“Desert Mesa Pool Service review”

John and Robin S.
6/3/23

This was a significant investment for us, but one that was competitively offered. Mike and his crew were prompt, efficient, thorough, and completed the work in two days. The crew left our pool and surrounding landscape in good condition. I would recommend Desert Mesa Pools services to anyone needing pool deck repair.

“Do not use Angi leads. It's a scam.”

James W.
3/1/24

Angi's leads has been hands down THE WORST lead service that I have ever used. Do not, I repeat, do not use their services. It's a complete rip off. They will send you a "lead" and charge you no matter what comes from it.Even if the lead is bogus. They sent me a lead where the number was disconnected, asked them for a a refund on the bad lead and no, the refund was denied. Sent me another with the wrong number, doesn't matter, still charged me $189 for the lead with no refund. I also found out that they will send you and 2-3 other people the same lead and charge everyone for the lead no matter what. It's a scam. I called and asked to speak to a supervisor, and even the supervisors were like Yep we send you the number and you can charge to matter what. Doesn't even matter if they don't call you back. Angi makes money by ripping off hard working people. So surprised that they are still in business. I would give zero stars if they allowed me to..

Was quoted amount for lawn service to be done twice a month for one monthly fee. Come to find out, amount would be charged twice a month.
Was on phone for hours to different departments to cancel booking.
Can't reach live person. On hold throughout the day. Emailed, calls. No response. Finally called my bank to flag credit card charge. Worse comes to worse, I'll cancel credit card and get a hole new one.
How can this company do business like this and Not Be Closed Down?

I had a great experience with Home Advisor. After my original search I was overwhelmed by so many choices that I didn't contact anyone. The advisor at Home Advisor contacted me by phone and listened to my problem and emailed me a detail listing of highly rated contractors who could complete the jobs. Great follow up!

Our pond needed maintenance, Sky Fish came by, Chris, spent some time with us, checking our pump, filter, and general condition of our pond and how much they charge. We were very happy with him and his two workers, they were friendly and professional. We'll certainly be using them to keep up maintenance on our pond.

I have hired two "pros" from this company. It was clear that neither had experience. They both did terrible work and wanted to raise the price once working with the home! I had to ask both to leave, without finishing the work. The second time it was clear I was being robbed. When I attempted to submit a review to HomeAdvisor I was asked for receipts etc proving that these people came to my home. Why would I submit false negative reviews for specific companies. These aren't 100 dollar projects, its 300 dollars plus! I was wondering why these two businesses did not have poor reviews, then I would have obviously choose other people. But the reviews can be debated and so I'm sure most people don't bother after the nightmare, hence why these companies don't have bad reviews! Stay Away! If you can't find someone quickly for your project. It is best to wait and continue asking friends or neighbors.

I needed to have someone come and let me know if my refrigerator in the garage was saving. Home Advisor estimated the cost at $392 without getting any details or even talking to me. Payment was requested BEFORE I even saw a technician. I was about to get out of the site when I saw "Get your own quote". I selected that and Mr Appliance contacted me. The issue was resolved to my satisfaction but I will not use Home Advisors again.

The HA gave a quote extremely low; assumed to get their foot in the door. I explained the issue to Grout Rhino; leaving the job cost up to them.
Guisseppe took the job on an estimate first basis.
For the 2,200 square feet he charged a far price of 3 times the amount that the Home Advisor said could not exceed. The quality of their work met all expectations.

Have used them twice and would not use them again. In the middle of a pandemic they both showed up without masks and didn't have them. The painter was the worst. Had to sand the walls and start over again. I waist of good money. The carpet cleaners did a decent job but didn't have the plastic pieces to place under the legs of furniture to prevent rust marks from the damp carpet.

Very good. I used to be an electrical contractor and I worked with Home Advisor. I was familiar with how they make sure that all contractors have a license in good standing, workers comp, and liability insurance. There was always follow up to make sure all information is currant. I have never had a bad experience with Home Advisor. So I always use them except for electrical because I still do that myself.

Good for the customer looking for pros. Nothing to worry about. The contractor is paying for it whether or not you go with them or not. A grand money maker for home advisor, but not the contractor. Leads are inaccurate 7 times outta 10 or the customer just wants to ask you information or advice, but has no interest in processing further. It wouldn't be such a big deal if they didn't charge so much for all leads. Some of them are just straight ridiculous for the smaller jobs. Home advisor makes a point to tell you that you can get credits, but they only allow a couple monthly. They make so much money especially when they are sending it as a "market match" must be nice... They really should reconsider prices are most of their leads! Spoke to other contractors and they feel the same as I do. Looking for new and less expensive alternatives with better reps and less costly mistakes.
Sorry home advisor we really wanted to make this work better, but a good concept, but NOT for a Contractor.

Don't prepay for services. Do your own homework and hire your own professional, not home advisor Took the money and ran. Service not accomplished. Contractor did not show on original appointment day or time. Bottom of the barrel rude people. Wanted extra fees. No customer service, on hold forever. Supervisors never available.

