I purchased a few different bare root roses a few weeks ago. One was per my mother's request, a "Don Juan" red climber. It arrived as what I considered a "twig" lol. I am super new to roses & quite nervous. Anyway, I followed the planting instructions precisely. It's only been 2 weeks & it has quadrupled size already! I'm totally astounded!
Bought two roses (first time)- both were ridiculously small for the price. One did ok- the other never grew more than 12 inches tall and was so sickly I removed it. I have a strict routine of watering, pest control and fertilization- which Heirloom roses claims is too much watering and fertilization. I wonder why my other 13 co-located rose bushes- some of which I purchased from Walmart for $13- have grown 4-5 ft in the same time period. Seriously- this is a joke. I have years of experience successfully growing roses. Only buy from them if you have no other option
I'm very pleased. My roses are in good condition, arrived exactly when they said they would. All have new growth just a few days after they arrived. I'm % delighted
Heirloom has quality roses. The way they are shipped is second to none. The company's customer service is excellent.
I can't say enough good things. I wouldn't go anywhere else fir my roses.
Tip for consumers:
You just can't go wrong with this company. Roses are expensive so the value is so important.

Perfectly packaged and very well protected. Starts were well moistened. I was surprised about the lack of leaves until I watched you very informative video. That is very helpful.
Recommendations from Floret and others in our area.
I was so happy to find this site. The variety of roses offered and descriptions of the rose types was extremely helpful. My roses arrived in excellent shape and when expected.
I was interested in roses that are not often available at my local nurseries. During my visit to the UK, I discovered roses I wanted to grow at home and found those roses for sale at Heirloom Roses.
The roses are great. They come back every year. They're strong, hardy disease free. Everybody loves the way they smell in my yard.
All of the videos were extremely helpful in receiving the roses, unpacking them, planting them, watering them and feeding them. Also, we appreciated the shipping updates, as we are on the East Coast.
We searched for a specific rose (Margaret Merril), and Heirloom Roses had them!
I've ordered and planted dozens of roses from Heirloom roses and I am always blown away with the quality of the rose bushes. I just need more space so I can purchase and plant more!
Bought roses and they were never shipped out. Says my order was canceled and it never shipped but no one will respond to my emails. All that money down the drain

I ordered for roses, and they were package beautifully by planted them the same day according to the directions. I can't wait for them to t grow and bloom!
Quality roses
Shopping was fun. More than enough information for each rose. Only problem was the abundance to choose from just in what was available.
Wanted a better rose/root stock then the big box stores and a grander selection.
Great quality, beautiful and varied selection. Website is super helpful. Will definitely order form them again
I have been shopping for roses at Heirloom Roses for 2 years now. I am a relatively new rosarian BUT I research everything I buy or use painstakingly. The reasons I absolutely love Heirloom are:
Own root roses: yes, they take a bit longer to grow to their full potential BUT they are easy to grow - no parent graft messing up - sending shoots etc.; you don't have to worry about pruning them too much; relatively disease free
Quality of roses: I have crossed the 25 different roses mark from HR. All roses have arrived EXACTLY as expected. As mentioned above, they take a bit longer to grow but once established they are SOLID. And the blooms are GORGEOUS!
The fertilizers etc.: The fish emulsion is solid gold. The roses go crazy after application. Tons of buds within a few days. The bone meal is also of an obviously higher quality than the 'premium ' brand from the gardening centers.
Customer Service: I have never had an issue with customer service AND the folks who pick up the phone KNOW ABOUT ROSES! As I was going through my rosarian initiation, I had many questions. And the answers were always available.
YouTube Channel: I LOVE HR YouTube channel. Simple, drama free solid advice
Small Business: While I do not disavow large business by any means, I support small business as much as I can and it is important to me.

Wow! Thanks for such a thorough review. Sounds like you totally understand that the best roses start with the best roots. If you want a job in customer care, let us know! You have learned a lot as a rose gardener! ;) - Robin
EDITED: I was gifted a rose and it died. I had a couple of struggles with Heirloom Roses. First of all, they would not talk to me even though I had the order number and original packaging. So, I had to bug the gifter to try and contact them, which required multiple communication attempts. Thankfully this was a family member and I was able to reach them, but I would not recommend gifting from this company as it is not an easy process if the receiver has issues.
I planted the rose on March 15th after carefully monitoring the temperature. Since then, it did not freeze as proven by weather records. Initially, Heirloom Rose refused to replace or refund the dead plant because according to them, it "could" have frozen in my area until April 11th. As I and the gifter continued to reach out, we eventually found out that purchasing from a 3rd party vendor (Amazon) voids the companies 1 year warranty. Heirloom did eventually make this right, which I very much appreciate. However, I would still suggest caution when purchasing, especially if it is through a 3rd party site.

I have grown roses for 20+ years, and have a garden of 300+ roses. I live in Charlotte, NC, on the cusp of zones 7-8. Over those years, I've learned:
• Bare root roses ordered in the fall and planted in Feb/Mar get strong and thrive.
• Container roses planted after Memorial Day soon struggle and whither. Don't bother!
Then I came across Heirloom early this summer. A few roses were on sale, they offered free shipping with just a few roses and -- most of all, they offered a year-long guarantee. I watched the videos and was shocked by the way they strip the leaves off plants and promise they'll grow. I didn't believe it... but thought I had nothing to lose given their guarantee.
So I tried five roses -- in mid-summer!
They are not only living and growing, they are FLOURISHING! I purchased in June, received in mid-July, and planted after they'd begin to sprout in late July. (I actually waited to plant them because I was certain I'd be sending them back, dead).
Today I ordered two more roses, which I will plant for a dear couple, in memory of the child and grandchild they lost earlier in 2023. A few months ago I NEVER would have risked planting two roses this time of year -- what if they die for these wonderful people? But I am now willing to take the chance by purchasing roses from Heirloom. (Of course they still may die, but I now believe Heirloom gives me the best chance of success!)
What Heirloom does is clearly a labor of love. I love growing roses, but have felt over the years that most growers have abandoned their product in order to sell a plant that soon dies. I know David Austin doesn't do that (but they sell out of everything by Memorial Day); now I have a supplier who is different from whom I can buy all year!
Thank you, Heirloom!

For a guaranteed healthy, vibrant rose
My roses have always come in healthy and ready to grow. Some have done better then others after planting, but that's not Heirlooms fault.

I've ordered from heirloom a number of times and the roses I receive are always in great shape and packaged wonderfully.
Wide variety, good prices, more availability than competitors
I am so glad to have found most of not all the roses my father grew in his grace in the late 60's and early 70's
I was alerted to the availability of Fragrant Cloud
Thank you for letting me know Blue Moon is available!
I love Heirloom Roses!

Very easy process! Hassle free guarantee on 2 of my roses that didn't make it despite my due diligence. Looking forward to my new replacements.

We are a family business, owned by Ben and Kara Hanna, that values premiere, quality roses and the preservation of unique and rare roses. Located in the fertile Willamette Valley in Oregon, we are continuing the legacy of John and Louise Clements who founded the nursery back in 1972 on their own small farm. Our offices are still located in the farmhouse where they lived in St. Paul, Oregon. We are passionate about hand propagating each rose to ensure that we provide our customers with the best own-root roses available. We are committed to providing own-root roses that provide profuse blooms, are winter hardy, are disease resistant, and are true to variety. While own-root roses cannot be quickly produced, like grafted roses, we think the difference and quality is worth it.
