I called to inquire about shipping because I know their shipping runs a little different. Before I could even get my question out the woman interrupts me and doesn't even let me finish my question. I decided to order from someone else.
They take your money and even if plants arrive dead you have to wait a specific amt of time before you can send them back. Then they send you more dead plants. And on and on until 1 yr has passed and the warranty is over. Total scam. Even the customer service I spoke to said "buy locally"
I have been buying plants from Burgess for almost 20 years. The soil is poor out here, clay, but I throw some good soil in there and they usually grow! You can't get more bang for your buck. Sure, you can buy more mature plants at a nursery for 10x more, but for your money, Burgess is right on! Thank you Burgess!
I have ordered from other online nurseries, but this one is by far the worst! I ordered some trees back in March, at the same time I ordered from another nursery, it is now May, and Burgess has yet to mail my plants, the ones I ordered from a different nursery have already arrived, and been planted, and started to grow! The number on the web site does not work, if it does, it is always busy. The only way to contact them is through E-Mail, and then you still have to wait three to four days before a response. I understand that they wait until it is ok to ship them to your zone and all, but I live in FL. I can plant trees year round down here, and if they don't have things, do like other nurseries do, and let people know that items are on back order BEFORE they by them! I will never buy from eburgess ever again, and I will make sure that I tell everyone how horrible they are..
I should have reviewed these, as after two weeks of one order called their customer no service site~ Lord they hire only RUDE people to answer phones. While it is their right to hire whoever they wish it is my right in the future to NEVER DO BUSINESS with them again. AM seriously glad that only ordered one product for less than 20 bucks. And if after 30 days have not received the product will contest the charges. As not received.
I honestly don't see how this company stays in business other than by not having repeat business.
In the fall I waited 5 weeks to get the plants delivered once I received an email posting the shipping. The plants arrived dead. I called and talked to someone saying that they will revive in the spring. They did not. I wrote 3 emails to complain and called one more time. I was told the company was sold and they will try to satisfy the warranty. That was 3 weeks ago, never heard from them.
Please note that I am taking into account the issue of COVID. However, Customer Care takes a week at a time to get back to you. Placed my order and was getting no information, etc so I tried to cancel my order. Weeks of one email back and forth at a time. They said my order shipped but no order in sight yet they charged my credit card weeks ago. What a horrible, horrible experience!
I actually really like eburgess. The plants do take a while to ship and they do look dead on arrival because they are still in their dormant state. I had to laugh and think "wtf" when I saw that the tree and bushes I ordered simply looked like twigs. However, after following their planting instructions (1 part original ground, 1 part top soil and 1 part peat moss) most of them are starting to really flourish after 3-4 weeks. They tell you to allow 6 weeks for the plants to adjust to their new home; and I have rocky clay soil that is not very plant friendly. The plants they send are just babies, which is why they are so cheep, but if you have the time and patience, you will end up with a nice garden for about a quarter of the price.
On Aug. 3,2020 Isent an order to your company for a Tree Peony collection and 2 separate plants. The order was placed on Aug 21 and the check for payment was put in your account on Sept. 3. The package with the plants was found in my front yard on September 22. The plants were dry and two of the trees were in pretty bad shape, but we decided to keep them. Then I discovered that I receiver 3 RED peony trees, all other colors were sold out. Extremely disappointed in the service and the plants. Never again will I order from your company.! After waiting 3 months, emailing countless times, and foolishly attempting to call this sham of a company, my "plants"... actually just dried up shrivelled roots and twigs arrived. I soaked them in water so hopefully they come back to life... NEVER USE THIS COMPANY
Answer: My advice is to NEVER order anything from Burgess as they send dead plants, sticks and twigs and if you have placed an order then go ahead and ask for a refund because you wont be happy. The plants they send are typically dead or will not live long. Don't trust their warranty as they do not honor any warranty. Burgess has sister companies with different names because Burgess is now known as dishonest and a scam. Any good reviews you see are probably from the company itself. Read through the 1000's of reviews and you will be satisfied you did not buy from Burgess or its sister companies.