We finally received our full refund of $287.99, from Home Advisor, Thursday, December 27,2018.
We don't advise anyone to use Home Advisor.
Don't pay anyone for "leads".
Took a lot of jumping through hoops to get our refund. They would've given us more grief if we hadn't requested it within 3 business days.
It will be a lot harder for those of you fighting for refunds due to their bad business practices, bogus leads, and bogus charges, but stick with it and use the contact info from our original review and updates.

This is the latest update to our issue with Home Advisor that has been going on since Monday, Decent 10,2018:
Wednesday, December 19,2018, I called IAC Corporate Headquarters, *******300, which is the parent company of Home Advisor, as well as Match.com, and many other companies. I, of course, asked for the CEO, Joey Levin. When his assistant asked about the issue, she connected me to the operator, (person answering and routing incoming calls) to connect me with Home Advisor. BUT, I explained to him that I already spoke with Home Advisor and they would not help me. He took down all info and said he would send it up to someone who could help.
The next day, Thursday, December 20,2018, I received a call from IAC Headquarters. The woman was very nice. She said that the account was canceled and refund was requested, but, could take 30-45 days. When I questioned that, she said there are 3 steps for refunds. It gets submitted and sent to manager for review. After it's reviewed a decision is made, then refund is sent. I asked her why I need a review and that the other woman days she had the authority and would take 36 hours. She said she didn't know why I was told that. BUT, looking at the case, we were eligible for full refund BECAUSE we requested within 3 business days. I asked her about the horror stories of others. She said they weren't within 3 business days and had to go through the "review". Anyway, The next day, Friday, December 22,2018 we received an email from Molly Russell. She said the expedited our refund, and if we don't have it by January 3,2019, we are to email Corinne Kimpton. I hope this information can help those of you who did not cancel in "3 business days", and are still stuck in the "review" process due to other issues with the bad way Home Advisor handles and charges for so called leads. Stick with it. Contact IAC. We will update accordingly.

Still no refund

This is an update to our previous review that was written on December 11,2018. It was posted on December 16,2018:
I had to file a claim with my bank against the Home Advisor transaction. They said it can take up to 45 days. I also started to file a complaint online with the BBB. This is the message that comes up: (in case anyone wishes to use the contact info)

"HomeAdvisor has requested that before filing a BBB inquiry, consumers contact them directly at:
*******@homeadvisor.com or *******@homeadvisor.com where you can reach their designated customer contacts Molly Russell and Corinne Kimpton. The business has stated that they are dedicated to resolving consumer complaints.
Please understand that you can file a complaint with the BBB now or at any time during this process. It is our hope that HomeAdvisor will resolve this situation for you in an expedient manner."

So, I emailed them. I told the woman I would wait until this Thursday before finishing the complaint. I will update you all again Friday.

My name is Brenda Brunner. Home Advisor kept calling my husband continuously! This past Monday they called him while he was very busy rushing to finish a job. He told them he had to talk to me first and would not have any funds available until Friday. Dan then told him to just give the CC info and then it will be set up and ready on Friday. I knew nothing of this. They called that evening and I answered. When he asked for my husband, I asked for his name. He said Dan, from Home Advisor. I said we can't afford your service, please remove us from your list. My husband didn't mention his prior conversation with Dan that day. Maybe he assumed, now, that Dan would have his answer and know that we do not want their service. The next day, Tuesday, I got online to balance bank account, as usual, and found a withdrawal for $287.99 from Home Advisor! I immediately called the bank and was told that it was still pending and after it finished posting we could file fraud charges. I called my husband who then told me about his conversation with Dan and that it was to be on this coming Friday. I then called Home Advisor and was connected with Eric, a manager. He apologized and tried to talk me into the service adding that the person that handles refunds only communicates through email, so it can take a few days. He told me he would work on it and call me by 9:20 am Wednesday. Since we were now low in money in the account, I transferred money to cover our insurance payments that were due to come out. I did not receive the call as promised from Eric. At Around 11:00 am I called and left a message for him. Then I checked our bank account again and saw 4 OD charges, Totaling $156! I called and left another message for Eric and called the bank, who told me to call the fraud department. I did from my cell. As I was speaking to the bank rep on speakerphone, Eric called on my other number, so I put him on speakerphone also. I told Eric about being on recorded line with bank. He got his supervisor. She told me I was being recorded and I told her she was also by the bank. She promised a refund. The bank said if she would say that they made a mistake, the bank would give back the OD charges. She said it was NOT a mistake, that my husband agreed. I asked to hear the recording. She said she didn't have it but said "it sounded like him and he said the money's there so go ahead". My husband had a witness (worker with him) to the conversation. PLUS, Dan and Eric both admitted fault! The bank said they could dispute the charge as being "processed earlier than agreed", but it would take awhile. They offered to give back the fees as a courtesy but that would use up any courtesy we may need in the future. I agreed, so they gave back the $156 immediately. He also said if we don't get our refund as promised, we can still file against Home Advisor. We STILL have not received the refund. Sorry for the long story, but, I hope it helps prevent others from going through this. STAY AWAY FROM HOME ADVISOR! You should never have to pay to get a job, or to get a credit check on yourself!

