This company responds to reviews, but usually not within the first month
Unfortunately, this life is short, even if it is long. We may all need one day a heart that cares for us and a hand that reaches out to help us. Let us all live in love, safety and peace, and let us cooperate in our worries and pains until the end. I am very influenced by the Western cultures and way of life, especially the Anglophone culture. I love volunteering for humanitarian reasons. I love assisting the others, especially those who cannot depend on themselves like the elderly people, people with special needs, people with disabilities, and children. I feel so good about myself, comfortable, and happy when I offer a helping hand to those who deserve it.
Update: the company responded to my review by immediately placing blame on me, and ignoring the several emails I have sent them over the course of a year and a half. They want me to delete the review or change it to 5 so they can get more people to fall for their scam. Please do not donate to this company, donate to your local community that you can validate with your own eyes and in person. They need it more than whatever this website is doing with your hard earned money. This is my advice to you when dealing with this company, please be safe. Look at the image I attached. The name in the message doesn't even match the name on the account. I repeatedly reached out to them multiple times to stop charging me. I never even signed up for the donations, I had to call paypal to get involved and they said this place had been charging me through paypal as a guest account and that is why I could not find it to stop it on my side. They had to go through several additional steps to get ElderHelpers (more like ScamHelpers) to stop charging me. I reported them to PayPal and I am reporting them to the FBI https://www.ic3.gov/
Elderly subscribers are charged $50 + a month to remain on active call list. *
Also, if you are a volunteer paying $10 a month, it's near impossible to cancel your subscription.
No phone customer support available.
I would not recommend this service to your loved ones.

I help the elderly a lot in my city by choosing food that helps them and also taking medicine on time, and I love this job. It is a hobby, and for me, whoever does not love his hobby does not love his work I also find happiness in their faces when I help them, and this makes me happy
I am a kind and cheerful individual with a strong desire to spend time with and support older adults. Although I have not yet had the opportunity to participate in volunteering, I am eager to get involved and contribute in any way I can.
I love every volunteer work.so your organization also doing good in this sector. Its really fantastic.

Helping the elderly, patience and passion to bear everything
I never experienced as a volunteer until right at this moment.
But doing the right things with compassion and help people are what people should do. Nobody can not live alone.
Im excited to enroll elderhelpers.org
My mother lives in Cambridge Ontario, Canada. She needs some help as she getting older and had a stroke. I came across your site and signed and then I noticed that you are US based. Mary R. From Customer Care showed me where to look for Canadian cities, but nothing came up for her city, but I do appreciate the fast response.
Thanks!
My mom stopped driving so she needed some transportation. I was fortunate enough to find Elder Helpers. What a wonderful organization. I found 2 very caring people in her neighborhood who are volunteering to drive her. We feel truly blessed. I would highly recommend this organization

Whoever thought about this program deserves a lot of thanks. I have an 80-year old grandfather and he is living alone. I come to visit him often if I could. Lately my job requires me to do lot of out of town trips. There's cable tv in the house, but having someone to talk with is still different. So I am very thankful for Elder Helpers because now a volunteer regularly comes by to keep company with my grandfather.
I signed up for 3 months and called all the volunteers within a 10 mile radius. Any farther away, and they would have to drive a treacherous mountain road. NO ONE RESPONDED, or if they answered my call, they said they were no longer volunteering. The person at elderhelpers said I had to look within 20 miles, and I "should" pay the volunteers. 75/mile. None of this was mentioned when I signed up. He refuses to give me a refund. I would steer clear of this company. Instead, research other volunteer organizations in your area who are truly volunteer with no strings attached.

I signed up for Elder Helpers a couple years ago. At that time I was sent a packet of some sort and ended up having to pay around $50 for the privilege of volunteering my time. I contacted them but was quickly rebuffed - I never got called to help anyone. The only result was that they took my 50 bucks.
Here is the email exchange between myself and Elder Helpers from that time period. It speaks for itself:
Me:"Hi, I signed up with Elder Helpers a couple weeks ago (donated the fifty dollars, got the booklets, paid for the background check) At this point is it just a waiting game or can I do anything proactive to get matched up with an elder? Thanks"
Their Response:"Yes, you can read your packet and our website. "

