Glassdoor has a rating of 1.4 stars from 273 reviews, indicating that most customers are generally dissatisfied with their purchases. Reviewers complaining about Glassdoor most frequently mention community guidelines, class action, and disgruntled employee problems. Glassdoor ranks 344th among Job Search sites.
It has been helpful in several ways: primarily the reviews from employees working at various companies, although some have been written obviously by management to counter terribly negative reviews; also, the pay estimates, although they are only estimates and should not be used to base an answer to a query of what salary you are looking to receive; and some of the job offerings.
They force you to give a TON of personal information to even leave a simple review or comment on a company. I don't want to give glassdoor my current salary, adress, job title, real name, phone number, etc. etc. Just to use the site. They lock you into pages where you're forced to fill a million boxes with your personal info just to proceed. Finding your profile and reviews is annoying and confusing. Just a really bad site all around.
I have recently found out that glassdoor use negative company reviews as leverage to squeeze some kind of membership subscription out of companies.
Myself and a host of other employees who walked out of a company (due to be asking to do some things that were basically illegal) had left 100% honest reviews on glassdoor about the company to warn off anybody who might be suckered into employment there. Roll on five weeks, they have all been deleted. We had been warned that this might happen so instead of writing seething reviews, we made sure that the reviews were very well balanced and refrained from mentioning the illegal activities that we were asked to partake in.
Apparently once a company gets a few negative reviews glassdoor contacts them and makes them aware of the reviews. Glassdoor suggests that the company sign up for a paid subscription which will result in each review being scrutinised under much stricter posting rules... rules which apparently only about 8% of reviews manage to get past.
So glassdoor is basically a scam.
This site gives you the chance to tell the world, anonymously, how much you love or hate your job, your manager, your salary and your co-workers; to recommend it or otherwise, and to describe how difficult your interview was. It also features a very large number of job recruitment ads and overall it can be a fascinating, if not necessarily entirely reliable, inside look into the world of work in the USA.
You'll need to use some judgment in deciding which comments are honest and which aren't, from the brown-nosing to the downright bitter, but especially where a large number of employees have reviewed their company there does seem to be a general consensus suggesting most people are reasonably truthful.
You'll be expected to sign up for a free site membership once you've looked through a number of comments and reviews, which is probably worth doing if you're in the job market. There is undoubtedly some very useful inside information to be had here, about general working conditions in various fields and the kinds of things you should know if you want to become a successful interviewee.
Had a company review posted on Glassdoor for 2 months, then boom it was gone. Nothing from Glassdoor informing me that the review was going to be deleted. I found nothing helpful in the FAQ's about why this was and got in touch. Explanation provided was appalling and no context to what I had inquired about. It was obviously a boiler-plate response and I responded as such. Further response was that they use algorithms to determine a fake review, cannot submit more than one review per company, no derogatory language etc. In all cases this was not correct - 1st time review + it was a true account of the time spent at the company and it was not offensive in the slightest. Having looked through the feedback at sitejabber & qoura... there appears to be a lot of people complaining. Only conclusion is that Glassdoor is heavily influenced by the very same companies that people seek out honest reviews. Whether there is sponsorship involved or not, there is something not right here. It needs further investigating and perhaps an Ombudsman type body to review further,
Title explains it all. You can't use the site unless you contribute. You can't even look at job openings...
They also delete reviews that companies complain about.
Glassdoor is unreliable for company reviews. Spread the word. They are only publishing what they want to most likely based on their relationship with the company involved.