Even if you set your budget at a certain target and they hit it, you can expect to get more, I was hit with 100+ over the amount of the lead. They straight up told me the opportunity leads that I can accept will be bigger fee leads because I'm pausing and limiting my other budget. Once I put my budget lower the leads for really small projects that used to be like 15 bucks ended up being around 40-60. They are scamming you if they don't get what they thought they could before.

This was, at one time, a great lead company. It was called Service Magic. They changed the name to HomeAdvisor and down it went. They used to have 3 contractors respond it a lead. Now 10 or more contractors get the same lead. Drives the price down. If I get 10 leads, maybe I will speak to one. I've been a HomeAdvisor customer since 2012. It is at its absolute worst. If a viable alternative comes along, I'll drop HomeAdvisor like a baby giraffe. HomeAdvisor absolutely SUCKS!?

I own a small company and was contacted by HomeAdvisor with potential requests to generate more leads, This company charged me for more than 1000 for leads that I never contacted or bogus leads.

Please do not waste your money on HomeAdvisor. If you are a hard worker like me with 5 star reviews everywhere, It will be the biggest mistake in your life to do any business with this company.

Not sure how all of this works regarding HomeAdvisor but I had submitted a potential job looking for an estimate. Kevin from Polyverse Solutions contacted me regarding my request. He came to look at the project and with the professionalism expected he did all kinds of measurements and came up with an estimate the next day. Contact with Kevin was continual as we firmed up what was needed. Any feedback we gave was accepted with enthusiasm and passed on to his team immediately. I have already scheduled another job with Polyverse as I was so pleased with the first job.

Just like all the one star reviews say, They send out to at least three contractors the same customer info and in my case 75% of the customers never answered, 20% already found a contractor and the last five told me they never requested a contractor or yes they needed one---a month ago. I never NEVER, received a viable job from any contact sent to me by H. A. I set my alarm on my calendar every week to remind me to put my leads on hold during the last six months because I've heard the misery H. A. put other contractors when trying to cancel membership early. So I lasted the last six months with minimal inconvenience but still feel ripped off. I was polite when I finally cancelled two weeks prior to the end of my year but I will NEVER ever use H. A or Angies List (they are owned by H. A.)

So professional and unbelievably quick, other tree services said 3 to 4 weeks or 12 weeks or more, no way the dead tree was dangerous and limbs were falling, my son missed a dead limb 15'long by 10"in diameter. I got the estimate on 11/6/20 and they were here on 11/11/20, they worked in the rain and it was amazing it took 2 hours for a large dead maple tree to be cut to the ground and cleaned up.The crew was professional and kind.

Plumbers dug up part of my sprinkler system while installing a new gas line. They tried but were unable to repair the problem. After three to four days of attempting to make the repair they turned it over to me to find someone. I called and Michael was out the same day and corrected the problem, was very efficient and I am completely satisfied with the results.

They make up leads and send them to you to make money. 9 out of 10 times you get a lead, you call the lead, no answer, then after a while you send an email to the "gmail" or "yahoo" account, and never contact a human. One of the leads was named Joe Schmo as a joke I assume, and I caught it. I paid over $240 just last week in leads and made just $500 in the ones that panned out. So 500 minus 240, equals $260 for a weeks worth of hard work. BTW, Yodle is just as bad. Get some business cards and nice clothes, beat feet and meet the surrounding area you're working.

The promises Home advisor makes seem too good to be true. They are! We paid over $900 over the course of two months. We received close to 20 leads, even with our leads turned off. Out of all these leads only 2 led to an actual estimate. The rest of the leads either never answered/replied or were totally irrelevant to the kind of work our company does. I. e. Someone wanting us to TEACH them how to build their own shower. At first we flagged these and got the lead fees credited back to our. However, after the 3rd return of fees Home Advisor got greedy and refused to the reimburse for the rest of the obviously counterfeit leads. Despite us following their guidelines calling, emailing, and texting the customer as instructed. This website is a scam and huge waste of money.

I was contacted by someone who has a screen porch business. I hired him. I received multiple other calls, each time stating I already has someone. Then I received a message that someone was coming to my house the next day. I told them I did not need their services as I already hired someone. Then I received a charge on my card of nearly $400 for a service that never happened, no one showed up.
Really awful experience with HomeAdvisor.

The person I hired, however, was GREAT.

Excellent
Berto and his crew were punctual and professional
The brick repair was amazing. And the narrow wall was brought back to true and level. They worked quickly. And cleaned up completely!
Beat experience I have ever had having repairs done using an online site.