Because we have a huge pool of volunteers nationwide for elders and their families to choose from, we recommend you making your profile as appealing as possible and getting on board with our VIP volunteer program. With elderhelpers.org volunteers are never required to donate money. A simple registration is enough to have the opportunity to give back to the community, gain knowledge and wisdom from seniors. Customer care can be reached at help@elderhelpers.org and SiteJabber offers a useful Q&A section.
First - I signed up as a volunteer. There was no phone call or anything - I just showed up as a volunteer. I could be a mass murderer!
Second - We tried getting a ride for my 90 year old mom. Contacted at least 5 people on the list - most had signed up years ago and had heard nothing from company - didn't even know they were on site. Needless to say - no help at all was available.
Third - We cancelled the service after first month, but were still charged. Still waiting on a refund for the second month - and think we should get one for first month too.
I have NEVER spoken to anyone at Elderhelpers. Only ever got email from one person - Mary. Is this a one woman show? I'm wondering if this is a scam.

I am always happy to help and Eldercare not only helps elders in our community but they also help their volunteers feel like they are giving back to our most vulnerable residents! This is an experience everyone should have.
It's truly a shame that our society is uncomfortable with getting older. I hope that when I get older and seemingly irrelevant to the rest of society, someone will care enough to visit me. In order to receive, we have to give so that's what I'm doing. No doubt there are elders who are lonely and need nothing more than some attention and someone to talk to. We all matter regardless of age.
An elderly relative signed up for the service. No one was available in the area so they attempted to cancel their "subscription". Two phone calls later they are still being billed despite being told the subscription is cancelled. Now the phone number is not functional. Forced to contest the charge with the credit card. My relative is out $400+. SCAM!
Mary R never resolved the situation. Avoid them!

I am a college student at the University of Toledo studying chemical engineering. I am looking forward to potentially assisting with any help needed, including visiting any senior member who is lonely.
elderhelpers.org was fair in explaining their terms that you have to stay subscribed to keep receiving help so that the volunteers can report their hours. I had to call a bunch of numbers before I could find a volunteer available that was a good fit but it worked out great and I am grateful for this site and unique service.
I signed up with ElderHelpers to get involved in my community, get to know an elder who may need companionship and support, and contribute my time and energy to making their lives better. ElderHelpers is very organized and professional. They offered a helpful training and took careful consideration when pairing me with an elder to ensure that the relationship would work from both ends. I highly recommend getting involved.
Elder Helpers is a user-friendly, web-based service. We believe that compassion at its finest is free. Volunteers register to offer their services based on their true desire to help elders. Elder Helpers strives to safely and conveniently connect these dedicated, passionate volunteers with elders in their local communities. We are a tax exempt organization and the contributions cover our operating costs. Our volunteers are true volunteers. For a tax deductible monthly donation of $50, you can contact as many volunteers as you would like, to ask them for as much help as you would like. We do screening and background checks and our website makes it convenient for you to locate volunteers where you need them and get to know them and the help they are willing to offer. Enjoy the safety and convenience of elderhelpers.org!
We are not supported by any government money. Solely volunteers, elders and their relatives help us pay for the technology and people making this service possible. Contributions from volunteers, training packets delivery, contributions from elders and relatives are handled by a third party meeting the best industry standards and is subject to change. Background checks are handled by www.IntelliCorp.net, a Verisk Company. We recruit our volunteers in reputable places and carefully screen all users. This service is new and innovative, we strongly encourage any visitor of this page to educate themselves by reading our FAQs at www.elderhelpers.org/faq and contact us via email for more information. Thank you.
Elderhelpers.org started in May 2010 to match volunteers with elders in need of help within their own community.
In the middle of June 2015, we have decided to stop offering a refund policy since it was rarely respected by our users. We switched to a third party meeting the best industry standards to offer tax deductible donation receipts, easy cancellation, and increased security.
We now only let informed people about our service (having read our FAQs carefully, and checked our listings of volunteers themselves) join our community. Each user gets access to our safe and convenient service for a small monthly contribution. We do not offer refunds anymore. There is no more subscription, monetary contribution is now considered a donation. And it is tax deductible!
People joining our community are asked to be patient, nice to our volunteers, and to report wrong and disconnected phone numbers to us, which is the only way that we can keep a database clean and up-to-date. This website is user supported: volunteers give their time and when they can donate money, elders and their relatives participate fifty dollars a month, and report their results to benefit the entire community of users.
Thank you so much for your participation in our wonderful community!