I have flagged a review for a company as the review is in multiple violations of Glassdoor's own Community Guidelines and Terms of Use. Multiple times and by multiple people involved with the company we have pointed out that the same person posted multiple reviews, that the same person posted the reviews under the wrong company name and that the same person is in violation of a confidentiality agreement / non disparagement agreement. All of these items violate Glassdoor's rules and they just write back saying a manager has review our complaint and the review is acceptable. A small company is going to have hire a law firm to get an injunction against an entry level a former employee who worked for the company six days and file an action against both Glassdoor and the former entry level employee who worked for the company six days. What a waste of time and money. It really hits home that anyone can say anything about anyone, and Glassdoor is just the vehicle to permit this type of disgruntled speech. Glassdoor does do investigations, contrary to what they say on their website and they say they don't sides in factual disputes -- they do and they just keep sending out the same recycled responses to flagged complaints rather than do what they say they are going to do on their website. Very disappointed - it sounds like a good website in concept - it seems like they just want saucy stories to drive up their traffic volume.
I've been searching jobs in "Perth, WESTERN AUSTRALIA" but the website gives me back a list of job vacancies in "Perth in UNITED KINGDOM".
I know that we still have the Queen is still our Head of State, and I do really appreciate the effort in finding me a job, but really? It is a little bit too far, don't you think?
Glossdoor.com is a total FRAUD site. Do not enter information about yourself or your company. That information is being farmed and you are potentially going to be scammed. Beware!
Tip for consumers:
Stay away from Glassdoor

Glassdoor is a SCAM site
In addition to totally SUCKING, pitching me the same jobs i already applied for, and jobs im not qualified for, Glassdoor also LOVES to DEVALUE ALL APPLICANTS with their salary scale. I know what lead design positions, art director, 3D modeler, concept artists make salary wise in a game company. ALL OF THEIR LISTED SALARIES ARE TENS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS LOW. Even the one company i applied to and got a phone interview with said glassdoor does that, and that they actually pay the RIGHT amount, and to ignore what Glassdoor had put up. Sounds like theyre trying to scam people.
Tip for consumers:
Look elsewhere, this site is a scam.

Terrible site
Allows people to post anonomous reviews
Which brings out the real lack luster, untalented, lazy employees to disparage hard- working, talented and driven coworkers
I have been under a "attack" by one or more low-lives since the hiring of one of our employees
The site allows people to post multiple reviews under different names and other info- I have tested it
Have made positive reviews of my company and have also written reviews responding to some of the false negative reviews
Glassdoor does not screen individuals at all
You could be from another planet and they would post your negative review
Glassdoor is truly a terrible site and I will tell everyone I know how I feel
I hope this is anonymous, I wouldn't want anyone to know who I am!
Sounds like Glassdoor has become just another liberal site, controlling what and what not to be allowed on their site. Glassdoor, you suck! And eventually, it will catch up with you.
I posted a review on my former employer because, although no company is perfect, they don't deserve all the negative reviews BECAUSE all the reviews posted are from independent contractors contracted by my former company and NOT employees. There is a huge difference...
Glassdoor is a terrible website. The website is very slow, incorrect information is posted all of the time in regards to job employment. It is an obsolete website and not worth your time.
Glassdoor is a FAKE corporate review company run by the politically-correct s**t-for-brains crowd. THEY CENSOR ALL OF THE REVIEWS PEOPLE POST and do not post most of the reviews people submit. They are A JOKE of a company - very similar to the way America is becoming a JOKE of a country
They don't allow you to post the truth. They want you to edit what you've written. Then they bombard you with emails that include companies that never hire you. What a waste of time,
The website deletes real reviews because some HR from a drowning company because of a lack of interpersonal skills and insecurity reports real reviews. What a disappointment.
Reviews and salary data entered into Glassdoor is done anonymously with no verification of the person, so it's completely useless. What an utter shambles.
Glassdoor offers nothing but inaccuracy, I have read many reviews about the company I currently work for and it is very clear to me that every employees who fails in his performance at his or her position and is fired few days later I see a very negative comments about the company but none of it is true, Glassdoor has become a site for slandering companies CEOs and CFOs, managers whether is true or not it is a place for failed people to release their anger.
