any additional information that you think would be helpful for us to know, please feel free to reply."
Why is this so complicated Dropbox? You charged us when you shouldn't have. Simply reverse the charge.
I quite liked the free version of Dropbox before this situation. To me this is simply poor business practice, putting us as the consumer in the Buyer Beware position. I no longer trust them.
I love dropbox, it took a friend of mine recommending it for some time before I actually signed up, but now that I use it, it's value prop is clear to me. Online storage with the simplicity of drag/drop into another native PC/Mac folder (except the folder is in the cloud). You get 2GB free, and 250MB free if you are referred to the site by a user. Also, once you sign up, you get another 250MB free everytime you refer someone else (up to 8 more GB free).
As a user, you can put any type of doc in your dropbox folders, create subfolders, etc. So now you can access your files from any computer you own, or even ones that aren't yours (by going to dropbox.com and accessing your stuff via a browser). You can also share folders with people, which make it great if you and your friends want to introduce each other to new music, movies, apps.
On the subject of apps, both IOS and Android have great dropbox apps, where you can stream music (I havent tried movies) on your phones music player(s). Android also allows you to download the songs in your dropbox folders to your phone (Apple, of course, does not allow this).
All in all, great concept; love the site and software, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is computer literate, likes "stuff," and is between the ages of 3-149.
I do not even use dropbox and they have taken $199.99 for last year and $199.99 for this year and I did not authorize that payment. I tryed them for 7-day trial and canceled. They have charged my account twice and when I have asked for a refund I have not received it.
THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY! THEY DO IT THROUGH PAYPAL!
FIRST REVIEW EVER WRITTEN... THAT TELLS YOU IM NOT A COMPLAINER, BUT THIS COMPANY DEDUCTED $19.99 (unauthorized) FROM MY ACCOUNT FOR 3 MONTHS AND WOULD ONLY GIVE 1 MONTH BACK FOR CREDIT.
Decent, but good be better. Do agree that at times they do not answer your questions if you have some serious issue.
Had some problems with it initially, but their customer support team got in contact with me very quickly and resolved the issue.
This software is great for file sharing and user permissions, but there is a complete lack of overall customer service.
I love this site and have been using it since it first began. I've stored tons of big music related files on it. Never had any issues.
Answer: TRUE THEY SCAMMED ME TOO!
Answer: SCAMMERS!
Answer: I hope there is a class action suit and I will join it.
Answer: Dropbox customer support will soft talk you into thinking they are helping to put a stop to their fraudulent charges, but in the end they actually do nothing. I don't believe they have an in-house system to stop credit card charges. There are many crooked companies that do business this same way as well. How many people don't read their credit card statement in full every month? And the dropbox folks rake in the fraudulent charges people don't catch. Call them, and they say "we're sorry" it won't happen again. I went through that three times and finally had to re-issue my card with a new number. Shown is a canned text statement below sent to people with billing problems: >"I will need all of the following information for security reasons and to locate the charge to assist you:"< > Card type First six digits of the card Last four digits of the card Full name on the credit card charged Date of charge Amount charged Billing postal code< "Dear Dropbox, If I spent the same amount of time, it takes to cancel a CC looking at the thousands of negative online reviews before I bought Dropbox I would be well ahead of the game. I added my negative review of dropbox to the many already online after I changed the CC number on my Visa, of course. And no, I will not give you any more cc numbers or names. Dropbox has a worldwide reputation of continuous charges once they get your number. Did you think I just fell off the turnip truck? LOL Goodbye Forever,"
Answer: I was unsuccessful as well. I ended up disputing the charge with my credit card. It is still being investigated. My wife was successful in getting a refund on a new account that she never used, within 7 days of paying. She is the only one I know of that has done that successfully.
Dropbox has a rating of 1.9 stars from 198 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers dissatisfied with Dropbox most frequently mention credit card, customer service and free trial. Dropbox ranks 109th among Online Storage sites.