I belive Glassdoor owners themselves know that their site is full of hot air and nothing more,
They use the site to collect personnel info to sell to recruiting agencies, basically they make money from slandering companies and their managements they should be ashamed of themselves for running such a scam.
I tried to write a negative review about *real* experience at a *real company* and the review was negative without exaggeration. I think that GrassSore thought that I was making up what I wrote because they sent ma a form note saying that I would have to improve my review or they would not post it. That is a dishonest way of telling me to make a dishonest review about my honest explanation of what happened badly at a company where I had worked.
I use glassDoor's salary estimation some times. Females who are in my 'industry' say that their estimates are 30 to 50 thousand dollars less than mine, and MANY OF THE WOMEN are MORE QUALIFIED than I am.
Thanks, GD for perpetrating gender bias in wages for females. GlassDoor should rename how they treat women to GlassCeiling.
Tks for listening
I am trying to locate jobs in a particular city, I enter the job type and the city, but once I click the search, it throws the city away and displays jobs in the category for ALL OF THE UNITED STATES, ie: unable to restrict to a city or state. I am not abot to search through 2,000 plus job/
They like to try and Bully Adjusters and Claim they repair vehicle per Factory Specs, Which I have obtained statements from a Former Employee that said They do not, I also have a Statement from a vehicle owner that said they tried to Make the Insurance Company pay for and entire Body side instead of repairing a Three inch dent, Which totaled theyre vehicle and cost them Thousands, They are disliked by all body shops and adjusters in all of Western NC.
Everytime I've been actively searching for jobs and a recruiter contacts me I always check out the reviews and salary before I agree to the interview.
Glassdoor is about to be sued! I had a horrible interview by a company and posted the negative experience on GLASSDOOR. The Directors of the student loan division for GC SERVICES here in Knoxville, TN DEMANDED THAT I BRING MY CURRENT EMPLOYERS PROPRIETARY INFORMATION WITH ME ON TEAM STATS (call center) to my interview. This is illegal, I posted my concern on GLASSDOOR AND GC SERVICES FLAGGED MY NTERVIEW FOR REMOVAL. Since GC SERVICES IS PAYING ALOT OF MONEY TO GLASSDOOR TO CONTINUOUSLY POST NUMEROUS POSITIONS --Glassdoor removed my honest review in order to please the company that was paying them! GLASSDOOR IS NOTHING BUT A LOW LEVEL FALSE ADVERTISING PIECE OF CRAPP. I RECORDED MY INTERVIEW AND CAN PROVE EVERYTHING THAT WAS SAID
Tip for consumers:
GLASSDOOR is paid big bucks by employers!!! You, as an employee who is job searching, is being defrauded by them as they REMOVE HONEST NEGATIVE reviews to keep those big bucks coming in from employers!!
I used to think Glassdoor was a legitimate site, until I had my and some of the other co-workers' negative reviews removed. Without any explanation. When asked for one, we were given "pre-packaged" responses about having violated company trade secrets or given out confidential information. None of it was true. Our reviews were specific and had legitimate complaints, such as no raise for years, few benefits for hard work that required special qualifications, poor treatment of employees. These were NOT trade secrets or confidential info. These reviews were approved previously, but were removed most likely when our company got concerned about their low ratings. At the same time, in matter of only 2 weeks, our company somehow received at least two dozen of raving, positive reviews. Which instantly inflated their rating, although no measures were taken to remedy the complaints many employees in the company have.
Unfortunately, it appears that there is some kind of deal going on between Glassdoor and companies/corporations willing to pay them to create a false image or to inflate their ratings, which may be low for a reason. It renders this website useless and misleading. Moreover, I was shocked when I read the reviews posted here and found out that Glassdoor may even use negative reviews as a leverage to extort money from companies/employers. What a disgrace! And disservice to both prospective employees and companies alike! I WAS VERY SADDENED AND DISAPPOINTED! PLEASE DO NOT TRUST GLASSDOOR WEBSITE!
